Yes, we know that many other Districts besides 003 put the arm on people for a big showing at the Christmas parties.
Yes, we know it's been going on for years.
But a couple of points:
Yes, we know it's been going on for years.
But a couple of points:
- For too long, the "big turnout" at the party was part of some weird popularity contest among the exempt ranks. "My party was bigger than your party" is ridiculous measuring stick by which to measure ability as a commander. Especially if you can force large numbers of underlings to buy tickets.
- If it is a decent party at a decent joint with halfway decent door prizes, there usually isn't an attendance issue. People like to go places they are appreciated or know they will have a good time at. And if it was honoring one or more coppers who were genuinely nice people instead of crusty old jagoffs no one liked, it was an even better time.
In this day and age of politicians being recorded for "pay-to-play," Department morale being so low as to be unmeasurable, J-Fed and his crew looking for the very tiniest infractions to hammer and make examples of Officers with, do we really need even the slightest hint of impropriety to be rearing it's head around anything to do with Christmas parties?
Maybe, in an effort to raise morale and recognize that officers are what makes the Department work, the Commanders ought to pay for the party themselves and give the tickets out to the Officers.

Ho Ho Ho, LMAO!
A Gold Star paying for anything!
In 017 we paid $60.00 a person for a night at La Villa.
The court jester (BORAT) took pictures of everyone showing up there to document the occasion and those in attendance! He then paid homage to us by telling us how great we all are and then we talked about eating "dogs" (not Burger King) in the CAPS office with a certain SGT.
So he does play or have favorites.....
Its funny to look around and see all the rest of us SCREWED into going to this event and to pay so much $ for it (when money is tight and overtime isn't there much anymore)
For $60.00 I could take my whole family for a night out to dinner and ENJOY myself!
This job used to be fun and everyone had their moments of good times and bullshitting! Now the morale is so shot in 017 and Citywide that it is a CHORE to show up to these "Commander needs you there" things so says the Tact LT. and believe me it is not a pleasure anymore.
No disrespect retirees!
BORAT........
Quit making us miserable over here all year long and we will come without being STRONGARMED by the fact that we will be dumped from our "spot" or "car" or whatever.
The WATCH parties are more popular because they sell themselves! THEY ARE FUN! With no bullshit talking clowns that act like they care!
REMEMBER WE ARE POLICE AND GET LIED TO ALOT AS YOU TRY TO BULLSHIT US!
Quit changing shit here and having a closed door "don't want to know the men or women because I don't want to give anyone any favors to show favroitism" attitude! We have families DINGDONG!!!
You're in a SOFT place and it should be relaxed and fun on the northside not ACADEMY stressful and a place of spite and vindictiveness!
Jeez is that why you made boss BORAT, to get even with every guy that teased you on the playground when you were a kid?
Get some LEADERSHIP skills! Go to your buddy TOBIAS' class he'll LEARN ya!
017 KMA
You are correct, sir.
Just ask Steve (GoldenBoy) Ware.
When a good, well liked PO/BOSS retires the watch usually has a party or get together for him/her at some bar or hall. I feel those are a much better time and more personal in honoring the Officer. Those are the ones I go to out of respect for the Officer.
That would be the thing to do, they make over 150K per year free car and other freebies they should pay for it but the cheap asses they are they want us to even get "prizes"! Have not went to a party in a long while fuck the bosses I celebrate with my brothers in Blue at other venues KMA club member! The old scholl bosses were a different breed backed you up new school like crump are you out of your mind?
Another thing if you work the 3rd watch they want 8 hours which is about $300.00 is cu plus the ticket for a bullshit party sorry not me!
The annual Christmas/Retirement Party has always been a tradition in the Police Dept. Tact/Gangs has always been expected to attend. Most of them do. It is a great chance to see everyone out of uniform and usually includes going out after the party to continue the fellowship and partying. I don't understand the police officers of today. They question everything. Why me? is the only response they have to anything said to them. If you are so unhappy go back to the watch. Make a decision for yourself to do this, not because you have to go to the Christmas party. I was at the 003rd District party. The turnout was good, but not great. I can remember parties from 004 that had over 300 attend. I always went to honor the retirees and enjoy myself with my fellow officers. We have lost that on this job. Don't blame Jody. It started awhile ago and is slowly demoralizing this job. Things always changed, but the days of the 80's and 90's were alot of fun.
There are still some police who like to have fun and get together, but it is getting harder. I always said when police get that gold star alot of them forget they were once blue if they were ever blue.
Be safe.
I attend most retirement/Christmas parties out of respect of those retiring. It is not a pick-and-choose "I never liked him/her" contest. This type of blog just exposes how ignorant and spiteful some of the CPD members are. Its not a popularity contest. Go there, have some drinks, a meal and show some class!
"...for $60.00 I could take myself and my whole family out for dinner and ENJOY myself..."
Make sure you go to a McDonald's with a playland.
This is a simple procedure, I fly with my gun always, jsut put it in a locked gun box, unloaded with the rounds separated. When ytou get to the counter, identify yourself and most of the time they just ask if it unloaded and locked up, just one time have I ever been asked for the keys to the box by a curious TSA Supervisor who wanted to check it out, After placing a Red tag INSIDE of the locked box and you get a copy of the Federal Form that you signing stating that you comply, you take it to get scanned, it is then sent thru, It is a painless process. It is worth the few extra minutes if u want to travel and have a gun with you.
Let me see, if you were a boss you would offer to pay for the annual retirement party? Pleeeeease! Sorry but you would most likely become just another arrogant, "I know it all" jagoff! I love it when some officer gets on this blog expounding about what a great boss he or she is! Hes da cops! Standup copper! Old school! Blow me! Just shut up, buy the ticket, and pray somebody comes to your retirement party!
The 10th District Party at the Wolf Point Holiday Inn was a good time with good food, good drink.
The Poetry Reading by our own Jimmy Liston was worth the price of admission.
All things considered, 010 is a good place to work.
Went to the 019 party last night. VERY sad without Rick Francis and Bob Finn. God rest your souls, my friends and mentors. You will always be missed........
08:44 has it right. 023 recently had a good party for a well liked Captain who retired. Lots of good people there, active & retired.
That rare Camaraderie was had once again.
Holy Revelation Batman!!!
I agree wholeheartedly SCC.
In the finest tradition of the real business world. Employees are never asked to pay for the annual corporate Christmas Party. The profits earned by all employed helped pay for it.
As our government is an incorporated intentity city workers and police generate revenue, lawsuits and bad publicity for corrupt politicians to make up excuses for reform after reform. Taxpayers are not going to pay for our retirement parties.
Since the exempts direct and expect 100% participation at their own personal publicity parties-- taking credit for everything and never allowing the retires to speak. It only makes more sense that the boss pick up the tab.
Do we need these expensive parties with ticket prices ranging from 45 to 75 dollars?
Do you find yourself having to buy tickets for more then just one party?
Do you know that you can't drink and drive yourself home from these parties. I ask why have the extra expense of an open bar? Since J-Fed can't wait to get the paperwork on his desk to sign.
It is nice to see old friends and perhaps bring a spouse or special friend to dance.
Since J-Fed crashed our party and fucked up everything that was right just cause only a few did something wrong.
Perhaps J-Fed and his research group can come up with an alternate solution to having expensive Christmas Parties and early retirements.
My solution is simple. If the boss wants a party then they can pay for it!
We should not even have a party, if you like someone then throw them a party.
I get strong-armed by the unit secretary to throw in $20 towards Xmas gifts for the watch commanders, etc. Can't even remember the last time one of them started a conversation that wasn't aimed at throwing some shit case my way.
A boss pay for anything - Sell that shit to the tourists.
What is being done about the Commander who tipped off Mell that his son-in-law was about to be arrested by the Feds? Isn't that a crime? Did anyone register a complaint?
I smell a promotion in the works.
What a reject.
Who is her clout? Fire her and her clout. It's time to clean house.
I'm not trying to stand up for the bosses on this job. Some are great Kup in 008, Patterson when he was in 007, word is Keane in 012 is good. The thing is how can you expect the Commanders who make about 140,000 to pay for Xmas parties. When you consider unpaid Furlogh Days, no O/T, Day off Holidays, etc.... Captains make more a year. An average district with 250 coppers would cost a commander $10,000 get real.
I tell people that we pay 50 bucks for our OWN CHRISTMAS PARTY AND HAVE TO BURN A DAY OFF TO GO TO IT and they look at me like im insane. That being said, if its honoring retired coppers whom i respected i always go
Don't forget the ass kissers who strongarm members in shelling out $50.00 to $100.00 to buy these crap bosses gifts.
It's now time for the big bosses to give Christmas parties for their employees. They can pay for it, the way it should be. They make the BIG Money, so why not? You support US for a change.....
Having a lot more that twenty years on the job, I remember when everyone wanted to go, and went to the retirement party. You went because you liked the retiree and hoped his/her family liked the send-off, or you went to make sure the J*&^^f retired. Either way we (the working officers of the district) went and enjoyed the company of the others working with us. Now you younger officers think everything is for someone else. Quit bitching and start taking what you think is for this boss or that boss and go to the party and make it your party for your retiree's. Every officer should be sent off to retirement with a nice party and if the persons a stroke, make it a good riddance party. As for the cost, 50 - 75 bucks is well worth it to me to enjoy a night of laughs, food and fun with the guys and gals I work with each night on the street. Well, just one not so old, old timers opinion..
Commander Kup (008) threw his own party for his district personnel. He is a great guy!

I was aked but I live for a reason and cause I told her no go ahead deny me shit I could careless! Tired of being strong armed from bullshit bosses they can kiss my ass!
"In 017 we paid $60.00 a person for a night at La Villa...."
Sounds like you need to bid out, pal. If u don't like where u are , go to another district. You won't be missed. Believe me. Or u can see if u can make it to the civilian world.
Hey, if you don't like it, don't go. Thats fine by me. I didn't go to ours. 65 bucks and the two best retirees were not attending anyway. We're throwing our own little set for our buddies anyway. When I retire the bosses can save all their BS speeches. I converse freely with any boss I respect and really don't need a forced 'party' to do so or hear their nonsense. I will throw and pay for my own retirement party. I'll invite who I want and the rest of them can just go on with their lives, no harm no foul. Cmdr. Lillie? That just illustrates how f*&cking ridiculous this department has become. Bartenders, BJ queens, BJ kings, ghetto rats, thieves, gang bangers, sex offenders, crack heads and illiterates.......all bosses now. My god, retirement cannot come soon enough.
Don't forget the ass kissers who strongarm members in shelling out $50.00 to $100.00 to buy these crap bosses gifts.

Taking credit for what? A party for that unit doesn't get ANY attention from anyone else, much less the bosses from HQ , so what are you talking about?
The people being celebrated are the retirees.
If you don't want to go, dont.
I do agree the "cash bar" and a much cheapter ticket to the party is OK by me, $50.00 is too much and any more than that is totally out of the question.
Another thing if you work the 3rd watch they want 8 hours which is about $300.00 is cu plus the ticket for a bullshit party sorry not me!

Well, a better idea is to let the guys switch their RDO voluntarily for that week, then you don't lose the time, just have to make sure you have enough people to man the cars...
Have we forgotten what Christmas is all about? If you want to thank your staff and give a gift, then give one; but, no one, should be strong armed into going, giving, nor playing the games of these commanders! Good for guys like Kup, more commanders should pay for the party if they want. As for their shortage on furlough days and all, booo hoo; most of them should be happy to have a job let alone promotion. Not one of these commanders passed a test to become a commander, or even capt!!!!!
I agree with the cash bar idea. Non drinkers should not have to subsidize those who will need to take a cab home.
DJ's should be equipped to play a variety of music.
How about the white shirts on each watch subsidize their peeps? if 1 Capt, 2 Lt's and 7 Sgt's can't come up with say --- $800 --- toward their peoples' tickets....~80~ people on the watch, $10 discount per person....
I choose not to go to most of the district retirement/xmas parties, and you know what? If you don't show up to mine, I won't think you're a jagoff, so please don't think I'm a jagoff if I don't show up to yours.
And yes, camaraderie is much better at the watch parties than the district parties.
Looney Rooney says: Did you ever wonder how these station creatures look in the mirror at themselves? Most of them need a lesson about the words CHARITABLE, VOLUNTARY, GIVING, OPENHANDED. They walk around the station with an “Attendance & Absence Sheets” list and strong arm people to purchase tickets to these F@#%^$% popularity parties. If you don't pay they mark you on the A & A sheet in red ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, Then they make sure that the Sgt.s and Lt.s know who didn't pay for a ticket. They even tell you that they have to get a head count and tell the Sgt or Lt.s who didn't pay..OOOhhhhhhhhhhhhh..then they say it's probably better that you buy a ticket even if your not going to attend, Then they suggest that you buy a ticket waive the purchased ticket around in the air so that people (bosses) know you bought a ticket and then give the ticket to one of your buds so that their wife or friends can use the ticket.
Instead of walking around the office turning off the lights and hiding in the restroom these office creatures should pick up a file and try solving a case!
Then it will be time to collect for a bunch of Sgts. at thirty or forty dollars per officer. Like they have done so much that they actually deserve these gifts, offerings, handouts ..... for what?,
I have bosses I like, I spend time with them, If I want to buy one lunch, I will. If I want to buy one a drink, I will. WHY? Because I want to VOLUNTARY!!!!!! As so can they!
I also have bosses I don’t like and often avoid being around them, Why? Because I can…as so can they!
Why don’t these office creatures collect from them and get a party going for the people who tow the line everyday.. The people who get the job done, who show up everyday, the people who know their jobs, do their jobs and are not busy looking for reasons not to do their jobs! Yeah put that in your e-cigar and smoke it.
Then they will DEMAND twenty $ per officer for their commander's Xmas gift….. nice ..$ 20 Xs 150-200 officers……..TALK ABOUT PLAY TO PAY !!!!!!!.
Then stickers....then paper gym shoes... then paper diapers.......then whatever...
Many if not all of these charities are in need, we knoe that , we get it… and are very important! and do wonderful work.!.. but Gee Wiz.... See a poster on a wall and give VOLUNTARILY is one thing and that’s the way they are suppose to operate,, taking A&A sheets and strong arming anyone (especially in these times) with threats that your telling that someone didn't VOLUNTEER to give at the office … IN THE ATTEMPTS OF SHAMING SOMEONE OR GIVING POWER TO SOME BOSS TO USE THIS TO FUKC SOMEONE WITH THE SHIT ASSIGNMENTS IS ABSOLUTLY RIDICULOUS…. SHAME ON YOU for hiding in your little corners until you hear the bell that signals that you have to push Tickets, stickers, pieces of paper, candy, pop corn, pop corn, raffle tickets, wrapping paper, cookies, toffee, discount coupons, pins, caps, hats T-shirts… WHATEVER!
You office creature don’t know what % of our pay already goes to charitable organizations, on our own VOLUNTARILY !!!! Organizations that WE feel NEED OUR HELP… but we don’t walk around the office chasing people and publicly forcing them to give to our choices.. Yes we give to cancer fights because we have someone that is close to us who is fighting or has unfortunately fought is loosing or has lost and we GIVE IN THEIR NAMES …….NOT YOURS so you could keep your precious spot or in some Commander’s name so he could wooooo J-FED to keep his/her precious spot…
You jusT FUKCING wait for that FUKCING bell to ring because that’s YOUR signal to get off your BIG FAT ASS and do something to protect your PRECIOUS office creature position!
Capt. MB in 14 paid for a luncheon when a watch PO (not an inside guy)retired early in the year. When was the last time something like that happened.
