Cubs Almost Sold

Only one buyer in the market now:
  • After nearly two years of intrigue, the billionaire Ricketts family has emerged as the winning bidder to purchase the Chicago Cubs from Tribune Co. for about $900 million, sources close to the situation said this evening.

The family will now complete negotiations with Tribune Co.

  • The family patriarch, J. Joe Ricketts, grew up in Omaha and started a discount stock brokerage. In the 1990s he transformed the company into an Internet trading powerhouse now known as TD Ameritrade Holding Corp.
We don't really care for baseball, as we've stated before. We're hockey people. Our only interest in this is what it'll do to the Tribune's debt load and whether or not it saves them from bankruptcy in the next few years.

In the meantime, the comments are open to belittle the Cubs chances for this year.

I offered them $901 million but they wouldn't take my check or an IOU. Bastards!

If I was a Billionaire, I would change my name if it was Ricketts.

Just when does that name come in handy?

"Are you related to that childhood disease Rickets, which is a softening of bones in children, potentially leading to fractures and deformity?"

"No?"

"Just thought I'd ask."

As far as professional sports teams go, I love baseball and football, but have always and will always bleed Orange & Black.

And as much as I do enjoy baseball & football, it wouldn't kill me it all teams never played another game at all.

Hockey is the ONLY sport worth watching. ;)

Go Flyers!

Nice profit according to the paper in 1981: The clan (Wrigley)sold the team and Wrigley Field to the media company, which owns the Chicago Tribune, for $20.5 million. Maybe this guy wants to buy a police department?

The Cubs only chance next year is if George Steinbrenner buys them. But with their tradition in the playoffs they should be bought by a folding chair company!

In the Chicago Tribune this morning, "Cubs fans want new owners to keep traditions at Wrigley Field"

What traditions would those be? The traditions of losers? Of blowing big games?

I for one, want the old traditions swept up and throw away. How about a new tradition? WINNING! EXCELLENCE! NO MORE SAD SACK BUMS!

That's a start.

Now you tradition bound Cubs fans take your old Cub traditions home and go get your fucking shine box!

I offerred to match my flop dues amount from my check as a good faith deposit, and promised to pay the balance from my upcoming retro check, but that offer was rejected when the Trib found out that Shortshanks was covering the check
