Olympic Mascot Proposal
The Reader's Ben Joravsky has an interesting article about the Olympics and a close look at some of the outlays the City is proposing to make these the best damn games ever! He points out that the City wants to spend $10.5 million on a mascot. The Tribune's Eric Zorn senses a quick easy blog entry and proposes a reader's contest to save the City $10.5 million.

Check out the FOX 32 interview with pension trustee Michael Shields calling out John Gallagher (executive director of the Chicago Patrolman's Pension Board) for trying to steal our Pension money to pay for his secretary's Law School tuition for 4 years with our Pension money. That would be $22,000 a year. A total misuse of our money at a cost of $88,000 dollars.
Sadly but simply said, our Mayor has lost it. From his recent appointments to preside over education and transportation to spending hundreds of millions of dollars on the possibility of having the Olympics here. Especially when the city is not only broke but in the hole.
Mayor Daley has been selling off every revenue producing agency without any regards as to what is going to replace the hundred of millions of dollars in lost revenue EACH YEAR for the next 99 years.
Like the dope addict selling his blood for dope money, Daley is selling everything the city has to replace all the billions we lost due to his and his father's politics in this city. From out right graft, kickbacks, over priced contracts and theft to mismanagement. I wish I had a crystal ball to see how many billions we lost due to the Daleys.

The Walther PPK and PPK/S despite of it's reputation is the most over rated handgun in the world. Take it from someone who HAD one, it will take a chunk out of the web of your hand when the slide goes back and it is exceptionally jam prone due to the very small ejector port.

An officer from the A/4 gun team was in court on duty testifying on a case. He walked out of court and while crossing the street was hit by a car a suffered devastating injuries. Yesterday he went in front of the pension board and instead of 75% disability he was only given 50% because the Pension Board said his injuries did not occur while he was working. My point is it is great Mike is all over T.V. calling people out but shouldn't Mike be working just as hard to get coppers what they entitled to? Maybe if he had worked a little harder this officer could have gotten a 75% pension.

Anyone watch Fox News at 10 tonight? YOUR Pension Fund is paying over $22,000 a year for law school for a secretary of the Executive Director, John J. Gallagher, Jr.
John J. Gallagher’s reasoning was, “we have $2.8 billion in our fund.” This is about $2 billion less than two years ago.
Why is our fund paying for this? The pension board does not have or need a full time attorney! So what’s the secretary going to do after she finishes law school, say so long suckers!
Why when the patrolmen’s trustee’ brought up a motion to stop paying for law school for John Gallagher’s secretary, it was shot down with a 3-3 vote. Mike Shields, Patrolman, Mike Lazzaro, Sgt. and Stephanie D. Neely, City Treasurer voted to stop paying.
Why did the Retiree’s Trustee, Kenneth Hauser, vote to continue paying along with 2 other city appointed trustees? Kenny’s vote would have made it a 4-2 in favor of stopping this madness!

There will not be a pension in approximately 6 years. At one time I thought it would last 10, but not with what they have allowed to happen. THEY are the pension board and their freebies given to them by Grade D investment firms. You know, free trips, cocktail parties and the like.

I was informed that you can now pull up what percentage of manpower vs. full staffing is on the streets at any given time via the CLEAR system. Give it a try. Last night we had 19 DISTRICTS running at UNDER 65% MANPOWER with only 4 districts at 80% or higher.
Go onto Web Mapping (right above webmail exchange) and on the right toward the bottom you can pull up the daily A&A map of manpower. Im not in front of a dept PC so I cant tell you exactly the heading but you can find it... that is, until they shut it down because of how pathetically short this department is staffed as of late.

Last month, our new pension trustee Mike Shields tried to get rid of an investment manager that has lost nearly half of a $50m investment. He lost that battle. This month, he tried to stop the pension fund from paying for law school for the "Executive Director's" personal secretary. He lost, but at least he's making some waves and shining a light on the BS. There are four trustees that are/were the police. Why don't they all vote for the right thing? And, who exactly is the secretary's clout? Answers, anyone? It must be good.

There are many compact 9mm Lugar hanguns about the same size that I wish the department would let us carry.

An officer from the A/4 gun team was in court on duty testifying on a case. He walked out of court and while crossing the street was hit by a car a suffered devastating injuries. Yesterday he went in front of the pension board and instead of 75% disability he was only given 50% because the Pension Board said his injuries did not occur while he was working. My point is it is great Mike is all over T.V. calling people out but shouldn't Mike be working just as hard to get coppers what they entitled to? Maybe if he had worked a little harder this officer could have gotten a 75% pension.

Why don't you post the next date you plan on calling out someone, or something at the pension board so some of officers concerned about our pension can go there. Maybe a presence of force can persuade these people to stop blowing some, if not all, of our money. I would like to retire someday (soon) and know that I will receive a pension till my dying day, then my wife can receive her widow pension till her dying day.
I don't mean to be critical, but I've shown the logo to several civilians and they don't get it...they said, why is the guy holding a spike? Think it needs to be tweaked, to a flame coming out, then, smoke fading. Sorry, just telling you for the masses to get it.........
