Posted in the CO Book and read at roll call, Incumbent Captain Bids are out. Our Captain said (s)he wasn't going anywhere so don't get our hopes up. But that means they'll be blessing Captains in a week or two. How many and who are they?

I can tell you one thing it wont be 43X. Rumor has it he is being re-assigned and its not to captain!
Lt. Bipolar just started serving a suspension yesterday. Don't have the full story about why she's on unpaid furlo, but odds are good she'll be coming back from vacation as a newly-minted Capt.
God save us all.
Mostly all from Headquarters without a clue about district law enforcement and angling for a gold star. Thay will come into the district start telling the LT. who knows the watch everything they have done wrong, piss everyone off and move on. The people who have been doing the job don't have a chance.
Captains are doing their Round One bidding right now. After that, they do a Round Two bidding to see if anyone wants one of the spots vacated by a Captain who decided to move in Round One. Its after this second round that the new Captains will be given an opportunity to move around.
No good word yet on when the class will be announced, but it is getting close.
Also, we still don't know if they are going to do it like the last time where 25 or so people are trained for captain, but only 10 are promoted right now, with the rest getting promoted as needed. They might go back to training only what they are promoting right now, like it used to be. Maybe someone at the academy or Personnel can help on that.
as rumors go, first it was 9, then 11 (with more "trained", but not promoted right away); March 16th? All heavyweights to be sure...
Who cares where are the P.O's for Christ sake?? All we need more useless chiefs, no Indians.
What a waste. That means plenty of money in the budget for the rest of us. Right?

About 5 years ago the Pension Board was contemplating moving and the land across from the FOP was discussed, at that time the statement was made by Robert F. Reusche President, (City Appointed Trustee, Retired Vice Chairman of the Board of The Northern Trust Company), made the statement, that we had a star, and that we could use public transportation free. This was BEFORE the remodeling and a NEW lease was signed.
One of the best perks in this lease is ALL employees and trustees get a FREE MEMBERSIP to the health club in the building.
The 10 year lease was signed with an option to opt out after 5 years, at approximately $15,000 a month. We are now at the 4 year mark in that lease.
With that being said, at the Pension Board meeting last week, a credit union representative spoke to the Pension Board trustees, offering the Credit Union Building for $4.5 Million, and that was the starting figure, it is negotiable . AGAIN, the statement was made by Mr. Reusche, we could use public transportation. Kenny Hauser made the argument that it would make life easier for the retirees, disabled officers, and all CPD officers in general to have the office across from the FOP.
They don’t want to make it easier for you get to a Pension Board meeting. They don’t want you to know what they are doing.
The Pension Board has not made a final decision yet, so if you have strong feelings on this issue. You should start showing up to the Pension Board Meetings. If you can’t make a meeting call the office, 312-744-3891.

That former Research & Development Ranger captain who looks like Steve Buscemi wears his Indiana Jones outfit to work on the third watch in that little northside lakefront district. It helps him come up with new top ten missions and handouts for the troops! He never wore clothes like that before the big promotion to captain, but what would you expect from a guy who is that cool. Just ask him. Don’t worry T, us ladies really do dig it and you! Ha!
I don't know who they are but I just hope the 3rd Watch Captain in 019 goes somewhere far away, and soon.
OT: Any po's from 010 know anymore about the paramedic getting a part of his thumb bit off at 2500 w.40th. Of course the comments over the Suntimes is blaming CPD for not responding on time. It seemed the girlfriend called for an ambulance not CPD. Will we have to ride on every CFD run now?

Hey, how long ago was the Captain (SES) application order put out?
Seems like they can go through the list of Lt's that applied and get the list of Capt's out in 6 weeks or less. It's all on the legit. Why can't detective and sergeants be graded and promoted in the same type of time frame?
Anyone remember R. Greenwood putting a $100 bill in with the application??? CLASSIC !

I think that address (2500 W. 40th) is in the 009th District Dude! Not 10th District.
Whats the point of having captains when they essentially do the same duties that a lieutenant does? You can make a Lt or Capt an exempt. You can make a Lt or Capt a watch commander.
When they brought capts back years ago they said capts will forever stay in a district and never be able to be made exempt. That turned out to be another bunch of BS.
Capts exist for no valid reason except to drain our pension.

Given the chaos in the management of the department over the last several years and the lack of morale at all levels, anyone who aspires to Captain and above ought to have a rapid-fire escape plan. No matter how good a job you may try to do or even may be doing you're a target for every malcontent going by. Lt. is still the best job on the Dept.
Question. If being a Chicago cop is so shitty, then why do you all do it? There are better places to live than Chicago, and other career paths that would probably be more reasonable.
Let's face it, the city can't go to Hell without you because it's already in Hell. And it will be until they're willing to call out the National Guard, etc. and finally acknowledge how bad the gang situation has gotten.

Won't happen. Joe S. from 018 is too good a boss, one of the last of the real good bosses to work for. They don't make good people like that, only strokes and know nothings and the concubines of the strokes and know nothings.
I tell you one thing, if Joe S. made Captain I would put in a PAR form to go work for him.
There are going to be 25 lieutenants put into the captains class. Of those, 11 will be immediately promoted to captain. The remainder will go on a list and be promoted as needed.
Word is the following people WILL be captains within two weeks:

Why? The 2006 list is still active and many to pick from. No need for another test. They stopped hiring recruits and there is no need for tests.

CL was there before and you want to talk about breeding a bunch of dog ass whiners! MR does what he can with that crack pot watch... I'm not a LT, Capt. or any exempt. All of you bitching about the money it costs to make Captains, stop... They are paying lieutenants Captains' pay every time they need a fill in. Plus they are payiing the Bid LT's and the Captains, time and a half to wok as the watch commanders. The promotions, you know they will be fucked up, will actually save money---may not be good for the guys/gals on the street but at least you'll know who you are working for, shit or not... Better than the "Boss" who doesn't want to know anything and doesn't want to deal with anything or make any decisions because it is not his/her district and he/she thinks you are trying to middle them by telling them what's going on....

I can see Vic making it, if he even put in for it; Avila, Sodini, Ceja, I would say no; Fletcher is a good and competent guy, I could see it; Pena I could also see; Rendon is on the transfer order to 012 on change day, so either she is making it and wanted it to look like she made it from Patrol, when in fact she is from Personnel, as acting Director until a civilan got the spot, or she is done in the building and decided to at least grab a good district; we shall see soon enough, but bet on quite a few females and Ike's brother, per my earlier statement.
Don't forget that Petersen is in Weiss's ear so expect a few "D" unit Lts. perhaps, Staples, Bieblel(if he even put in) and a few tac Lts. from Dugan, watch Lts. need not apply i'm sure....

I hate to say it guys, but the guy from 015 who was ripping the guys from 019 who were ripping Capt. MR,was right. I also work in one of the slower districts and it amazes me how much the guys beef when a Sgt. or Lt. asks them to do something. I mean c'mon, is it too much to ask you to do something? And I'm not really talking about doing anything special. I'm talking about them asking you to simply do your job. How about a mover once in awhile or maybe a few parkers or curfews? How about really paying special attention to that Special Attention the Sgt. gave you? How about actually doing a little foot patrol especially in those nice districts along the lakefront in Area 3 when it's warm out instead of hanging out in a Starbucks? I mean c'mon, when they ask you to do something (like your job), it's not as though they asked you to dig a hole or chop wood. Most of you wouldn't last the day in the private world. How about showing a little pride, a little self respect?

Actually, not true. The job of field Lt was always considered to be the best job on the dept.
When Daley wanted to control all of the capt spots, he ended the rank of capt and created "watch commanders" so he could appoint the clouted and stop "undesirables" from making capt by taking promotional exams. when almost all the capts were gone thru attrition, he brought the rank back as a 100% appointed merit position. These capts were TOLD they would be given preferential consideration for exempt promotions but in reality it was a lie.
As far as Capts existing for no valid reason except to drain our pension, rest assured that their real purpose is allow the daleys to function under cover of "darkness".
Captains have to be trained? To do what? They serve no purpose except to take up space. If every Captain in the city never came into work again, guess what?; No one would notice,

Ok, I keep reading here the the rank of Capt has no reason to exist.... I beg to differ. Without an established WC, you are left with 2, sometimes 3 LT's that take turns being wc, depending on day off group. So on any given day, you have a different WC with a different agenda. WIth a Capt, even when he is off, the watch cannot change too much because he is gonna be back in 2 days.... At least with a Capt. there is one high rank in charge that runs the watch (for better or for worse)

When they brought capts back years ago they said capts will forever stay in a district and never be able to be made exempt. That turned out to be another bunch of BS.

You are SO WRONG, in fact it is spelled out in the contract that Captains are definitely in line for exempt spots. Right now there are about 20 captains who have been promoted to exempt, with more to come. And that is just in the last 4 years or so... Also, yes the city wanted to keep captains in patrol...

It was 2601 W. Cermak at the Little Ceasar's Pizza. A lot of 010 cars tied-up on the usual Saturday night B-S, including a fatal accident and a water main break.
So why did Ambulance 34 get there first?
That’s because the girlfriend called for an ambulance, not the police because her boyfriend having a seizure. (Translation: really fucked-up on dope!)
So when Ambulance 34 gets there and calls for a "Fire Dept 10-1" the Blue Lights and Sirens go on. Sorry the paramedic was hurt, had to admire his cool and toughness.
The bad guy gets in and out of the hospital when he gets off his dope-sick high. The State's Attorney quickly approved felony charges and that was the right thing to do. If it was a cop with the same injury...
A lot of times if I see a CFD Ambulance, or and engine pull up to a house and I will stop and wait to see it they need anything.

Actually it got bit off at 2601 W. Cermak. The city in general shows up to every ambulance call late because by the time their dispatchers communicate with our system the ambulance is already their. The first call CPD recieved was an ambulance 10-1. By that time the damage was done.
Anyone remember R. Greenwood putting a $100 bill in with the application??? CLASSIC !

Whatever the Dept. does, dont make that lecherous Lt. JG from 019 make it. Our taxes will go up again to pay for the new sexual harrassment lawsuits that perv is sure to bring. We are already paying for his last fiasco that the City settled in Federal Court.
Captains have to be trained? To do what? They serve no purpose except to take up space. If every Captain in the city never came into work again, guess what?; No one would notice.

Actually, if you remember what it was like when there were no Captains it sucked....Each Lt wanted things done their way, right wrong or indifferent, there has to be a trump card and that is the rank of captain....and they pay into the pension based on their salary I believe as does everyone that gets a bump up to D-2, D-2a etc....

Sweet Christine has softly landed in 016 effective today.
Now the near-fatal injuries to her ego that resulted from being ceremoniously dumped back to Captain last year have had the chance to heal, helped by almost a full year of 100% legitimate time on the medical roll. She's tanned, rested, and ready to do battle with the legacy of Bipolar Ed for the heart and soul of 016's fortunate sons and daughters. What a tag team.
Also heard the Norridge PD and management of Harlem Irving Plaza have been gracious enough to give her an honorary disabled parking spot (for time served on the medical) in front of Perfumania for her 1977 Pacer Wagon. Anyways, at least she no longer has to suffer the indignity of legally parking the company car.
