Daley Rejects Tax Relief

  • Mayor Richard Daley says he opposes plans to roll back city revenue raising efforts, but does say he believes a City Income Tax, like the 3% levy in New York City, would be a disaster.

Daley rejected aldermanic calls for a 30 day waiting period for any more asset sales like the Skyway or Parking Meters.

[...] He also rejected calls for an end to the 4 dollar a month head tax on each city employee and said he'd oppose any plans for a weekend moratorium on the 3-dollar a car parking tax.

Asked what he thought about the idea of an income tax for Chicago, Mayor Daley says he's always opposed such a plan and still does. He said it would change the course of the city. He said it would be a disaster.
Rolling back some taxes, especially the "head tax" would bring businesses back to the city. Suspending the parking tax would bring in weekend shoppers. The only thing he's close to correct on is the disaster a city income tax would be. And notice that he's completely against any aldermanic interference (review) on his king-like ability to sell city assets at the drop of a hat.

Now why is he listening to this advice and not the advice we gave him a year ago that the "bottled water tax" would be a disaster; the property tax hikes in the middle of a housing slump was stupid; and why couldn't his brother put the breaks on the Toddler's sales tax hike that has led to business not only fleeing the city, but leaving the county as well and townships holding actual secession votes? And winning them.

I know of a small Villiage close to the City who in the past had 1 Police Officer trained on all laws pertaining to Semi-Trucks. Weights, Saftey, Proper Plating, Licensing Stickers Etc.. They made a fortune on this 1 officer. Imagine if we had several. The revenue would come from across the US, not only Chicago residents. Imagine that.

Ah, yes, the bottled water tax. At my local Jewel, there was always an entire aisle of bottled water in various sizes and brands. Yesterday, they were washing the floors, so I detoured down that aisle (which I haven't done since the tax went into play).

Apparently, a lot of people aren't setting foot in that aisle any more. The shelf space allotted to bottled water is about one THIRD of what it used to be. Sad. He's driving revenue from the city and he's affecting people's very livelihoods.

Me, I buy several cases of the stuff when I find myself many miles west of the city. The mayor (and his ego) is rejecting the relief that could salvage our city.

Why would he roll back any tax? He has hundreds of millions alreaady in his personal piggy bank called "TIFS", he uses that as a reward for the good alderthieves who all 50 obey the master. When will daley be indicted? ever? How many more will fall on the sword? Why did he give rosiemarie andolino despite no skill at all the 275K job running O'Hare? Hello victor reyes will rosie talk?

Chicago revitalization plan: Despite uncertainties, $15.5 billion proposal for downtown is moving forward

Transportation, parks and commercial space would be rejuvenated and expanded

By Jon Hilkevitch | Tribune reporter
April 24, 2009

It reads like a lavish and bottomless wish list, but Chicago's $15.5 billion proposal to rejuvenate and expand transportation, parks and commercial space downtown is moving forward, despite uncertainties about the economy and whether the city will host the Olympics in seven years.

There has been relatively little public discussion about such a massive endeavor that is being launched in the heart of the city and that would have a lasting impact through the six-county region and the state.

Yet the Chicago Central Area Action Plan¿a road map filled with visions and goals as well as dozens of specific projects, construction timetables and estimated costs¿is expected to be approved by the City Council as early as next month.

Public transportation projects valued at $14.2 billion make up the bulk of the plan, which the Daley administration hopes to complete by 2020. Some elements would be fast-tracked if Chicago is selected this year to host the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Really wants you want to go out and write some tickets and make some arrests, doesn't it?

DALEY NEVER MET A TAX HE DIDN'T LIKE

The only thing keeping the Greedy Little Punk from a City Income Tax is the memory of what happened to Governor Richard Ogilvy. An honest guy, a former Cook County Sheriff and one of our few governors in memory that didn't wind up in jail. But it was political suicide for him to start a State Income Tax. As you noticed, it was never repealed.

Shortshanks is probably afraid that that would be the last straw for even the yuppie sheeple. But look out if he decides NOT to run, he would put in a City Income Tax, take the heat and hope his anointed successor would win out against a split minority vote.

More money would be squeezed out of the middle class again, (especially city employees), while the rich could move or shelter their incomes out of town.

WE HAVE ALLIES OUT THERE

I was in a suburban post office the other day and I was the only customer, and there were three clerks. When there is crowd the place there is usually only one clerk.

The clerks were talking among themselves about what a fool Blago was and how they hope he goes down in flames fast. I joined in and added my two cents about Blago and then about Shortshanks. WOW did they heat up. They were all Chicago residents and couldn't stand him either. I told them some of the shit he's been doing with the taxes and the city employees and how we pray for the day he is arrested by the feds. The were hoping for the same thing. As I completed my business and wished them a good day I told them to vote, and they said they always voted.

P.S. Postage rates go up next next month so stock up on the FOREVER STAMPS.

Boy, I don't think so, SCC ?

I'm thinking if I had a business that I had already moved out of the city and it was still viable in the suburbs, why in the hell would I EVER want to move back into the city ?

Maybe someone else might, but I sure as hell wouldn't !

I know, BUT this money is from the Federal Stimulus package and, if I'm not mistaken, it can ONLY be used for NEW municipal infrastructure projects and the like, and NOT to cover holes in the current budget or for city employee salaries.

For the contract, the Daley Crime Family will have to lift up the billion dollar Olympic mattress and pull out some of that cash !

You're right 10:00 AM. Other jurisdictions make a fortune on trucking violation enforcement. But oddly, in Chicago trucks pass with virtual invisibilty on the city streets. Why? How is it ok to bone the everyday motorist with the laws that fill a 3" thick book and use them for "revenue enhancement" and not commercial motoring. Baddah bing! I tink I knoze wize....keep telling yourself it's all legit

Bullshit. There is no one in the country better at pulling a bunch of dough from the bottom of the pile. If he needed it to go buy some wrought iron fences or flower pots it would be done, you can bet your mortgage payment on that.

Gee, do I really have to spell it out for you, like you're a fucking 2 year old baby?

Here's a hint:

Painful enough to do what it will take to drastically reduce the corruption and incompetence?

Or just painful enough for you to sit on your ass and watch?

You know how a junkie either has to hit bottom and discover that he really doesn't want to die, to ever have a chance at recovering from his addiction?

That junkie is what this city's voting, and non voting, citizens are.

Their addiction is to the false belief that daley and his crew are 'good for Chicago'.

To break that addiction, the hard truths are what's necessary.

And those hard truths won't be believed by the use of words alone, they have to be experienced.

Those who understand this are doing their part to permit the natural progression of the daley policies to come to fruition, bitter fruit though they may be.

If you choose to be one of those who think that they are doing what's 'good for Chicago' by continuing to coat these bitter truths with your flavor of sugar coating, that's your decision, based on your values and priorities.

But the truth is, to save our city we must first expose what's destroying it, and what's destroying it is your brand of sugar coating the truth being used so successfully by the daley criminal entrepreneurs to do what they do, namely, steal what we, the taxpayers, are forced to pony up.

But, you keep on telling yourself that daley is good for Chicago, as he and his pals are all depending upon you to do.

Well, let's see:

You quote a comment and post your response:

"I hope, I prey jagoff shortshanks does not rollback any of the taxes. This whole scenario is playing out perfectly. The comment you quoted expressed a desire for daley to continue doing the things he has been doing, things that are the cause of the rapidly accelerating decline in our city's livability, on so many levels, so as to, finally, compel the mentally impaired citizens to open their eyes, turn on their dormant brain cells and see what we see, know what we know and understand what we understand, namely, that it's daley's 20 years worth of retarded imitation of his father's style of 'governing' that are the cause of that decline.

You responded with what I interpreted as a lack of understanding of this need, by the mentally retarded citizenship, to experience, in as explicit and undeniable a manner as necessary, the results of the daley regime's regular practices, sans the sugar coated lies doled out to said citizens by the daley media propaganda machine.

You acknowledged the harms visited upon our city by daley, yet appeared to disagree with the quoted poster's assessment of the need for the citizens to experience the full consequences of tolerating those harms and their continuing to allow daley and company to remain in control of our city and county governments.

Your further responses, to my responses to your responses, indicate that you choose to refuse to make the connection between minimizing the harms daley has imposed upon this city's residents and the ongoing enabling of daley to continue to do so.

Because, unless the daley clan, and most all of his clan's associates and supporters happen to catch the Mexican Flu and die from it, the only practical means to rid ourselves of the daley's, madigan's, stroger's, bank's, burke's, et al., is if the citizens wake up and vote out these motherfuckers in the 2011 Municipal Elections.

Because I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for the Feds to escort these slick and polished criminals down to the MCC.

Are you?
