Four Dead Wednesday Night

Let's see...
  • warm weather approaching - check
  • manpower stretched to the limit - check
  • weekend - wait a minute...it's Wednesday night?
And look what happens:
  • A motorist was shot in the back of his head and killed Wednesday night as he drove into an intersection in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, officials said.

Robert Murray, believed to be in his 20s, was shot shortly before his vehicle crashed into another vehicle at West 70th and South Sangamon Streets. Police said it wasn't immediately clear if the person who shot him was inside or outside the car.

  • Two men were slain Wednesday in separate shootings not far from each other on the West Side, officials said.

Willie Parker, 38, was shot by at least one occupant of a passing vehicle about 5:45 p.m. in the 1000 block of North Monticello Avenue, officials said.

[...] More than eight hours earlier, 24-year-old Juan Hernandez, of Cicero, was shot in the 4400 block of West Augusta Boulevard.
  • Lamont Johnson, of the 7800 block of South Calumet Avenue, pulled up in his vehicle to a Marathon gas station near East 79th Street and South King Drive about 10:10 p.m.

What the hell? Did J-Fed's pet unit have the night off? Because there's no way that the Districts can be staffed this inadequately. J-Fed said we're up to strength.

So who are you going to believe - a superintendent who has no idea about big city policing but says everything is hunky-dory...

...or the dead bodies showing up at the morgue on a cool Wednesday night?

you missed one a women was beat to death wed afternoon in 004. Chalkie cant shoot them all.

We are calling this a death investigation but she was beat to death be interesting if it gets called something besides a murder.

Regina Warren, of the 1300 block of West 81st Street, was found unresponsive at the Lake Motel, 9101 S. Stony Island Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Motel housekeeping staff found Warren in a second-floor room at the motel and notified authorities at about 12:24 p.m., police said. She may have suffered head trauma, according to the medical examiner's office.

Police at the scene would not comment beyond confirming that the death may have been violent. There were signs the woman suffered trauma, but the case was being classified as a death investigation by Calumet Area detectives until an autopsy is performed, said Police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.

There were no signs of forced entry to the motel room in which she was found, Mirabelli said.

In February 2008, a man was shot to death by police at the same motel after threatening to kill himself and brandishing a handgun at a motel clerk when she unlocked his room for officers.

I know this is not going to be a popular post but I thought I’d share this for what it’s worth. After reading so many posts about the true number of sworn personnel on the job (I’ve even posted on several Trib and Sun Time’s comment sections for reporters to look into it) I went to the Better Government Association’s web site where you can check the salaries of any state, county, and municipal employee. The site claims it obtained the info using FOIA requests, but I cannot attest to its accuracy.

I couldn’t find an easy way to do this so what I did is cut and pasted all the names into an excel spreadsheet, then sorted out any non-CPD positions as well as any non-sworn CPD positions. Needless to say it took over eight hours just to get through the “L’s” or the 12th letter of the alphabet, and at that point the total count shows 7,074. This number convinced me enough that we are in fact pretty close to the 13,000 or 13,500 number that keeps getting touted since at just before half way through the alphabet there are over 7,000 sworn members.

I did notice that the BGA list seems to be accurate only until Dec. 31st based on some people I saw listed that left since then, but even taking the number down by 10% for any errors, this list still reflects the number we keep hearing.

Of this, 5,263 were Police Officers, 780 were Police Officers assigned as either Detective, Marine Unit, etc…, 12 were Police Officers per Arbitrator’s Decision, 675 were Sgts., 127 were Lts., and 38 were Capts. with a few other titles but you get the idea….

This does not break down where anyone works, how many are in Patrol, etc...

All right, let me have it now....

I'm a long time reader and poster of your blog. I have an idea: With the rapidly approaching war weather, why don't you set up an "online poll" for police officers? I think the first poll question should be: "Do you believe this upcoming summer will be:
(a). Quiet. J-Fed will motivate the troops to quell the violence. Ceasefire will maintain the peace.
(b.) Kind of busy. Lots of people are unemployed, but the Obama's stimulus package will save the day.
(c). Busy. Not only are lots of people unemployed, they're homeless.
(d). A shit storm. Not only are lots of people unemployed and homeless, they're angry.
(e). A MAJOR SHITSTORM. People are not only unemployed, homeless, and angry, they are ARMED!

Put me down for selection "(e)".

The "pet Unit" was first onscene..... The Officers attempted to save this victim who was still moving his car pushing a "parked" car down the block smoking up the vehicle with his burning tires, wore down to the rim. After the smoke cleared it was determined he was shot, (doa), and the Pet Unit held the scene till the District Pos arrived. What did you do to earn your pay asshole? The Unit is out there but apparently, no one can measure up to the Police Officer you are! Where do you work? I guess I'll have to look for the District (or Desk) in Chicago that has no crime committed, to find you. You probably could teach all Police how to be everywhere at once! F*** You loser.... Give your star back now, I know a 14 year old who still wants to be a cop....

A comment posted on the Chicago Reader's Clout City political blog:

"re Hugh
April 23rd - 12:57 a.m.

Actually, Hugh, they'll do nothing to, in any way, interfere with the schemes which they are all, directly or indirectly, profiting from, either in real money or political capitol. As in 'between politicians' political capitol.

All this latest bullshit is their likely to be successful attempts to, once again, feed the 'voters' the pablum that the toothless voters are yammering for.

Give the voters anything that requires chewing and they're fucked, because they've yet to cut their baby teeth, let alone adult canines.

Not to sound totally apathetic, but, it really is hopeless, what with most of the south and west side residents voting according to what they're told will be 'in their best interests', (those interests being to continue to suck at the taxpayers' tit), and the taxpayers being third and fourth generations removed from having personal experience of anything close to a working democracy, totally indoctrinated into submitting to 'da Chicago Way', there may be 50,000 citizens, total, in this city that have even one brain cell left that works. Maybe. And most of them are either cops or firemen.

That's really where there might be some reason to hope, the hatred and contempt with which the cops and firemen hold daley and his criminal cohorts in.

In the end, it won't be the typically ball-less 'intellectuals' who'll boot daley and his band of merry thieves out of office, it'll be the cops and firemen who, because they deal with the essence of reality every day, can't be fooled by any of the bullshit, mumbo jumbo, hibbity jibbity crap that the rest of this city's citizens swallow daily, like so many blow job whores.

As always, it's the cops and firemen who'll save us from our own stupidities.

And, as always, it will be in spite of our ignorant actions and substantially devoid of any appreciation on our parts."

One gets the feeling that it makes little difference in some circles; the people in the car with you are probably more dangerous than that loud gang on the corner.

Rich country, this America. Nobody works but everyone has designer clothes with the price tags still hanging from them and drives around in automobiles shooting each other with guns. You can have all the children you want and someone else will feed them.

Is it any wonder that people in remote villages hear these stories and pack themselves into freight containers, cling to the inside of aircraft wheel wells, squeeze in between freight cars to get here?

They gotta see this.

Off topic...Good quote i came accross
You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

It seems that J-Fraud is a trendsetter. I just read the following in regards to the CIA.
"Mark Lowenthal, a former senior adviser to CIA Director George J. Tenet. Said of Obama, "He is going to end up with a national clandestine service that will not be willing to do anything because they feel he will not be there for them when they need him."

Chicago is a trailblazer!!!

Aren't guns against the law in Chicago? There should be a law against murder, then no one would do it.

What happened to the Iraqi war tactics that Merit Pet Force was using?

Did they switch to the U.N. or French Iraq tactics?

2016 OLYMPICS: PRIORITY ONE
Anonymous said...
Daley is Teflon! The citizens here love him! He is so Bridgeport! All his stuttering and grasping for words only endears him more to the voters! If you talk to people all over the city and suburbs, they think he is doing a great job for the city! It is is insane! Even visitors drool over how clean and beautiful Chicago is and the lakefront, like "Oh my God!" Daley's gimmick continues to work! Indicting him will never happen! He is like Whitey Bulger, working secretly with the Feds, tossing them info occasionally on corruption while he goes freely about his financial scams and construction deals unscathed! This Olympic thing is a win win for him! If he gets it, his friends and cohorts make money! If he doesn't get it, his friends still made lots of money on real estate deals, salaries for all their family and friends and jobs with the city after this all fades away! There are not enough investigative reporters in the country that can keep up with all the scams and "under the table" deals going on behind the scenes trying to get this Olympics! He could care less about layoffs or his alledged "250M dollar defecit!"
All just a matter of moving money around to make it appear as if the city is going broke! A miracle will occur after all the unions have knelt before Daley! Voila! No more defecit!

Well I hate to break this one SCC but Pam Zekman has been doing a undercover watch of officers working CTA Special 5th watch leaving early. She has been filming this for a about 3 weeks and is now taping her on-air pieces the last couple of days. She tried to confront a couple of officers the other day with the camera running. The fucking troll looks like Yoda.

Actually, according to his own admission, he only put in half the work, got a half assed result and gets a 'good job' from a fellow hand job.

We cant be on every street corner all the time. they bitch out the only few coppers that are still doing police work these days of the jody weis head hunt party and they demand more. keep fucking with what little workers you have left, see where that will leave you. fucking white shirt boneheads.

Can't walk past these asshats in the reviewing stand, especially if civilian Masters is there, standing on a milk crate. It's just too degrading.

The Vietnam era military technique has proven itself not to work.

An area of conflict, send in troops, eliminate problem (at least look good), leave area.

Problem returns (in reality never left, only laid low)

How bout a little better technique, flood area with personnel, subdue ongoing violence, maintain with adequate manpower until enemy combatants are eliminated.

Basically keep manpower at district level, get to know problem areas/individuals, search & destroy

ONE unit used for acute problems, not unit after unit after unit......

A bandaid cannot stop a hemorrage, you need constant pressure

A "man with a shotgun", "a man shot" a "robbery-in progress", etc. comes over the zone. Agreed, you roll, "fearless".

FEAR is good. You respond with caution. FEAR keeps you safe and alive. If the time comes when you no longer feel that adrenalin rush and a protective sense of fear, your colleagues and loved ones are more likely to find your picture hanging on a station house wall.

I asked rhetorically somewhere in here how many fences, stop signs, street lights, etc.the sidewalk-driving illegals along Grand Avenue were going to knock down this weekend.

Well, we're off to a good start. Answered my own question. Last night I saw they'd nailed the pay phone at Grand and Narragansett, SW corner, right by the Chinese place the coppers like. Looked fine before they tore it out of the foundation and smashed it against the wall into a kind of U-shape...

The night is still young!

Sorry, I meant SE corner. Tired.

I am told that they obliterated one of the J.C. Decaux Parisian plate glass bus shelters at Grand and Oak Park some time back -- and that there was some hapless woman sitting in it at the time...
