A mother and son are scheduled to appear in court today after being charged in a killing last week. The son is accused of pulling the trigger, and the mom is charged with driving the getaway car and hiding evidence, police said.
Delfino Juarez, 18, is charged with first-degree murder. His mother, Karen Juarez, 49, is charged with obstruction of justice.
Delfino Juarez allegedly shot 18-year-old Jesus Sanchez Friday in the 2000 block of West Garfield after exchanging gang signs with him. Karen Juarez allegedly was driving the van that her son fired from, police said.
Obstruction? Sounds to us like "accessory" to murder. But this is Cook County, so that's probably all Felony Review would approve.
But how do you convince mom to come along and help you kill someone? Do you do it over breakfast? While she's doing the laundry? After she opens her Mother's Day card? Becasue we have to figure timing is everything.

I imagine the conversation went like this:

When the public sees or hears that it has been two years, they think to themselves, that is quite a long time. Just think what has happened in two years...the gas crunch, insurance and bank failures, new spending through the roof, etc.

When I was a teenager my Mom would help me pick out clothes and teach me table manners. She wasn't a very good driver, so she couldn'y be my wheel man for a driveby, but she did the best she could.

About 15 years ago I handled a driveby in which one person was killed. The driver and shooter were both charged with 1st degree murder and it went to a jury trial. The shooter was acquitted (boy, was the judge pissed), but the driver was convicted and received 40 years. I figure he should becoming up for parole soon.
First came the little league mom. Then came the soccer mom. Now i give you the drive-by mom, driving a piece of shit conversion van. The van has stickers on the rear window of a van with an arm sticking out the window shooting a gun with "Drive-by MOM CLUB Chicago"
...and lets not forget that fine young lad here in downstate Ill. who strangled to death his wife and two children. What a world we see on a daily basis! Frankly, I'm amazed you don't see more people in our profession going postal
