EPA Shutting Down Stations?

This is amusing:
  • O.T...LMAO! new quote of the day. The EPA was here in 011 and did a surprise inspection, when said officer advised said Agent that, all questions should be directed to HQ she related.... "Daley will hear about this and he'll fix it." I think I hurt myself laughing so hard..
    LIFM
An e-mail, also from 011, said the EPA was looking for lead content violations in the Range and something about battery disposal.

No word yet from 025 if ancient Indian burial grounds qualify the entire facility for EPA Superfund assistance.

About a year ago the building TRU is housed in was inspected. They found 19 violations, a year later the carpet has been cleaned. Don't expect much from them, they told the complaining officer that they do not have authority to force corrections in government run facilities. THEY CAN INSPECT AND MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS ONLY.

ATTENTION EPA:

Check the leaking and rusted out gas tanks under most of the old stations and areas. They're still there even though the city changed the district locations.

They leak leaded gasoline AND the cover up has deep roots.

I wish somebody would look into the shit that leaks from the ceiling in the women's locker room in 011. Yes...actual FECES leak from the men's washroom upstairs everytime a toilet is flushed...and we all know that men usually pee in the urinals and use the toilets for more serious business. The ceiling tiles are missing where the leak is and it drips on your head as you pass in or out of the door. You can see the stains running down the wall. People have actually filled out exposure reports because the problem keeps being ignored. I mean, I can handle having no hot water, cockroaches and a toilet that barely flushes in there, but I have to draw the line at getting a poop shower everytime I walk in the door. NASTY!!

I don't know if this is true but if it is it's way overdue. The old 009th dist would've been a wet dream for an E.P.A. or O.S.H.A. inspector. There were so many violations there the poor guy would've been writing for days. I'm sure the city has our best interests in mind though!
Why has King Ritchie gotten a pass for so long? I'd say it's time he pays the piper.

Check it out, but I was hearing something that ALL of our firing ranges are subjects of interest to the EPA. For some (unknown?) reason, lead levels that been abnormally high in some ranges lately. Apparently a safety concern for those who work the firing lines...

I don't know about lead violations in the range but the men's locker room in 011 reeks of urine most of the time and it even wafts up into the hallway on the first floor. We have a sewer problem that nobody has fixed in over a decade, maybe longer than that.

Call OSHA. I used to work at 11/State, and when the toilets in the mens lockup got plugged, shit and all would pour through the ceiling. We would grab what we could and run. Even the news showed up. They moved us to the second floor after that. There was asbestos falling of the ceiling, walls, etc. I guess they figured it was cheaper to move us than fix it.....but at least we did get moved.

Forced asbestos abatement is a crock of shit. Asbestos is perfectly harmless UNTIL YOU DISTURB IT AND CREATE DUST BY REMOVING IT. While you're removing it a large amount will be carried around by air currents for hours. Then it'll settle in the air ducts and slowly spread due to vibrations.

...and didn't the EPA and state EPA and Chicago "Dept. of Environment" have a complete regulatory gang-bang that grand day some years ago when something like 30,000 small independent gas stations were forced to close by the advent of the new EPA regs. I saw 'em all out there together working out on some miserable little corner place like it was Bhopal or something -- more clipboards and rule books, hardhats and safety vests than you've ever seen.

That was the time when all the big chain stations had expensive excavation work done, new heavy-duty plastic (UHMWPE) tanks put in and backfilled with clean gravel. All the little places were wiped out, never sell gas again, "Cho's Auto Repair and Lawn Mower Sharpening" with petunias in tubs where the pumps used to be.

Thus the full might of the government, hand-in-hand with Big Oil, made this a better place to live.

You should see what happens when you say "leaking underground tank" around private business. I know one industrial supplier who almost didn't survive the assault; they were on his property almost daily for YEARS afterwards, "monitoring test wells," etc. There is a forest of sampling pipes there to this day.

...but Daley leakin' off High-Test into the dirt under Humberto's day-care playground? Ha. Leetle Humberto, he could get seeck eef he dig down ten feet and eat thees dirt. Now cue up the "community activists." "The People! United! Will Never Be..." etc.

Don't worry -- your taxes will increase to pay for any cleanup of City messes.

To the above poster. Why hide behind your anonymity if you are going to throw daggers at the guys and gals that work in 025. Post your real name then maybe your comments would be worth reading.

I am sure you work in a SLOW district where you cant handle more than one job an hour. You are a coward and a pussy and by signing off on your post as anonymous only confirms that belief.

You probably couldnt handle working in a busy district like 025 or 015 or 011. So you stay in your one job an hour or two distrct and keeping stealing your check on the 1St and 16th.

I have worked in 025 my entire career and there are alot of quality and class people that work there and I am proud to say I work there.

Now to those fine officers that work in a slow distrct I am not throwing daggers. God bless you for doing the job you do, I am just ripping the hater.

There is still a very leaky gasoline tank at 51st and Wentworth.

When the garage got a shipment of gasoline the basement at 51st street reeked of strong gasoline fumes.

They simply stopped using the tank, never removed and never cleaned up.

Sure, the EPA regularly reads SCC blog.

Are you nuts? Write letters documenting violations, sign the letters, then mail the letters. EPA doesn't sit around sifting through blogs looking for polluted shit postings from anonymous sources.

Worked in fast districts many years,

Worked in a slow district many years,

Seen do nothing coppers in fast districts,

Seen working coppers in a slow district,

Coppers get killed in fast and slow districts,

Some do nothing coppers are just burned out from being in the game too long,

Some never had a lit flame,

Good coppers will be good coppers regardless of where they are assigned,

If you like where you're assigned, then stay there,

If you don't like where you're assigned, then get some seniority if you don't have any and bid out,

Quick advice....pick the slow districts after you get some time on the job, you will see what I mean.

You have got to be the two stupidest motherfuckers that have ever argued on the blog. Working out west and having a 11th district forearm tattoo doesn't make you cool and it doesn't make you a good cop. Talking like Denzel Washington in Training Day makes you seem like a hopeless wannabe who isn't even the police. Your both stupid so shut up and suck my left nut, it's the only one left.
