Light Sunday Posting

Not much in the way of news today. Though if someone from the Academy wants to tell us what "Tri-River" is, we're all ears.

Otherwise, open post.

Whose brother-in-law manufactures all of the elaborate cast iron gratings (the ones with the hole in the middle for a tree) now being set into the sidewalks along Milwaukee Avenue from the Jeff Park station all the way south to at least Montrose?

Really impressive to see all this concrete being poured, new sidewalks, new street lights in front of failed, "For Lease" businesses.

They're doing this in the Belmont/Central area also.

Nice to see that, despite reports to the contrary, the city is swimming in cash.

"Tri-River" is simply nothing more than "territorial pissings", (commonly referred to as gang grafitti) deposited by none other than the convicted felon gang members who've descended into the academy for open gym and self-defense classes taught by our merit and clout-heavy academy staff.

Rest easy and no cause for concern here, folks. And just for clarification, that freshly-cut Master Lock lying on the floor in front of your academy locker was like that when you left Friday afternoon.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/la-na-healthcare21-2009jun21,0,2776789.story

Reporting from Washington - U.S. drug makers agreed Saturday to shell out $80 billion over the next 10 years to lower the cost of medication for seniors and help pay for President Obama's proposed healthcare overhaul, as part of an agreement hashed out with lawmakers and administration officials.

The deal means the pharmaceutical companies will extend discounts on prescription drugs to millions of seniors who often must pay staggering drug costs not covered by their Medicare plan, according to a White House announcement.

The drug makers also have agreed to pick up some of the costs of the president's plan to remake the nation's healthcare system, legislation he hopes Congress will pass this year.

Got a better on for you. The City took up the newly poured corner sidewalk with the handicapped lattice work that was putdown recently. They replaced it with the red bumpy handicap friendly corner sidewalk. The best part is the opposite corner that is still mud and has never been done. They did this on several corners.

Streets and San replaced a newly poured corner with a new corner and left the opposite corner with no sidewalk, just mud. A total waste of money. Lok into the contract for those red bumpy handicap pieces and I think there is an answer there.

I do not understand why would a officer with clout or waste a favor to ask for the academy? I can understand those that are afraid to work in a beat car. Just like at 35th street, they have females that hide behind office desks, answering phones as secretaries. It seems like a lot of females this year were assigned to desks. Then a few officers with 2 years on that are already hiding at the academy. The officers that actually work at the academy are now working special secret assignments. Towing cars and writing parking tickets every day. 8 officers and a sgt assigned to a district to impound cars and write parking tickets. Gosh, what a waste of a favor to ask for a transfer to the academy.

The Chicago River and its branches are the basis for the "Y" symbology in so much Chicago stuff; Belt Railway of Chicago has a "Y" emblem in their herald, you see it in stonework on bridges, city buildings, etc.

I first thought "Pittsburgh" too, but a Chicago connection is more likely in Chicago. Like someone here said, a lot of these people will be born, live, and be killed within a couple of square miles. Apple doesn't fall far from the tree -- more like "chip bag don' fall far from de sto'."

This was inevitable.

Is this true, did 60% of the 8th grade students attending this school not graduate?????

Tough times at South Side school
A Chicago school made an alarming announcement this week. Close to 60% of its students won't graduate from the eighth grade. The startling figure sent lookups on "Myra Bradwell Elementary School" spiking. An article from CBS 2 Chicago explains that many in the community are wondering who to blame for the students' failure. Some are pointing fingers at the parents, while those same parents are claiming they didn't receive any notice that their children were struggling (the school board claims that written notices were sent).

and it only costs abou 1.700 dollars to train a new recruit!

I 'm speechless what the f--- do we need all those bodies ( instructors ) at the academy for if we don't have the recruits! Send those teachers back to the districts and close the doors to that building. We should send our recruits to the STATE POLICE ACADEMY, at least when they get fired downstate they stay fired, also we don't have to worry about the political hacks who are just gonna be made merit up here.

In response to a previous post stating that the Supt's driver who was promoted to Sgt, is driving to training at the academy in one of the Supt's unmarked cars... Not only has this guy been hanging around HQ when he's supposed to be in class like every other person on that list, whatever the reason he is driving a CPD vehicle, on the City's dime, so he can attend training classes for a "merit" promotion is BS.

I read the posts about his continued use of the car because its a freebie of his unit until he is transfered as a new Sgt. Kids, all I wonder about is his JUDGEMENT. Where is his superior JUDGEMENT?

Apparently he doesn't have much. Apparently he doesn't "get it" that he already has a red flag because he was promoted for being a driver to the Supt. Spending city money on gas to drive to and from training is a slap in every PO's face that is in his class. What a buffoon. He is obviously arrogantly stupid. He would rather save a few dollars on gas than earn the respect of his class mates and the officers whom he will be released to the streets to supervise. Too bad he doesn't have that kind of judgement. I wouldn't be surprised if he lacked better judgement in other areas.

I'm sure he'll find a spot at HQ. I heard he's really great at public relations, at least thats what he says. I can tell already.

ALDERIDIOTS BEHAVING BADLY

This Just In — Joe Moore Has A Meltdown at IVI-IPO Dinner- June 20, 2009

By LORRAINE SWANSON
Editor

A little birdie called us from Saturday night’s IVI-IPO fundraiser at the Metropolitan Club. Seems like Ald. Joe Moore (49th Ward) tried to crash a private pre-dinner cocktail reception for Gov. Pat Quinn. Moore arrived with his usual entourage 49th Ward Democratic Committeeman David Fagus and staffer Wayne Frazier.

IVI-IPO members were holding a general dinner for their supporters and guests. For an additional $200, guests were invited to get up close and personal with Gov. Quinn. Our spies tell us that Moore was furious when he was not admitted to the private reception with the governor and had a meltdown tantamount to the Goesselin sextuplets. (Where’s Kate Goesselin and her spanking machine when ya need her?)

Our spies tell us that Moore was furious when he was barred from admitting the private reception. Screaming “f— you” at the organizers (allegedly) and “This is pay to play.” Moore who had paid for a ticket to attend the dinner, stomped out of the Metropolitan Club. The 20 guests who had witnessed the hissy fit were furious. One of the organizers was in tears.

One guest snarkily commented, “Oh, now he worries about pay to play.”

Crossing the governor’s path, Moore reportedly screamed at him, “Your reception is upstairs.”

News of Joe’s meltdown spread like wildfire and was the talk of the dinner. Maybe Joe is cranky and tired from all those quarters he had to fork over in aldermanic menu money to the Chicago Park District for free overnight parking in Loyola Park.

Ald. Gene Schulter (47th Ward) also tried to sneak into the gov’s reception and was turned away. To Schulter’s credit, he was a big boy and stayed for the entire dinner.

Said one guest, “It was stupid because Gov. Quinn stayed for the whole night and shook hands and posed for pictures with everyone.”

Interesting idea. Close a training facility that is mandated by law to be available to train any and all recruits despite the agency. Suddenly, the ISP academy has unlimited space to train over one hundred recruits? What a complete idiot idea. Courts allow fired recruits to return. By the way asshat, how many recruits fired by the CPD have actually won their job back? Check your facts first you moron.

The Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board has what are called "Mobile Training Units" (MTUs) that are responsible for in-service training of police officers throughout the state. The money comes from traffic fines colleted by the courts throughout Illinois.

Many years ago, Chicago had its own MTU with a board of directors, etc. But then--who knows?--the Chicago MTU ended and not sure where CPD's cut of the pie went. Former fine ADS (GS) at the academy found a way to get the $$ used directly by the academy for in-service training by housing the $$ with a nearby MTU (first NEMRT then Tri-River). Rumors of misappropriation of these funds by another previous ADS and his procurement and facilities management person have been made but not substantiated....yet.

Actually it is a sizable chunk of change = upwards of 250k+

There is one person at the Academy that has had sole control over the spending of such funds = drumroll please . . .

The Admin. Manager, A. C-H!

There has been quite a bit of scurrying lately to try and "cover" some misappropriation of said funds. Seems she "lost" about 30k of these funds.

Actually it costs more to train a recruit.
The $1700 is an amount set by the state training board to reimburse the agency doing the training.
It does not cover all costs.

Each and every academy in the state gets exactly the same about to train a recruit.

As for sending recruits to another academy, the CPD would lose their accredation with the state and would not be able to conduct any training to include inservice like Tara, Ttu, Driving School classes, retruning service officers, range, canine, marine unit, promotional clases, etc. etc.

As for recruits staying fired, I do not know of any that successfully sued the CPD and got their jobs back. So, they do stay fired.

I never thought of that.

Along with the Pointless Black Metal Fence Company and the Sawing Useless Grooves Down Alleys Corporation, the Red Bumpy Company is making money hand over fist.

Those huge new "old-fashioned" black metal lamp posts are ugly because they're so far out of scale with what they were modeled on.

There is a difference between walking down a city street and feeling like you're walking around in an architect's rendering of a city street. This stuff is getting genuinely annoying.

There has never been any such thing as a "service economy" -- anywhere. Without manufacturing, this place is just an extremely expensive simulation of a working city. Hundreds of millions of dollars in debt and still spending like crazy.

I'm floored.

I didn't even realize that they knew where Chicago was anymore. Busy pop-pop-popping out at the private range, you know...

Not only did they move out on Chicago gun owners, but I similarly lost all respect for them many years ago, when I was trying to give them something major that they did not have, and they wouldn't even return my calls.

The usual "not invented here" thing -- the guy in charge of it didn't trouble himself to do it, and wasn't about to let anyone else embarass him by doing it either.

Who'd trust him enough to talk about anything? This Dept. just makes one dumb move after the next. What a waste of a salary for a job that will mean nothing at the end of the day. Way to go with the City's cash. How can we be broke if they are making up useless spots? I guess paying IAD folks to change our perceptions will really work and we'll fix out attitudes pronto. Yeah. That is what will happen.

The last thing you want to see is an Aldi's or a Payless Shoestore going in our neighborhood!

5:51 you hit the nail on the head. This guy lacks good judgment. Obviously doesn't look at the big picture. But then that would require leadership ability. Ahhh.

At least you can give the Illuminati a sandwich and they won't put up flags all over the walls with the mustard in the little plastic packet.

WTF are you talking about? Do you know who the Illuminati were (not ARE!)?

One guest snarkily commented "oh, now he worries about pay-to-play?" I don't find that snarky at all. Just a fact. Another alderman who can dish it out but can't take it. They are the card carrying board members of pay-to-play in Chicago. Thank you unknown guest, for voicing the feelings of twelve thousand-something Chicago police officers.

Here's why there are so many cops as instructors in an academy that is nearly shut down: Those who can, do (work the streets like the cops they are). Those who can't (clout) teach.

Actually Harold Washington said it when he was asked to define the word "hubris" when he used that term to describe the "bloc of 29"

Harold also called the entire City Council "a bunch of anti-deluvian (sic) Dodo-bird-heads."

The bad old days.

"the females went back to the streeet and the males are still hanging around."

Well that means the males have the TIME to stay there(as they should if they want) and the females never did, and if all of these females are going back out doesn't that mean there were alot there?

Interesting idea. Close a training facility that is mandated by law to be available to train any and all recruits despite the agency. Suddenly, the ISP academy has unlimited space to train over one hundred recruits? What a complete idiot idea. Courts allow fired recruits to return. By the way asshat, how many recruits fired by the CPD have actually won their job back? Check your facts first you moron.

6/21/2009 07:03:00 PM

Wow you make a really good argument so you can keep your inside job! I only wish that you can show me where in the ILCS. STATE OF IL CONSTITUTION, or any other STATE document that its mandated the CHICAGO POLICE DEPT . must have a training academy. The issue of recruits getting fired is simple in COOK COUNTY the judicial system is fixed, bring a civil lawsuit downstate for a termination for just cause in a at-will work state and you find yourself unemployed.

I do believe that the CHICAO POLICE ACADEMY is the worst institution in the nation for training new officers. The fact that political phone calls made on behave of a recruit who are unqualified to load a garbage truck, but allowed to make life and death decisions is appalling, but the norm in a city run on political corruption and nepotism.

Off-topic I just heard from a good source that "In and around 60655" blog is run by an aide to ginger rugai. What a bunch of BS. The Daley/Rugai Mt Greenwood Fan Club. You big bag of asswipes.

**************

That's the problem with a good source, they sometimes have really bad information. No, I'm not an aide to Ginger, if I was I would have gotten a raise at my job and I won't be sitting on the Metra every morning to work a 10 hour day. I guess by giving Ginger her due credit for once makes me her aide? Love ya!

"... Maybe Kass could pose that question to Mr. Daley or Mr. Ryan..."

6/21/2009 11:05:00 AM

Kass asks questions, Daley won't answer them.

Example, on the Mayors' nephew, Robert Venecko's, pension investments.

KASS: "So I asked: You're not going to answer questions about your nephew?

He clenched his teeth but bravely repressed his inner Mayor Chucky, though he probably wanted to unleash Chucky on me.

"I answered questions," Daley said. "The statement speaks for itself."

This idea originated from the Mayors' office when he was trying to shrink the budget for the Police Dept... I agree. The Mayor is an idiot ! ! !

Not only did they move out on Chicago gun owners, but I similarly lost all respect for them many years ago, when I was trying to give them something major that they did not have, and they wouldn't even return my calls.

No is doesn't mean the guys have more time than the girls, it means the guys su.k better! seriously, they do his bidding faster maybe, I don't know but it's true. I'm just saying it's not only the women, that's all. And yes, I agree about the spots should go to the ones who deserve it, i.e. ones with more years. We had a sgt on the desk that no one liked, so alot of the guys that bid on the desk left. So the bid spots were opened and who gets them but a cop with 2 years on, maybe not even and another with about 6, because anyone with time didn't want to deal with the sgt. So that was then, the sgt. is now gone and a couple of the guys with 25plus have decided they need a break now and can't get those spots. i don't think that is right. Those district bid spots should be opened up once in a while, it shouldn't be a spot for someone with 2 years on to stay for 30. Anyway just sayin it's not just the gals. Have a good one.

Yup. I think they've realized that they'll go the same way Chicago gun owners did.

Now, that Alan Gottlieb (convicted felon on tax evasion) and his Citizen's Committee for the Right To Keep And Bear Arms/Second Amendment Foundation (CCRKB/SAF) is the real stinker. Don't ever give him a penny. He regards it as a business; "I turn the faucet (with a fear mailing) and the money just flows," he said once.

Another parasite, just like the one who runs Cease Fire.
