Mope-rah Carries Water
Mope-rah goes to bat for judge Bertina Lampkin. But to make her case, she has to play fast and loose with actual facts.
Just last week, Lampkin was a hero when she sentenced a brazen gang member to 85 years in prison for the murder of Ricardo Martinez Jr., a former Marine and aspiring Chicago Police officer.
This week -- at least among police officers -- she's being cast as a villain
Last week Lampkin handed down an 85 year sentence. The actual date of the sentencing was 04 June.
At that point, Officer Valadez had been dead for three days, at least one suspect was in custody and it was being discovered that this suspect was on probation for gun charges. Not only that, he was in violation of that probation on numerous occasions. We are expected to believe that in Cook County, Lampkin wasn't called by someone and told there might be a shitstorm being blown up about this particular individual?
And in Mope-rah's comment section, this little gem:

- Judge Bertina Lampkin has a history of letting these thugs free. Check the case of Bennie Teague! He killed Curtis Gates in 2001 and Judge Lampkin was the judge over his trial. She let him go free, even with eyewitnesses that confirmed that Bennie was the murderer. Now he killed another man, Marcus Hendricks. Bennie is at 26th & California awaiting yet another murder trial. Maybe he will get Judge Bertina Lampkin again, she will set him free!
Seems if Lampkin had followed the letter of the law and sentenced this individual for the gun charge and the probation violations, we wouldn't be wearing mourning bands and flying flags at half staff.

You might know Bennie Teagues from such episodes as: firing a Romanian AK-47 at 022nd district Tac Officers after they attempted to curb him in regards to the Marcus Hendricks homicide last year! That wasn't the first time this silly little Vice Lord utilized a high power rifle, he was charged with first degree murder years back when he admitted to shooting a man in the head with an SKS rifle!!
This situation could easily have been avoided. In most states that allow concealed carry, using a gun during the commission of a crime gets the offender AUTOMATIC jail time; kind of like "third-strike" laws, it's taken out of the judges' hands. It's a pretty logical argument: Give me, the responsible gun owner, the opportunity to legally carry and defend me and my own, and since there is a legal method to carry, make illegal carry/UUW penalties much stiffer. So it's pretty much exactly the opposite of what exists in Chicago today.
If a judge doesn't follow his/her orders (i.e. conditions of probation etc.) then why should the thugs?
Stop answering their subpoenas', orders of protection etc. and see what happens.
OT: 2 Officers shot Milwaukee PD yesterday in broad daylight. If you get a chance, find the press conference from Chief Flynn where he calls the suspect an "assailant" and "ambused MY officers in broad daylight". A real Chief! Officers shot in the face, head, jaw, and shoulders. Serious but stable condition, both less than 2 years on the job, ambushed by an 18 year old thug on a bike! Please pray for their recovery and God Bless Chief Flynn!

Her credibility just keeps getting better, yeah after a bullshit ruling, the judge is going to do her job, for the moment, but if the judge is trying to figure out what it is she is suppose to do.

Here is something to think about and react to. Judge Bertina Lampkin is planning on running for the Appellate Court. Two judges are leaving and she is putting together a campaign to run for one of the openings. Just imagine her reviewing convictions at the appellate level.

She sure is, I have had cases before her and she launched my white offenders for much lenghthier sentences that were not as violent as the ones she set for other groups.

In most states that allow concealed carry, using a gun during the commission of a crime gets the offender AUTOMATIC jail time; kind of like "third-strike" laws, it's taken out of the judges' hands. It's a pretty logical argument: Give me, the responsible gun owner, the opportunity to legally carry and defend me and my own, and since there is a legal method to carry, make illegal carry/UUW penalties much stiffer. So it's pretty much exactly the opposite of what exists in Chicago today.

There is a certain female judge in 44-2 that has been throwing out alot of cases including search warrants,gun cases, and dope surveillance. How do you throw out a search warrant case? Basically your telling the judge who signed the warrant that he/she is a idiot. Or a gun case because she does not believe some savavge was standing on a known dope spot with a loaded weapon in his waistband, because come on, no one is that stupid, and all dope cases because all the dope that was recovered was not tested by the state. This all because some liberal incompetatnt retard judge can not understand the simple law, and she probally got to where she is by kissing balls all the way to the top.

Since this thread is discussing court dispositions, I have a little question for law enforcement AND the media. I work in the courts and since the beginning of the year we are watching the state reduce the DUI arrests to reckless driving, throw out statutory summary suspensions for DUI if the offenders will plead guilty to DUI or the case gets thrown out altogether. So, in other words, they don't lose their license or driving privileges. We have seen these same offenders, after getting a slap on their wrist, come back within three or four months with ANOTHER DUI and have THAT statutory summary suspension thrown out too. We overhear cops talking that they don't even want to bother writing DUI's because of this.
What is the purpose of the BAIID devices and DUI laws if these offenders are not losing their driving privileges? What the hell is with these judges?
Wrong on this one. Lampkin is better than just about every other judge over there.

Anita Alvarez is a joke. She was actually quoted DEFENDING Lampkin in the Sun Times the other day. As a side note, Alvarez and her chief of staff, Dan Kirk, have been busy firing, demoting or chasing off the few remaining quality ASAs at 26th Street. By the time she is done purging the SAO there will be no one left to try the low-lifes who murdered Officer Valadez.

Am cop and former ASA (back in the days when police and ASA were both on the same side)Spent much time in Lampkin's court - she was one of the better judges. Knew the law, treated police with respect and knew when shitbag was lyin on the stand. Havent been in her court in many years but can't believe she has changed that much. Hammering her is a mistake -there are plenty of sickenly liberal judges who don't belong on the bench but she is not one of them.

OT: This probably should be a separate SCC post but here goes.
Called brother-in-law in Milwaukee and Flynn is pretty much the real deal. They had three "politically correct" (one outsider, two in-house) chiefs in a row and things got really ugly. New mayor wanted a politically savvy chief that could get things done and they risked going outside. Not much risk because there was nowhere to go but up.
Flynn comes in and first thing he tells each district captain he or she is responsible for coming up with crime reduction plan in each district. He then has each capt. present the plan publicly and take the credit/blame.
Doesn't like bad apples but when one of the dept.'s best detectives got nailed for DUI in the burbs he didn't can him. Instead he had to plead to charge, take his lumps, do EAP and inside duty until his license was reinstated. Union was stunned that he gave the guy a break.
Flynn also let the troops redesign uniforms and cars and he goes out of his way to recognize minority citizens who help the police. When an officer shot a guy in self-defense, the next morning Flynn held a news conference and played the two 911 calls from black citizens who reported that the officer was being beaten and needed help.
Flynn also did a basic "fuck you" to the gangs and sometimes holds roll call himself in the middle of the street in the hoods.
Brother-in-law says he used to count days until retirement but now likes to come to work because the head honcho like cops, hates scumbags and even says it's OK to have a little fun. They do think they'll lose him but while Chicago is mentioned he doesn't think he'd take it unless there was complete support from mayor and council.
Damn we could use this guy here. Empowering the brass and then making them work--I'd even pay so see that!
