List of Bad Pension Investments
Mayor Daley's nephew Robert Vanecko and Vanecko's business partner Allison S. Davis have been making news lately.
Their real estate investment business, DV Urban Realty Partners, manages $68 million for five city pension funds -- representing Chicago police officers, teachers, CTA employees and other city workers.

And amazingly, they are still getting paid "management" fees and leasing a number of these properties to the City at questionable rates. All in a days work we suppose.

The 003 District is the poster boy for bad morale. What, if anything is the Command Staff going to do about it. Instead of bringing in Federal Agents, they better bring someone in from the Military to explain how important morale is. We are at war with crime spinning out of control. Wars are won and lost based on morale. Morale plays a big roll on the out come of events and work ethics. When more Officers are excessive drinking that's in a big part due to morale. When more Officers are going to jail for criminal behavior that's because of morale. In this study of morale do they understand how critical morale is to winning. We are losing the fight and greatly needed leadership, that can truly turn things around. We are truly headed for much darker times. I see no change in sight and know things are going to get a lot worse.

THIS IS OFF-TOPIC: how ever i think this military guy is on to something. i wonder if when morale goes down does firings and people leaving the job go up?
3030 N. Broadway, I almost fell off my chair when I saw that address. Everything makes perfect sense now. There was a Dominick's store at that location a couple of years ago. One day it burnt to the ground as if it was built out of cardboard. Shortly thereafter that pillar of the community, Tom Tunney the alderman tried to put a positive spin on the event on his web site.
I suspected it was an arson fire. Tunney's actions made me suspect even more. Now I read Daley's nephew Robert Vanecko has a financial interest in the property and that makes me certain it was arson.
And they got away with it didn't they.
We can only hope that Fitz puts these two in jail and maybe our moron mayor also . Wouldn't that be great !

Today's story on the Sun Times is just a bunch of spin by Daley.
And yet this cocksucker Daley is considered a "well respected mayor" by the olympic committee.

As one poster indicated before, where are the pension board members? They should be scrutinizing EVERY investment! I remember back in the 80's I approached Bob Stritch when he was the head of the CPOD pension fund. My company was offering guaranteed U.S. governemt bonds (through Ginnie Mae) as a solid pension fund investment. He questioned me as to who I knew, any of my relatives work for the city, etc., etc. I had no connections; all I had was a good investment where you could double your money every 10 years.
What really struck me was how clueless this moron was about different kinds of investments. Then I found out why he was head of the pension fund - he was the nephew of the deceased Cardinal Stritch! No other qualifications! And he was in charge of a billion dollar fund!
You need a board that knows what they are doing!
Oh come on SCC I just read in Fran Speilman's column, who never ever is used to plant a story by City Hall people, that Daley is very very upset by all the actions of his nephew. A "family source" said Daley didn't know anything about his nephews pension related activities. The article also says Daley has absolutely no control over the pension boards. Now there you have it Daley is mad at his nephew, didn't know about the pension deals, couldn't do anything about the pension deals even if he did. So this should be the end of the story, Daley, Daley family sources and Fran Speilman have all said its true, therefore it must be.

Robbins stated that the proposal was tabled until the Investment Advisor came back to a later meeting and told the whole board that it was a good investment. "Golf" is a tiny suburb between Morton Grove and Glenview and as far as I can recall, they have not been at war with any other community.
A few thoughts:
8 million divided between Davis and Vanecko for 7 or 8 years is about 1/2 million per year each or 4 million or so each for the whole term. I guarantee you they put in no more than a month's worth of paydays into spending your pension money. 4 million for a month's work doing this ain't bad money, even for connected guys.
And if anyone wants to defend any particular Pension board trustee, you may want to see their stance on the Inspector General's subpoenas. It seems that some former law enforcement members on your pension board may not like subpoenas! Imagine that.
I expect a whole bunch of "I don't recalls" coming out of this, and I'm gonna be shocked if anyone kept written records of how this money was steered towards a Daley relative.

I really feel for you guys.
I once worked for a small business that gave me a real square dance getting my profit-sharing money but it was nothing close to the screwing you all are getting in this pension scam.
Daley is quoted in this puff piece article as saying Vanecko could be in to many business sectors and he was unaware Vanecko was involved in this pension thing until the shit hit the fan.

Lets see the media report on how much that 68 million is of the total pension monies collected.
Let's see the media report on what investing experience of such sums of money Vanecko and Davis had before establishing DV Realty.
Let's see the media report on if the firm and D&V have the proper licensing and acrediting for "investing" -- Pension money.
Let's see the media report on how common it is for firms managing pension funds to receive $8 million for managing $68 million ( generally managers get 1% of the principal, annually, to manage jumbo sums like that).
Lets see the media report on the propriety of investing so much of the princple in Real Estate at such a late date in a bullish Real Estate market.
Lets see the media ask Fitzgerald, Lisa Madigan and/or Hoffman why there is no investigation of any politician or any politicians family member having ANY influence whatsoever how city pension money is invested.

3030 N. Broadway, I almost fell off my chair when I saw that address. Everything makes perfect sense now. There was a Dominick's store at that location a couple of years ago. One day it burnt to the ground as if it was built out of cardboard. Shortly thereafter that pillar of the community, Tom Tunney the alderman tried to put a positive spin on the event on his web site.
I suspected it was an arson fire. Tunney's actions made me suspect even more. Now I read Daley's nephew Robert Vanecko has a financial interest in the property and that makes me certain it was arson.
And they got away with it didn't they.

Even though the U.S. Attorney's office requested a sentence of 16 months imprisonment, yesterday U.S. District Judge John Darrah sentenced former Chicago Bear running back #35, Roland Harper, to 1 year house arrest, 2 years of probation, a fine and community work, after Harper pled guilty to a felony charge of fraud.
Harper was charged with fraud for presenting himself as the owner of a minority-owned firm, in order to obtain contracts set-aside for minority contractors doing business with the city of Chicago, when, in fact, the firm was not minority-owned.
Judge Darrah cited Harper's extensive charity work and his cooperation with the government as reasons for the lighter sentence, despite noting the need to deter others in a city [Chicago] "that is just fraught with corruption."
