The city/Caps is going to conduct a 8 week class for 14-18yrs olds. The class will teach them how to get along with each other.
The kicker: 50 of these "kid" are from disadvantaged homes and the other 50 "kids" are convicted felons.
You heard it right: CONVICTED FELONS.
We heard that staff cannot pat down those special juveniles and metal detectors are not permitted. They will be given meals by staff and participate in scenario training, self defense classes and survival tactics. The goal is to work closely with recruits to learn discipline and respect. This is such an exciting project and a honor to participate. A select few of the staff will have the privilege of participating in this program. This will be a great team building experience.
If true, this is another in a linage of awkwardly bad decisions being made by this department. We just got word that SWAP (the Sheriff's Work program for non-violent offenders) is cleaning up police parking lots. You know...those places we park our personal cars? The places where OCD parks their supposed undercover cars? Yeah, those places. Is that really a wise move?

I heard this from an academy staff member, the rumors are true. they are also going to pay these felons $9.00 an hour to attend this boot camp/mentor program. the staff requested metal detectors for their safety , but were denied, not in the budget they were told, but they will pay these police hating, convicted felons $9.00 an hour.
They would be better off taking those 14-18yo and creating a dope corner scenerio in the academy. They can teach the police recruits how to find the guy holding the pack and where the gun is hidden!

Some of our kids are getting summer jobs thru the city where they're being paid over $10 an hour . These are the same kids who missed over half their school days and are failing all their classes. We're also hearing that some programs are paying them half their money before they have even started their jobs , what are the odds that they'll work even one day once they have the cash.

How about this one....was invited to go to the LAPA dinner and attended (I am not of Hispanic descent). Commander Lopez was their man of the year. He was up there and gave his speech which I believe was just plain racist. He stated that in coming years the Hispanics will be the majority in the City of Chicago and that the Department needs to promote more Hispanics to command positions. That they are entitled to be promote and that the Irish should look out because they will be the new Irish.
I would like to know, where every minority gets this sense of entitlement. Soon Hispanics may be the next majority, but at least us whities have populated the City legally. You know Mayor Daley won't always be Mayor and we may actually be able to enforce the LAW that is broken by thousands of Illegals (predominately Hispanic). I may be a small percentage Irish, but I am an American and I thought that everything in this country was to be based on equality. It is bad enough that our command staff are riddled with racial promotions, because a lot of the people aren't the most qualified. It should be no box to check, no name just your employee number and take the test. So then no one can claim racism by guessing color by name. If only white people pass so be it, they may have been the most qualified, if all blacks pass so be it. I am tired of racial entitlement. So Lopez you can go sit and spin. This is another baby sitting service that CAPS has turned into. Like Soccer and Softball, the kids are dropped off, (actually some are chauffered to the location by CPD, imagine that liability)for the games and then the parents or guardians or whoever they are, get a free 4hrs or more. They don't stick around to watch their precious children like we all had to do when our kids played T-ball etc. Nope free baby sitting,pure and simple.

Trooper Joshua Miller was shot and killed while attempting to apprehend a kidnapping suspect.
At 7:45 pm members of the Nazareth Police Department responded to a report of a protection-from-abuse order violation involving a weapon. As they arrived, the suspect took a 9-year-old boy from his mother at gunpoint and fled the location in a vehicle, leading to a 40 mile vehicle pursuit.
The suspect's vehicle was stopped in Coolbaugh Township (Monroe County) when members of the Pennsylvania State Police utilized the PIT maneuver, causing the vehicle to crash. Following the crash, the suspect opened fire on officers, killing Trooper Miller and wounding another trooper. The suspect was also killed the the exchange of gunfire.
Trooper Miller was assigned to the Swiftwater State Police Barracks.

Proud civilian supporter of our men in blue here, just had a quick question. I was coming home from work late Saturday night/early Sunday morning (I'm a doorman for a bar on weekends) around maybe 3:45 A.M. and noticed a huge commotion between Belmont/Central Park/Belmont and maybe Monticello with multiple squad cars on the scene, people in the streets, that area of Belmont was blocked off so I had to go up Central Park and circle around to get to my home on the 3100 block of Hamlin so I didn't get to see what had occurred. Was wondering what all the commotion was about? Did some of the local punks on Belmont do us all a favor and off each other? They loiter pm that stretch between Belmont/Kimball and Belmont/Milwaukee all day throwing gang signs at one another and getting into altercations. Hopefully they do us all a favor and kill off one another.

Does this surprise anyone? We have an alderman/soon to be felon as the chairman of the Police board. We have a guy that has never been the police running this department. And we have the nephew of the mayor stealing from our pension fund. And guess what? Its all legal. Gotta love chicago.

The academy is already full of little ghetto thugs. They're part of that CPD/CFD teen program. They act proper and behave when the staff is around, but when unsupervised, the academy looks like Marshall HS.
Two specific incidents that I personally witnessed while using the academy locker room -
1. While changing my clothes, a bunch of these thugs were congregating in the "No recruits/Visiting P.O. only" section of lockers. One of them pointed to the gun on my belt and said "Dayum! What kind of gun that is"? as his buddies watched me place it into the locker. Needless to say, I skipped out on my workout that day.
2. Another night while changing my clothes in the locker room, one of these community angels was in the adjacent row of lockers WITH A FEMALE!!!! I don't know if they were making out or just passing through but the fact is a teenage female was in the men's locker room of the police academy.
I actually reported the last incident to the front desk staff who pretty much just shrugged her shoulders.

Of course it is our dime. Every summer we pay for thousands of these kids to go to great America. That includes buses, food, and supervisors. That is just one example. And we wonder why this city is broke.

How much federal money is daley getting for sub-selling our academy to the "fed. felons fighting fit" prgrm?
Why hate? We must reach out to help those that are at risk. The young offenders who lack guidance and role models. Maybe CAPS and the policy group have the right idea? Sgt. Hamilton would never steer us wrong. Will three days a week with known felons really burden the academy staff? Imagine the unarmed recruits working along side felons in the classroom, gym and in the community. If we could rehabilitate three or four out of 100 at risk felons, this would be worth it. The 12th district could patrol the halls during the day. This is an exciting time for the department.
The department, or whoever, just used a bigger glove to slap the police officer's in the face.
The police are not suppposed to associate with convicted felons!
If this program has to happen, why not use a public high school over the summer?
The same dumbasses that think of these programs are not going to be the same one's who have to babysit the little thugs. It's thier idea, let them start it out and see how the little felons really act.

I heard this from an academy staff member, the rumors are true. they are also going to pay these felons $9.00 an hour to attend this boot camp/mentor program. the staff requested metal detectors for their safety , but were denied, not in the budget they were told, but they will pay these police hating, convicted felons $9.00 an hour.

OT - Did you see this in the Tribune this afternoon? I call BS regarding the reduction in crime especially homicides. When was the last time numbers were released regarding how many dead bodies Chalkie has visited over the last year? Jesus the number over the last few weekends should send the rates skyrocketing.
As a citizen, I thank all of you for your hardwork and dedication. Please be safe. I know this is just a numbers game to make Mayor Shortshanks look better in the eyes of the Olympic Committee and another reason to explain why he has enough police officers even though you are ridiculously short-staffed.

Chicago Police announced an 11 percent decrease in homicides and an eight percent drop in total crimes compared to this time last year.
The preliminary statics released today are from May 2008 to May 2009. During the same time, crime dropped in 22 of the 25 police districts.
Police officials credit the decline to the work by officers on the street, implementation of new crime reduction strategies, and community involvement.
Fuck that! First of all, these motherfuckers have no business coming into the Academy. Second, pat these motherfuckers down! Hell, search them - who's gonna get the CR when someone finds a bag of weed or a rock near someone's locker or even in someone's locker. They're in our house and they have to play by our rules. I don't know the extent of the training they're receiving, but it's dangerous to even arm them with any type of defense or tactical training that can be used against us. WTF! Whoever came up with this BS, if its true, needs to wake the FUCK up!

100% true. The Mayor took a portion of the Stimulus Money to create this program. If they get $9.00/Hour you can bet he's taking another $3.00/Hour for "administrative costs."

I heard from friends who work at academy that there are 50 recruits in the building. How can they possibly have recruits and felons in the same building? Maybe a mixture of armed felons and unarmed recruits? Could they assign TRU to patrol the academy during classes. Is CAPS that desperate to justify their section with a new project? No, they would tread on the Teacher's Union (a real union) and they would have to go through metal detectors, and God forbid they should confront a rival gangbanger in the hall. But, that would like going to high school which if they were anything above a room temperature IQ, like who ever thought of this they would have finished on their own.

Nearly 300 Chicago crossing guards, detention aides and traffic control aides could face layoffs next month as their jobs are replaced by city police officers, a union representing those workers said today.
So... we are already low in districts, lucky enough to man just the beat cars, now we are gonna lose the detention aides etc... Wow!!!
This isn't the first time Lopez has tipped a few before he spoke. His tirade at the Christmas / Retirement party last year was embarrassing to the families there.
He is still smarting over the dump and is now championing the Hispanic cause. He rallied the usual reverands and Aldermen and got a few of his pets promoted, disregarding the scandal that awaits at least one.
When will we become color blind in our promotions. That's all any legit Officer wants.

Give the program a chance to work. Trust the CPD leadership to watch our backs. Management would never develop a program without careful planning. The ADS and Commander have made plans so give it a chance to work. They cannot use a high school because of the danger to teachers. Let police teach those at risk youths. The CAFETA instructors are the best. We can risk a few thefts and batteries.

When one of these children shoot someone this summer and they are out after curfew and the victim goes to Loevy and Flint Taylor and they sue the City will the City immediately settle the lawsuit.
Afterall they are CPD employees and that makes the City liable.
Ummmm...where do I turn in my Badge and gun...this isn't fun anymore. I can't smack the fuck out of some Banger, am on trial when I get a confession, am broke because I have to live here, the public hates me, been shot on this job, I hate ASA's, and they hate me too. I don't respect the bosses, guess that might be the same from them to me. I don't like felons, think they hate me too. I quit...I don't like it here anymore. I also hate the politicians, the SUMMER blend high gas prices, the aldercreatures, the mayor, where the fuck has my life gone????? Coppers getting killed...all this pain is quite overwhelming....

Hey brother or sister if you are really the police. don't take this to heart you sound upset and maybe the hate you a feeling is not all there or what you think. I too dislike what I have seen and have been put in my time on this job. To me it means we need to sick together more and fight back that much harder.
