The morale of the department has been in question for awhile. It is the believe of this writer that one event can unite everyone to one common cause. A good example was 9/11. It united the country and focused on a common goal of "American Pride". Now comes a sad event, an officer killed in the "Line of Duty". The highest honor one can give, and there is a southside Capt denying his personnel the right to pay their respects. He might have his reasons, one of a personal nature I would assume, but how callous can one be. When his personnel asked to go, he denied them stating,"if it was that important to you you should have went on your own time". HUH? Again events can keep us together or pull us apart, and create seperation between us. Here is a tragic event that has brought all officers of all ranks together to show our solidarity for our "Fallen Hero" and someone decides that now is the time to put their foot down and flex his muscle. There is a time and place for everything, but WTF are you thinking about? If your unhappy, find the door. You have made your stand. Lets hope nothing happens to you because payback is a bitch, dude.

Apparently MASTERS and the Policy Group have failed in any attempt to try and solve the dilemma that IS the 003rd District. How embarrassing must this be for the Stammering Prick over at City Hall and the rest of the Daley Crime Family ? ? ?
There's no such thing as a Northside or Southside district anymore. They're all Northside districts. If they can't find the bodies locally, they'll go crosstown to fill in. Yet another indication of how poorly staffed we are.

Apparently the 003rd District Commander will be instrumental in securing the 2016 Olympics for Chicago. Why else would the city allow this abortion of leadership to occur?
As I understand it, the Commander cleared out all the detailed P.Os from the books. That's where you get the 30 openings last period. They are the same openings this period. That sounds like a 'good Commander' type thing to do. Maybe all the Commanders should do that . It might help expose the manpower shortage the City has been lying about.
There are alot of P.O.s that live in or near 003. How about coming home and protecting the homefront? Oh right, it's easier in the slower Districts. Come to 003 and look like a superstar. Maybe the new guys should think about that. Lots of work and bunch of young cops runnin and gunnin - it was the best job in the world when I came on.
007 is not a bad place to work. The only reason there are 15 openings is that everyone from MSF, TRU, and a multitude of other units have been pulling from here. Take a look at the past 6 months of transfer orders and you will see I am speaking the truth.
The reason they pull from 007 is you get to learn a lot,.... fast.
As far as morale, 007 is one of the better places to work because we ALL stick together. You don't see that in a lot of other Districts.
I have a question. Why are there openings in 011 two periods in a row????? I can remember not long ago you wouldn't see an opening in 011 all year. When I was in the academy in the 90's you needed a phone call to go to 011 as a ppo. I have heard that things are not as good as they used to be there but you never see openings. I would like to hear from some of the west sides best on this subject.
To those officers in 005 who were not allowed to go to the wake or funeral. Hand the ball less WC a yellow slip. Let the jerkoff deny time due and file a grievance. Then call the ball less WC a jagoff and take your writeup for insubordination. The writeup will go nowhere in these circumstances. In the 90's a WC didn't get along with his watch and tried a stunt similar to this about going to a wake. Two guys on a car told the boss they were going and not handing him slip. The WC said they weren't going anywhere. The older guy on the car told the WC to fuck off in front of roll call. They left and went to the wake. The WC wrote them up. The guys didn't take anything. The Commander handled it properly and the WC got moved to a unit and later became an inspector I believe.

I heard there was a sudden Federal government review of federal money targeted to the 3rd District (U of Chicago area) reguarding police protection/programs.
The review revealed a very high number of PO's who were assigned to the 3rd District, but of course didn't actually work there.
The sudden massive vacancies in 003 were the result of getting the sheets in order to avoid losing Federal money.
Of course, if the CPD can't get anyone to work in 003, they may lose this money anyway. Good thing they have a skilled commander to bring in the best and the brightest.
I will be bidding out of 005, I dont care if I end up in 003. The 005 dist. third watch used to be great, had a great watch commander that will take care of her officers. Now there is Capt. Jones that doesn't have a clue of what he is doing. Yesterday was the worse thing this jag off could have done, he denied everybody in the watch to attend the wake of the fallen Officer, he stated " If he was that important to you, you should have gone on your own time" this guy is worse than cap. White. He is the biggest Jag off there is, soon everybody will be bidding out of the third watch.

Jones is a serious bipolar freak. At times, he will make appearances that he will support you, then he will undercut you for the silly most mundane reason. You could have five murders on his watch and he would spend the entire night screaming about a BS report concerning an assault.

Capt Jones was the Tact Lt in 011 and was a total stroke. He would walk past five tact guys standing in the hall and would not say Hi. That tells you what a goof he is. All he had to do there was stay out of the way and the guys would have made him look like a superstar. He ran some good guys off the teams. He has zero people skills and just doesn't get it. I feel sorry for the guys in 005. He will step over anyone to get promoted.

I phoned Capt. James Jones at 005. He stated that he did NOT deny third watch officers the opportunity to attend the wake of our fallen hero, Alex Valadez.
In my experience, as long as a district/area is covered, officers are allowed to take turns briefly paying their respects, even if the slain officer's wake is on the other side of the city.
If this is Capt Jim Jones in 005 then prepare for a lot worse. In Area 4, clueless, zero personality, no business being a Sgt. Got promoted to Lt, 011, CAPS, 2nd Watch and then Tact Lt. Took the #1 tac and gang team in the city (number wise) and flushed it down the toilet with his utter lack of ability to lead, manage or even talk to people. Worst boss I have seen in a long time. Whoever keeps merit bumping this guy needs to get his head out of his ass. Jones has no clue, never has never will, he has no business being the police much less a "leader" of police. Not sure about the other districts, but 007 is just fine. We had a P.O ask to come to 7 from 18 last period. And one of the new Lieutenants requested 7 also. We are doing just fine.
What I was trying to say before I got so emotionally involved was all captains, exempts and merits (with a few MINOR exceptions)are patronage hacks of daley and his 45 thieves. They are not us, they are them! Snethen only got promoted because they were all sick of spending their weekends at round tables. You showed 'em Dave.
Who are the good Captains? Many of us who want to bid out want to know where the good Captains are.

003 has 2 good captains in Capt Johnson on 3rd watch and Gunnell on 2nd watch. 003 actually has a lot of good bosses, except the commander.
Capt. Jones assigned a single car to the wake, a real dog of a worker too, and said that was good enough. The rest of us who wanted to pay respects weren't allowed. He even told early roll call that he didn't want to risk getting into a rap.
Makes me glad Im 25 year road kill. Really, just a 53yo rotting carcass on the side of the CPD highway.
No pride, no shame, not much to say, and probably in a few years, zero motivation, no blood pressure. But still, Im about as free as anyone can be on this job.
Frees at last, frees at last. I feels the joy oh Lord.
As for the 011 District goes.......
1. The 3rd watch battle between 1120 and 1130 continues. Problem is they with BOTH stay in 011 until they retire. Not a safe or pleasant environment with these two Sgt.'s at each other throats.
2. We are down in MANPOWER but the captain wants more numbers. So lets get equal or more numbers with LESS MANPOWER...that way the bosses downtown can say "we don't need more officer's, our guys are doing fine, just look at the numbers!"
3. You lock someone up for a felony and the judge in 44-2 finds NO PROBABLE CAUSE! At first it was anything under a gram thrown out (no if's and's or but's)but now she throws out ANY case that is a rock solid good case! But...she will let some cases go to 26th street, but those cases are the fucked up ones that will probably get tossed out there!!
3. In reference to #2.....so we are supposed to keep locking up people, have the libtard judge find NO PROBABLE CAUSE in 44, then wait for all the lawsuits coming because shithead claims you violated his civil rights because according to judge you HAD NO PROBABLE CAUSE TO STOP HIM!
I work on tact team so I will continue getting my "quality of life arrests".....the t/d is good, and if you want court its there. Officer's still back up each other. So the problem is that its a RISK if you want to be running and gunning for felony dope, guns, ect. You lock up shitbag and risk your life, just know the judge is going to throw it out,and YOU have to go to court, NOT the bosses and when you start getting sued it's on YOU...and if your defense is "our bosses wanted #'s" then have fun in jail.
As I understand it, the Commander cleared out all the detailed P.Os from the books.

If this is true then if I go onto the Department Intranet I should be able to call up the personnel listings for 003. That should indicate who is assigned to 003 and who is detailed out. That IS of course if the numbers reflect the truth, unlike in a certain North-side District where the Watch Secretary position was eliminated on the A&A's but it's business as usual.
Come to 003 and look like a superstar. Maybe the new guys should think about that. Lots of work and bunch of young cops runnin and gunnin

If there is any running and gunning done anymore, it's certainly NOT in 003. With the Burger Queen in power who in their right mind would put themselves in a trick bag, only to be thrown under the bus when the heat gets turned up on the commander.
As it has been stated before, every district is defined by their bosses. Have a good set of bosses and the troops will go to the extreme for them. Have a bad set of bosses, say a W/C who denies his troops to go to a funeral of a fallen comrade with the comment, "If it were that important, you would have gone on your own time", then you will have people just showing up for work, at best just answering their radio assignments and coding everything a 19P.
The 2nd watch Lt on days in 005 is a tool also. Another useless asshat who should let the police police.
I will never be a watch Commander, but if I was, the last people I'd mess with are those coming through my door to get an arrest report approved. I don't want to hear about any knew bulletins or "hey...throw this is in there". Just approve PC and shut your mouth so I can go back out and look for another bad guy. This goes for you too M Moore.
The Commander handled it properly and the WC got moved to a unit and later became an inspector I believe.

Capt Jones was the Tact Lt in 011 and was a total stroke. He would walk past five tact guys standing in the hall and would not say Hi. That tells you what a goof he is. All he had to do there was stay out of the way and the guys would have made him look like a superstar. He ran some good guys off the teams. He has zero people skills and just doesn't get it. I feel sorry for the guys in 005. He will step over anyone to get promoted.
Sounds like Jones and the WEISel had similar role models in their law enforcement careers!

And how exactly is that hurting him? It will fall back on the Sergeants then your dumb as will be disciplined. Then the same criminals will end up in our neighborhoods. That is just stupid! ALL police, listen up, a slow down does not help us to fuck over JFed, the Mayor, the Commander nor the Captain, it fucks us over because those same savages are now in our neighborhoods because of us doing shit like this!

The midnite guy in 024 is a prince and a half. Old school, no petty BS and verrry stand-up.
When you get numbers like these it is time for Duggan and Masters and Jody to wake up and smell the crisis. If you have to, promote this bitch to an office in the Ivory Tower with no windows and a secretary whose job it is to see that she does not leave the building, has plenty of decaf coffee and coloring books.
Maybe her job should be to buffer herself between the reverends and the real police. Just smile and nod at the nice people, and do not talk to or make any decisions about any officer.
Get someone in there who can turn that sinking ship around. Someone with some balls, not 25 P.P.O.s who will be ruined for life by being linked the burnouts that are left. All they are going to do is learn bad habits, waste a year or more and bailout to go somewhere, anywhere and do nothing because that is what they will have been taught.

I phoned Capt. James Jones at 005. He stated that he did NOT deny third watch officers the opportunity to attend the wake of our fallen hero, Alex Valadez.
In my experience, as long as a district/area is covered, officers are allowed to take turns briefly paying their respects, even if the slain officer's wake is on the other side of the city.

The 003 District is the poster boy for bad morale. What, if anything is the Command Staff going to do about it. Instead of bringing in Federal Agents, they better bring someone in from the Military to explain how important morale is. We are at war with crime spinning out of control. Wars are won and lost based on morale. Morale plays a big roll on the out come of events and work ethics. When more Officers are excessive drinking that's in a big part due to morale. When more Officers are going to jail for criminal behavior that's because of morale. In this study of morale do they understand how critical morale is to winning. We are losing the fight and greatly needed leadership, that can truly turn things around. We are truly headed for much darker times. I see no change in sight and know things are going to get a lot worse.
God as all soldiers do I pray for peace and for a greatly needed help.
We are losing, but I will never give up or never surrender.
