The Revolt Begins Quietly

  • The growing ire over Chicago's parking meters took on yet another dimension Thursday when roughly 50 coin-fed meters were vandalized in the two North Side neighborhoods of Uptown and Ravenswood.

The damage included globs of goo smeared on the parking meters or left to dry in the coin slots. The vandals also wrote the words "SLAVE" and "KILL COPS" on a few of the meters' display windows in black marker. Many display windows were completed covered by silver spray paint.

The goo obstructing the coin slots was likely an adhesive thought to be glue or putty, Chicago police said.

The putty is removable, and the meter usable if a motorist has "something to scrape it with," Chicago police spokesman Robert Perez said.
The media has done such a fine job of painting cops as bad guys that the "meter revolt" thinks we actually control the meters, set the fines and write tickets. While we're sure they are out there, most cops don't really give a shit about the meters. There's too much other stuff to write.

In any case, irate citizens are using wadded up gum, putty, expandable sprays, etc., to jam up the meters. It's obvious to anyone paying attention that a line has been crossed in many eyes. Maybe it's the blatant selling of city assets, the incompetency that accompanies fixed contracts, the insiders profiting once again in the middle of a recession, who knows?

But we'll opine that there aren't many cops looking too hard for the perps.

***********************************

Somebody, and rather quickly, needs to figure out, and publicly disseminate, a substance(s) that CAN'T be easily scraped from a meter by anyone dumb enough to even entertain the very thought.

If these vandals keep this pace up, the Daley Crime Enterprise will be selling "Parking Meter Goo Scrapers" at $100 a pop, delivered annually with your City sticker.

I hope this crew of malcontents has conserved some of their energy and rationed some of their vandalism supplies to launch the next strike against the red light cameras.

If I were a devious lad, I'd suggest Liquid Nails as a means to an end in this matter; the expandable "Great Stuff" foam is too easily removed.

On a lighter note, I heard the 5th floor has already "tapped" the Keesing Bandit - recovering precious information from him regarding the removal of "globs of goo smeared in slots".

Like the new commercial on "free" tv endlessly repeats...'It's on"

The mayor is finally reaping what he's sown in the city. His greed and back room antics for more money and continued corruption are whiplashing on him.

Citizens have no respect for the police because they emmulate the little pimpy mayor.

Government officials beat paying taxes, Springfield is out of control, but most importantly Chicago is outrageous and blatant about flaunting total disregard for the taxpaying citizens.

Daley is selling the city away, his hands are in everyones pockets, he's cut services, has created a sanctuary for illegal aliens on the backs of the taxpayer once again, ... when will it end?

Well, looks like the vigilante reaction is just what the mayor has ordered.

Every meter I see destroyed I think , it's a fair reaction.

He's lucky it's not worse. But wait. My money is on the bad guys escalation due to the fact that daley has ruined the CPD as well.

There won't be an honest response to crimes by a department who've been disrespected by a corrupt mayor and his ilk, Burke, Volpe, pud, et al.

Since the city won't take criminal damage reports on cars hit by eggs during halloween, does this mean obscuring a camera lens with an egg (thus forcing someone to come out and clean it) won't be a criminal act?

OT but not really: Rick Telander wrote a really good article in the Sun-Times today (June 5) on why Chicago should NOT get the 2016 Olympics.

His description of Chicago as run by the Daley Crime Family is fantastic prose and right on target:

"The City of Chicago, led by Mayor Daley and a vast and tumorous army of aldermen and bagmen and yesmen and opportunists and spineless, parasitic political-machine halfwits of forms never seen outside the roiling cesspool of governmental slop-trough greed, has proven itself unworthy of something as potentially delicious and fulfilling as the 2016 Olympic Games."
---

I just love that sentence, it is so perfect in it's description of Chicago as run by Daley, the Capo di tutti capi.

Heard that the red light cameras are bringing in $47 million per year for the Daley Crime Family.

6/05/2009 12:11:00 PM

How long before someone starts taking out the red light cameras? A .22cal rifle ought to do it. Just saying.

___________________________

How about starting a rumor that the Red Light Camera poles are coated with silver or there's $1000.00 worth of gold in the electronics of the camera. Then the metal hawks will steal them just like they did every aluminum guard rail on the Chicago Skyway. Bet the city couldn't install them faster than they could steal them.

Just saying.

use a simple clear, quick setiing epoxy. It will be harder for anyone to see until they're right on it. This give's the quick-set time to seal. Throw a tube in a tube gun and you should be able to get at least 50 meters per tube. Cost-Epoxy $4 Manual Gun-$12 Mayors Reaction- Priceless!

Let MASTERS watch the meters for his master mayor mumbles. A little civil disobediance is called for when the mator is looting the city.

I would imagine that the acid would eat though the baster...

The baster has to be glass. Acid will eat through plastic. Remember use glass, and don't let it touch the rubber top.

Not quite sure if this person (male) was a meter maid or PO, but came through my neighborhood, on a bicycle ticketing every car in sight for any little thing early this morning. Yesterday it was a meter maid on foot, east of my residence writing away. Vehicles with tickets everywhere.

They are doing the same in 23rd ward Garfield Ridge nothing like "attacking" the working people, next time on duty stop and ask for id then at least a contact card, put the name and address out so we know,to return the favor in their neighborhood. I just saying it is only fair!!

I just want to know one thing! Why do the police enforce the parking meter's owned by a private company. Next you guys will be collecting from dead beat dads for child care payments. Dont the police have better things to do? Like look for seatbelt violators?

6/05/2009 02:05:00 AM

We don't. Meter maids do.

I have to go downtown next week. I have never done anything illegal in my life. But next week I am going to bring some of that epoxy shit in a tube and pretend I'm putting money in the meter but I'm really going to clog up the hole.

Uh huh. I'm gonna do it and nobody's going to stop me!

I might even do two.

First, it was spray paint banned from Chicago retailers. The word is that our City aldercreatures are now looking into an outlaw on Gorilla Glue sales. Guess I'll be stocking up on a few bottles.

6/05/2009 08:29:00 PM

Anything but ban corruption and aldermanic greed. Can you imagine how many aldermen would be exposed if the IG could investigate them? Ohhhboy, I would love to see that! Remember the previous IG, Alexander Vroustouris?

Alexander Vroustouris was in office for years and couldn't find much corruption in the middle of this "public corruption crime wave."

Vroustouris was the kind of IG Daley likes, never found anything worthwhile, only picked the low hanging fruit and never made the boss look bad. Not finding corruption in Chicago is like not finding a slot machine in Las Vegas.

How long till Daley finds a way to dump Hoffman? That guy has the kind of guts and integrity needed in this cesspool of corruption. He needs more investigators and a free reign to find real corruption.

This might be the beginning of the end of the Daley Crime Family. We can only hope.

GEEZ, I hope you are not on the sergeants' list. If I got this job as the papercar and you showed up and told me to do a non-criminal report I would have to tell you how full of sh-- you really are and tell you to back to your crossword puzzle. If you truly think an act of dissent is NOT criminal you need to get back in the academy for a refresher course. Or maybe you can go work for the revenue department. YOU would fit right in!

He was joking you douche

The red light cameras run continuously, i.e. they're "filming" constantly.....
Since the city won't take criminal damage reports on cars hit by eggs during halloween, does this mean obscuring a camera lens with an egg (thus forcing someone to come out and clean it) won't be a criminal act?

6/05/2009 11:48:00 AM
I fail to see how an egg, made of organic matter, damages property. I wouldn't waste an egg on red light cameras. But dog shit, now that is surely worthwhile.

Wouldn't flaming dog shit be even better?
