Info from our brothers and sisters in blue:
  • Please accept our most heartfelt condolences for the loss of Police Officer Valadez from your brothers & sisters of the Oak Lawn Police Department.

Once again we will provide assistance at Blake & Lamb for this sad occasion. We ask that only those Officers on duty park along the curb of east bound & west bound 103rd in the designated areas (the curb lanes will be blocked off from Kilpatrick to Kenton). All other Officers can park in the bowling alley lot or the bank lot at 103rd & Cicero. We expect a large turn out & will be directing traffic. We will do our best to get everyone in & out as easily and quickly as possible.

For those Officer's assigned to the CPD detail & any other Officers that may need it we will have plenty of cold water on hand, feel free to stop by the Incident Command vehicle for the water. Please do not hesitate to ask for assistance from any OLPD Officer.

Thank you for your cooperation, our thoughts & prayers are with our CPD brethren and the friends and family of Officer Valadez.

    Respectfully,

The Men & Women of the Oak Lawn Police Department
Thank you OLPD.

Does the family even want Weis and Daley to show up and speak at any of the services? I'm willing to show up and preventing any pandering to the cameras by these two strokes. I am more than untouchable by either of these morons, but wish to know what the family wants. Would Daley pop a vessel if he were told to sit down and shut up until there is a fair contract ratified? Or being asked if any members of the International Olympic Commitee were in attendance? Paramount in all this is the wishes and feelings for the family, and his extended family in blue. Guidance requested.

I was eighteen years old when I went down to Dublin
With a fistfull of money and a cartload of dreams.
"Take your time," said my father, "stop rushing like Hell,
And remember all's not what it seems to be.

For there's fellas who'd cut you for the coat on your back,
Or that watch that you got from your mother.
So take care, my young bucko, and mind yourself well.
And would you give this wee note to my brother."

At the time, Uncle Benjy was a policeman in Brooklyn,
And my father, the youngest, looked after the farm.
Til a phone call from America said "Send the lad over."
And my old fella said, "Sure, t'wouldn't do any harm.

For I've spent my life working this dirty old ground
For a few pints of porter and the smell of a pound.
And sure, maybe there's something you'll learn or you'll see,
And you can bring it back home, make it easier on me."

So, I landed at Kennedy, and a big yellow taxi
Carried me and my bags through the streets and the rain.
Well, my poor heart was thumping around with excitement,
And I hardly even heard what the driver was saying.

We came in the Shore Parkway through the flatlands in Brooklyn,
To my uncle's apartment on East 53rd.
I was feeling so happy, I was humming a song,
And I sang "You're as free as a bird."

Well, to shorten the story, what I found out that day
Was that Benjy got shot down in an uptown foray.
And while I was flying my way to New York,
Poor Benjy was lying in a cold city morgue.

Well, I called up my old fella, told him the news.
I could tell he could hardly stand up in his shoes.
And he wept as he told me go ahead with the plan,
And not to forget, be a proud Irish man.

So, I went up to Nellie's beside Fordham Road,
And I started to learn about lifting my load.
But the heaviest thing that I carried that year
Was the bittersweet thoughts of my hometown so dear.

I went home that December cause my old fella died.
I had to borrow the money from a fella on the side.
And all the bright flowers and brass couldn't hide
The poor, wasted face of my father.

I sold off the old farm yard for what it was worth,
And into my bag stuck a handful of earth.
Then I boarded a train and I caught me a plane,
And I found myself back in the U.S. again.

It's been twenty-two years since I set foot in Dublin.
My kids know to use the correct knife and fork.
But I'll never forget the green grass and the rivers,
As I keep law and order in the streets of New York.

Attend the funeral and wear the proper uniform; IE. blouse and wool pants.

Judge Davey from the Bridgeview courthouse is responsible for letting one of these murderers free on probation after commiting a take over robbery at gun point. Davey is well known for this type of B.S. in fact, an A.S.A. that worked in his courtroom stated that in 18 months he gave probation to 16 seperate offenders convicted of homicide. So the second chance he gave one of the offenders, resulted in the murder of a Chicago Police Officer.

Thanks Judge Davey, you killed the Police Officer.

What else do we know about Davey?
Anyone?

Regarding whether civilians should go to wakes, I say definitely, it shows respect, and support for the officer's family,

If I may digress, a personal flashback,

Many years ago, I was on vacation up in Michigan with family...

Sunday night card game was a good one...

About 5 a.m. I got a call that a co-worker died, great guy, natural causes, put me in a mellow mood was not able to sleep anymore...

About 7:30 alarm clock radio discussed traffic in Kalamazoo, which was about an hour away, it warned that traffic would be affected around 11 because of the funeral of a Van Buren County Sheriff who was killed responding to a call in a car accident...

I called the Sheriffs office to ask if there was a wake before the funeral, which the nice deputy said there was, and as I was talking to her nit dawned on me I could not go, all I had with me for the trip was shorts (I'm a casual guy), she said bullshit, the important thing is that you go, not what you wear...

So dammit, I went, hoping to sneak in, sign the book, and get the hell out of dodge...

I put Chgo Pol. Dept. next to my name, and then snuck into line trying to be unobtrusive...

After I passed the body, a Chaplain met me and thanked me for coming, introducing me to 2-3 other sheriffs, all were appreciative...

Next thing I know they harrangued me into staying for the funeral, I sat in back, did not go up for communion...

Next day I read in the Kalamazoo paper that police came from as far as Detroit and CHicago for the funeral...

Made me glad I stayed...

Its great for anyone to attend and pay respects...

Retired

P.S. F#*K the two jagoffs, I wish the media would not publish their names or pictures, I do not care about their histories, other then criminal, there should be an embargo on their personal shit, they are not heroes, the officer was, lets hear his story...

I work in 022 and sat down with the Oak Lawn PD Lt. who is setting up the detail that they will be providing at Blake Lamb. They won't tell you, but I will-the Oak Lawn Officers assigned on Friday are doing it on their own time. They are volunteers, and the LT said they had plenty of officers offer to help. They will be there from 1300-closing. Please take a second to thank them, not that they are looking for it.

Brotherhood at it's finest.

We will have cold drinks and some snacks for any assigned, or who just wants to stop by. Our car will be near the front entrance to the parking lot.

I knew Alex. I am proud that I knew him for the short time he was on the force. He really liked being a cop, despite thinking lately about moving into another area of law enforcement. He loved his job, he loved his lady, he loved his baby and his family. He also loved this city and gave us the ultimate gift to protect it.

Give him and his family the gift of your time, energy and spirit and come out to pay your respects.

To 12:24 A.M.

If the mayor has the nerve to show up - which he probably wouldn't, given how much he cares about officers - "sit down and shut up" isn't enough.

He should be asked to LEAVE.

6/03/2009 04:36:00 PM

And who's going to do it, you? Shut up, pay your respects and keep your opinions to yourself. This is NOT the time.

Do you know if there is parking in that area for a civilian to pay respects?

6/03/2009 06:05:00 PM

I live down the street. You can park in the lots on the north side of 103rd. Nobody will bother your car. The businesses understand and the neighbors don't mind, even when we can't park our own cars. It's a small inconvenience given the gravity and sadness of the funerals for fire and police.

Good bless that poor young officer and his family.

HEARD that Oak Lawn Officers are volunteering their own "PERSONAL" time to work the wake. This doesn't surprise me, they are a stand up group of coppers. Thank you guys and gals for sparing time away from your families,to help your family in Blue.
Much Appreciated!!! From CPD

thank you to oak lawn police.. very solid of you guys to do that. to the cpd coppers, if you see these guys out in traffic on that day be sure to bring an extra couple bottles of water or gatorade to throw to them... its not much thanks but hopefully will make them more comfortable and show that we appreciate what they will be doing for the fallen officer and the family... after all, we all know how it feels to have to stand out in traffic all day long.. hopefully we can all show them some support also for the thougtfulness and good deeds they are doing for cpd on friday and saturday.

It is so sad that such a terrible tragedy happened; but the outpouring of love and brotherhood that spring forth from it prove that coppers are a brotherhood beyond compare.

God Bless the men and women in blue!!!

Thank-You OLPD, I hope and pray that the CPD never has to provide the service that you are most generously providing.

SCC, I know we have had a tough week but I was hoping you could post this somewhere. A fellow brother needs our support. I don't want to take away from what is going on with Alex but could you find a spot for this? Pedro really needs our support. Thanks!!!

Off Topic: PO Needs Our Support!!!!

I know this has been a tough week for all of us. We have a fellow brother that needs our prayers and support.

Officer Pedro Medina (Recruit Class 98-11A) assigned to the 014th District was deployed to Afghanistan. Officer Medina was seriously injured in a building collapse. He is being treated for his injuries at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, DC. He has a long road to recovery and he needs the love, support and friendship from his CPD Family. Even if you don’t know him personally please take a moment of your time and drop him a letter or send him a card with words of encouragement and support. It will lift his spirits during his difficult rehabilitation. He misses his CPD family and would love to hear from as many of his brothers and sisters as possible!

off the topic...

Just wondering about another brother in blue who was shot in the shoulder sometime late last year in the 10th district? I think he was on a crime scene when someone shot from the alley.

Did he make a full recovery??? Haven't heard much about it.

Any info?

I have one question. I live walking distance to St. Bede, is it appropriate for a citizen to attend the service for a fallen officer? I would like to show my respects, but only if it wasn't considered an intrusion. Thank you.

Please attend. You will be welcomed. The funeral is a tribute to Alex. It is not by any means an intrusion. Please be there. Thank you.

The story of the NYPD is a song by The Wolfe Tones. The title is The Streets of New York. My Grandfather was a Policeman and it was my Dad's favorite Irish song. I thought it was fitting. Keep all of our fallen and living in your prayers. DS

RE: Parking for the wake-Jewel lot, Bowling alley lot, George Washington Bank lot (On Cicero north of 103rd). They all said to use their lots, they are happy to help. Also any and all streets in the area, and there is a pretty big lot at the funeral home. Nobody, and I mean nobody will have a problem parking their car.

I wish civilians knew how much their kind words mean to us. A "Thank you, Officer" makes our whole day worth while. And, when our brother or sister falls...a citizen paying their respects is like a comforting hug.

OLPD is a professional organization and they are much appriciated in times of need, thanks guys and gals for all your support.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Alex and all his CPD brothers and sisters.

The only good thing about this horrible event is the solidarity and brother hood law enforcement shows when we have to bury one of our own. Im sure many agencies will be represented tomorrow out of respect for Alex and his sacrifice.

Thanks for the post about Ofc. Medina...I will be happy to send him a card of my appreciation..any idea on his military rank and service branch so i can address the card properly to show my respect?

Thanks

St. Jude is the patron saint of the Chicago Police Department. When the Saint Jude Society meets at a Police Officer's wake it is a group of officer led by a chaplain. In the old days when there were more priests it was a priest who led the service. It is a time for police officers as a group to pay their respects to the deceased comrade.

To the kind civilian. There is a large parking lot across the street owned by a grocery store and bowling alley but they have always let people park there for police and fire wakes w/o complaint. As a result of that courtesy, anytime I needed something that could be purchased from one of those shops, I bought there.
