Englewood Shooting - Officer Down (Update)

Critical condition:
  • A plain-clothes Chicago police officer was shot in the head and critically wounded early this morning in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, authorities said.

The attack occurred about 12:30 a.m. in the 6000 block of South Hermitage Avenue as the 27-year-old three-year veteran officer and his partner were investigating a report of shots fired, said Police Supt. Jody Weis at a news conference in the lobby of police headquarters.

The shots were fired from a vehicle with more than one person in it, Weis said. Weis, who at the early morning news conference was wearing a gray Bears sweatshirt and blue jeans, refused to discuss that vehicle.

Thoughts and prayers ONLY at this time. Leave the rest for later.

UPDATE: Officer Alex Valadez succumbed to his wounds early this afternoon. RIP Officer.

Sucking down my 2nd beer after getting home from work a few hours later than usual.....Tonight was really insane and intense for everyone involved...I am proud, as ever, of all the coppers out there who DO THEIR JOBS because it is done in the spirit of what is good and right and precious to us all...PLease, God, have mercy on him, his family, his partners, his friends, and every single person whose core has been shaken by this event and its resounding realities...

This is heartbreaking. These animals are disgusting. I can't stand that you are hurt protecting us from these scum. I cannot express how grateful I am for your service. You and your CPD family are true heroes to keep protecting us and fighting for what's right - without the support you deserve - with dirty hell-bound politicians working against you for their own greedy gain. Please Lord, give us a miracle and save this young Officer. God Bless the Officer, his family and the CPD. You are in my thoughts and prayers. I am praying for a miracle.

And to you the Media start reporting the full stories of these thugs, when you show them in there graduation caps from 12 years ago be sure to show there mile long rap sheet as well. When I heard that the officer died from his wounds my knees buckled, my heart grew heavy and tears fell in my lap as I hung my head down in sorrow.

I never had the honor to meet this officer but I know without ever meeting him that he was a TRUE BLUE. Despite not having a contract, despite working in the worst district in the city, despite the negative attack by the citizens, the media and the department, despite the low morale, this officer, this brave man, still served and protected the community for which he worked for, and gave them the ultimate scarfice, his precious life.

I pray for him, I pray for his wife and their unborn baby, I pray for all the officers who responded and for all the family and friends who hurt from his loss, and for the community who has lost a good officer.

MAY GOOD BLESS YOU AND MAY YOU WATCH AND PROTECT OVER US.

A Policeman's Prayer

When I start my tour of duty God,
Wherever crime may be,
as I walk the darkened streets alone,
Let me be close to thee.

Please give me understanding with both the young and old.
Let me listen with attention until their story's told.
Let me never make a judgment in a rash or callous way,
but let me hold patience let each man have his say.

Lord if some dark and dreary night,
I must give my life,
Lord, with your everlasting love
protect my children and my wife.

Mother fucker, I am SO numb right now. I cannot believe this at all. It has been a hard ride for us in these recent times. 2 Officers killed last year, and then Joe's injuries finally catching up to him.

Now already in a week we have DC sitting in a coma, and then AV dies from his wounds.

Please be safe officers, and please, please reach out to your friends from the academy who you have been meaning to call....I missed my chance with Densey, and it bothers me so much today.

Once again a CPD officer is truly heroic in death by donating his very body so that others may have life.

Look at these postings. They come from all over, saying the same thing.

We are proud, united, and shall never give up the fight.

Only the police and their families know what the fight is all about. Stay proud to be the CPD. Watch your own backs , don't rely on others.
