Posts Running Late Tonight

Due to the outpouring of support for the fallen today, we're a bit behind.

Unfortunately, we had to delete a number of comments in the remembrance thread. We stated thoughts and prayers ONLY for the thread right below this one. The oaths of vengeance, the blame, the rip jobs on the media coverage and certain figures in certain positions, all that can wait for another thread.

Use this post if you want. But we're moderating almost 600 comments today from nearly 20,000 visitors and while we appreciate everyone wanting to get a word in, we aren't discussing contract issues, ASA's, men of the cloth or anything else at the moment.

Thanks for your patience.

UPDATE: We really don't feel like posting much tonight. Our heart isn't in the "sarcasm and silliness" frame. It's difficult to be entertaining after a day like today. We'll see what we can find tonight, but we aren't too hopeful.

It's been such a bad day, I doubt that anyone would fault you for not publishing at all tonight.

God speed Officer Valadez. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family and friends.

You had a LONG day. Be good to yourself and the family. Have a good stiff belt of your favorite liniment and hit the sack. All this computer stuff will still be here tomorrow.

PRAYER OF ST. MICHAEL

O Almighty God,

whose great power and eternal wisdom

Embraces the universe,

Watch over all Police and Law Enforcement Officers.

Protect them from harm in the performance of their duty

To stop crime, robberies, riots and violence.

We pray, help them keep our streets

And homes safe day and night.

We recommend them to your loving care

Because their duty is dangerous.

Grant them your unending strength

And courage in their daily assignments.

Dear God, protect these brave men and women,

Grant them your almighty protection,

Unite them safely with their families after duty ends.

AMEN.

PRAYER OF ST. MICHAEL

SCC,,

Very understandable, nobody is in a good mood today.

Why is it that it sometimes takes a horrible tragedy for us to unite?

Why is it that when a 10-1 is called all differences are forgotten, there is no color but blue and the blue lightning strikes from miles away and districts away???

Why, I ask???

Simple, because we are a family! Sometimes a dysfunctional one, but a family nontheless; and we all know that we are only a slip away from that horrible fate that stole our brother's life away.

Yes, we have our screwups and our black sheep; but what family doesn't???

Remember, we are strong only when we are UNITED brothers and sisters!!!

UNITED WE STAND, STRONGER NOW THAN EVER!!!

GOD BLESS THE CPD!!!

HEY SCC...

Here's yet ANOTHER example of a quality Supervisor on display at the CPD:

When you have the opportunity to do so, look up event # 0915204186. For those of you reading this at home or elsewhere without access to the PCAD or a PDT, I'll give you a brief synopsis of what this event entails.

On 01 June 09 at 0836 hrs., beat 922 received a job under the listed event number. It seems a certain clout-heavy Lieutenant, upon approaching her TAKE HOME department vehicle, was denied access to same vehicle. "What was it"? you ask that impeded her access. Was it a group of gang bangers participating in some sort of initiation rite of intimidation? NO. Was it a rabid canine, frothing at the mouth, growling and barking ferociously, trying to maul the Lieutenant? No. Maybe vandals caught in the act of damaging the department vehicle? Again, NO.

HERE'S WHAT IT WAS...

THE LIEUTENANT'S NEIGHBOR HAD THEIR SPRINKLER ON.

That's right, you read the previous sentence correctly. Seems the trajectory of spraying water prohibited the Lieutenant from getting into her police car without getting wet. So instead of reverting to her years of honed "leadership skills" and "problem solving" expertise gained through two promotions, thus finding a solution to her dilemma, she simply picked up her DEPARTMENT cellular telephone and dialed "911". And by doing so, this supervisor further taxed an already over-worked beat car in an extremely busy district. How hard would it have been for a person of her supervisory stature to concoct a plan of action, such as:

1) Waiting for the sprinkler to oscillate away from her...OR

2) Turning the hose off at the spigot...OR

3) Kinking the hose or changing the direction of the spray...OR

4) Sliding her fat ass into the car from the opposite side...OR

5) (When numbers 1 thru 4 aren't viable options, i.e. in the event of an in-ground sprinkler system), making a mad-dash to the driver's door of vehicle, unlocking same door, quickly entering the vehicle and then closing the door

Oh...did I mention that this Lieutenant is assigned to unit 126/Auditing and Internal Control Division (AKA "Inspector")? AND that this job was dispatched as a priority "1A"? AND that beat 990 also responded to the scene? All of this ironic in the sense in that part of this Lieutenant's day-to-day responsibilities include ensuring the effective and efficient use of manpower, prioritizing calls for police service, time and asset management, etcetera.

Wait just a minute...can I get odds on her promotions as "meritorious" in origin given the obvious absence of common sense? If not meritorious, how about double-or-nothing on a hidden existence for the majority of her career? Maybe a combination of the two? Twenty-one (21) years with the CPD, and this is what may lead the troops into battle someday?

I find it absolutely sickening that someone of such rank, representing what USED TO BE the finest law enforcement department in this country, called for an EMERGENCY solution to a "problem" easily solved by any 5 year old. This was a total waste of resources, time and effort starting at the call-taker and working it's way through the dispatcher and eventually down to the responding officers.

If this dummy couldn't successfully outsmart a sprinkler, how do you think she might handle a police-involved shooting when she may someday be YOUR Field Lieutenant? Who knows, maybe she just stays home every time it rains?

Hey, J-Fed! Look no further (at least at this exact moment) than this latest example of incompetence, ignorance and embarrassment by a supervisor as to why morale is in the shitter and why most of us lowly blue shirts can't/won't trust 99% of supervisors to "have our backs". And just for clarification...as it appeared on the job ticket, this particular Lieutenant's last name was misspelled. It actually ends with a "C-U-A".

A short open letter to the men and woman of the CPD,
Although I live in a safe part of Chicago I still worry, like in early April at 4 AM a transformer in an alley 4 blocks from my house blew, it popped about 9 times and sounded like gun shots it woke me up I turned on the ole police scanner and multipal shots fired calls, within 1 minute at least 6 squads flew by my house to this call, unfounded, but you guys were there THANK YOU, when I found the old lady that was missing in January in my unlocked vehicle frozen to death, I called 911 and less than a minute later 3 cars there just like that, you beat the ambulance which is only 2 blocks away, you guys always beat the fire dept. to calls THANK YOU, for all the good stories I see about you running into burning buildings with out protective fire equipment to save lives, some that aren't even human THANK YOU. I see you on patrol on Sundays and holidays and I know that you would rather be with your family on those days, THANK YOU. Believe me there are a whole lot of people that feel the way that I do, you may feel that you are in a thankless job but THANK YOU for all that you do

Dear Mr Mayor,
What is it going to take to open your eyes?

A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FROM ALL THE FAMILIES OF THE CHICAGO POLICE DEPT. (THE ACTIVE MEMBER OF THE POLICE DEPT CAN SUE, BUT IT DOESN'T MEAN FAMILY MEMBERS CAN'T)

THERE IS A VIDEO OF "SCUM" THREATENING OUR LAW ABIDING SPOUSES, CHILDREN, GIRLFRIENDS, BOYFRIENDS, GRANDCHILDREN, THAT ARE SERVING YOU AND OUR CITY. A CITY THAT IS GOING TO HELL IN A HAND BASKET, AND ALL YOU CAN DO IS SETTLE LAWSUITS FOR THE FAMILIES OF "SCUM". THE "SCUM" IDENTIFIED IN MOST CASES AS CPS HONOR STUDENTS.

MAYBE, WE THE FAMILIES SHOULD GET TOGETHER AND STAND AND PICKET IN FRONT OF CITY HALL, UNTIL YOU NOTICE THAT OUR MEN AND WOMEN IN BLUE ARE DRIVING PIECES OF CRAP THAT YOU WOULDN'T LET ANY OF YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS RIDE IN. THEY HAVE TO HAVE A PERFECT BODY TO EVEN GET CONSIDERED TO SHOOT A RIFLE, EVEN THOUGH SOME OF THEM HAVE HAD BETTER TRAINING THEN THE CPD COULD EVER PROVIDE. EVER HEAR OF THE US MILITARY, EXTENSIVE BEST TRAINING AROUND, BUT THESE PEOPLE DON'T HAVE PERFECT BODIES, BUT HAVE PERFECT SHOTS.

I AM ANGRY, ONE OF OUR FAMILY MEMBERS WAS TAKEN AWAY AND FOR WHAT? SO THAT THE "SCUM" CAN LAUGH AND SAY THEY "KILLED A COP".

WAKE UP, THE COPS ARE THE GOOD GUYS AND YOU AND THE MEDIA CAN ONLY SHOW THE FEW THAT ARE ROTTEN APPLES. THESE ARE THE PEOPLE YOU HIRED TO UPHOLD THE LAW, YET YOU HANDCUFF THEM EVERY TIME YOU SETTLE A BOGUS LAWSUIT FOR A CRIMINAL'S FAMILY.

GET THIS DEPT UP TO DATE, GET THEM WHAT THEY NEED TO FIGHT CRIME IN THIS CENTURY. THESE ARE NOT CRIMINALS, SO STOP TREATING THEM LIKE THEY ARE.

A MARCH OF ALL POLICE FAMILIES MIGHT MAKE YOU TAKE NOTICE OF WHAT IS GOING ON IN THIS ONCE GREAT CITY. HOW MUCH FURTHER DOWN CAN YOU DRIVE THIS CITY? I HOLD YOU PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY POLICE OFFICER THAT GETS SHOT IN THIS CITY, MUCH LESS KILLED...,

AND NOW YOU KNOW THAT SOME OF THEM ARE GUNNING FOR THE POLICE, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE TO GET THE HELP (MORE OFFICERS)AND EQUIPMENT TO FIGHT THIS HUGE PROBLEM. I PRAY EACH DAY THAT MY HUSBAND COMES HOME SAFE.

YOU MAY NOT CARE, BUT I DO.

SINCERELY
LINDA

LET THE MEDIA PICK THIS UP AND PUBLISH IT. THEY WON'T BECAUSE YOU CONTROL THEM LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE.

You know the swine flue is going 'round. If you need to, take a mental health day on the medical, that's what it's for.
If it persists seek assistance there's no shame.

The majority of the stress I feel from this job is from the awful leadership. If the public only knew that every exempt and most of every other supervisory rank are only concerned with not losing their spots; not the public's best interest, they would march on the 5th floor.

We all need to stop bickering about not having a contract and band together like we did a few moths ago.
We are all blue and bleed blue when tradgedies like this happen. Don't let his life go in vain. Let's take back these streets and not be suckers to the fear of a police board round table or media BS. We all know the truth and that is all that matters. Time to step it up!!

Alright, wipe the tears from your eyes and cut the sadness, but continue to honor AV and look ahead for his soon-to-be-born child.

Because they were not married, his fiance, a fellow police officer, will get zip, nada, nothing, as far as pay and benefits from the pension fund in response to the in-the-line-of-duty murder of AV, however, his child will get some benefits after the child is born and proven to be his blood child.

That means the child's mother will have no choice but to continue to work outside the home because she is not AV's widow. She will not receive AV's paycheck until he would have been 63 years of age, nor will she receive his retirement pay after he would have been essentially 'retired' at that same age.

Think about it, the child has not even been born yet, but has already lost their father and their mother will not be around as they grow. Plus, also being a police officer, the child's mother will continue to be subjected to the same day-to-day dangers that took AV from his soon-to-be-born child.

Yes, you could say many people are brought up by single-working mothers, however, but for a marriage certificate, the resources would have been extended to her so she could be the 24/7 parent that AV's child most surely deserves.

I do not know how to proceed in order to start an effort to get benefits granted to the child's mother, but maybe someone else on SCC can direct me.

"The Final Inspection"

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

A group of salesmen are out in the neighborhood and they're are wearing white polo type shirts and blue pants. Embroidered on their shirts is "Just Energy". This is the new name of an old company called "US Energy Savings Corp".
They use high pressure sales and misleading examples in order to make you sign a contract for their company to take over your payments to Peoples Gas. Eccentially you pay them a fee to pay your gas bill. If you sign their contract you are locked in for 5 years and they jack your rates every 4 months. They say that they'll lock you in at a summer rate (.79 cents per therm) now so when gas prices jump you'll still be locked in. THIS IS ALL BULLSHIT. Your price with Peoples Gas may go up a little, (by fractions of a penny or so) but that's not what effects your bill. The amount of winter usage in volume of therms effects your bill not the rate price. DO NOT LET THESE PEOPLE NEAR YOU OR YOUR NEIGHBORS. THEY ARE A SCAM COMPANY. Check them out at the www.bbb.com They were sued by the Atty. Generals office for Deception and Misleading the customer. They were found roaming on 0812's beat this afternoon and confronted. They were told to leave block or get arrested. 3 complied and left the vicinty of 64th and Austin. They are in a bright white newer model sedan.

PS: if you signed with them, you have 72 hours to fax, call or mail to request to cancel. The best is to fax and mail. If you call you'll be on hold forever. The information is on your copy of the contract. Over 72 hours, there is a big cancelation fee.
Good Luck.

Hi neighbor.

AWESOME....Final Call"

An Angel In The Sky Must Leave His Place Of Rest,
Gently Tucking His Wings Beneath His Armored Vest.
For Duty Has Called, There Is Much Work To Do
Little Did He Know, This One Is Dressed In Blue.

Arriving On The Scene, He Knows Just What To Say,
"Follow Me, Fallen Brother, I'll Show You The Way."
"Your Duty Has Ended, Your Work Is Now Through."
"Come Hang Your Hat Beside Mine, I'm A Cop, Too.

Saint Michael, heaven's glorious commissioner of police,
who once so neatly and successfully cleared God's premises of all its undesirables, look with kindly and professional eyes on your earthly force.

Give us cool heads, stout hearts, and uncanny flair for
investigation and wise judgment.

Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and
law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores,
strict with law-breakers and impervious to temptations.

You know, Saint Michael, from your own experiences with the devil that the police officer's lot on earth is not always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so
pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration.

And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your
heavenly force, where we will be as proud to guard the throne of God as we have been to guard the city of all the people.

Amen.

Sleep well my brother.

My heart goes out to Officer Valadez's family. Such a tragedy.
He seemed like a born policeman and a good, good man.
I hope they catch the scum who did this.

You lost Officer Alex Valadez yesterday. We all lost Private William Long in Little Rock yesterday. Doctor Tiller, a late-term abortion provider, was murdered in Wichita last week.

Within hours of Doctor Tiller's murder, the President made a statement decrying his murder, and the Attorney General stated that he had ordered the US Marshal's Service to protect certain "at risk" individuals and facilities.

Within hours of Private William Long's murder by Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammed, formerly known as Carlos Bledsoe, the President said nothing, and the Attorney General didn't send the US Marshal's Service to protect recruiting stations.

Within hours of Officer Valadez's murder, crickets.

Something is seriously wrong in D.C., mi amigos.

Can you imagine how a Lt. would have treated a lowly PO for doing the same thing? Smart enough to be a Lt. but not smart enough to out think it...Incredible

"Pray for the Men in Blue"

It takes a very special person to wear the blue.
Most people do not understand what we do
We made a commitment to protect and serve.
We work hard to provide the safety you deserve.

No normal shifts, not nine to five.
We work 24/7 to keep you alive.
Holidays and weekends don’t mean a thing.
We work night and day, just give us a ring.

Our loved ones and children pray every night.
That we will return at the break of daylight.
We carry guns and wear vests to help us get through.
You couldn’t imagine some of the things we must do.

We see accidents and blood and small children crying.
We also see death and it’s not just old people dying.
Abusive spouses and parents that don’t seem to care.
These are just a few of the things, to make you aware.

Drug dealers and drunks are a regular sight.
We go to the bars for fight after fight.
Responding to calls day after day.
Not allowing our personal lives to get in the way.

You complain all the time when you see us on a break.
We just drive around in cars and oh, the money we make.
Stop for a second and try to assess
Who’s always there to clean up the mess.

We do all we can to help and provide.
To make you feel safe and secure inside.
Please remember all of the things that we must do.
And next time you pray, include the men in blue.

You've done your time in hell."
