Someone Explain Please

What the hell?

Please don't tell us this was a former desk officer who didn't know the height of the wagon. That's a lot of damage.

Same thing happened in 020's garage about a year ago.

PO wanted to take the wagon up to their own car to get some stuff.

Knocked the prisoner box right off the frame.

The wagon was fixed and back in service in about 3 weeks.

I don't think they can salvage this box.

The officer should just sign the SPAR, no excuses for this one.

Before you judge simply by looking at the picture a few facts you should know:
That accident occurred in the 009th dist parking garage which is a bi level parking garage. The people who designed and built the garage never envisioned that a wagon might need to go up to the top level so they didn't design enough clearance for it to do so. The department is adamant that there are signs posted at each entrance. The signs say police vehicles only , clearance 9'6".
Do you know of any wagon that clearly states and informs the driver of it's height? If the department didn't intend for wagons to go to the second level then why not post large signs stating NO WAGONS BEYOND MAIN LEVEL. The department and the contractors that built this garage clearly fucked up and now they want to hammer the poor coppers who get stuck working the wagon. I might add that the 009th district opened in mid December of 08 and this latest accident is at least the 4th or 5th time a wagon has been involved in accidents in the garage(although the above pictured one takes the cake as far as the most damage). A few months back a midnight crew working the wagon hit a different part of the garage and one of the officers was injured and needed some serious dental work. This current accident left the driver I.O.D. with neck and back injuries. Wouldn't you think with this clear pattern that the city would've taken some retroactive corrections with the garage? They haven't done a damn thing except get very pissed off at the latest incident. I feel for the officer driving the wagon and fear that the department is going to try and railroad her. I believe that the F.O.P. and the safety committee need to get involved in this one.

Rumor has it that the top deputies on Anita Alvarez's staff have instructed all members of their staff that there will be zero tolerence on any CPD accused of a crime. ASAs were instructed to proceed for any felony you can charge officers with and if it is a misdemeanor offense they are encouraged to look for aggravating circumstances.

They don't care if we are victims, they would much rather portray us as offenders, it gets more press.

That's AWESOME!!!

Obviously, the driver wasn't a regular wagon-man. I'd venture a guess that there was an over-zealous rookie or petite little officerette behind the wheel for that one.

The only thing that picture needs is that goofy Sergeant who posed with the crashed SWA plane to be shown standing next to the wagon.

I LOVE IT!!!

I am laughing so hard. That's too funny. That's the new stations... they didn't build the parking lots high enough for the wagon to go into them. So if you're not a usual wagon guy and happen to work it once in a great while you forget and try to take the ramp up to your car and **BOOM** there goes the whole back end. Has happened a bunch of times already now.

6/04/2009 12:38:00 PM

Well, that's one less wagon we have.

In our district we got two wagons with over 170,000 miles on each of them. Both of them are complete JUNK and they're constantly in the shop for repairs. There's never any pool wagons, so we go without a wagon on a regular basis.

The "doggie van" wagons the city has started to use are a total joke. You have to open multiple doors in order to get the combative offender, sloppy drunk, or whacked out mental inside. The doors are less than 4 feet tall, so the offender has to be a midget, too! These things are going to get some officers hurt, I guarantee it.

The big Ford F450 wagons are nice, but a perfect compromise would be a tallboy, duallie Dodge Sprinter with a bench along each wall. Forget the stupid camera systems and interior cages, they're a total waste of money. Obviously, somebody's making some serious $$$ by selling those rediculous, overpriced "doggie vans" to the city. What a joke!

If the powers that be would just ask the regular wagon guys what would work the best and be the most cost effective, we could easily save hundreds of thousands (if not "millions") of dollars and get much better designed wagons to use throughout the city. It's obvious that the person who's buying the doggie vans has no clue whatsoever about the combative knuckleheads that wagon guys have to transport on a daily basis.

Andy Barr – 2 hrs 19 mins ago

"Former Illinois Democratic Gov. Rod Blagojevich says it’s difficult watching his wife, Patti, fill in for him on a reality show, but he appreciated the former Illinois first lady’s televised exercise in tarantula-eating as an “act of love.”

"'She's making a sacrifice because she loves her kids,' Blagojevich told CNN’s Larry King Wednesday night. 'Eating that tarantula like she had to is an act of love. It's a sign that this is a mother who loves her children.'"

Judge to jurors: Please vote for me

By Frank Main and Abdon M. Pallasch
Chicago Sun-Times Staff Reporters
Published October 28, 2004

Cook County Criminal Court Judge Bertina E. Lampkin is proud of the card jurors sent her this year expressing admiration for her talent in running her courtroom at 26th and California.

So in her campaign to retain her seat on the bench, Lampkin said she sent letters this month to about 100 people who served as jurors in her courtroom.

...

"I don't know whether it's appropriate for Bertina Lampkin to send things out to jurors, but I think it's entirely inappropriate for her to ask them to call her back and confirm that they are going to support her essentially," attorney David Melton said. "That to me quite clearly goes across the line."

Global Pensions
NY state pension system proposals

by Raquel Pichardo-Allison 4 June 2009

US – New York police and fire fighters will have to work five years longer to receive their benefits under proposed changes to the state’s pension system.

Under his new proposals, governor David Paterson is introducing a pension tier that gives states and local governments the ability to opt into a less costly plan for employees.

The tier will create a minimum retirement age of 50 and require employees to work for at least 25 years to collect a pension, up from 20 years.

Supervisor's Statement: This incident was obviously "an act of God" and was out of the operators control. R/Sgt recommends this accident be classified as "unavoidable".

Disciplinary Recommendation: R/Sgt recommends that the Mayor be suspended for 20 days for providing inferior equipment to this Department and endangering the lives and safety of all Department members.

As you can tell, those boxes that are supposed to keep the prisoner secured and made out of thin plywood and plastic then glued together with liquid nails.

Reminds me of the time I watched a wagon destroy the drive through at a Mc Donalds.

6/04/2009 10:46:00 AM

If it's already happened 4 or 5 times and they keep telling everyone at roll call to stay off the ramp with the wagon because it won't fit,,,,,THEN STAY OFF THE FUCKING RAMP WITH WAGON, IT WON'T FIT!!!!!! No excuses, just dumb.

What a treat on Chennel 11's Chicago Tonight. None other than the semi-articulate State Senator Deborah Mell (spider-eating Patty's sister, of course), the only legislator to have voted against the Blagojevich impeachment.

What a nasty piece of work. It just shines through in the face; right out of a Chicago gutter.

Here is the person who really would do something like put her sprinkler over where you'd be annoyed by it when trying to get into your car...

If a vehicle is parked in one of the new district's parking garages and needs to be towed, a normal tow truck won't fit into the garage either. A special tow truck (I forget what they call them) that will fit has to be ordered. Great planning.

Terrible accident, but it happens.
As a retiree, we had asked the city several times to post height warning signs in the trucks so new divers would know the height of the vehicle they were driving. We were ignored.
After the wagon took off the overhang at the airport, we again asked, and were ignored.
So,in addition to the driver, lets also blame some city hall munchkin

Anonymous said.. Before you judge simply by looking at the picture a few facts you should know That accident occurred in the 009th dist parking garage which is a bi level parking garage. The people who designed and built the garage never envisioned that a wagon might need to go up to the top level so they didn't design enough clearance for t to do so. The department is adamant that there are signs posted at each entrance. The signs say police vehicles only , clearance 9'6" Do you know of any wagon that clearly states and nforms the driver of it's height? If the departmen didn't intend for wagons to go to the second leve then why not post large signs stating NO WAGONS BEYOND MAIN LEVEL. The department and the contractors that built this garage clearly fucked up and now they want to hammer the poor coppers who get stuck working the wagon. I might add tha the 009th district opened in mid December of 08 and this latest accident is at least the 4th or 5th

Oh boo fuckin hooooo........lots of districts have lots the wagon don't fit in. And guess what we don't try to drive them up there.this shit is too funny.

You are joking, right? Blah, blah, blah. Enough already. The only person to blame for this is the nitwit behind the wheel. And judging by the whining and finger-pointing in that wordy reply, I'm guessing that nitwit was you. So take your day suspension, go to driver training school like the Traffic Safety Review Board recommended and continue to bitch about it to everyone stuck working with you for the next 25 years without simply accepting the blame like you should.
