I hope this isn't out of line. I hope a PO tapes the long procession and the church for us relocated retirees that are following this and mourning with you.
We are (as a family) watching the funeral for this slain officer. We didn't know him personally but we are watching it because we want to honor this young man and offer prayers to his family. My 17 year old son said "this is as bad as it gets, we have to do something about this." Meaning, who would kill a police officer and what has happened to a society and government that allows this to happen.
I've been reading the recent posts about the media and I'd just like to add that I believe the tide is turning for baby boomers. It occurs to me as I'm watching this funeral that this kind of honor and reverence, tradition, respect, etc. has all but disappeared from the media. I am old enough to remember that outrage by decent folks was commonplace at our dinner tables, front porches, communities, and yes, by extension and a reflection of the citizenry---the media.
Where has it gone and why? A time was "reporters" had their pulse on the events of the day. Why has that changed? I may come from a generation of young people who did a lot of crazy wild things and experimented here and there with things we shouldn't have, but we are the offspring of a great generation and I feel very strongly right now that we have to find a way to keep that alive for our children by demanding that it be reflected or addressed by the media. I do my best in my home but what is the role of the media in all of this? Don't they have an obligation to reflect (what I believe is the majority of people) the decency and good in our society? Is it all about ratings and money? What do they teach these people in journalism school? And what do the editors turn them into?
It all has to change.
My parents were hard-working middle class blue collar workers. My grandparents served in the war and survived the depression. It seems to me, that the time for nonsense and a disregard for respect and authority is over. While we may have challenged the status quo in our youth, we know better know and it's time for all of us to pass it on to our children. If we don't, they will have nothing to guide and comfort them. And if we don't hold the media accountable it will never reflect accurately the hearts and minds of the people who read and watch their product.
The "voice" of the people is not through gangbangers, or fake men of the cloth or criminals (white collar or otherwise). Their time is over and should never have been. Doesn't the media understand that by simply allowing them to crawl out of hiding where their rightful place always was and giving them time and space has also allowed them to attain a kind of respectability? A kind of normalcy. They are not normal. They are not constructive or beneficial, why were they allowed a place at the table?
That officer probably did everything right. Catholic school, college, and right into the force. His parents did the right thing. And for what? To be gunned down by savages that have nothing to offer society and do not deserve to share the same breath with the rest of us?
When I was a kid, my parents, grandparents always told me...all you have is your honor, your good name, your reputation. They were so right. Something is wrong. It has been wrong for a very long, long time. And it's time for a change.
God bless Ofr. Valadez and everyone that has ever loved him for the grief they are feeling right now and for all the time they will have to carry that with them.
Sneed wrote the following on June 5th: "Police Blotter: Sneed hears former Police Supt. I came early so I can salute and pay my repects to Officer Valadez from the front of the line of the sea of BLUE. It was very touching, and Im glad I brought my sunglasses to hide my tears.
I just cant believe that the ass Alderman Isaac Carothers decided to drive his car, with his dipshit plates that read "IKE" right in the middle of the street that was shut down, awaiting the arrival of Officer Valadez's procession. What a complete ASS!! And better yet, why was he let down the street to begin with?
My thoughts are prayers are with his girlfriend, their families, friends and fellow officers. I've been thinking of his all day, and the many sacrifices so many officers make.
Man, if I ever have any sort of hope left for the CPD it came out today. All you brothers and sisters looked sharp. And how about those suburb/state/county guys coming too! I recall seeing two brothers with their girlfriends, they looked like state police from somewhere, dressed in black with red stripe? lookin' sharp.
I felt sad, hopeless, and then angry. Angry at everything these bosses did to this job to make morale so low. When will they let us take back the streets? When will the ASA's and judges grow some balls and go after the real criminals to their fullest capacity? When will the citizens finally take their heads out of their asses and look around them and see what is happening to the city they live in? When will the media- aww hell they're a lost cause. I have no idea how these guys sleep at night, or how they make their parents proud. It's beyond me.
Alex's brother gave an excellent speech. I'm not sure how he contained himself. I almost lost it. Very strong copper. Stay safe guys, remember these bosses don't give a crap about us. They just care about how many parkers and tickets you write.
Was it me, or did the Mayor say P.O. Valadez was "a good husband"? Please correct me if I'm wrong...but if that was the case, how embarrasing! I thought he was engaged, not married. Mayor, tell your speech writers to get their facts straight.
I just got home from Alex Valadez's funeral. It was, as always, very moving, especially considering that his child will be born an orphan. His partner's eulogy was one of the best I've heard. I don't know if it's just me or not but it seems that the turnout amongst CPD was much less than compared to the turnout for Nate Taylor's funeral at the same church less than one year ago. Saturday morning, June, beautiful weather. Where was everybody?
I forgot to mention: At the funeral Ike Carothers was standing right next to Gov. Quinn. Governor, thanks for helping us mourn one of our own. Ike, stay home you shameless bastard.
I counted about 150 assorted police cars/personal cars in the procession to the cemetery. 83rd/Pulaski tied up for about 25-30 minutes, all those tvb's getting mad because they had to wait, cold comfort to be sure, but it's good for people to see this stuff to remind them of the costs involved. To all of the outside agencies that came to the funeral today, thank you, I sincerely hope and pray that we never have to respond in kind. You're all class acts, every single one of you. God Bless You All, and BE SAFE!
it was a very sad day RIP brother in blue. nice words from your partner he is a strong man to stand up and speak and let us know what a great partner he had in you i think you will always be a part of him forever. from a 014 P/O
Nice service, good eulogy by Vargas, it had to be hard but you held it together well, you are obviously a very strong person. I'm very disappointed with the turnout from my own district, 023 and I definitely didn't see enough north side name tags there. 1,000 coppers are not enough, we can do better, we had more than that for our contract protest and this is far more important. Lastly, there is a comment on CLTV about some ignorant cameraman asking an honor guard his name and star number because the honor guard asked him several times to move. I can't stress this enough people, don't befriend the media, don't talk to the media, don't acknowledge the media, the few newscasters that aren't scum still work for scum. That is all. RIP officer.
The bartender looks like a troll. And how can the Mayor not have taken Ike's title away from him? For him to stand there in the middle of all those officers with what he has been accused of just demonstrates the audacity of mope instead of hope.
Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone, Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone, Silence the pianos and with muffled drum Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.
Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead Scribbling on the sky the message He is Dead. Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves, Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.
He was my North, my South, my East and West, My working week and my Sunday rest, My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song; I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong.
The stars are not wanted now; put out every one, Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun, Pour away the ocean and sweep up the woods; For nothing now can ever come to any good.
P.O. Tom Vargas, you are a class act and were, by far, the most sincere speaker at the mass. My heart goes out to you especially when you get in your squad on 1st watch and look over to see Alex. He may not be sitting next to you but he will be with you. Your bond with Alex will never be broken. Your angel Alex will always be on your shoulder so talk to him whenever you feel the need. You make me proud to wear blue! Stay safe!
One of the officers was nice enough to snap a few pics of the cpd cars in procession, the district draped in mourning, and the cfd with the ladder raised:
Through an act of pure evil violence, our Hearts come together, to take care of our Brother, whose cause in this life was not in vain, shall not be forgotten, but seen with quiet admiration and the deepest respect. With Love to you, Officer Alex Valadez...One Day...we shall meet again...
PO VARGAS (Alex's partner) found an amazing courage to speak and let people know the type of person Alex really was. PO Vargas did an amazing job and you can just hear the pain in his voice and the love for Alex within the words he spoke. I think it was a moving speach and I just wanted to say THANK YOU TOM! I could only imagine how hard that was for you. May God bless you and keep you safe!!
I think there was an amazing turnout by all law enforcement agencies.....Alex may you rest in peace!!! And God bring your beautiful family strength and courage!!
Something little impressed me, something we don't see often. All along the procession's route to could pick out citizens standing solemnly at the curb, their hands over thier hearts. God sped Alex, a lot cared, and some don't even wear blue.
I will never forget the sorrowful sobbing of Alex's mother today at grave side. What a sad day, but beautifully done. I'm very proud of each and everyone of my brothers and sisters in blue, CFD and suburban officers who attended!!!
R.I.P Brother...we'll miss you at the breakfast club. Shortshanks and Jfraud gave their prepared speech and received minimal applause mostly from their boot lickers. Gov Quinn received a bit more repectful applause because his comments seemed to come from the heart and expressed more outrage. PO Vargas was a true rock, inspiration and class act and received a sustained standing ovation. Thanks to all the suburban departments that showed from as far away as Gurnee, Northlake and Hammond IN...we are all one! One last thing...I don't think it has been mentioned but outstanding job by Zone6 dispatcher that fateful night. Mike was working OT on his RDO and was friends with Alex but through it all he kept his composure and got the information out as quick as possible. He kept repeating the info did not allow the air to be tied up and did not dispatch any other jobs. At one point there was an open key, Mike used a few explatives the FCC would frown upon to get that key closed. Great job "DOC"! God Bless and Be Safe!
Im sick over this... I cant stop thinking about it, wishing Alex was still out there policing our streets...Rest easy, Officer Valadez. You made your mark on this town.
thanks to all who attended, agencies from near and far, our Mayor Daley, family, Supt; CFD, everyone. Alex is proud to be from our CPD family for sure, and is in the hands of the Lord, and our dearly departed brother and sister officers. An extremely sad, but loving occasion. Wish we could all be together more often, in everyday matters too. Perhaps we can all learn a little something, from our mutual tragic loss. God Bless Alex, and Rest in Peace brave officer. We are all proud of you.
"My parents were hard-working middle class blue collar workers. My grandparents served in the war and survived the depression."
Yeah -- they were right, weren't they? They defined the norm, and have been spat on for so doing -- i.e., Norman Lear's corrosive "All In The Family." It seems like all we see today is 150 million benefit-seekers trying to crawl into the empty shell they left behind.
Their contribution was such that, 65 years later, even Barack Hussein Obama is afraid not to go to Normandy to render lip service -- at least for as long as any of them still shall live and finish spending their life savings on property tax increases and Depends.
"While we may have challenged the status quo in our youth, we know better know and it's time for all of us to pass it on to our children. If we don't, they will have nothing to guide and comfort them."
I faced up to it a long time ago. We were had. "The Sixties" was as much of a controlled rebellion, a packaged consumer product -- "Turn on, tune in, drop out. Don't trust anyone over 30. Kill your parents" -- as is today's idiotic crotch-grabbing, filth-rapping "thug life" that just got a young policeman killed.
Don't be distracted by the clothes, the music, the videos -- look more at who's always selling 'em and you will have your answer. The bullet that slew Officer Valadez began its flight in Hollywood.
D-Day and a police funeral...a threat of rain that never quite came...
RTP And may God protect all of his Law enforcement people........... Let's also hope and pray that the Judiciary system get a hint of what Justice is now that another good cop has had his life "taken" from all of us. My 27yo and 3yr LEOs killer is already out on the street. Where in the Good Creators scheme is there justice? Not revenge but legal justice.......... Stay Safe People. And go home safe to your families.......
SCC, I was directed to your blog about a year and a half ago by a friend who works for CPD in evidence inventory. I have been a daily lurker of the blog since then. It's been very educational for me in a number of different ways, and all for the better. Especially when it comes to seeing how this city is being destroyed by greed.
This is my 1st post and I wish it was under better circumstances, but things are what they are, both good and bad. Today at about 1:15 PM I hopped on a 63W bus over to the Orange line (I don't drive), and as we got to 63rd and Menard, traffic came to a stop. It didn't take me long to figure out why that was. I was able to see the procession heading north on Central. It was pretty sobering watching, but at the same time it was inspirational. I can't say enough good things about the various representatives of the departments that were a part of the procession (I wouldn't be surprised if there were close to 20 different departments represented). It was an incredibly heartfelt gesture to see that solidarity shown on such a deep level towards that young man.
What I saw today just reinforced for me that whatever department you work for, the police have an incredible bond that the average citizen really can't relate to. But we citizens can understand how not to take things for granted, especially the police and what you guys and gals do for us and it is appreciated more than you think. I think the best way to end this post is simply to say thank you to the CPD and all departments for what you do.
RIP and God Bless Officer Valadez, you have made positive contributions that will not be forgotten.
Somebody killed a policeman today, And a part of America died. A piece of our country he swore to protect Will be buried with him at his side. The suspect who shot him will stand up in court, With counsel demanding his rights, While a young widowed mother must work for her kids And spend alone many long nights. The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too, Just as if he'd gone off to war. Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast, To his name they will add a gold star. Yes, somebody killed a policeman today, It happened in your town or mine. While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors, A cop put his life on the line. Now, his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street, And he stands at each new rookie's side. He answered the call and gave us his all, And a part of America died.
REST IN PEACE MY BROTHER!
OUR HEARTS ARE HEAVY BECAUSE WE LOST YOU BUT HAPPY KNOWING WE HAVE YOU WATCHING OVER US.
Shame on all that slept in today. Alex was what some of us were back in the day, what some of us want to be and what many of us are. A young Police Officer trying to make a difference and back the rest of us up along the way. I am glad to see so many, but many more should have come. God Bless you Alex, your Family, Fiance and Tom Vargas.
P.O. Vargas did an amazing job. His letter to Alex was flawless. Its officers like him that make it worth while going to work everyday. I wish to have an ounce of his courage. I'm sure Alex will be his partner by his side every night guiding him. God bless the Valadez family and the CPD.

God Bless Officer Valdez, and thanks to Phil Cline, to bad he was not the Supt,at least he was and will always be the "real police"!
I worked the funeral today. not my first in my 10yrs.I was awe struck. Many thanks to all the suburb/county/state coppers that came. 225 police cars and 125 personal cars, awsome. As i drove the route, people lined the streets, not just to watch, but pay respect. Im lost for words, but thank god i am part of this family.
We are (as a family) watching the funeral for this slain officer. ..................................... this was a great post. i think it reflects what a lot of us feel. it hits home on many points. thank you for your reflection. please stay safe and bless you.
God bless you for all the hard work you did while you were with us. You are in a better place right now. And I hope that your family finds their peace someday!

Does he have the headlights wired to flash alternately as he crawls majestically along?
How about a framed color portrait of himself wired to the grill in front?
Jeez.
Remember the limousine in Escape From New York with the glass chandeliers jingling on the sides as the thing maneuvered?
I was at the funeral today and was shocked. During the procession I observed several citizens along the route in tears. I also want to thank all the Departments that assisted along the route helping us lay OUR brother to rest. God bless you Alex and God bless your family!
I am not one of your supporters. As a matter of fact, I have been one of your greatest critics. However, I happen to be privvy to the fact that you have returned all of the compensatory time Officers used to attend the Police Memorial in Washington. That was a very honorable thing to do and shame on your staff for not making that known to the rank and file.
Now you have a Captain that would not permit Officers to attend a funeral of one of our heroes. YOU MUST CRUSH HIM. I DON'T CARE THAT HE IS A MINORITY, I DON'T CARE THAT HE IS COMPLETE MERIT, I DON'T CARE WHO HIS CLOUT IS. YOU MUST DO THE HONORABLE THING AND MAKE HIS LIFE FUCKING LIFE MISERABLE.
CPT Jones, he of the "get the ticket and tapes from that FOOT pursuit," is in well over his head, unless you call chatting with the dollies police work. You really fucked it up today though. Tonight, you cock-sucker, you denied officers to go to a funeral, saying "If it was that important you would have gone on your own time". Fuck you! Of course you would not understand why it was important for all of the new kids on the watch to go and pay their respects, because you NEVER were a working cop. NEVER! Not once, look in the mirror, that pussy looking back at you does not lie, you were and ARE a do nothing.
SCC - If this is true, and by the language and hate in it, I think it is, well then this has to be put out there for all to know. I do not recall if there were a lot of people from 5 at the wake or not, I was not paying attention, but if this is the reason for not coming, I find that unacceptable.
Cry "Havoc!" and let slip the dogs of war, That this foul deed shall smell above the earth with carrion men, groaning for burial.
The cur have had their time. It is now time to take back the streets, that the good men and women may have peace. It matters not who commands, for when one is gone, another takes his place. The only matter is, do you have the courage to do what is right and just? You asd "What time is it?" I reply, "It is time to pay the Piper."
OT Kind of----Awhile back I taped a WTTW documentary called Irish Chicago. Tonight I was watching it and there is a segment on Tom Tunney while he is serving a table of people at Ann Sather. One of the people at the table is a Chicago Police Officer who looks an awful lot like Officer Valadez. Anyone know if this is him or someone else? My husband asked me why I was rewinding the tape and when I stopped it before I said anything he said that looks like the officer that just died. So I guess I wasn't imagining it.
I recall when an Officer was killed in the line of duty in the 010th District. Maurer and all of the Exempts, including female Exempts, made the recovery. The 010th District Officers which were assigned to that watch were addressed by Maurer and sent home to be with their families. TRU came in and covered the watch.
Now we have a Watch Commander that will not allow Officers in the same District tio attend one of their own's wake.
What the fuck is happening in this Department. I promise you, if this were to occur in my District, I will do everything I possibly could to encourage the whole fucking watch to walk.
You Jagoff bosses had better pay very close attention. We may be having our own tea party on this job very soon, and what are you going to do? Some of us are willing to take time for what is right.
"Sneed wrote the following on June 5th: "Police Blotter: Sneed hears former Police Supt. Phil Cline, who represents the Chicago Police Memorial fund, quietly showed up at the home of slain Police Officedr Alejandro "Alex" Valadez's family Monday."
IF HE WAS SO QUIET,HOW'D SHE KNOW ABOUT IT?
"The move by the Memorial Fund fills in a crack in the system of helping families of policemen killed in the line of duty. NOTHING LIKE THROWING A DIG @ THE 100 CLUB. SNEED, YOU CONVIENENTLY LEFT OUT THE FACT THE 100 CLUB PRESIDENT RALPH SCHEU TAKES ZERO IN SALARY, WHERE AS YOUR BUDDY CLINE TAKES WELL OVER A 100GS A YEAR IN SALARY FROM THE MEMORIAL FUND
THANK YOU TO ALL THE OUTSIDE DEPARTMENTS WHO CAME TO HONOR OUR FALLEN BROTHER. OAK LAWN P.D. DID A WONDERFUL JOB AND THE RESPECT AND HONOR OF ALL THE DEPARTMENTS WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN. THANK YOU. GOD BLESS YOU ALEX.
Beautiful Funeral service today. Want to thank all the Outside Police Agencies and Fire Departments that made the trip to honor our Fallen Hero. On a side note any CPD Officer that was off today and didn't go to the Funeral, SHAME ON YOU!!!
One final comment, while going to the Altar to receive Communion I observed the Deputy Chief of Area Three sleeping on the pew. What a class act by one of our exempt and no he wasn't praying.
To the Valadez Family, My condolences goes out to you specially Adrian. You were a pleasure to work with while you were in 017. Be strong, we are here for you. J.C. 013
What a stunning eulogy Vargas gave for Alex! That was not easy for him, yet he made it so beautiful. It is so apparant that they had a great partnership and a lot of respect for one another. Tom, what a send off you gave Alex. Hang in there buddy.
Question for future reference. I have been update about Officer Valadez' death all week. I have children on the job. I didn't think it was appropriate for people like me to take up space at his service when we're not on the job and we didn't know him. From what is being said here, it sounds like being o the procession route to pay respect might be the best option. Opinions?
Also does anyone know how his girlfriend is doing? As a mother, I can't imagine how to survive burying your son, but also as a mother I can't imagine what she's going through knowing that her child will never know his/her father. She is in my prayers.
I am angry, very angry. I have been okay. I was very sad. But I have been okay. Today as I stood in salute and watched our honor guards remove his body, I cried and cried. The more I cried, the angrier I got.
Lets stop fighting against this idiot who we all know is not going anywhere. Yes, we all know he surrounded himself with idiots, but I can at least say that all 25 District Commanders are the real police. Lets back each other up and support each other instead of dog all newly promotees and any boss we don't care for on any given day. The citizens are reading this too and loosing respect for us each day.
06/06 9:40 "Some of us are willing to take time for what is right." The character that you exemplify in a statement like that is the only thing seperating good people from evil. The Thin Blue Line cannot be bought or dismissed.
Bust Cline's balls all you want and he yes, he did run the dept into the ground with clout but, he always knew a policemans name and said hello. It went a million miles with alot of us.
The look on Daley's face while JFED gave his interview told all. Looked bored, and was not even paying attention. Made me sick. Kept looking away at something else. His suit was there, but it was empty. That man is evil, and he is to blame for the chaos in this city.
This is sad and angry time for all law abiding people.
Rest in peace, brother, and thanks for your service.
And it was a privilege to honor our fallen CPD brother. We likewise acknowledge CPD presence in Kenosha when we lost one of our finest, Frank Fabiano, at the hands of an illegal alien.
29 years and a day said... This may be off topic But I have to chime in here
Im fairly certain that there is only one paid employee at the Police Memorial Fund
Its a PO's wife who does the books and stocks the inventory, mails out the purchases etc
She gets $13/hr which really is fairly resonable
Im not necessarily a fan of Phil Cline but theres no way that he gets $100 K a year for his work at the Fund.
First they dont have it to give him and secondly he doesnt need nor want it
Sorry to ruin this otherwise beautiful thread
Bless Officer Valadez RIP brother

Remember your post, OK? All we have to do is wait a bit longer for the Federal Tax Return of the Memorial Fund to be posted on line at www.guidestar.com As you will see from the 2007 Return, Cline took 43K and that was for 3 months work...You do the math over 12 months. The 2008 Return is not yet posted. I am sure you will be big enough to not only apologize for your misleading statement, but will step up lead an effort to have Cline voted off the Board of the CPMF.
When I returned home today,I took off the Class A's,hung them neatly in the closet for hopefully the LAST time. I hugged my girlfriend and my sons probably harder today than most days. Then I retired ever so slowly to my "office". you know the place. That spot in your house or your apartment that has all the mentions, the awards, the pictures, the plaques, the guns. I took comfort in that big lazy boy I got last year and poured out a metered amount of Adult Beverage(with Ice).I sat a long time staring at the wall, the Chicago Police Star I glommed from an R Man somewhere, and watched as the smoke from my cigar wafted towards the ceiling. I closed my eyes and thought about all the "family" I saw today, the young, the old and those insane enough to work with me.I weighed in my mind the good and bad of this job,its bosses and the shit we have to take from the general public. And I thought of Alex.Finishing the remainder of my drink, i set the glass down and rested the cigar in the ashtray.....and cried.
God Bless you Alex.Though I never knew you,I am feeling this loss. You will be missed, and you WILL be remembered.
Still down here fighting Brother. Save me a place at Roll Call will ya? See you soon.
Give your kids a kiss good night tonight, P.O. Valadez never had the chance to kiss his child... Do it for him and remeber him and how short and sweet this life truely is. God Speed P.O. Alex Valadez
RE: Phil Cline and Police memorial Foundation.. Whatever Cline gets paid he is worth it...He helped raise almost $3million last year for the foundation.. Every Supt has had critics(none as many as present jerk in office) but Cline was one of best..he had our backs... The present administration will go down as absoltely the worst in memory..

She is a Dick's wife and gets paid for a full 40 hour week whether she works 40 or not! She is ripping off the fund as well.
I stopped my contributions when I found out that there are two paid employees and both are ripping the fund off!
Cline should have donated his time to the fund and instead of having a civilian maintaining the store, have one of the Goldstar family members do it. Give the salary to one of them that needs a job, not some dicks wife! Just my 2 cents.
SCC, lingering here now for almost a year has brought me laughs, educated me and this particular thread has brought me tears. This senseless murder of someone who had taken the oath to "serve and protect" me, a citizen, someone he didn't even know has touched me more than you will know. And now I read 6/7/09 3:48 AM and I am in tears again. I did not attend the funeral but the officer was in my thoughts yesterday. In fact, he has been in my thoughts and his family in my prayers since that fateful day. Please SCC, if you hear of a foundation being set up for his son, will you post the information? I would very much like to contribute.
Stay safe and God watch over each and every one of the Chicago Police Dept.

Umm Cline didn't "raise" that. Officers contributions did. Also there a couple other people on the Board who had some major contributors. Cline is there to serve his own agenda it seems.

Actually, the CPMF paid Bill Beach, 1130 S. Michigan Ave. a consultant, $84,000.00 to raise the money. He was a professional fund raiser. By the time Cline took over the Foundation, the money had already been raised. What Cline did do was create a well oiled machine into which he parachuted after his retirement. He draws a six figure salary for allegedly working 40 hours per week. NO SHAME!

R.I.P. God bless, you were way too young. Condolences and prayers
God bless
I hope this isn't out of line. I hope a PO tapes the long procession and the church for us relocated retirees that are following this and mourning with you.
RIP Officer Valadez. May God Bless your Beautiful family and soon to be born Son.
He is missed, we need you guys to stay safe.
God rest A.J.
Thank you to CLTV for airing the funeral for those of us unable to attend due to illness.
Stay safe out there.
My thoughts and prayers are with the family, his colleagues and the citizens of Chicago. It is a loss to all when a hero dies.
Godspeed my Brother! GODSPEED!

May he rest in peace!
how sad
I came early so I can salute and pay my repects to Officer Valadez from the front of the line of the sea of BLUE. It was very touching, and Im glad I brought my sunglasses to hide my tears.
I just cant believe that the ass Alderman Isaac Carothers decided to drive his car, with his dipshit plates that read "IKE" right in the middle of the street that was shut down, awaiting the arrival of Officer Valadez's procession. What a complete ASS!! And better yet, why was he let down the street to begin with?
RIP OFFICER VALADEZ, YOU CAN REST NOW.
My thoughts are prayers are with his girlfriend, their families, friends and fellow officers. I've been thinking of his all day, and the many sacrifices so many officers make.
God bless all of you.
A grateful civilian
saw the mayor, ike the crook corothers and jfraud posing at the funeral. wtf ??
Just got back from funeral .... My heart goes out to his family, fiancé, friends and especially his partner. His partner is a strong person to be able to talk about Alex they way he did. It was a heart warming letter. God help us..... And please let this be the last funeral I attend.
Rest in Peace my brother in blue.
Was it me, or did the Mayor say P.O. Valadez was "a good husband"? Please correct me if I'm wrong...but if that was the case, how embarrasing! I thought he was engaged, not married. Mayor, tell your speech writers to get their facts straight.
Rest in peace, buddy.
Rest In Peace, Young Man. You Are A Hero.
My heart goes out to You and Your Loved Ones.
May God Bless You and Yours.
GRAND CROSSING GUNSLINGER
SADNESS IN OUR HEARTS- GOODBYE AND THANKYOU OFFICER VALADEZ- WE WILL MISS YOU SO MUCH.
it was a very sad day RIP brother in blue. nice words from your partner he is a strong man to stand up and speak and let us know what a great partner he had in you i think you will always be a part of him forever. from a 014 P/O
He soars with the angels now, and he's got your back all the time.
Rest in peace brave warrior. Be safe CPD.
-Suburban Firefighter
well what can I say? What a class act Alex's partner is!! He sure put every other speaker to shame. Quinn at least seemed earnest and truly outraged.
He isn't gone, he's just away.
Outstanding turnout to show respect! many, many, many Departments. THANKS
The Bagpipers and Honor Guard Detail LOOKED PLAYED and PREFORMED flawlessly.
You guys and gals were Fabulous.

The only thing bummer was fat Ike and Bea Cuello standing front and center.
The bartender looks like a troll. And how can the Mayor not have taken Ike's title away from him? For him to stand there in the middle of all those officers with what he has been accused of just demonstrates the audacity of mope instead of hope.
The bagpipes were smokin' Beautiful.
Funeral Blues
Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.
Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He is Dead.
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.
He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong.
The stars are not wanted now; put out every one,
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun,
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the woods;
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

Stay safe!
God Bless. I hope the city takes care of his family.
One of the officers was nice enough to snap a few pics of the cpd cars in procession, the district draped in mourning, and the cfd with the ladder raised:
http://blogintheloop.intheloop.tv/2009/06/06/bow-your-heads-po-valadez.aspx
REST IN PEACE!!!!!!
Something little impressed me, something we don't see often. All along the procession's route to could pick out citizens standing solemnly at the curb, their hands over thier hearts. God sped Alex, a lot cared, and some don't even wear blue.
Thanks to Berwyn and Stickney PD for all the help on Pershing Road and down Oak Park to the cemetery.
I attended the services from beginning to end. I did not realize how long it was until I looked at my watch at 1500 hours.
I was moved to tears by his partner's speech. Absolutrely from the heart.
Thanks to all those who attended, whether family, CPD, outside agencies, neighbors, or citizens.
I will never forget the sorrowful sobbing of Alex's mother today at grave side. What a sad day, but beautifully done. I'm very proud of each and everyone of my brothers and sisters in blue, CFD and suburban officers who attended!!!
GOD BLESS THE CPD and THE VALADEZ FAMILY!!!
Death is nothing at all
I have only slipped away into the next room
I am I and you are you
Whatever we were to each other
That we are still
Call me by my old familiar name
Speak to me in the easy way you always used
Put no difference into your tone
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow
Laugh as we always laughed
At the little jokes we always enjoyed together
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was
Let it be spoken without effort
Without the ghost of a shadow in it
Life means all that it ever meant
It is the same as it ever was
There is absolute unbroken continuity
What is death but a negligible accident?
Why should I be out of mind
Because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you for an interval
Somewhere very near
Just around the corner
All is well.
Nothing is past; nothing is lost
One brief moment and all will be as it was before
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!

God bless all.
SCC,
I was directed to your blog about a year and a half ago by a friend who works for CPD in evidence inventory.
A PART OF AMERICA DIED
by Anonymous
Somebody killed a policeman today,
And a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend alone many long nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
It happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now, his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call and gave us his all,
And a part of America died.
Gov Quinn and Tom Vargas you both have heart.

I would like to point out how courageous Officer Thomas VARGAS was today. His words were beautiful.
I'll see it at 7pm Cal. time on WGN-Chgo news but I was able to catch clips on the net. It looked beautiful w/a big turnout.
I was at the funeral today and was shocked. During the procession I observed several citizens along the route in tears. I also want to thank all the Departments that assisted along the route helping us lay OUR brother to rest. God bless you Alex and God bless your family!
GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY, POLICE OFFICER ALEJANDRO VALADEZ!
Superintendent Weis:
Thank You.
Please try to find out more about this "leader".
Cry "Havoc!" and let slip the dogs of war,
That this foul deed shall smell above the earth
with carrion men, groaning for burial.
The cur have had their time. It is now time to take back the streets, that the good men and women may have peace. It matters not who commands, for when one is gone, another takes his place. The only matter is, do you have the courage to do what is right and just? You asd "What time is it?" I reply, "It is time to pay the Piper."
R.I.P Alex Valadez
OT Kind of----Awhile back I taped a WTTW documentary called Irish Chicago. Tonight I was watching it and there is a segment on Tom Tunney while he is serving a table of people at Ann Sather. One of the people at the table is a Chicago Police Officer who looks an awful lot like Officer Valadez. Anyone know if this is him or someone else? My husband asked me why I was rewinding the tape and when I stopped it before I said anything he said that looks like the officer that just died. So I guess I wasn't imagining it.
Gov. Quinn spoke adequately about Alex calling him a "HERO" in which he was and still is in our hearts.
Officer Valadez out of service.
Rest in peace, young man.
ECS

NOTHING LIKE THROWING A DIG @ THE 100 CLUB.

YOU CONVIENENTLY LEFT OUT THE FACT THE 100 CLUB PRESIDENT RALPH SCHEU TAKES ZERO IN SALARY, WHERE AS YOUR BUDDY CLINE TAKES WELL OVER A 100GS A YEAR IN SALARY FROM THE MEMORIAL FUND

Thank you for your thoughts and kind words.

J.C. 013
there was even a car from Cleveland Ohio with 2 of their PO's.
Nothing illegal should be going in 007, NOTHING!
cleveland pd was there...

This may be off topic But I have to chime in here
Im fairly certain that there is only one paid employee at the Police Memorial Fund
Its a PO's wife who does the books and stocks the inventory, mails out the purchases etc

I am sure you will be big enough to not only apologize for your misleading statement, but will step up lead an effort to have Cline voted off the Board of the CPMF.
oops, that's "www.guidestar.org" (not .com)
What to say?

RIP Alex.
Thank you.

*******
Umm Cline didn't "raise" that. Officers contributions did. Also there a couple other people on the Board who had some major contributors. Cline is there to serve his own agenda it seems.

Actually, the CPMF paid Bill Beach, 1130 S. Michigan Ave. a consultant, $84,000.00 to raise the money. He was a professional fund raiser. By the time Cline took over the Foundation, the money had already been raised. What Cline did do was create a well oiled machine into which he parachuted after his retirement. He draws a six figure salary for allegedly working 40 hours per week. NO SHAME!
