Quinn Gives Away Re-Election
- Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn is sticking by his proposals to raise income taxes even as time runs out to pass a state budget.
Speaking at a Chicago church Sunday, Quinn said people must ``sacrifice'' for others. He says it's important to have a budget in which Illinoisans ``take care of our neighbor.''
Quinn tells reporters the state must raise taxes to maintain services for mental health care, education, and for the poor and the unemployed.
State law says legislators must pass a budget by June 30. Quinn is set to meet with lawmakers Tuesday.
The governor says that if a fair proposal isn't put forward soon, he'll lay out the long-term consequences for the state.
First up, how about Illinois learns how to live within its means?
Second, there's a recession going on and we've been without a contract for two years - that's a lot of sacrifice on our part already seeing as how during that time Shortshanks, Blago and Stroger all jacked up our taxes. Oh yeah, and all of them took pay raises at some point during that two years. Where is the shared sacrifice there?
We're getting damn sick and tired of carrying the politicians dead asses around, all whining about sacrifice, while handing out more and more of our dwindling paychecks to people without the motivation or wherewithall to make their own way in the world.
We hope some of the "consequences" Quinn lays out are some drastic cuts in government. We could do with less of that.

I listened to Quinn's Tax Rally and all I heard were non-taxpayers complaining about being cut off.
The only ones who seem to support the tax hikes, including the 75% income tax hike are the ones WHO DON'T PAY TAXES.
One hispanic woman, a self described single mother with 5 kids told of not being able to get her free day care for her kids. How about this: TRY NOT HAVING 5 KIDS THAT YOU CAN'T AFFORD.
I pay my own way for myself and my family and while I would have loved to have 4 or 5 kids, I knew I had to limit it to two because that is all I could provide for and do it well.
This reminds me of the POS in Tennessee that has 21 children with 10 women and had the balls to complain he only got to take home 1/2 of his paycheck because the State was taking the other 1/2 to support (albeit, not a whole lot of support) those 21 welfare recipients.
Enough is enough and like another poster said, maybe Blago had the right idea.

You can always count on people that don't pay taxes to be at the front of any line or protest that revolves around increasing taxes that workers pay. Let's see, recession means less people paying taxes and these dopes want more money from the remaining taxpayers? I am not spending as freely as I was because prices seem to be skyrocketing on everything I buy. I'm not sure where they get the official inflation numbers from, but it's not from anything real because they keep saying it's 2 or 3% and a loaf of bread is near $4.00. Can you guess why meat, bread and tortillas cost so much now? It's because we are using food to put in our gas tanks. A very inefficient use by the way. It takes more ethanol to power your car than gas, uses more water (I thought we were having a water shortage and we're wasting it to make ethanol?) to make it and it is causing a slight food shortage so supply and demand kicks in and the price of foods goes up.
These politicians we keep electing are screwing us big time. No more incandescent bulbs, they use more energy. Use these florescent light capsules, they save energy! But wait a minute, they are toxic waste, aren't they? Shhhh, no one will notice until we put a surcharge on the disposal of these. Ahhh! Another tax!
These politicians can't control themselves, they just have to give away money, even when there is none to give away. And then after they shaft us by giving away money with these programs they invent, they cry broke and want to raise taxes, these nit wit liberals start yapping about "shared sacrifice".

I/WE (PO'S) have been SACRIFICING for others our whole career! I've worked rotating shifts,steady 3rd watch,steady 1st watch,court on your RDO'S (night dope court),side job after side job.
Most of us working PO'S have experienced this and missed out on family functions,our kids sporting events,Holidays,even the simple things like dinner at home with your spouse and kids or helping your kids with their homework.How about just tucking the kids in at night.Your family makes the sacrifice too.Lets not forget the look on your childs face,or what he/she says ,when you tell him/her you can't be there for his/her school program or anything else that might be very important to them.
And all this we do because we go out there and work hard everyday to provide a proper,decent life for our family.
We're not home waiting for all the free handouts the government has to offer at the taxpayers expense.

This Illinoisan says that we have sacrificed more than our share. I can and do "take care of our neighbor" but on a voluntary basis because it's the right thing to do, not by state mandate.
This is nothing more than a ploy to buy votes. It is WAY past time that we hold our elected officials accountable for doing what is right for the taxpayer, not for the politician. Stroger only raised the sales tax
1 percent. A penny per dolar spent. The total sales tax is 10.25Stroger just REDUCED it to .75 percent of a PENNY!!
The state of Illinois gets 6.25 percent of that overall 10.25. Ask the bankrupt state to give a percent of their money back.
City of Chicago gets 1 percent; RTA gets 1.25 percent. The sales tax is higher downtown becasue daley added a Restaurant tax to fund navy pier and to tax people using downtown
This means that it equates to a PENNY ON EVER DOLLAR SPENT. It DOES NOT INCLUDE spending money on groceries, medicines and YES; COOK COUNT did NOT raise anyones Property Taxes; DALEY RAISED YOUR PROPERTY TAXES!!!!
