Safety Alert
- A person was in custody this morning after allegedly firing at officers who were investigating a shooting on the South Side.
Police said they did not return fire and no one was injured. Officers recovered a 9mm handgun and a M-16 rifle after chasing down the suspect at 6120 S. St. Lawrence around midnight, police said.
Officers were in the area, questioning several people about a previous shooting, when the suspect was seen firing in the officers' direction, police said. The shooter fled in a car, then jumped out and began running, police said.
They either don't know or don't care that police are in the neighborhood and are blazing away with whatever they have. Watch yourself.

I hope they offer a POWER test soon so I can qualify to carry a carbine and level the playing field out there. I wonder what the shithead had to do to be able to carry his?

I disagree with you SCC. Weiss said today that criminals will fear police in uniform and not commit crimes. He stated this at a press conference. Uniform police strike fear in criminals. Curfew enforcement and tac teams in uniform is the answer. Not more police. I am confused?
More and more rifles on the street everyday, screw this power test bull as long as you can shoot well what's the problem. This is not the MARINES where we are running around in the desert. We need help we are out gunned everyday.
I guess the smoke and mirrors and putting everyone in uniform doesn't matter.

Ah, but there's the problem. There seems to be an overabundance of idiots who either wish they had been in the military or wish they still were in the military.
If they want it so bad, they should go back and get it. They'll take you up to the age of forty-two now. Do us all a favor and go and get it out of your systems. J-Fed showed up to an outdoor roll call / free BBQ (hot dogs for everyone) a week ago and stated, "Iknow the police do not fear you like in the past, but we can work with that!"

my partner and I turned a corner. At 58 and may and we saw a guy armed with a sks. He lite up the whole block and shot a guy 2 blocks away. Thank god he lost control of it and killed the trees then had a level 1 malfunction before he could turn it on us, making our squad into our coffin. Long story short bad guy caught sks recovered. I took the power test and have my very own. I will not be out gunned next time.
Same thing happened tonight in 015th District police on a crime scene and some savage starts shooting a block away.
The offender had a AR-15 but did not fire it. A 380 auto was recovered and 45 casings where also recovered but the 45 was never found. As many as 2 additional offenders are believed to have eluded us.
Tons of ciitzens scattered after the shooting broke out so we had no chance to fire back without possibly taking out an honor student or a chronic church goer.
Good thing we where in uniform so that we would establish police pressence. Only thing that did was help us get felony charges past the state.
And from what I heard the classes for the M-4 cert is so back logged that if you applied today you would not get into a class until late 2011 based on the frequency and size of classes being run currently.
I bought a Glock to become my prescribed duty weapon. Tried signing up for the Transition Course but no classes availiable

I thought being in UNIFORM was going to stop this. EVERYONE on that scene was in uniform.
Can the MORONS running this department please step down. We need someone who was the REAL police running the show. Or at least making the decisions.
So what you're saying is that both guns were legally acquired, the owner had a FOID card, and all he's going to get charged with is a misdemeanor..or is there something else I'm missing here?

This is precisely the reason that any officer who wants a rifle on the street should be able to train with and carry one.

What else do you expect from this department?
You know the training staff must be over worked with 50-60 recruits in the academy. They only have about 20 range officers, next you will want them in rotating day-off groups.
Hell, the ranges are closed and we can't requal with alternate weapons.
Now get your ass out there a produce.

So tell me then: If you would have tried to use your rifle at that momnet you would have had enough time to stop, opened the trunck, run to the trunk of your car, unlock your rifle and run back to the offnder and shot him? How long do you think that would have taken? Now compare that time with the seconds that it took for that offender to light up the street? And in the mean time what was your partner going to be doing? Standing next to you saying com'on hurry up! hurry up!"?
Wast of money, waste of training, waste of time.
And if you had your ery own why didn't you use it?
However, in a different view....in some kind of riot or something like that, it might be more useful. In that situation we would have more time to get the rifle ready and in our hands.
Was the offender's rifle fully-auto or was it the civilian semi-auto version?

Its not a waste of money. All I had was my 9 mm running after him through an empty lot after him. He could of cleared the malfunction and waited for me. You can cut the pie all you want and still be screwed at that point. Like I said bad guy caught sks recovered. The best thing I can do is be prepared. You know it's going to take one of us to get shot and killed in this sort of situation. While the riffle sits in the trunk. For them to let us carry and drive around.

There is no such thing as a "full auto" SKS.
I don't see how someone can "lose control" of an SKS.
Did he perhaps have an AK of some sort?
