Sun Times "Reporting"
Silly reporters. They try to get it right, but still have to get their digs in:
A 19-year-old man was shot by Chicago Police Sunday morning on the South Side's Englewood neighborhood after police said he pointed a weapon at an officer.
The "offender" was shot by an officer in the 6400 block of South Wood Street about 11:10 a.m., according to police News Affairs. He was taken with a gunshot wound to the leg to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in good condition.
Tactical officers working in the Englewood District were conducting a directed mission in the area of West 63rd Street and South Honore Street when they attempted to approach a man believed to have a weapon, according to a Chicago Police release.
The Sun Times actually uses the word "offender" in the report, but puts it in quotes so the reader doesn't actually thing the Sun Times is condoning his "offender-ness."
It would seem that the Tact officers were dead on in their assessment that the suspect had a weapon, seeing as how they shot him after the offender pointed it at them and it was subsequently recovered. Good job all around.

Use extra caution, the GD's are claiming they are going to retaliate for the shooting of one of their own by CPD.
Sensationalism to try and sell a barely breathing newsrag. We're not the only one's anymore that know the Sun-Times is controlled by the Daley crew.
so that when the "offender's" "family" calls a lawyer, looking for soemone to sue, the sun-times can say, "we didn't call you an 'offender'!"
i don't think it's hatred of police or anything like that, i think this stuff is driven by fear of getting sued/boycotted, etc.
yeah, yeah,i know,he was fittin to be a doctor right after his enlistment was up in the g.d.nation .so sad.is the mutt, strike that.is the young gentleman gonna be o.k?
It's a start! Sad as it seems...
Outstanding job by all on the scene.
Good job Z.
alleged offender is the term that they should use on shit like this, because the alleged offender is innocent until proven guilty and they will not be categorized as a victim either
I was on scene yesterday and guess what his sista was screaming at the po licees? I shit you not, I am not making this up,
"He didn't have no gun, he was going to the library."
I was going to inform her that CPL's are closed on Sunday's but it would have been like having a discussion with my garbage cans in the alley.
These "reporters" are a bunch of idiots specialy from the scum times "news paper"

Yeah, they're worried about a ghetto boycott of the paper. The only thing keeping them afloat are those readers. When was the last time you saw a paperbox on the corner in any of those neighborhoods?
I saw that too in the Sun-Times "newspaper".
Is there something wrong with, at the very least, calling him a suspect?
I bet he was one of the PFLEGER ANGELS falling from the skies to protect the Englewood residents from the police!
What is next is he going to be awarded another 21 million from the lawsuit?
Next time don't miss boys (shoot 2 kill)
Or maybe the reason was to imply "alleged offender." You know, the whole innocent until proven guilty you keep harping on. Or do you only advocate that for cops?
With one word in quotes, they conveyed what would have taken 7 without quotes, i.e. man the police say had a gun.
You're grasping at straws here.
These "reporters" for the dead tree media aren't up to task.
Soon you'll see these "reporters" unemployed.
If they only asked the TOUGH QUESTIONS, I'd actually buy a paper.
If they actually did some INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISM I'd buy another paper.
Could the suntimes actually be reporting? Time to resubscribe!
Oh come on, it's not sensationalism. They're putting quotes around that word to show it's what police said. Offender means the same thing as criminal, and if a newspaper goes around calling everyone in their crime stories a criminal (even though the majority of them are), they'd get their pants sued off.
Wasn't there the 8th grade graduation photo with cap and gown?
good job officer
The original Trib story had this gem from one of the neighbors: "She said she saw people running after the police yelling "He didn't have no gun, why'd you have to shoot him?"
Her information could not be confirmed."
This passes for reporting these days. Stay classy, Tribune.
When they get some "reporters" who can truthfully write a story from a realistic perspective then they will no longer worry about offending the "offenders"
just who is to blame for this live by the gun mentality? the gun is only a weapon...the mindset of the individual is the key.
Lt. KC is the shit.
Make him Cmdr KC

Since when do these mutts buy a newspaper??? Some can barely read because they can't and won't learn and drop out after 8th grade.

It is a good way to describe it! The similarity is very close, think about it! Well, I hope you were not talking about the blue recycle cans.

yup! Kevin is full of it. Ask him. He'll tell you.
This is the same media that won't name the race of a wanted offender for a heinous crime because they are afraid of the repercussions from Jesse Sr, Jesse Jr and Al
It is hard for the public to help find a suspect if all they have to go on is a Male, 20-30 years old, 6 feet, 180 pounds.
Like the news when they put out that CPD was looking for a suspect in a classic car.
I was once accused of racism because I asked (working in 015, I may add) if the offender was a "Black, White or Spanish guy" As if I was trying to insinuate that the offender had to be black,,,,,
The media, and I include the big columnists are all pussies.
I am intrigued by the phrase, "attempting to approach."??????
It's too bad the copwatch jagoff wasn't down on 64th and Wood to document the animal pulling a pistol on the police..
