The Great Soap Caper

An amusing west side tale:
  • A Chicago Police captain chased and apprehended a man who allegedly tried to steal boxes of hotel soaps from a semi truck early Friday on the West Side.

The captain was patrolling an area near South Cicero and West Fifth avenues -- just south of the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) -- when he saw a man who appeared to be stealing from a parked semi truck about 3:15 a.m., police said.

The captain confronted the man, and eventually pepper sprayed him when he used a chain to avoid being handcuffed. The man then attempted to flee, but the captain captured him about a block away, police said.

Further investigation revealed the truck was carrying boxes of hotel soaps, according to police, who said truck thieves often don’t know what the trucks are carrying ahead of time.

Captains making arrests is one thing. Stealing hundreds of bars of soap? Why?

Laid-Off Drivers Protest City Shift To Private Firms
July 31, 2009 11:33 PM
About 60 recently laid-off Chicago truck drivers picketed Friday at a city facility on the South Side, protesting that politically connected private companies are now doing work public employees performed for Mayor Richard Daley's administration.

The protesters were among 141 drivers fired last month in a cost-cutting move after their union refused to accept unpaid furlough days and a reduction in overtime pay.

So, whats this going to cost the city in legal fees to fight the inevitable lawsuits for wrongfully firing all these city employees???

OT . . .April city hall laid off over 400 truck drivers and last month threatened to layoff another 400 if the unions did not buckle under his demands.

Yesterday at the truck barn on south Western ave. over 60 drivers where out pickiting because the city just hired a couple hundred drivers from a "PRIVATE" firm. who's firm don't know but still digging I am sure connected to the Daley Crime Family.

Nobody out their said they knew this was coming, one driver said a friend of his still working called them. They then called their union which has YET TO CALL THEM BACK! If the King has his way he is now showing his hand! He needs to break ground right away for the OLYMPIC VILLAGE!

Going private and NON-UNION TRUCK DRIVERS with no benefits. No more worries like union dues or contracts, NO medical, NO pensions NO vacations all gone to pay some X-gangbanger $8.25hr from progressive truck driving school that our taxes paid for for them to go to school after they dropped out of high school.

AND YOUR UNION AGREED TO THIS, BOY DID THEY SCREW YOU GUYS! WHO'S NEXT!

OT: Dear Scc I have a thought. I would like to start a letter writing campaign. There are numerous points, thoughts, and concerns brought up on here everyday. We also know that the brass reads the blog even though they deny it and try and say that you are insignificant. J-fed has stated on more than one occasion that he is open to our ideas, or that he would resign if he knew we thought he wasn't doing a good job. We all know it is a bunch of lies. Anyway, here is my idea. Just once have the readers write a letter of their concern. Be professional and have a legit concern. Merit promotions, CPD policy. It can be whatever they want it to be. People spend some energy to write here everyday. We organized a march and that was great but time consuming. You could put it out to the readers. Give everyone like a week or two to write a letter. I know we are all busy in the summer but it could be a paragraph only if they wish. Here is the good part. Pick a day several weeks from now and we all mail it on the same day. It would be nice if he was inundated with several hundred (insignificant voices) all sounding off simutaneously through our letters. I imagine they would all arrive within a few days of each other. It doesn't even matter if he reads all or any of them. I am not nieve enough to believe it will change anything but it would send a strong message. It would allow the troops to express their words and remain anonymous. I would love to hear the buzz from the tower or even in the media about J-fed got sent several hundred letters from the rank and file expressing their concerns. Let ourvoices be heard. I for one am absolutely (J)fed up with this organization. The only direction we are headed is South. There is no leadership and the rules are different for everyone. I say we write the letters, mail them out on the same day, and see if we get an ounce of concern. Thanks for your blog and thanks for the allowing the rant. Let's see what the readers think. Signed: (J) Fed up

I guess that's why the Teamsters union let their City employee truck drivers get laid off... they knew that the Union wouldn't take a hit since the private trucking company would need to hire drivers for their new contract with the city. It's a ponzi scheme with jobs instead of money, (which ultimately means money in the pockets of the Daley and Burke Crime Families)!

While I realize that officers roll their eyes and gaze at me askance when I enter the station, I must clarify and recalibrate my meteoric rise within the ranks of the CPD.

For those jealous and cynical reprobates that attribute my success to political clout, if not bribery and performing "favors" for the politicians and the brass, how wrong you are.

It's all about hard work and study and my experiences working in the jaws of death as "the REAL PO-leese".

I drew much of my motivation from a former partner, "Senora Sherlock". Her words still inspire me to this day. Maria once said "I would hope that a wise Latina woman, with the richness of her experiences, would more often than not" provide the best possible leadership for the troops in a bloody shithole like Fillmo'.

As a female minority , her profound wisdom continues to make me all warm and fuzzy inside.

If you emulate me and attain my legendary reputation as a street cop, you too will succeed by making hundreds, even over a thousand Part I felony arrests on the mean streets of the ghetto and studying harder for the promotional "process". It's all legit. To believe otherwise is just "acting stupidly".

Now how about another carafe of Kool-Aid?

Geez...

I wished they would have spoke directly to the Captain before putting that out... lol.

The Captain observed a 18-wheeler strike a motor scooter (offender's vehicle).

When he stopped to investigate, he learned the truck driver (victim) was "maced" by the (arrested) offender when he confronted the him and another offender who were working together to break into the parked trailer and steal cargo.

After being maced by the offender, the truck driver jumped into his truck and was fleeing the scene for his personal safety. His trailer clipped the offender's scooter, as it was parked in front of his rig.

That is when the Captain rolled up.

The (arrested) offender resisted arrest and was OC'd by Captain when he raised a broken chain from his scooter as a weapon to strike the Captain. He fled on foot (running out of his shoes) with the Captain in pursuit. The offender was apprehended by the Captain and assisting units.

It was later learned that the cargo being taken was a box of hotel soap.

The Captain stayed through the entire arrest and investigation process... and then attended a scheduled court appearance at 1300 hrs.

OT-

FAST FOOD KILLS -- Six shot on West Side outside fat gang member's funeral; further retaliation guaranteed as "witnesses on the scene were not cooperating with police."

"The shooting happened around noon outside the Gospel Truth Life Changing Ministries, 5301 W. Madison St., in the South Austin neighborhood. Kilmer said a group of mourners were gathered outside of a funeral service at the church for a 'self-admitted' gang member.

The service was for 28-year-old Cornelius Robinson, of the 1200 block of North Cicero Avenue, who died... of obesity and heart trouble."

Shortly thereafter another 'soap opera' occurred.
Offenders broke into the rear of another semi trailer of supplies also destined for the same hotel under construction just south of the loop.
The offenders grabbed large boxes from the trailer and began loading them into their pick-up truck. All the boxes contained American Standard brand toilets.
A passing Deputy, who really knows his shit, saw the suspicous activity and apprehended the subjects. The ASA would not approve charges as the hotel would not sign complaints since.... "they had nothing to go on!"

SCC, after all your years on the job, don't you realise that people will steal anything? It doesn't matter what value it has or if it is useful, they'll steal anything.
