Car Troubles

  • It's a perk that is costing Illinois taxpayers billions of dollars: government-owned cars. You see them all over the road. They either have an 'M' or 'U' on their license plates.

Some lucky government employees even take their cars home or use them for vacation, but as CBS 2 [...] and the Better Government Association uncovered, taxpayers may be the ones being taken for a ride.
If Channel 2 hadn't been lying down on the job for the past 20 years along with the rest of the media, this situation wouldn't have gotten as out-of-control as it's been. Now they can shoot fish in a barrel and claim it's good journalism. Idiots.

You gotta admit that guy Wednesday night literally went too far. He drove the M-plate car all the way to Florida and back. Then, he let the reporter make a fool of him. He should have told the reporter, "If you have any questions, put them in writing and mail them to my office." You can't let these reporters gain the upper hand. You gotta turn the tables on them.

Soooo, if I’m a superintendent of a large police department, does this mean I can’t take my big black company SUV out to Evergreen Park, with one of my buddies in his big black company SUV, just for dinner?

Best quote from my wife: “My God hon, his head is HUGE, like freakishly huge, that’s not normal!”
Just think, there aint much in it either!

NEWS FLASH OFF TOPIC

SCC,

In the times we are in this just tops the cake. This week I was at Medical Services Section. Everything was all messed up per usual. My bills have not been paid in over a year. Took 6 times for the MSS to actually submit the bills. Sources say there were multiple fist fights invollving both the sworn and civilian staff members which resulted in the stripping of several officers. Sources also say there was actually a 10-1 called it was so out of control. Meanwhile us in the office in dire needs of refferals were left on the backburner. Just business as usual in the CPD

Another concerned Coppur

Say what you want about the take home cars but please do not put the plate numbers in the comments section.

Our problem is plain and simple we CANNOT stick together, it is pathetic.

On the saem thought why do SVU Lt.'s get takre home cars? In my opinion nly first responding personnel in units should be allowed to take home a car. NO EXCEPTIONS. There is absolutely no reason that anybody from R and D needs a take home car.

Hey if you want to save money start by taking away the cars from political hacks who do nothing.

The city should offer a $50 bounty on ALL license plates turned in that are driving out-of-state.

This could be a new segment on the typically boring local news (ABC, CBS, NBC - take your choice)

Personal use abuse? No - theft of services (and gas)! Lose your job and see what you find in this economy.

It could be like the LOTTO segment on WGN. Get some film of some idiot driving around the Dells or Lake Geneva or whatever.

It's a two-edged sword having those M plates out front of he house. I like that it appears a cop is always around, even when he's away for the weekend, as the car sits on the street.

It could be true. Several years ago they had M plates. It wasn't until recently that they started to give them regular plates on thier take home cars. I to hav seen them when I am at my place in Mich or visiting friends in Wisc. But you need to then look th see if they have a City of Chicago vehicle sticker to see if they belong in Chicago. I use to see them heading towards South Bend on Saturday mornings years ago also.

And didn't SOS employees get fired a few years back for doing plate searches on lists of luxury vehicles requested by the outfit in order to find out where the cars were registered so the information could be used to rob the houses?
