PPO Exempts? Exempt PPOs?

Something popping up in the comments about Commanders are going to be dressing up in the blue jeans uniform of the day, strapping on the leather gloves and slicking back their hair and working tactical missions?

Whose bright idea is this?

The vast majority of bosses don't even know what handcuffs are for, let alone using them. Lord help the poor PO that's going to have to FTO these people through AIRA, CLEAR, Automated Arrest, the Hot Desk, name checks, contact cards and who knows what else. Make sure each and every boss gets an opportunity to go to Court for PC hearings.

Just make sure no one shows them the shortcuts.

ITs a"back to the streets" for exempts. Commanders and above going once a week on the streets with "partner" aka their driver. You should see the pressed and barely worn uniforms of some. They have no clue wat they are doing.

Now hold on, SCC!

Maybe it's about time these CLOWNmanders found out what it's like being a cop in a department that is undermanned, out-gunned, ill-equipped, and otherwise running without a sense of direction or leadership! Lord knows the Bubblehead Fed is incapable of righting this ship. When he's gone, one of these PPO Exempts may be called on to take over. Better one who has had a refresher course than one who has totally forgotten where he came from!

I hope jody told them they have to come in with 5 parkers, a mover and a head. But I imagine the tact guys will get a head and the exempts will jump on the paper.

I don't think it's totally a bad idea. Most of these exempts haven't seen the street in years, maybe even decades. Let them figure out how to do a case report, complaint, arrest report, etc. I highly doubt that will happen though. I would guess there will be plenty of warrant arrests.

Someone set fire to a piece of paper mache in the daley plaza tuesday night. The city claims that this paper mache logo of the olympics that was torn down had cost the city $8,500.00. After this local issue is settled with the vandals maybe there should be a federal indictment against the city and manufactor of the paper logo.

And people wonder why citizens don't want these Olympic Games. When these games are over (if we are unfortunte enough get them) how many con-men will be in jail?

Hey SCC, help us out here. We heard Officer Cole is supposed to come back to Chgo. the first week in Oct. That sounds like great news, except where will he be living at? We heard in the beginning that the city was going to build a house for him, but nobody seems to know about this. A couple of his friends that went to Colorado to see him said he has so much equiptment besides a 24 hour care giver that they thought you putting this out there might help him. Lets face it, he needs the "real police" to be his voice. We can't let the city drop the ball on this. We sure as hell would want somebody looking into this for us. Thanks SCC for all you do. I have seen some commanders work hard and show some street sense. When I worked for Billy Batts in six it seemed like he was always on the street. Commander Batts was the real police and a hero in my eyes. I remember calling a 10-1 at Foster Park and the first car that responded to the scene was Billy Batts followed by some cars from Gang Crimes South. I found out Commander Batts was a judo expert. He took one of the offenders by the wrist and flipped him right over his left shoulder and then cuffed him up. He then read the guy his rights and told me to lock him up. Thats a true story. Boy it would be swell if Billy Batts or even Captain Bells from nine came back on this job. I worked in nine before getting dumped to six by FDR for writing the wrong person a parker. In nine I saw Captain Bells respond to a few calls. You could hear his booming voice a mile away saying "lock dat jo up right now". Don't get me started talking abaout Captain Rice in seven. He was another very smart almost like a PhD, but no nonsense boss.... Well I'm retiring in 3 months and 8 hours. I got certificates from gang courses taught by both Pat McCarthy, and Jerry Simandl. That has set me up for my post CPD career. There is never too much schooling. I'll be living in a low cost retiree friendly environment in Egypt, Mississippi and working part time as a patrol consultant for the police department. It sure has been a fun ride as a patrolman. I never seen the inside of a unit unless I was there to pick up a prisoner to put in the truck but I've worked with some good guys.

OFF TOPIC: it appears that the early retirement program might not make its quota.....so now what?

9/30/2009 03:55:00 AM

Those that put in for it can revoke their retirement papers within the next 15 days (Oct 15). The first round needed 160 officers (November 1 2009 to March 30 2010) or leave them in and retire without the paid medical.

The next round (1 April 2010 to Dec 31 2010) needs 130 officers to put in their papers by 31 Dec
2009, to get the free medical.
If the number is short, same thing, leave w/o medical or wait another year.

Second guess YOUR handling of it? Maybe they'll stay in their office catching up on gossip and paperwork? Smoke and mirrors....a feeble attempt to give exempts the "illusion" of caring, of being "one of the boys"? Not falling for it.

Just some "busy" work for the exempt and more smoke and mirrors.

This move is an insult to us Beat officers,

Alrighty then...

If they want to come out of the yard and play with the big kids, then good. A little shared sacrifice is wonderful. Though not to sound too vicious or callous (meh fuckit... we lie and we admit it) perhaps after a few of these exempts get dented going hands on with dude, get blown up in a car wreck or have some other really bad shit that "only happens to blueshirts" happen to some of them maybe they would cease with the "sucks to be you office" mentality so many of them have.

How about it exempts? Bleed and feel pain like we have. Get those stitches & broken bones, donate some skin to the pavement, have asshole ed burke deny YOUR iod claims. Who knows? Maybe there'll be some additional gold stars hanging in the display case after all is said and done? Why should the blueshirts make all the sacrifices and reap little benefit? Share our pain!

Oh sorry... you're exempts after all. You happily sit in judgement and monday morning QB the peed on peons in Patrol who have sacrificed way too much on this job. Only a small handful of you have ever remotely been the working Police. The rest of you are frauds not worth the ink on your applications for employment.

Now perhaps we get to see who is made of stern stuff and who the poseurs are... Maybe j-fart is crazy like a fox for putting them in this position... We'll see who fights and who curls up in the fetal position/assumes the doggy style position or runs and locks themselves in the car... We await reports from the field.

First off, I think it's a cynical move to ask the exempts to take 24 days, or is it 27, unpaid next year and pull their chains some more to have them ride around playing beat car. I would bet they are, to a man, pissed off about it. That truly is where they can identify with us: We're pissed off too. If that is the point of the exercise it will succeed magnificently. But, or should I say secondly, they'll find that there is no easier, more enjoyable, and sincerely rewarding, thing to do on this job but ride around, be the police, and like (hopefully) who your partners are. There's another dynamic to point out; they're all in the same lifeboat together, against the waves. Out of that will come the next regime. Is it more likely, than not, that the coming leadership will seek to protect the troops from the abuse inflicted on them? That they will see the damage, real damage, that this department is undergoing and act to not let it happen on their watch? From that standpoint, it will be a good thing. Let's us and them, call it bullshit when we see it, or smell it. I'd be happy to say to them on the street: "Got your back, boss."

Now think about this scam, Put admin personnel back on street during the day, not the nights and tell them to basically do nothing. That really stopped some crimes.
