Was it a year or two ago?
Aldercreature Ed Smith had a next door neighbor whose house burned to the ground. Total loss. And firefighters or responding police units had to wake Smith from a sound sleep to evacuate his house as it smoldered. Might have saved his life. We bet they worked like hell to save his building, too.
What if that cop or that firefighter was on an "Ed Smith sponsored furlough day?"
You'd think Ed would be a little more appreciative of the people who saved his life and his property.

What a shame that It is necessary to remind the jerk about what police and fire did for him.

I would rather take days off and see what happens to the city.
How many honor students killed, how many people dying because fire was too short to do their ambulance assists, how many of us will get injured being shorthanded and calling for back up?

I would expect nothing different from him. These guys have no shame. Yesterday, Ald Danny Soliz, Daley's point man in the Hispanic community, walked into the city health clinic on 18th & Ashland and jumped to the front of the line to get his grandchild both the seasonal and H1N1 flu shots.
Gee, Danny. With all the cash you clowns make from your part-time gig and all your other "business ventures" and a sister in the White House, couldn't you leave those free shots for the less fortunate?

Wouldn't make a difference. If that would have happened and Ed's house got damaged or burned to the ground you can bet you'd see him on TV screaming as to WHY it happened!
WHY didn't the fire dept. get there sooner?
WHY didn't the police notice the smoke while on patrol?

Ed Smith is a direct reflection of his constituents. He calls the tact office in 011 constantly bitching about dope sales. He is a piece of work. They were selling dope right across from his office and he would not allow officers to use his office for surveillance. When there were all the problems at Garfield Park he would not put no parking signs around the park for almost a year to help his own constituents. He is a piece of shit he wants all the police service but doesn't want to pay us. Fuck you Ed. I am so glad I hung up on your ass when you called 011. Fuck You
Actually a fireman broke his leg at that fire when the whole second floor collapsed on him, two feet in either direction and he could have been killed. It seems there were some squatters living in that abandoned house that would have made it rather difficult for Alderclown Smiff to sell his house, considering what it looked like from the street. Then miraculously the house burns down and is torn down within two days and about a week later Smiffs house goes up for sale with a nice clean lot next door to replace the garbage strewn bums next door. Very mysterious indeed.
The good citizen is already complaining about response times just imagine. ..........LOL

Saw Ed Smith at the wake of Francis and Taylor. He really respects the police and fire but has been having his strings pulled by the Short One. It's to bad hes got small ones to tell short One to #%&K off.

In general, this whole "wired-up" society is actually on a sort of Big Disconnect as things deteriorate. Everybody on the cell phone talking to someone else somewhere else -- instead of to the person next to them -- or drowning things out altogether with an Ipod.
I remember one time looking up an arterial street here, to see a HUGE cloud of smoke in the distance. Plane crash? Major fire? Al Quaida attack? Chinese nuke Milwaukee?
We are talking "towering into the stratosphere" here. We are talking "check the wind and see if whatever that is is coming this way."

I couldn't even get anyone around me to even acknowledge my existence, let alone look where I was pointing. They'd all sort of pull their heads down between their shoulders like turtles and speed up walking.

I think we should cut the alderman's slush funds for running their offices by 90 percent. No more paying college tuitions, high end luxury vehicle leases or vacatioszn with office funds
