Another Daley Miracle

Old Man Daley left Shortshanks a handful of magic beans. When planted, they grew a beanstalk up to the sky. When Shortshanks climbed the beanstalk, he found a magical castle in the sky occupied by a giant. While the giant slept, Shortshanks used his prodigious thieving skills learned at the knee of the old man and stole gold, food, a Singing Harp that sang "Danny Boy" when it got loaded and a goose that laid golden eggs.

Evidently, the goose just crapped another golden egg:
  • A perennial consultant at O'Hare Airport has been awarded a $3.7 million contract to plan for a project major airlines are refusing to fund and consider "ill-conceived": a new western terminal.

Landrum & Brown has dominated the O'Hare planning landscape for decades, raking in nearly $80 million worth of no-bid business during Mayor Daley's 20-year administration. Now the Ohio company will plan for a range of possibilities for the new western terminal that nobody but the city seems to want.

Let's see, they've gotten $80 million in no-bid contracts, they're getting another $3.7 million, the City evidently has money to build another terminal at O'Hare that no airline wants (meaning there's another $250 million minimum lying around somewhere to fund this thing) along with attendant people movers, parking lots, and amenities.

But the city is broke? Shortshanks doth protest too much

This is off the subject but I was wondering how big a story it would be if the Tribune investigated how candidates are nominated and selected for the U.S. Military acadamies. I know it's though but, I believe Daley's boy as well as another 11th ward hack and Deputy Chief "Hot wheeles" Keating's boy both were admitted to West Point. I wonder who else get's admitted. Just think the Tribune may save the U.S. like it saved Illinois. "Wheeles up"

WORTH READING, posted comment in sun-times:

mindus wrote:
Well lets see how much Daley's already spent outside the budget, meaning money he doesn't have that YOU will end up paying for either in next year's budget or by taking money away from other collected taxes that should be used for other city services that you'll end up having to pay for anyways when he has to raise taxes somewhere else to pay for what he took out of other collected taxes:

3.7 MILLION to an OHIO company, people who don't contribute to local economy, to study something the airlines don't even want. These peope can't even vote so they must just be friends of Daley.

1 MILLION so the no income westsiders can heat the great outdoors all winter, and register to vote in 2011

1.4 Million taking care of homeless people, who've been here all along, by using city personnel to fing them, feed them, force them into shelters they don't want to go to, and make sure theyr'e registered for 2011.

2.1 Million to buy new police dispatch consoles that they already spent 480 thousand on to "fix", AFTER spending another 2.5 Million on the contract fiasco that happened just before spending the 480 thousand.

So: 1+3.7+1.4+2.1 = 8.2 MILLION DOLLARS he's already spending of YOUR money that he doesn't have, and isn't included in the "2010 Budget". If you're wondering why that's in parenthesis it's to outline the fact that his budget is a "fabrication" that has no bearing on how much he actually intends to spend beyond what he alleges in his "budget". So in reality, his "budget" is merely a "story" he's required to file in an attempt to make him "look" like he's holding the line on spending, when in "reality" we aren't even close to STARTING the year 2010 and he's already going to spend 8.2 MILLION DOLLARS in money he doesn't have, because he's going to spend it now and run the city back into the red once more, or force YOU to pay higher taxes and fees to cover his pre 2010 spending spree.

All this, in Nov 2009, and "we're broke baby". So broke we have to fire how many city employees? We have to force how many employees to take a MONTH of of work UNPAID? We're attempting to intimidate an arbiter in the last and largest city contracts with unenforceable statements of refusing to acknowledge an arbiter's deceision to issue that union a raise commensurate with what ALL other city employees have received in the same time frame or what other large police & fire unions have received?

Yes we're broke, because it's contract time and this year many lambs had to be sacrificed to make the "we're broke" story appear legitimate. I'm sorry all the AFSCME had to be a part of Daley's ficticious "story building" process. I'm sorry for those people who are exempt from any protection from a scumbad like Daley who stole your wages back from you by forcing you to take a MONTH off of work without pay just so he can construct his grand scam story of how "broke" the city is in hopes of convincing the arbiter of the largest city contracts that Daley's just an honest mayor acting responsible, which any attorney living anywhere near this city knows is far from reality.

So, Daley's already putting taxpayers on the hook for 8.2 MILLION DOLLARS and 2010 hasn't even started yet.

Anyone care to guess just how much MORE he's gonna spend of YOUR money OUTSIDE the 2010 "budget" fabrication before the year is done?

But, we're broke folks, so there's nothing to see here... move along.... and remember to pay your taxes.... AND VOTE.

Ticket-writing indictment dismissed against Chicago cop
November 4, 2009 11:07 AM | No Comments
A Cook County judge today dismissed the indictment against Chicago Police Officer John Haleas, the officer accused of writing numerous false drunken driving tickets.

Judge James Obbish ruled that prosecutors improperly used statements given by Haleas to Internal Affairs investigators looking into misconduct charges against him. Police union rules prohibit statements from administrative disciplinary proceedings from being used against officers in criminal cases.

-We all knew it would end like this, but this guy, a good cop, had to get beat down for doing police work. I'm going to be all yellow by the end of the year. It will take time for me to get used to being useless, but I'm on my way. Need to live up to Mealer's expectations of police work.

By Larry Yellen, FOX Chicago News

Chicago - Chicago police officer Michael Shields is a trustee on the police pension board. He was upset when he learned that Supt. Jody Weis and three of Weis' top aides are members of the police pension fund.

“This isn't personal. This is business. This is about our pension fund, and that's all it is,” Michael Shields said.

Shields said Weis and his aides work in exempt, appointed positions, so unless they were previously Chicago police officers, they can't join the fund.

“He was never a policeman in our fund, therefore he goes right to superintendent, and he's not allowed to be in our fund,” Shields explained.

It takes ten years for pension contributors to vest in the plan, but Shields said after three years, the superintendent could essentially buy his way in, and later collect a pension based on a salary, which is now $310,000.

“That’s just too high of a salary for them to come into our pension fund and someday collect a pension,” Shields said.

Weis was off on a furlough day Friday, but his spokesperson said there was never any secret plan for the superintendant and his top aides to quietly become members of the police pension plan.

Spokesperson Roderick Drew said the top brass had no idea whether they belonged to the police fund, or the general municipal fund, and had never heard of the three year buy-in.

Why do we have budget problems? Because the idiots that run this city and department.

R. Hamilton “detailed” to the Superintendent’ Office from the Academy was mysteriously promoted last year (during these rough times) to a Legal Officer II; therefore, although he is the rank of a Sergeant, he receives Lieutenant’s pay which is pensionable. Wait WTF? He is not even assigned to Legal Affairs (like anyone should be paid higher than their rank); he is assigned to the Academy.

During these rough economy times, why in the world would the Police Department promoted people out of grade. Would R. Hamilton declined the request to work in the Superindent's Office and return to the Academy if he pay was taken away? How did this happen? Mike Masters.

Two people could have been promoted to Detective instead of this clout farce promotion.

Before money is taken money is taken out of our pockets, R. Hamilton should immediately be returned to Sergeant’s pay.

Question to the Sergeant’s Association, should all members of the rank of Sergeant at the academy, who have a law license, file a grievance? Does the city pay for the registration fees as well?

I can't believe that the city unions aren't screaming and protesting and marching on City Hall after so many people got fired and so many more had their livelihoods affected by significant pay cuts through forced furlough days and other concessions.

Since the city cried poor and began laying off city employees they have been squandering hundreds of millions of dollars everywhere from an unsuccessful bid for the 2016 Olympics to giveaways to the homeless and the people who refuse to work or pay to heat their homes. They've made ridiculous payments for questionable services (dead body removals for one), spent 10's of millions to move United Airlines into Sears Tower, millions to rehab Sears Tower, forgiven millions in taxes for certain "special" corporations and so on and so on.

But let's be clear here that the REAL Mayor of Chicago is pulling all of the strings on all of this stuff. Thats right kids, it ain't the stuttering prick... It's the old guy behind the curtain who holds all the purse strings for the city, none other than the head of the Finance Committee, (and the other user of the CPD Chauffeurs' and Man Servants' Unit), Ed Burke.

The Inspector General's office wants Daley's top lawyer, Mara Georges, to hand over certain documents kept by her office relating to a no-bid contract that was awarded in 2006 to a former city worker.

City needs money? How about advertising on sides of police vehicles? Or instead of a raise, cops could rent out the backs of their vests for adds.

Just not Target, ok?

That new western terminal will have Express Trains from the CTA
(Block 37 Express Terminal) that run on Secret Imaginary Tracks, that nobody can see!

It's all very High Tech. stuff!

All paid for by secret express money from the city pension funds!
Oh Crap, I wasn't suppose to say that!

MotorMan Phil!

"Before money is taken money is taken out of our pockets, R. Hamilton should immediately be returned to Sergeant’s pay."

You forgot to mention the take home car and overtime he gets each week. Someone should notify the Inspector General's office.

The shirt I saw at the uniform store said it all about this city: " Welcome to Chicago, if our taxes don't kill you, our honor students will!"

Someone on the pension board should look into Mike Brady who took a leave of absence from the C.P.D twenty some years ago to become Mike Sheehans personnell driver with Cook County and still managed to pay into our pension while on leave and made eligible to collect a pension. Not a bad deal.Another political hack sweetheart deal

The miraculous windfall of money they didn't know they had, that they just found, usually doesn't come until AFTER the contract gets done. Someone is jumping the gun by spending what they don't have before we get our overdue contract. I sure hope that doesn't upset the midget too much, or he might have to lay off more working people to show how broke the city is.

This golden money that the idiot craps has to be coming from either grant money or the TIFs that are nowhere near O'Hare. Either way, I'd bet a box of bagels that the money is misappropriated.
