How Many Signatures?

  • After months of saying he is likely to run for Cook County Board president, U.S. Rep. Danny Davis hedged his bets today by indicating he'll file paperwork that will preserve his option to seek re-election to Congress.

Davis said today that he plans to turn in nominating petitions for his 7th Congressional District in addition to the ones he's already filed for county board president.
"I am driving to Springfield, Illinois tomorrow," Davis said as he left an anti-violence rally in the Lawndale neighborhood. "I'm going down there with six or seven thousand signatures."

While Monday is the deadline to register to get on the primary election ballot, candidates have until Nov. 9 to drop out of a campaign. For the time being, Davis said he will remain in both races.
So to run for the US Congress, Danny Davis, police-hater and weasel, has to file 5,000 signatures or so.

But for citizens of Chicago to get a referendum on the ballot, we have to collect a minimum of 121,600 valid signatures (and probably twice that to survive challenges).

Does anyone see something wrong with this system? After all this is said and done, maybe we'll see if we can't run a few dozen coppers for aldercreature or congressweasel. If Danny Davis can do it, we're pretty sure regular people can do it.

He going to drop out in due time and endorse the toddler. This is all just a political ploy all planned from before. He never had any intent to run for the toddlers spot.

We've been forced to live under a double standard for way too long.

I often wonder how many of our current officer holders (county, city, state......) would seek the offices if the grand opportunities for Graft, Kickbacks, Bribes, etc were not there??

Can you imagine a City Council that was honest & transparent enough that they would not enact an ordinance forbidding the Inspector general to investigate/look into their activities ?

Too many elected officials are just self serving, pompus asses only interested in how much $$$$ they can amass from their time in office and hopefully not get too stupid & get caught & sent to Club Fed.

Davis needs only 5,000 signatures, anyone not part of the machine needs 120,000 +

What positive thing has the city council done lately, not counting voting themselves a raise and increasing their yearly expense funds ????

Illinois Land of Corruption !!!! (sorry Mr. Lincoln)

There are significantly FEWER dopes needed to perpetuate the fraud named Danny Davis in one congressional district than in a citywide proposed referendum. The system is valid. Sucks, but valid.

SCC,

There is already a police officer running for Cook County Board President, Lt. John Garrido from 025.

How about putting your money where your mouth is and back his candidacy. If the entire Chicago Police Department and their families were to pull a Republican ballot in the primary and vote for him, he would hands down win against his opponent.

You asked for an officer to step up and run against the corrupt machine. John Garrido has put his neck on the line and done just that.

Now is the time to put aside any personal greviences anyone may have with him. By backing Lt. Garrido, we can show that we are an effective voting block that makes a serious impact on an election. Lets get the word out and help get him elected!

The whole system is a scam to keep incumbents in office. You can't run against an incumbent without getting twice the amount of signatures from the district and if you're not affiliated with either party, it's 3 times the signatures.

ACORN, HDO and all these other bogus "community" organizations are fronts for the democRAT machine. They scare, lie and trick people into signing these petitions to keep these asshole rats in office, then they are rewarded with jobs and contracts.

Fuck this city. Fuck shortshanks, toddler, the hair's replacement and obamessiah; they're all from the same rotten mold.

I understand Manny Flores (1st Ward) Alderman is considering running for Mayor. The race would interesting. The race would pit a hispanic, who is well liked against Mayor Daley. The chance Flores could garner votes from every community contingent an African-American candidate did not enter the race is great. He is well liked, an attorney, hispanic in a diverse ward, and he is a friend of the police.

Good Luck Manny - what ever you decide to do!!!

You don't have to post this, but I do have a suggestion to make. If you do fall short in the number of signatures needed, announce that you were only "several hundred short". This strategy will leave the politicos scratching their heads wondering how powerful the movement was. Then, announce that the movement will begin again prior to the next election with much more time to collect the required amount.

If, for some reason, there is not a Daley on the ballot running for Mayor, every rotten politician in the state of Illinois will crawl out from under their rocks to get their names on the ballot! That would include a slew of African-American candidates looking for the money and power ya just can't get as a state senator, state rep, or alderman.

Hell, you might even see Jesse Jackson Sr. running against Jesse Jackson Jr. running against Mrs. Jesse Jackson Jr.!

And don't think the ballot wouldn't include an array of Hispanic names the likes of which you'd find on the membership roster of the Chicago Mariachi Society!

Whoever is dropping Flores' name here is just getting a jump on the field that will fill up like the Chicago marathon if Daley retires!

Seriously, for all the naysayers of this effort...by collecting all these signatures is a show of force, a voter base that is willing to take a stand now AND in future elections.

every citizen who objects to the politicians who are gauging the taxpayers/small businessesw while living decadent, self-indulgent public lifestyles should sign this petition.

in fact, all small businesses should have petitions available to sign so their customers have a way of showing their frustration of all the f***king taxes and high prices they are being forced to pay...a way to object to the pay meters & their exorbitant prices.

it begins with one signature, IT BEGINS WITH YOUR SIGNATURE!

SCC,

If you're successful in this referendum endevour, I won't be surprised to see the politicians increase the 121K signature requirement to 250K immediately thereafter or eliminate the provision of referendums alltogether. I hope collecting 121k plus valid signatures is a success.

If there is one thing those suckholes do really well it is co-opting the peoples influence in government.

You know, like the so called "reform" legislation passed the other week that capped individual political contributions but allows the Republicrat and Democrat parties to make unlimited cash contributions to candidates.

I guess if it wasn't incredibly difficult to get a referendum on the ballot we'd see referendums all the time, like:

"Shall the City of Chicago, County of Cook, State of Illinois recommend that elected officials cannot act like or associate with criminals" or,

"Shall the City of Chicago, County of Cook, State of Illinois recommend that all elected officials must take a course in acting like a non-criminal human being" or maybe even

"Shall the City of Chicago, County of Cook, State of Illinois recommend that the Mayor of Chicago and all 50 Aldermen go fuck themselves."

I thought the petition drive was a good idea. And what is ment by that is if we don't even come close to the number of signatures required it will be a huge knock on us. Daley and very other political hack will laugh. I hope that is not the case. But where there may be failure (Meaning I DO hope this works but this might be or could be the start of something else) another idea may succeed.

We all have been talking about he poor judges we have in Crook County. So if we are able to gather at least 100,000 signatures don't you think we could target some judges that are up for retention? I do believe that in order to stay a judge they have to get 62% i think of the vote. If we can get these people to actually make the effort to vote NO on them and get even (1) Judge voted out I think it would be a major WIN. Further say even if everyone of the 100,000 donates $1.00 USC we could even put out some television ads or billboards against these judges. Its not a bad idea I think. I really think we need more talk about trying to do this. Thanks for your time
