How About Borrowing PO's

We seem to recall annual Christmas parties being thrown here and there over the holiday season. And we seem to recall most of the District and Unit personnel attend them. And we also seem to remember people being brought in from other Districts to help out.

So why the static on this fundraiser?
  • Talking to a couple guys from 007 midnights, it sounds like they are about to be screwed again by their bosses. I guess the watch commander gave a speech last night saying how there are "a lot" of slips in for 13NOV (to be off the night of the 12th) so people could attend the benefit at the Horseshoe Casino for PO Alex Valadez. The W/C went on to say how this isn't a factory and that the CPD is open 24/7/365, so therefore, not everyone can be off.

So let me get this straight: the guys who WORKED the watch with PO Valadez, many of whom saw him in his last moments, were: A) denied time off for his wake. B) denied time off for his funeral, and now, C) will be denied time off for his benefit. The first two (wake, funeral) have been verified. The watch had to work, go to the wake, go back to work, go to the funeral, then go back to work. NO courtesy was given to the officers. Now if denying people off for the benefit is true, Corky, LOOK OUT! This isn't a factory, true. Yes, it is a 24/7/365 operation. But, do factory workers watch their co-workers shot in the head in a ghetto and left to die? NO! I'm sure there are many PO's who would step in for a night and fill out the sheets so the members of the watch could attend the benefit. It happens for Christmas parties, why can't it happen twice (x-mas party, benefit) for these guys and gals because of awful circumstances? I know I would go to 007 and do it. I knew Alex, but the watch deserves first dibs.
It can be done. It's been done before for other watches and Districts and Units across the city for other reasons. Corky? You going to step up? Downtown? You want to show us you "have our backs?"

Blah, blah, blah, this isn't a factory, blah, blah, blah. Hey Cochise, GFY! I'd be more then happy to work in that shithole or anywhere else so the officers can pay respects for there fallen brother. Glad it was brought up on this site. This benefit is more important then any ass kissing christmas party, so I assume the matter should now be over with.

"This isn't a factory...."

It might as well be with the mass production and distribution over the years of various suck-holes, meritorious retards, and flat-out white shirt pussies that the CPD has generated.

Oh, let's not forget the EVENT# machine that the factory loves using. Seriously, what are they doing with all these event numbers? I heard they are being stored in a warehouse very similar to the one at the end of "The Raiders of the Lost Ark," movie.

Be safe everyone. Even you, Deputy D.

Corky you are one of the biggest pieces of shit to ever wear a star!!!! Even if this story isn't true the fact you suck is!!!!
Remember in 15 when you would let known gang members in your office to use the department's computer? Remember giving some of your buddies getting a heads up on search warrants?
Remember ordering officers not to shut down a party and then because of your ignorance/arrogance 4 people were shot?
How the hell does this person stay on the job? With all those, and I am sure many more, and your clout I am sure you will be promoted any day now.
Why don't u hook up with that moron Captain in 5, Jones, who refused to let people go to Alex's wake get together and open up an hot dog stand in Iran?

Get the list going. For this I'd go from working in my unit drive out to 007 for the midnight watch for free. Go to roll call, sit and stair at the W/C, get the keys and drive around. Bosses forget they are nothing more than "Patrolmen" in white shirts, many of them forget where in the hell they came from, or oh, maybe they were never "Patrolmen" to begin with. Who is this W/C?. Jodi, put some people with a set of nuts in positions to make decisions for the troops. This IS A POLICE DEPARTMENT, not a damn Fortune 500 corp. that we have to worry about stockholders. A P.O on midnights with 3 years on the job in 007 has more street smarts than Jodi. These are hard chargers in the ARMPIT of the city, at least take care of them, these PO'S are the future of this Dept.

As a Boss, I agree with the WC who said "put in a slip" if its important to you to go. But then, I'd also see that the Watch was covered to let everyone go who wanted to go. Its only a matter of calling up other districts in the area and requesting a couple of volunteers from each.

As a Boss, I see guys all the time using wakes or funerals as an excuse to duck on company time. You demand to be paid for the least amount of "unnecessary" overtime but you continually want me to cover for you when you take a duck. I may want to let you go because you're a good guy, a hard worker, etc., but I have to protect myself too.

This department has some of the absolute worst management on display 24/7. Promoting merit people because they know and are related to a current boss does not make them affective and productive management material. Many of these so called leaders that we have, have never even attended a leadership course or opened a book for that matter. Ignorance is no excuse yet we are led by those with zero accountability and experience, in 80 percent of the situations, and no matter the outcome we the blue shirts are left to fend for ourselves. jody you want respect then be a man, step up and do what is not only right but ethical and fair. The current leadership is driving this department into the ground not the men & women in blue. Yet it is easy to blame the the patrol division as we have been used multiple times as an excuse for poor management. mr jody look beyond your own ignorance and be honest. This city along with it's employees are better then that as I would think you are too. Would your Mother be proud of the way you and your management staff are treating the men and women who get it done and that are out there doing it? Again, be honest would she?

Now the highly qualified policy group is developing a new leadership class for the exempts. One problem that they forget to consider. We do not have real leaders. Instead, we have clout leaders as evidence in 007. Leadership training will not make a leader. Then they have the balls to ask the commanders why morale is so low? Absolutely clueless!

100% true. Working in MSF I can tell you that the PO who went in just did as he was told. Fact is, is that boss' in MSF should have never let this happen. At least from what we're told is that we are to be on the streets, not working inside as releife for a watch. There is
prcocedure in place when a district is short handed. You pull a guy off a beat car, pull manpower from another district. But Corky (a captain) appearantly isn't aware of this, which has been in place for years. Just like when we're short inside, someone gets pulled in. And I imagine it's that way with any unit.

Being that Alex worked in 022, I'm sure there'll be a big group from 022 going to the benefit. But to the 007th Dist W/C's, you still may want to take a look at getting 1st watch help from 022. On any given night they have traffic car(s) up and sometimes as many as SIX incident cars! 022's 1st watch has so many P.O.'s they're tripping over each other and there's usually not enough cars to go around. They're sometimes riding 4 deep. They have MORE than enough bodies to help out.

Well you can look it at one or two ways....

1. Pro-VICELORD - I believe was his connections as he kicked arrest reports as W/C for NO PROBABLE CAUSE (based on his own opinion mind you and not the facts of the narrative)and he would kick charges down(Delivery of Controlled Substance 570/401 to Possession 570/402) thus givng DUDE a lower bond and an out at COUNTY or save dude a TRUE BILL SGJ indictment or to help a brother out possibly to get a No PROBABLE CAUSE from the branch judge and get the case tossed before trial.

Sidenote-ASA's would just add the charge at the P/C hearing and ask WHY he would do this....???

Go FIGURE!

2. Pro-Police- Is that crickets chirping I hear?

As a Watch Commander it's my responsibility to make it happen for these guys.and gals. However, SCC, have you seen the worksheets in any district lately? Particularly 1st watch? Things like this are going to be more frequent, not because the Watch Commander is being insensitive, but because the personnel just aren't out there. You can't go to the well if it's dry, too.

I understand but as a leader do not be so god damm negative. Comparing this job to a factory? WTF! I am sooo tired of negative, bullshit roll calls.

Sorry you guys have to deal with an asshole boss at such a hard time.

I know this might sound stupid, but you will be stronger men and women because if this asshole.

Think about it, if you can handle being abused by this jagoff at a time like this.....you, my fellow officers, can handle anything.

Fuck you Corky whomever you are!!

Really, fuck you.

Wouldn't it be nice if we, slowly in the next week, went over to the 007th district and personally let the W/C know that we are willing to work so that the watch may attend his benefit. That's the least we can do. I'm an old timer and I do recall the "helping each other out" when other districts needed to fill some of the cars for Christmas parties, it happened all the time. But then again that's when we had camaraderie. How about it?

As I have stated before, we are the LAUGHINGSTOCK of Law Enforcement in America. Things are the way they are now because of 1 simple reason: Poor Leadership. If it sucks at the top it only gets worse as you go down. I'm sorry but it's the truth. I used to enjoy this job. I actually liked coming to work. I was surrounded by a great core of coppers and my bossess were actually pretty good. That was on the west side. Now we are all gone, I'm surrounded by a group of non-motivated unknowledgeable hacks who I wouldnt trust to protect my worst friend. Worse yet, is that the supervisory ranks are absolutely horrible. A majority of them can't make a command decision if it depended on their life. Why? Because they were never the police to begin with. What the hell has happened? The good times are gone and let's face it, it's never going to get better. Even when this Moron fed leaves it will still suck. We will still have a mayor who HATES our guts. We will still have aldermen who don't respect us or our job. And we will still have a majoriy of these meritoriously promoted hacks running this once proud department. I wish I could leave but its too late. I wish I wouldve tried when I was younger because I hate it. Im stuck in a quagmire and am getting tired of going to interviews for units and having to be asked "who do I know?" Hey asshole, I dont know anybody but I bet I'm more qualified than 90% of the retards you have here now. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. As it is I'll go back to my quiet spot and try to do as little as possible unless my entire north side career partner wants to lock some pissers up! Then I'll feel like the police again!!!!

You sir are in the same class as the Jag Boss. If he has a problem with a PO deal with it. Dont screw the whole watch and have the nerve to tell someone to burn a slip to attend a PO's funeral. I'm sure he never atttended a funeral while working w/o fropping a slip. As far as I'm concerned the only thing that can burn around here is you and the Jag boss.

The truth of the matter is that Corky and his "crew" think it is ok to treat the working coppers in 007 without respect. Let's be honest here, it is a well known fact that the "cadillac lounge" exists, yet he is still allowed to wear the star.....too much power is given to certain POs on that watch. You know it's bad when POs are deciding whether or not another PO and/or sgt can have a night off. POs are denied time due in 007 and others are intentionally left off the sheets the night before to show these POs that there isn't enough manpower but then these POs are suddenly remembered on the next tour and ooops I guess you could've had the day off but I didn't realize that so and so was actually working until now.blah blah blah What a joke. Guys work theirs asses off for a w/c that wouldn't spit on them if they were on fire. This thing with the benefit is just the tip of the iceberg...this goes on constantly and yet no one can leave. I know that manpower is an issue everywhere but realistly if you have enough cars on 1st watch for 06 cars and "mall" cars for malls that aren't even open...then you are not really short handed as in the case of 007 1st watch. Why should coppers be "punished" simply because they are assigned to 007?!?!

You'll do it for free because of all the wonderful things the citizens, particularly the citizens in Englewood, have done for us?

First off, if a copper from MSF was told by Corky to work the lock up I would tell him that I need to get in touch with my Sgt. Then the Sgt calls his W/C who in turn calls Commander Rousell, Commander Rousell then puts the brakes on the whole thing.
as far as working in the 7th district the night of the party, it can be done, MSF & TRU are the police and can handle it for 1 night. Back in the old SOS we would work in 25 when they had thier x-mas party assisting the cars that we left. it's no big deal, the bosses just have to ask and these things get done, but when you have an asshole boss in the district, Fuck him, but then you Fuck the men and women whom we don't want to hurt, the depressing thing is when you have an asshole W/C in a district it seems like the commander of that district is afraid to address the asshole even the area deputy is afraid of assholes.
