There would be nothing more destructive to this police department than killing this deal after it has been announced to the membership.

If this is true, I'll me disappointed, but not surprised. 4/2 would have benefited the department in ways one could only imagine. Center point is that it would make the copper on the beat ( well, most of them) happy. And what happens when you have happy employees?
1.They become MORE productive.
2.They cost the department less in sick time.
3. They are less stressed on the streets so complaints would drop.
4. Money saved (see above).
All in all, for the first time in a LONG time the city and department came up with something that the majority of it's members agreed to AND wanted. So this latest issue is either a ploy from Daley to squeeze more concessions out of us or he's completely gone dafted!

The 4-2 schedule is gone because the CPD is having the audacity to try to organize into a serious voting block.
If there is one thing this Mayor understands, it is politics. He knows that if ANY group of voters who might oppose his way of doing business, starts to grow in size and gain any kind of momentum, it can have VERY SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES to the Daley Crime Family's operations.
His dad taught him well. His dad knew that Police and Firemen EACH could easily influence at least 10 voters come election time just between friends and family members. A riled up block of Police and Firemen may be able to control TEN TIMES that many votes.
Daddy Daley kept everyone at bay by using the divide and conquer concept. He did everything in his power to keep us from unionizing and encouraged each of several Police groups (FOP, CPA, COP) to stay strong and compete for members against the other organizations. A house divided, so to speak.
Jane Byrne changed everything for us. When the Police Officers endorsed her for Mayor and she won, she took care of us and we became unionized.
The stuttering prick has been beating us down ever since. It costs HIM nothing to have PO's arrested or smeared in the press all the time. It just puts public sentiment in his corner and ensures that the citizenry dislikes or even hates us so there will be less chance of any kind of voters "revolution" occurring led by a block of police officers against his evil empire.
Everything this man does is politics at its finest and, love him or hate him, he's an artist at what he does. Here's hoping he soon joins other famous artists and croaks so we can undo all the damage he has done to our society!
If they killed this new schedule then any cop that does any work is a SCAB. Even if you didn't like the new schedule and they majority did, it's a way for the city to screw us.

It is dead. Ask anyone in the know and they will tell you that Weis personally intervened to get the 4-2 worked out between the city and union. After pounding his chest and claiming a victory for the troops Wies began touting the schedule to help improve moral. Then city hall smacked him down and now what does he have -- lower moral and whatever, if any confidence people had in is word is gone! Wies, I give you credit, you tried to get it through; you just got sandbagged (lucky you weren’t tea bagged) by the hall. You should be pissed.
This Superintendant was brought in because the Mayor believed there was widespread corruption in the Department. He believed a Fed would lend an air of credibility to the City for his "bid".
Here is how it is working: there was no widespread corruption. You know that now Mayor. You now have a Fed in place that has no idea how to run a Police Department. Apples and oranges. My favorite story is when the Feds downsized and "fired" an entire group in a Unit and were amazed when they didn't go hit the unemployment line. 'You just get re-assigned?'
The one thing they could have done is clean up the disciplinary process. They have failed miserably at this also. The pristine Feds (along with family members!)have managed to get themselves mired in the stupidity. They have taken care of their own, and now, have compromised themselves. The two tier disciplinary system is now worse and more of an embarassment than ever. NICE JOB!
You have destroyed the desire of the Police Officers that were doing their job. We had our problems with some before, but now you have a Department that feels the City government, and most of the people in it HATE the people that would have laid down their lives for them. Morale is now a bigger problem that you 'imagined' corruption ever would have been.

Daley realizes he is under tremendous scrutiny over raiding the rainy day fund to fix his budget. It is a triple edge sword, waste of money on olympics/Michael Reese, foolishly leasing the parking meters and inability to maintain a budget yet giving himself and the aldermen 6% raises. He has to shift the focus on someone else and who better than the police! We have been destroyed by the media since Abatte so they are more than willing to participate. It is no coincidence that Daley and the alderclowns proposed 24 unpaid furlo days, thats 10% of our salary boys and girls, one day per pay period. The city council then states that they won't ratify any double digit raise for us. Of course they can't do anything about either situation, they cannot impose furlo days nor can they not ratify an arbitrators findings. The public does not know this and will continue to believe that we are all fat selfish pigs. It is no coincidence that the release of the news story that police complaints are up 18% and that the police board only fires 37% of those recommended. Thatis being manipulated to make us look like we are out of control, untouchable and undeserving of a raise. SCC proposes a referendum to reduce the number of aldermen and all of a sudden our 4-2 schedule is slammed down in revenge. Very stupid on the city's behalf because productivity would have increased and complaints would decreased. We have been under seige and outright attacked over the past 30 months, with the last twenty months getting progressively worse. We are at about the half way point of our suffering, but not at the peak. The city will draw blood from us whether it be furlo days, layoffs, unpaid overtime or most likely suspension time. Look for what has already been an increase in recommendations of suspension time to double or triple and even less bosses refusing to sign off on it. The city will get its unpaid furlo days from us one way or another. The city has been lucky this year, weather and poor shooting have reduced the homicide rate, but the agg batts are still up. Look for a sharp increase next year. In other words, strap in boys and girls we are still in for a long rough ride before things get better.

Listening to 890 AM last night. they were talking about the Obama 2000 page health care plan. 2 things struck me (Well more than 2)
1. Congress has exempted themselves from the provisions of the plan. Its good enough for us but not them.
2. The plan doesnt take effect utill 2013. That date ring a bell to you retirees? Has this been planed under the table for years?

I thought the petition drive was a ok idea. And what is ment by that is if we don't even come close to the number of signatures required it will be a huge knock on us. We all have been talking about he poor judges we have in Crook County. So if we are able to gather at least 100,000 signatures don't you think we could target some judges that are up for retention? I do believe that in order to stay a judge they have to get 62% i think of the vote. If we can get these people to actually make the effort to vote NO on them and get even (1) Judge voted out I think it would be a major WIN. Further say even if everyone of the 100,000 dontes $1.00 USC we could even put out some televison ads or billords against these judges. Its not a bad idea I think. The district-level vehicle requirements of the schedule are the problem. Case in point: 018 has 12+ dedicated cars sitting unused in the lot for 15 hours a day because of the overlapping coverage required between 3rd and 1st watches. Once the 3rd watch beat cars check off, their 12+ cars sit unused in the lot for 5 hours until 2nd watch comes out to play. The start times weren't set at the district level but at 35th street, based on peak dispatch call volumes. Eliminating the R cars and the goofy 3rd-1st watch overlap would make sense and that's the problem. It's too logical and these fools obviously wanted this to fail from the word go.
Why give up anything for a new work schedule? Don't give in on anything. Fuck Daley! Why should we give up anything after Dayley's years of mismanagement. Just got a big increase on my property tax bill today. At least I can say I never voted for Daley or any of the other machine fucks.

No big deal, I've worked the 6/2 schedule for 20+ years and it ain't gonna kill me if it stays that way. The 4/2 would have been okay to try, but I'm not going to let jagoff Daley get to me with his bullshit. I'll still have my 3 day weekends and I have enough time on the books to extend them until I retire in 2 more years.
Anyway, I feel like I have a cold or flu coming on, so I guess I'm going to have to hit the medical soon. I'm thinking that I might be sick an awful lot this cold & flu season. I've been too distressed to write tickets or do anything pro-active anyway.

8:00:00 was right. It was a political move the whole time. We jumped on the 4/2 schedule and trusted Weis. Where were all the new cars going to come from when this was implemented city wide? They have to come up with a car for each beat car. for example 231/231R for the midnight cars. Where were the radios going to come from? It was a ploy the whole time. It got us excited, Daley proposed the furlough days, we rejected it, 4/2 is taken away, morale drops further. Daley played us and will continue to play us until our members/union wake up and stops trying to get a good job with the city/State's Attny office.

Your the fool, your a police officer, not a construction worker, not a factory worker...you took an oath. If you feel you can no longer do that, quit!

I would hope you took the job to serve, not collect.
Finally, that does NOT mean I agree or like or support what is being done to us, but bad guys don't stop commiting crimes and we shouln't stop locking them up!

Listen all that any P.O. should do is stop generating revenue. If you see a crime being committed absolutely lock the offender up. hey why not lock them uo it costs the city money when we obatin a CB number. However DO NOT generate revenue. That's how you hurt them.

Not only is the 4-2 gone EVERYONE is going back to 6-2 including units and the prototype districts. Units you can thank yourself for a 35% decrease in activity.
BS at TRU we are staying at 10 hour days the Sgt told us at roll call tonight further activity for TRU is up 15 percent SO THERE

Daley is a dumb prick, but he has bigger assholes advising him, starting with his labor negotiators James Franczek and Dave Johnson. Two bigger haters of the police cannot be found. For those thinking about "furlough days?" A little history lesson, 15plus years back the city had us paying $2.00 per check for medical insurance. Now it is 1.45% of your gross check. The city never does anything for our benefit, so never give anything back.
Before I take any days off without pay first give me the same pay raise as the alderman 24% over 4 years. Then give me the same medical benefits and pension as they do. When that happens then we start talking. Give backs for a schedule change iselling out for nothing and sets a very bad precedent.
The whole thing is being derailed by the lawyers. After all, deals between a FOP Prez and a Superintendent don't have any billable hours for the prostitutes.

My commander and watch commander are real tuff stand up guy's. They are going to see this as a morale buster and tell the mayor and Weiss they are wrong. My leaders do not care if they get heat for this because they care about the officers not themselves.

In response to a short history lesson: Well said. The fact that the police department may be getting political is a major threat to Daley. He is weak and even if he isn't defeated in the next election, an organized faction against him is a major threat, him and all his lackey alderman. The pretitions are a great idea, but should only be a start.

Plain and simple, I've been doing 6 - 2for 12 + years, it does suck, but it's what I signed up for. The 4 - 2 looked good to me, but I'll never give anything up like unpayed furlough days to the city for it. I can do 6 - 2 standing on my head if it calls for it. I will still arrest people who commit crimes in font of me, because it is my job. Will I be proactive in generating money for this city? Nah... Will I ever vote Daley again? No. Even if Daley runs against jessie Jackson I will simply write in any copper that we can all agree on.
JW. It has been said time and time again. Someplace on your body is a sack, with a set of balls in it,we think. Please feel around and try to find them. When you do....Call the little prick boss of yours, tell him something like, "I'm gonna run my Police Department the way it should be run". By the time he fires you, you will have the backing of us all. Let us be the police, give us what WE need, get moral up. WTF if this was the Military you would have been in your half shelter with a grenade rolling in under your ass, or at least relieved of COMMAND. Don't you fucking get it. TAKE CARE OF THE TROOPS. It's pretty basic strategy.
The 4 and 2 sucks. They convert your furlough days into hours. You end up losing 1.5 days of furlough per split segment. They end up taking more of your accumulated Comp Time when you want a 3 day weekend.
You better look into NON-BINDING ARBITRATION. City can say no and send it back to arbitrator. FOP must accept the arbitrator's decision.
They can vote in down and then you take them to court to get it enforced.

When I was hired it was $0 per check, nothing, prescriptions also were -0-
Then it went to $1
My last prescription, yesterday, had a co-pay of $30.
I cannot get off this goddamned job fast enough. I feel for the rest of you but I just want out.
