OT: I dont mean to take the spotlight off what is important here, but for all you bloggers in the 60655 area you will be happy to know the local blog is back! Rather than the In and Around it is Around and In! The site is under construction, but the premise will be the same with a seemingly more competent blogmaster... the site is www.aroundandin60655.blogspot.com I urge you to spread the word and get this thing up and running... the previous blog was a great resource and I personally was sad to see it go... so lets get this one going just as well! SCC how about a link for us south siders? Thanks! www.aroundandin60655.blogspot.com!

To SCC: Thanks a heap!!! Keep up the great work.
Also thanks to Sgt. Northen.
Since the deadline for filing the bound petitions is an unknown time on MONDAY, November 16th, we ask that all notarized petitions containing the self-addressed STAMPED envelope (44 cents) or postcard (28 cents) be mailed no later than Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11th. That would give less than TEN (10) days to collect, notarize and mail the petitions. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE.
U.S. Postage rate for business-sized (9" x 4") envelope: Up to 1 ounce = 44 cents, 1-2 ounces = 61 cents, 2-3 ounces: 78 cents. If the weight exceeds 3 ounces, mail in another separate envelope.
Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11th is a postal holiday with no USPS deliveries. Since the petitions must be received no later than Saturday, November 14th, you would be strongly advised to mail all petitions no later than Tuesday, November 10th which is less than ten (10) days away.
For particulars, check www.USPS.gov
Better get started on this right away. If the deadline is Monday, November 16th, there will be no mail deliveries on Wednesday, November 11 (Veterans Day) and Sunday, November 15th.
If we collect 100 names on 10 pages, must the bottom of each page be filled out and notarized?
The only way to get people in the FOP that will give us fair representation will be for the guys with less then 10 years on to get involved. They must begin filling up the hall for meetings and they must begin to learn the by-laws of the union.
The current union is nothing more than a good old boys network. They are only worried about themselves. They are kissing up to shortshanks so they can land in an easy spot when they retire.
Also, I know this will piss a few people off, but we must elect every single detective out of the FOP they have been negotiating contracts for themselves and always seem to leave patrol flap in the wind.
Also, we need to get everyone with 18 or more years out of office because all they are doing is buying time so they can leave to the easy spot that they sold their soul for.
This department went from the oldest to the youngest in less then a decade. The younger guys are the ones who should be stepping up, not the old timers. The old timers are just attempting to set themselves up after retirement and trying to sweeten their pension benefits. If the young guys do not step up, there will not be a pension to sweeten for them.
This is a serious problem we have within the FOP and until the younger coppers step up this department is doomed.
I have signed and my family can't wait to vote for this!
We really need to shrink these dickheads!

We're Chicago Police Officers for Chrissake. Print it, sign it, find 9 more people to sign it, mail it to Northen. TADAAAA!! You're a signing location! Problem solved and we got 10 more signatures.
Why is everyone getting all excited over this? It is advisory in nature at best! At any rate, it is a complete waste of time. Better to run for office yourselves and see how it is on the inside.
Consider this, with 25 aldermen instead of 50 that is 25 fewer trained seals to appease, 25 fewer potential loose cannons to control and 25 fewer to worry about getting elected.
All in all, if daley had 2 only alderman he would be happier still. Ed Burke and Balcer would suit shortshanks just fine.
Boys and girls they will punish you for circulation of these petitions as a violation of the Hatch act that precludes political work by government employees.
Have your significant others and retired friends do the petition circulation for you. City employees cannot be prevented from signing the petitions.
I just saw that Ald Allen (38th) is arguing that City Hall take the TIF money and use it to pay police officers and firefighters. Anyone see any more on that or know anything about Allen?
ANOTHER REASON TO SIGN THIS PETITION:
I LIVE IN A VERY QUIET FAR NORTHWEST SIDE NEIGHBORHOOD, NEAR THE 16TH DIST POLICE STATION.
LAST NIGHT AFTER 11, THERE WAS A DRIVE BY SHOOTING, THANK GOODNESS NO INNOCENT BYSTANDER WAS SHOT. I HAVE LIVED HERE FOR MANY YEARS, AND HAVE NEVER EVER HEARD A SHOT FIRED IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD. THERE WAS 1 MARKED CAR THAT CAME OUT, AND A SGT, THE TACT CARS FINALLY SHOWED UP. I WAS TOLD BY NEIGHBORS THAT THIS WAS THE SECOND ROUND OF SHOTS. THERE WERE SIX SHOTS FIRED ABOUT A HALF AN HOUR BEFORE THE ONES I HEARD.
DALEY, ARE YOU LISTENING? YOU SCUMBAG ARE THE CAUSE OF THIS. YOU AND YOUR PEOPLE HAVE PUT SECTION 8 HOUSING ALL OVER THE CITY IN THE NICE QUIET NEIGHBORHOODS, AND HAVE MADE THE STREETS UNSAFE FOR OUR CHILDREN.
WE THE LAW ABIDING CITIZENS THAT ARE FORCED TO LIVE IN THIS CITY, BECAUSE OF JOBS AND CONVENIENT TRANSPORTATION BECAUSE YOU EITHER HAVE A CITY JOB OR CAN'T AFFORD THE GAS OR CAN AFFORD TO SPEND 2 HOURS A DAY IN TRAFFIC BECAUSE YOU HAVE A LAW ABIDING FAMILY.
I WISH THERE WAS A PETITION TO RECALL YOU, BECAUSE YOU ARE A WORTHLESS PIECE OF CRAP. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT YOU OWN THE NEWS NETWORKS, BECAUSE ALL THEY DO IS BELITTLE THE POLICE OFFICERS. I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THIS CITY IS SHORT 3 OR 4 THOUSAND POLICE OFFICERS, AND WE WANT OUR POLICE DEPT BACK IN FULL FORCE. WE ARE TIRED OF NOT HAVING CALLS ANSWERED, BECAUSE THERE ARE NO CARS AVAILABLE.
WAKE UP YOU PIECE OF CRAP, GIVE US SOME OF YOUR PROTECTION. WE ARE TIRED OF BEING LAW ABIDING CITIZENS AND BEING CRAPPED ON BY YOU.
I TOLD MY NEIGHBORS TO CALL LEVAR TOMORROW, BUT IT PROBABLY WOULDN'T DO ANY GOOD. HE'S IN YOUR POCKET. HE'S ONE OF YOUR PUPPETS.
With a Monday, November 16th DEADLINE for filing and the fact that there will be no postal service on Wednesday, November 11th and Sunday, November 15th, mail the petitions no later than Tuesday, November 10th. Remember to include a self-addressed, STAMPED
envelope (44 cents) or postcard (28 cents).
ANd you wonder why 4-2 was taken away! Stupid idea SCC. Get over it, reasons like this are why we fuck ourselves
I agree with posts that relate giving nothing for a schedule change. The Mayor at this point is so damaged that he will sling whatever he has left. Did you see the little story about the TIF'S (see link below) the Reader has been rattling this story and its finally picked up by the Trib. He will have to explain who exactly benefits. Since we have had the schedule this long, I think the only solution is to just tough it out. He knows that we don't help him in any way so these are his "get backs". He fails to see the that happy employees generate revenue for your "business" and since we are one of a few departments that generate untold amounts of revenue he is even smaller than I imagined. Remember the pen is mightier than the sword, so stop putting ink to those parkers and movers. This will only work if done by 90% of us. There is no stopping the 10% with an agenda so its not worth trying. I think this blog has the right idea in generating ideas to get rid of some aldercreatures and to put the final nail in the coffin for Daley. He has never been this hurt, even with all the past investigations, its time to finally push the issue. This time voters are financially damaged and are feeling the pinch that his policies created. We always vote with our pocketbook and he will see this come election time.
As far as Weis is concerned I think he has tried to get through to this man and has finally hit the wall. I don't blame his for sticking around and collecting the paycheck...some of us are doing the same thing.

What, if anything do I do with the two boxes at top right on the petition? Do I check the "yes" box or leave it alone? Two sheets now completed-just family, coppers, and friends.
I’ll be happy to support the reduction in useless alderman if they reduce the number of outside law firms currently actively working for the city from 105 to 50 and reduce the number of legal divisions in the Chicago Department of Law from 15 to 7 and the number of lawyers in the Department of Law from 270 (and still they need 105 outside law firms??????) to 135…to start with.
Also, if they cut the number of legal staff, the alderman won’t have the legal means at there disposal to “kick the cops and firemen around on salary and staffing issues”, the usual crap that the lawcreatures pull off.
Does that sound like a plan?

Were can I bring my family and friends to sign a petition.
In my time as a sergeant, I have reviewed and signed thousands of case reports. On occasion, I had to kick it back to the beat officer(s) for errors and/or omissions.
First, place a "X" in the "YES" box next to the referendum statement.
Better safe than sorry. Let's go through the bottom portion of each petition sheet, using me as the "CIRCULATOR" who must fill in the blanks (see blue underscored):
I, John Northen, being duly sworn, do hereby certify that I reside at 1960 Lincoln Park West in the Village/City/Town of Chicago, in the County of Cook, State of Illinois.
On the lower right side, you will sign your name on the "Signature of Circulator" line. Do NOT write in "Sheet Number" space. I will do that.
All of the above must be done on each and every petition sheet.
In the lower left hand corner, the "CIRCULATOR" will LEGIBLY print his/her name. The NOTARY PUBLIC will date and complete all below this.
YOU MUST include a STAMPED, self-addressed (folded) envelope (44 cents postage) or postcard (28 cents postage) with each envelope mailed to me. I will return it immediately upon receipt of your petitions. If you have doubts whether the envelope containing the petitions requires .44, .61 or .78 cents postage, weigh the sealed envelope on the post office scale. If your petitions exceed 3 ounces, send another envelope with petitions as directed above.
Since the petitions must be paginated, bound and filed by Monday, November 16th and with no postage deliveries on Sunday or Wednesday, November 11th (Veterans Day), I urge you to mail all petitions no later than Tuesday, November 10th, giving you less than ten days to mail.
I reserve the right to ignore any petitions that do not comply with the above and/or are not received by me by Saturday, November 14th.
Thank you.

We need more police presence. Less aldermen.
Drive by shooting twice in 16th dist on once very quiet residential street. This cannot happen anymore in this area. We need more patrol cars at night.
If this had happened a few hours earlier our children would have been caught in the shooting.
Police presence slows down idiots in cars with guns.
What doesn't this stupid ass of a mayor understand. Let's sign a petition to get rid of him.
I am buying a gun, the hell with the idiot mayor. It is my civil right to bear arms.
Call Alderman Levar, flood his office with calls this week about the gunfire. He doesn't do anything but sit on his fat ass and take money from the businesses in this area. He also gets free food all the time, hence the fat ass.
Gee ya think it was a bad time to start an organized fight with the aldermen in the middle of arbitration/new schedule vote/pressure to give up furl days etc....thanks alot...coppers are always our own worst enemy!!!!!!

Some character got thrown out of a party in Austin and came back and fired shots through the door of the place. That'll show 'em.
"A 24-year-old woman died after being shot in the chest this morning at a party in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.
"Jennifer Clark, of the 3200 block of West Crystal Street, was pronounced dead at 1:41 a.m. at Mt. Sinai Hospital, according to a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner's office.

MAYBE WE SHOULD START TELLING RESIDENTS IN CRIME RIDDEN NEIGHBORHOODS THE SAME THING:
COLUMBUS, Ohio (Oct. 31) - Residents of Ohio's capital city are complaining that police officers are telling them to move out if they're fed up with neighborhood crime.
At least two Columbus city council members have heard the complaint.
An aide to Councilwoman Charleta Tavares says she has received more than 20 calls. Councilman Andrew Ginther says if police are making the comments, they're neither acceptable nor appropriate, though he says he believes most officers want to be helpful.
A police spokesman says the department addresses the complaints when it's given the name of an officer.
A police union official says he understands if officers are frustrated with crime. Fraternal Order of Police President Jim Gilbert says: "It's like the OK Corral out there."

Eh.. "crimefile"... go read the content of the Hatch Act. What we're doing here has nothing to do with it in any way shape or form, so quit trying to cause problems because you are way off base and obviously don't know what you're talking about.
IMPORTANT!! I believe that the petition calls for the question to be added to the ballot as is. Therefore NO X should be placed on any petition. The voters will put an X in the box when they get their ballots.

1. Time is never wasted developing
the skills and acquiring the knowledge needed to effectively participate in our Democracy. Those skills and that knowledge are essential to EFFECTIVELY achieve the goals set forth in our Federal and State Constitutions, ie., government OF the People, BY the People and FOR the People.
2. the statute quoted prohibits political activity while working, and/or the use of materials, and/or facilities, paid for by the taxpayers. It does not, nor can it, deny each and every citizen, even those employed by governments, their right to participate in their Democracy ON THEIR OWN TIME.
3. The only 'people' who have to fear this beginning of political actions to come are the rascals currently abusing their sworn public offices, ie., the INCUMBENTS, or their 'loyal' minions.

Bad Idea guys
John Northern asked me a valid question about my post RE: The Hatch Act.
Let me make it clear I have done zero legal research and hope the members of the state bar in blue or their friends will help here. I am working on my memory only. I hope I’m wrong!
This is what I sent to Northern when he wondered If I had case cites and such.:
RE: The Hatch act
I am getting ready for a European trip and don’t have the time to research the law involved. I do have experience with that law and recognize that it’s a protection for government employees so they are not forced into political work.
The Hatch act covered off duty time as well as on duty. The use of private real estate does not exempt the political action.
If this was union organizing rather than political activity they could not punish anyone.
That’s true First Amendment stuff.
The argument against the Hatch Act has always been First Amendment too but this exception was made and was valid for decades. I know of no exceptions that would cover this petition drive.
I know Daley would love a showdown with a load of CR numbers and suspensions to reduce the city budget right now. I’m just saying the working coppers need to be careful. I hope someone can prove me wrong. I would love to see 25 unemployed Aldermen.
Please do whatever is needed to gat the petitions signed. Any officer can sign any petition themselves without fear.
SCC, if the referendum were to fail, here is a possible plan B. You should start a campaign for mayor ,and have likeminded people in your group run for the alderman positions. Raising money should not be a problem.

But he got his kid and family great city jobs he must be smart! How big is his manilla envelopes filled with cash?
Specifically, where is the petition for a referendum filed (City Clerk, Board of Elections, both, etc)?
Is there a fee for filing?
How many valid signatures are required based on the size of the electorate of the City of Chicago?
Is there a written source which explains this process and established a deadline of November 16th? If yes, please cite.
Does "Crimefile" have any available citations which implicate the Hatch Act and the collection of signatures by off-duty city employees?
If you really want to stir the pot, have petition circulators in front of every aldermanic office. Now that's something I'd like to see!!
What, if anything do I do with the two boxes at top right on the petition? Do I check the "yes" box or leave it alone? Two sheets now completed-just family, coppers, and friends.
=====================
I believe this is just to show you how the "referendum" will appear on the ballot......not necessary to mark off on the petitions.
A Seattle police officer was shot and killed last night, and his partner was wounded while they sat in their marked patrol car. The wounded officer was a recent academy graduate and the officer killed was an FTO. The rookie was able to exit the car and return fire at the offender's. They are calling it an execution. The offenders pulled alongside the parked police car and without warning fired a dozen shots "point blank".
The Mayor and Police chief had nothing but praise for the fallen officer and the rookie officer. Every asset has been mobilized to find the offenders.
Go watch the local seattle news coverage and the press conferences, it was "very moving" to see a Mayor, Police Chief, and public that supports their officers.
Daley and Weis could learn something by viewing the press conference.
God bless our fraternal brother and sister officer's and their families. We stand by the fine officers of the SPD.
Catch the SOB(s) responsible!
YOU PEOPLE ARE PUSSY'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU WOMEN EXCUSE THE PUN. THE CITY IS TOTALLY ILLEGAL IN RELEASING NEWS CLIPS CRITICAL OF US. SMITH AND OTHER ALDERMAN BEING CRITICAL OF US, WHILE ARBITRATION IS GOING ON IS VIOLATION OF FAIR LABOR. WE HAVE NO UNOIN OR UNION, SMITH SPEAKS FOR THE CITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE'RE DOOMED IF NO ONE SPEAKS OUT ABOUT THIS. WE NEED SEIU TO REPRESENT US, AND THEN WE'D GET SOMETHING DONE. WE GOT NO UNION, WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ALD ALLEN is a stand up guy. Although he has to be savvy and succumb to the political winds in this city to take care of his ward like all aldermen, he is 100% PRO-POLICE and FIRE...100%%%%%
He would vote to use the TIF stash that Daley and his cronies salivate over each night, to pay for the contracts of POLICE and FIRE because he knows, without them, it's escape from New York best case scenario. Or DETROIT..
Daley wants the police to give up their vacation days....well don't you think that the retro pay of not having a contract is sacrafice enough. First, of all he doesn't want to pay the police the money that is rightfully theirs in addition he now wants their vacation days. Hey King Daley here's something for you, you have been in office for over 20 years and this is your debt because of unnecessary spending and over payed aldermans... Take a trip to New York and see how they run a city with less aldermen with more residents!!. Start paying the debt with your salary and Jod'si!

YOU PUSSY!!!!
Take what scraps the master throws you and stop commenting.
GETACLUE FILE:
We are not permitted to campaign on duty or in uniform! We are still citizens and cannot be prevented from participating in an election! Read the laws as applied to ILLINOIS, CHICAGO in particular. WHERE DO YOU LIVE NOW?
We could live with 15 aldermen citywide. New York city has 50 councilmen, and they have a population of 8.4 million. In L.A. there are 18 councilmen and they have a population of well over 3 million people, and L.A. is bigger then Chicago in terms of square miles. There are 2.73 million residents in Chicago per the last census. If we did reduce the number from 50 to 25, which will NEVER happen, I doubt it will save any money though. The 25 left will now need bigger ward offices, bigger staffs, and bigger salaries because of all the additional work they must now perform. Remember how the lottery would pay for education in Illinois if it was approved by the General Assembly about 25/30 years ago. They would never have to ask taxpayers to foot the bill via property taxes, or any other tax increase because the procedes from the Lottery would pay for educating the children of Illinois. Well, the Lottery is a runaway success with all kinds of games available every day of the week. It makes a ton of money, yet we the taxpayers still pay for education. The more money these blood suckers have, the more they spend.
i see dum dum allen's foot soldiers are somewhat computer literate.
too bad they don't understand that bullshit can be smelled, even on a blog.
Did you know that Aldermen get an 80% pension after 10 years of service in office? It's true.
* In a rather strange twist, 28th Ward Ald. Ed Smith filed early this morning to run for the Illinois House. Smith’s powerful ward organization has in the past supported state Rep. Annazette Collins, who has already filed for that 10th Illinois House District seat. Rep. Collins has also filed for the 7th Congressional District seat currently held by Democrat Danny Davis. Davis is running for Cook County Board President, but he also filed for to run again for Congress this morning. Smith couldn’t be reached early this morning.
I believe that the big deal is that this will send a very STRONG message to City Hall about what the citizens are thinking about and how we are voting. No matter that it is only advisory, it could sway some of the Alderwhores and could make them reconsider their actions in order to maintain their jobs.
I am concerned that the CPD feel the need to take this on but on the other hand, perhaps it will make the citizens and CPD come together on something.
Daley has caused so many problems and his decisions have screwed all of us. It is not only you guys. Any citizen who is aware of reality, feels screwed about the failures of Daley and the lack of over-sight by the Alderfucxs.

I will tell you all that I'm proud of all of our brothers and sisters sticking together to combat the "machine." Fu** these politicans who can give themselves a pay increase and tell us to forfeit 25 days. Will the private schools we send our kids to tell us not to pay them? Will the tax and mortgage man tell us not to pay him? NO they won't. We need to fight these pricks who are trying to take food from our families mouths. God bless those of us who are sticking together during this crisis.
