Easy Question

  • You could call it a tale of two streets. One of them is perfect; freshly resurfaced with nice sidewalks and curbs. The other is a mess.

They're just a block apart in the same ward in the Beverly neighborhood. As 2 Investigator Pam Zekman reports, residents in the 19th Ward were pretty angry over how their alderman has been spending a special fund intended for ward improvements.

They wanted to know why does one street get help and not the other?
We know! We know!!
  • So what's the difference between Bell Avenue and Leavitt Avenue? The local alderman, Virginia Rugai, lives on Bell.
We saw that answer on Final Jeopardy the other day!

Hey SCC, I got cave-in on my street at least 4-6 feet in diameter and 6 feet deep for 10 months now. The red faced, beverage swilling Alderthief Zalewski tells my neighbor the city doesn't have money for asphalt. Can't wait till one of those large delivery or garbage trucks causes the whole street to cave in. Hopefully 23rd Ward residents have had enough of this clown. Maybe he needs to be video taped leaving political hack cacciatolos lindys? Smile for the camera Mikey!

Alderman Wants To Ban Relatives From Stealth Payroll

Posted by Hal Dardick at 9:05 p.m.

Saying he was troubled by the actions of a colleague, Ald. Thomas Allen said today he wants to ban the hiring of relatives on a stealth payroll controlled by the City Council.

Allen, 38th, cited a statement by Ald. Isaac Carothers, 29th, in a Nov. 19 Tribune story that revealed the use of the payroll account used to hire council members’ relatives, campaign operatives and those with political baggage.

It's called the alderman discretionary fund. Use it as they want!
Hire relatives outside city procedures.
Kick backs from the mayor to keep them loyal and vote his way!
50 aldercreatures x 2 million each = 100 million wasted discretionary aldermanic spending! cars, drivers, food, entertainment!
100 million a year could save how many city jobs?
Supply how many city services?
BUT NO!!! LET THE ALDERMEN SPEND IT AS THEY WANT! GREAT!!!

Same deal on Fairfield from 9900 to 10300. The 100~101 is newly paved with curbs and the new corner handicapped ramps. The rest of Fairfield 99~100 then 101 all the way to 103 is untouched. It's all because some alderman's brother lives on the 10000 of Fairfield and he got it done. Then I noticed tree trimmers were out in mid September trimming up the trees around the street lights only on that block. Look him up in the Accessors office Pam, and kill two birds with one stone.

Good evening, wadies and gentlewen. This is Babawa Wawa weporting.
For those of youse that have never been down the Alderwoman's street, the gold plated curbs and crosswalks may be startling. But keep in mind, these are two completely different blocks.
On one street, they enjoy Elton John and Billy Joel. On the other, Marvin Gaye and Michael Jackson. Neither street likes R Kelly or Susan Boyle. So it seems the needs of each block are different. For example, on Leavitt Avenue, the residents here have no need for fancy materials such as asphalt or cement. Here, a mixture of clay, dirt and manure are what is called the road home.
Equally sufficient on Bell Avenue are diamond encrusted shock-absorbing speed bumps, to give their street that "we care for our children so we slow down" appearance, without actually having to dip below 40mph. One resident of Bell Avenue likened it to a divorce settlement, "It's what we have been accustomed to living here. We need to maintain a certain lifestyle and valet parking by DOR employees is part of that."
While speaking to Leavitt Avenue spoilsports/residents, this reporter noticed city crews immediately begin repairing potholes & installing large flower planters in the middle of the street that blocked traffic. One end of the street was given a traffic circle & at the other end, a cul-de-sac was created causing confusion & massive amounts of cost overruns & overtime.
An orange-vested guy named Vinnie leaned for dear life on a shovel, scratching his crotch like he was trying to start a fire, smiled and yelled to the guy replacing the newly planted flowers, "I can fix my fuckin' boat now wit dis ovatime, I got your Stimulus package right here!"

It's all just a matter of semantics.

Bell is an avenue; Leavitt is only a street.

Maintenance of AVENUES is only superceded by boulevards, plaisances, drives, roads, courts and parkways.

Streets and places are lowest. Therefore, residents of Leavitt St. must seek an upgrade to avenue or higher. Get 100,000 signatures to petition the city. If you want it to be Leavitt Boulevard, you must have private meetings with the aldercreatures of all wards in which Leavitt passes from Howard St. to 119th St.

It's da Chicago Way. Bringing a large stuffed envelope with you always helps. Didn't Toto bark? You ain't in Kansas anymore, Dorothy.

It's a shocker!

Hmmmm. Did Sgt. John Pallohusky, who is president of the Chicago Police Sergeants' Association, actually steal $1million from the union fund?
Michael Sneed

• Update: Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez is seeking to raise the $250,000 bail of Sgt. Pallohusky to $1 million "because it's thought Pallohusky, who was a big gambler, stole a lot more money than the original report of $600,000," said a source.

• To wit: Sneed is told 38 "hefty-sized" trash bags filled with financial documents were seized indicating the thefts "may have exceeded $1 million," the source added.

• The stunner: Pallohusky, who earns $65,000 annually, allegedly gambled away more than $90,000 at craps tables at the Las Vegas Hilton Resorts during nine days on three trips between July and September

OFF TOPIC...But Speaking of Easy Questions...

Just heard this on the WGN-TV Morning News, the Dean Richards Entertainments segment where he interviews Robin Williams about his new movie, and Chicago. Apparently the whole world knows what a fool Richie was to scream at us, "WE'RE BROKE!" at the same time he tries to get the 'Limpics.

Williams says, "That in Brazil, Waxing is going to be an Olympic event...Sonja will now go for the double...strrreeetttcchhh...Well Done! 4.6"

He went on to say that if Chicago had got the Olympics, "Traffic and parking would be an Olympic event. Now that you’re not getting the Olympics you've got some cash to spend on the streets."

Those observations are from a non-Chicagoan, and what about OPRAH! Was Daley’s Follie and Shortshanks’ Shortchanging the citizens finally enough for Her Majesty.

And Michael Scott, did Board of Ed funds pay for him and his entourage to go to Copenhagen on this fools errand. What other public funds were wasted.

the only things a politician cares about: 1) getting elected; 2) getting re-elected; 3) taking care of themselves, family, and close friends/allies....there are probably a few politicians in the worls who really care about their constitutents above and before themselves, but that's a rarity; the overwhelming number of pols have no character or integrity...

I've defended Alderman Rugai before and this time I don't see the issue. Should her neighbors be punished because she is the alderman. There might be a story if no other streets were done but even an alderman's street must be serviced.
If you want to say she has not publicly stood up to Mayor Dictator on behalf of the police and firemen then I'll agree but this, this is a non-story.. Again, she supported my son, a republican as am I, when my daughter passed and stood behind me in line, for Nate Taylor's wake, for over an hour, despite several people offering her a place ahead. She even said to one person that she was there to honor Nate, like the rest of us, and she would not cut in front of anyone. I'm sorry, though I wish she'd tell off Daley I have to respect her for the things I've mentioned.

And how the hell does a traffic circle cost $17,000?

Isn't that the real problem.
TRAFFIC CIRCLES SHOULD ALL BE REMOVED, THEY ARE HAZARDOUS. I'VE ALMOST BEEN HIT HEAD-ON 3 TIMES NOW, IN MT. GREENWOOD, DUE TO DRIVERS WHO DO NOT KNOW THE CORRECT WATY TO GO AROUND A TRAFFIC CIRCLE WHEN TURNING. PLANTS GROWING IN THEM ALSO, OBSTRUCT THE VIEW OF LOW VEHICLES COMING, LIKE SCOOTERS, MOTORCYCLES, CORVETTES, ETC. NO TRAINING WAS EVER GIVEN, NO VIDEOS TO SHOW CITY DRIVERS HOW TO NEGOTIATE THESE TRAFFIC CIRCLES, AND THEY REALLY DON'T SLOW DOWN TRAFFIC MUCH ANYWAY. JUST ANOTHER PROJECT THE CITY PROBABLY REWARDED PAY-TO-PLAY COMPANIES, WHO THEN KICKED BACK SOME TO THE DALEY DEMOC-RATS, AND TOGETHER, AGAIN, RIPPED OFF THE TAXPAYERS WITH THEIR BULLSHIT.

I'm sure the Alder-hogs Office will appreciate being noticed!

SO OUR STREETS FALL APART EVEN FASTER, SO DALEY CAN KEEP HIS PAVING COMPANY BUDDIES WORKING MORE, AND THUS GIVE HIM HIS REGULARLY SCHEDULED PAY-TO-PLAY KICKBACKS, WHILE THE TAXPAYERS , AGAIN, GET FUCKED. AND DON'T FORGET HIS $100 A POP RED-LIGHT CAMERAS, FOR SOME ADDITIONAL THIEVERY. IT'S AMAZING THAT YOU CAN INADVERTANTLY BREEZE THRU A RED LIGHT A SECOND TOO LATE IN THOUSANDS OF COMMUNITIES, AND IF YOUR FIRST OFFENSE, GET A WARNING, OR A $25.00 FIME, BUT HERE IN SHITCAGO, THE CAPITOL OF THIEVERY AND SHAKE-DOWNS, IT'S $100 BUCKS PLUS, RIGHT OFF THE BAT. OT: 2 Chicago officers reprimanded for G-20 behavior
November 24, 2009 8:21 PM | No Comments | UPDATED STORY

A Chicago police spokesman said two officers have been reprimanded after an investigation into an Internet video of behavior at the G-20 summit in Pittsburgh in September.

Chicago police spokesman Richard Drew said reprimands were issued to a department chief as well as a commander. Police wouldn't release their names.

The investigation began after a video circulated on the Internet that apparently shows about 15 police officers in riot gear posing for a photo with a man they detained kneeling in front of them. That man, Kyle Kramer, had been charged with failure to disperse.

His lawyer has said Kramer was returning to campus from a pizza parlor when he was detained by police who were rounding up protesters.

OFF TOPIC:

Another reason why NOT to do anything on this job.

The two owners of the E2 nightclub only get 2 year prison sentences, even though their actions and greed lead to the resulting deaths of 21 people.

Their sentencing hearing was like a "who's who" of Chicago politics. They had dozens of politicians and influential black business people testify as character witnesses.

These two men are painted as victims of overzealous prosecutors.

Twenty-one dead..and they get less jail time than..William Cozzi for striking an "out of control" drunk 6 or 7 times!

The saddest part is they defend these criminals as community "role models" BUT BLAME US FOR THE WHOLE INCIDENT!

EXAMPLE: "The spotlight has been put on the owners so it can deflect away from what actually happened that night,” said Cheryl A. Rainey, whose 25-year-old niece Nicole Rainey, died in the Feb. 17, 2003, tragedy at the E2 nightclub.

“There was no justice in the sentencing today, because many of us feel no death had to occur had the first responders responded differently, had they come out in rescue mode, rather than coming out for a ‘riot’ considering the number of police vs. the number of ambulances,” she said.

“Justice has not prevailed and justice has not been done,” U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush (D-IL) told reporters after the sentencing.

Rush questioned the emergency response to the incident, which authorities say began with a security guard using pepper spray in the crowded club. That triggered a rush to the front exit of the building that left the victims trapped on the stairwell.

Rush also wondered “if this [club] had been predominated by white citizens whether or not riot police would have been called rather than rescue police.”

Blame the police, unbelievable!

Happy Thanksgiving to all CPD officers, including P.O. Cozzi!

We've asked for stop signs at 112th Pl. and Kedzie for years because of all the accidents there, including a pedestrian struck and a car hitting a house.. Answer from Ginger: It's a state road and we cannot do it. Sounds like bullshit to me. Geez, how much can 2 stop signs cost. will it break the bank. If it was in Beverly, it would be done the next day. I'll remember that the next time they need a petition signed or a sign on the lawn.

Some of you are like helpless children. It's been years and you've not called your State Rep, preferring instead to let things pass so you can bitch about your alderman. Grow up and call your state rep.
If, in fact, it is true that Kedzie is a State road then what they said is true, call the state. Had a similar concern on my "Caps" beat and when the citizens called the right people the signs went up.. (in 006 by the way for those who will miss the point and joke about Caps, and no not from caps but forced to be a beat team member) Geez, who wipes your ass???

Not to mention they only have part time jobs and not full time jobs. Quit complaining and be thankful that you don't have a part time job like they do which only pays over $100K for their hard work and dedication.

First off, WATCH YOUR KIDS and you won't have a problem! Second, you knew where you were buying so if you didn't do your due diligence in factoring in traffic, its your fault! Third, an entire community is caught in a traffic stranglehold because the few on these blocks are too lazy to watch their children or don't want cars driving down their block.
It would be good for the vast majority in the community if the streets were opened up. Also, it would cut down on road rage incidents that occur after some goofs sit in the traffic snarl for so long.

You must not have ever chased a bad guy that is somewhat unfamiliar with the local terrain.

The bad guys and girls do not give a flying far rat's ass about a stop light, they will fly right through it no matter who they might mame or kill, but those traffic circles and cul-de-sac barriers mess them up every time.

They are the greatest things since society invented the hoard that preys on good, God-Fearing people. The hoard that is mobile, and unafraid to go anywhere in our city, but too stupid to plan the route to leave the area where good people reside. Get it?

I am quite happy to drive normally and tolerate a little inconvenience every now and then. It works out for the best. Get it?

Well, Drunk Lad, you were just trying to be a bit funny, and you succeeded, but Road Rager, you are just an asshole.

Road Rager, your exclamation that "WATCH YOUR KIDS and you will not have a problem!", is so infantile and small-minded. Do you honestly think that these crazed drivers limit the driving of their vehicles to street travel? These fools will drive 40 MPG down an alley to avoid a signal or a line of cars. They drive over sidewalks and parkways and lawns in their manic effort to avoid waiting at a light. One can watch their children alright. You can watch your kids be run over as they play in front of your house on the sidewalk.

I am done trying to explain it to you, Road Rager. __First off, I live further North and don't travel 111th often. I am concerned about the welfare of other citizens of the community. I am the antithesis of a road-rager. I get where I am going when I arrive. You jump to conclusions when you make such accusations.
Second, your children (or you) shouldn't be playing in the alley. And over the years visiting family who lived over there I never saw anyone driving on the sidewalk. You are being overly dramatic.
Third, peole like you act as if we have a big problem in this community with children being struck by vehicles. News flash: We don't. Cite one recent case in the community where a child was in front of his house on the parkway or sidewalk and was struck by a car. I will submit that one child is too many, but being a nanny state and selfish to the community as a whole by blocking off the public streets isn't right. As I said, you knew where you were buying. Refute that point if you can. The greater good for all should take precedence over the few on your blocks.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

How is this for a "refute" ? Let me get this straight. Your convenience, and your concern about the welfare of other citizens of the community, as you state your case, outweighs the life and/or safety of even one child?

If that is your belief, you are a fucking asshole. There, I have refuted your entire premise.

Besides, when did the definition for the word "welfare" become, "to do as you freaking please, including, driving a vehicle in any manner you prefer, no matter how dangerous it can prove to yourself or others"?

Here's a jolt! It was the community you mention, that fought for the very traffic control you claim should be eliminated for the welfare of other citizens of that same community!? Have you been drinking?

As you present your case, no community should be allowed to enact any traffic laws, such as speed limits, etcetera, because it is deleterious to the welfare of the community?! Have you been smoking 420? You are an idiot.

Now, because you live further north, try using 103rd Street, if you are so unhappy with 111th Street. Problem solved asshole!

But if you insist on using 111th Street, next time take a minute and turn to go north on Homan Avenue and travel to 109th Street. Once there, view the memorial on the northeast corner, which is the southwest corner of Mount Greenwood school. Read it and and be reverent, then leave my neighborhood and leave it as you found it. You are a fool.

Perhaps a major breakaway from the Beverly mafia would serve Mt.Greenwood well.I'm just thinkin

You're a city employee, and as such you should know better than to think.

I do agree that Mt. Shitwood should jettison itself from the evil grasp of the Beverly mafia and Chicago for that matter. Heck, now is the time to blaze a trail to success and prosperity: hire a marketing firm so you guys can polish that image a little and merge with the Robbins mafia or some other local landfill.

The "community" did not fight for those traffic controls. Those residents on the blocks did. That is a very small minority of the community as a whole. If the entire community had a say, those blocks wouldn't be closed off. You call me small-minded, but I am thinking about all the residents in the area, not just those on the blocks which are closed off.
Again I say, one child injured is too many, as I said in a previous post, but according to the logic you are going by, maybe we should all walk where we are going because cars kill. It is an extension of your own argument. That way no cars can hurt children. Of course that is ridiculous, but that is where your nanny-state mentality gets you.
The truth is that in our neighborhood, we don't have a problem with children getting hit by vehicles. The case cited was not recent (someone stated mid 1990's), though tragic. Repeat, TRAGIC. If you are worried about traffic on those blocks, have Ginger order regular traffic missions by the traffic section on those blocks to ensure proper driving. The ghetto aldermen get what they want all the time.
I will repeat, as some of you don't seem to comprehend, I previously stated that I don't use 111th that often because I live further North. I am basing my argument by my experiences and by what I hear from a great number of people who do use 111th.
One of you called me narcissistic, and the othe asked if I don't don't feel empowered because I say "we" instead of "I". You are both wrong. I say "we" because I am thinking in terms of the broader community as a whole. Had I said "I" maybe you could label me a narcissist.
One of you said, "Besides, when did the definition for the word 'welfare' become, to do as you freaking please, including, driving a vehicle in any manner you prefer, no matter how dangerous it can prove to yourself or others?"
Show me where in any of my statements I said anything even close to that. I do not condone poor driving habits. They should be punished. What I am for is simply opening up the streets for all to use legally (that includes all the retrofitted cul-de-sacs in Beverly). I also ask for responsible driving habits, responsible parenting, and pedestrians to follow the laws. I feel that these are reasonable requests.
To the individual who stated that he refuted my point, actually you dodged it. I will ask again in a specific way: Did you consider traffic patterns when you decided where to buy your residence?
Finally, name calling cheapens your argument.

A question for those of you who disagree with me on this issue: If we were to put a referendum on the next ballot which asks, "Should the streets between Sacramento and Kedzie on 111th Street be opened up for 2-way traffic in order to lessen congestion on 111th Street during rush hour?", which side would win? We could even change it to omit the part about congestion during rush hour. If we did that do you think the results would be different?
Your answer to that tells me whether we have any common ground to work from or whether we are too polarized.
I ask this question will all respect intended and hope it can be responded to in kind.

You are absolutely incorrect. Name calling does not cheapen my argument, however, it also does not enhance it, but I just somehow cannot resist calling you a fool and an idiot, as your nonsensical drivel irrefutably proves you as such.

Have a nice day goofball, and feel free to travel 111th Street from Sacramento to Kedzie anytime you like. I'll wave from my front porch as you sit there all red-faced and fucking verklempt.

And please spare me, along with the rest of the community you believe you represent and champion, of any further foolishness.

Don't go away mad, however, just go away you suburbanite blowhard, or blowsoft, whichever, but just blow away and begone! Your argument is so utterly foolish, it is hardly worthy of further comment, but please respond so I can have another good laugh at your convoluted thought process and beliefs. You are whack!

Thank you for you gracious concession speach. Your tacit admission that your argument has no substance has made my day!
I will, however, take a mooment to join you in the gutter: You would never be on your front porch to wave because you spend your day in your underwear on the computer in your moms basement spanking it while looking at the Obama website and drooling over all that he will do to make your life better.

Hey, that felt good. You have a nice day too. See you at TR's if mom lets you out. No, I won't. Its too classy a place for me.

Reasonable from the perspective of your bunker. Think decaf.
