Gee Whiz Governor...

  • She lost 20 teeth. She suffered a brain injury and seizures. And she struggled to pay her medical bills because she didn't have insurance.

Jen Hall was the victim of a brutal, disfiguring beating outside a Jewel store in the South Loop in August 2008.

Her attacker, Derrick King, was later sentenced to three years in prison for the crime. King, 48, went into state Department of Corrections custody in early October, but he was paroled only two weeks later under a policy change by Gov. Quinn's administration.

On Wednesday, Quinn announced he would reverse that policy, which allowed 1,781 inmates to leave prison early between Sept. 16 and Dec. 14 -- when the governor suspended the program.

So let's get this straight - there are potentially 1,780 other psychopaths on the loose in a mere three months of this program?

Does anyone else think that maybe, just maybe, there are another few dozen, possibly a hundred other stories of these early releases going bad? Anyone have the list of inmates released or is this going to be one of those FOIA requests that the media is going to have to pull to get things rolling?

See how clueless these media freaks, that play at being reporters of the news, can't even manage to point out that this shithead was never convicted, nor sentenced, for the actual crime(s) he committed.

Sure, they mention, in passing, that the jag off copped to a plea bargain, but to say that he was "...sentenced to three years in prison for the crime." misleads the casual readers of the scum times 'news' article into believing that the criminal acts, for which the shithead got a 3 year sentence, included the heinous violence committed upon the victim.

See. This just proves my point. Why bother doing ANYTHING! We follow the rules ( and common sense ) and lock these assholes up. The politicians change the rules ( showing no common sense ) and let them out.

Governor, if you wish to save the state money, why not do it the way the common folk do it and start right in your own house. How about lowering your salary? Last time I looked, you have that sweet mansion in Springfield to live in (rent free) so you don't have to worry about mortgage payments. How about the rest of the politicians take a pay cut? Or at least freeze their salaries?

What ever happened to "The Buck Stops Here?" Harry Truman (one of the greatest Presidents ever) had that sign on his desk. What it meant was he was ultimately in charge when someone or some federal agency messed up.

If Quinn is the man of the people that he says he is, he needs to take the blame for this mess in the prisons. The Buck stops at his desk in this state.

Throw violent people into prison and then letting them out after a couple of months to save a couple of million bucks is just plain dangerous to the people.

At least I have a handgun to defend myself, it is too bad the average Joe can't in this state.

One has to wonder why the state's attorney did not try to convict on the more serious charges?

the criminals know the system . . . just plea to a lesser charge then the state's attorney gets a "win" in their win column and bad guy does minimal time.

OR, the state's attorney did not have the competence or the cajones to take the matter seriously and try to convict the beast.

there's an old story about police officer calling felony review to get PSMV charges. "Offender had keys? no charges." typical story. then the victim, an ASA, called felony review and miraculously the charges were approved after further review. ASAs forget when a crime is committed, they represent the victims, not their "win column."

The real question here, as I see it, is that this viscious street mope nearly beat an innocent young women to death and was only sentenced to 3 years in prison, then given time off for good behavior? I would like this to happen to the wife or mother of a prominant person and see what the guy would get. The citizens just do not matter to the courts or the the county ASA, only getting their numbers and clearing the court calender so they can go play golf. The democratic party is responsible for this, they slate and elect the judges and the prosecuter and run the prisons. The answer is NO TIME OFF FOR GOOD BEHAVIOR. There is no empirical evidence to show that time off for good behjavior works to calm the prison inmates and hold down violance. This atate law is just some theory of a few. Even in Crook County three years is a little light for this ATTEMPT MURDER!

I'm not giving a pass to the ASAs and the judge, but this victim clearly signed-off on this agg batt plea bargain. Even she doesn't complain about the sentence, only the fact that he didn't serve any of it.

Lesson for everyone, including fellow cops: If you're the victim of a crime and you don't insist on justice, you ain't gonna get it, especially here. This woman should have been screaming her head off on TV once this POS was sentenced to 3 years. My guess is that she just wanted it to all go away and let Derrick King be someone else's problem in a year and half.

That said, no judge outside of cook county would sign off on a 3 year sentence in a case like this. If this happened in Texas, he would be spending 50-60 years behind bars.

Cook County is really the shithole of the universe. Derrick King should be the president of the Cook County board, for he truly represents the soul of this county and its citizens.

I would have cut them to pieces (or died trying) and if we had concealed carry I would have blown their goddam brains out. They deserve nothing less, fucking savages.

The problem is most white people are afraid of these pieces of shit and the dogs know it and they are getting a lot more brazen. Under Governor Quinn's new plan, some people will not only get released directly from court, having already earned more Merit Time than their entire sentence, (at the rate of 65 days good time for each day served inside) but they will be able to submit a bill for payment to the state of Illinois for money owed them due to serving more than their sentence.

Under that plan, the guy who beat that women will be released on his current charges by next Wednesday due to his good behavior and not beating anyone unconscious while in solitary confinement in jail.

I know your heart is in the right place. However, you must consider that uninformed visitors may read your post and draw egregious and erroneous conclusions by your use of the word "wheelchair" without explanation.

THE MUTT WAS ABLE-BODIED! He continued to wreak havoc from the wheelchair while cuffed. Hospital personnel seated him in the wheelchair for mobility purposes before Cozzi's arrival. When all efforts failed to have the mutt behave himself, Cozzi gave him a few harmless "pimp slaps" causing him to shut up and stop spitting at people. He began to softly giggle; no injuries.

What would you have done?

Cozzi made a mistake and paid a draconian penalty: TWO YEARS SUSPENSION WITHOUT PAY!

Then before he's even sworn in, this half-cocked, sadistic, psychopathic, careerist WEISel runs to his fed pals and tags Bill with gross "overkill"--a civil rights violation which results in a FORTY (40) month prison sentence a thousand miles from home and his loved ones. There was no Christmas Mass last Friday.

At the stroke of midnight with couples kissing, champagne flowing and revelers singing "Auld Lang Syne", it will be just another night for Bill, locked in a cell.

Bill phoned me this afternoon. He wishes all of us a happy, healthy, safe and prosperous 2010. He also asked me to thank more than 200 folks who mailed Christmas cards that brought some cheer to his otherwise miserable situation.

Please keep those letters coming.

I will NOT vote for the Idiot Quinn. Despite Chicago's archaic
gun laws I always have a weapon (secured) in my home. I'm just not stupid enough to walk around with one. The early release was moronic. Did he consult anyone in LE? Quinn should resign now.

Jen Hall and her boyfriend should have kept their mouths shut and kept walking, instead they confronted this fool and paid the price. Can you say common sense...

How can you blame the victim? You should be ashame of yourself.

I agree with the first poster. I wouldn't say it's blaming the victim, but a lot of these city yuppie whatever you want to call them, don't have the sense God gave them. And they don't seem to get any smarter living in the city, which I find amazing. Keep scanning the horizon. If you see some piece of garbage walking towards you, if they try to talk to you, come up to you, move to block your path, whatever, keep walking. There's nothing to say but bullshit. Just keep walking. She'd still have all her teeth if she had kept her mouth shut and moved on. And since she got the worst of it, the boyfriend who was with her must be quite an asshole.

From what I've read of Miss Hall's injuries, I was just wondering why her attacker was not charged with attempt murder? I'm not condong Gov. Quinn's actions, but wondering how did the attacker in this case get off with a sentence of only three years? Did the SA's office do as they so often do, reduce the charge and accept a plea for a lesser crime to avoid trying the case, or was it a liberal judge who took pity on the culprit? When will we start to see the victims of crimes getting the justice they so rightly deserve?

I'm confused. Don't we have an empty prison somewhere out in western Illinois? I just can't figure out the "overcrowding" issue. Must be me.

So..because she said something to him, she is somehow culpable for this? Walking downtown is like walking through a minefield these days. These OFFENDERS have multiplied like mushrooms because they haven't been challenged or arrested for years. Like wild dogs, if you make eye contact, it's on.

Anyone, even a 'mouthy broad' should be able to walk downtown without an ass kicking that necessitates brain surgery.

Years ago, the IDOC had an agent right at 26th street bond court that would file violations for any parolee charged with a felony. Then they cut that out and had the LEADS people working there do it for them. Then they only accepted violations on a narrow class of crimes.

Illinois can't afford it anymore. There are too many useless things that have to be paid for first.

Did I miss the part where this will be charged as a hate crime? Oh yeah, that's right, that charge doesn't seem to go both ways. Run Jesse Run will be on TV any minute now to express his outrage about this crime.

1. What did she have to say to him? Nothing. Let me give you an example:

No, I don't have a cigarette.
No, I don't have a solid quarter.
No, I don't want any socks.

Get my drift? So why say anything. Keep your mouth shut, move out of range of arms, legs or whatever keep walking, hopefully faster than the pond scum can think.

2. You do not make eye contact. Yeah, it is a minefield. And as such one should watch out for exploding objects, like people who spend their Social Security check on crack instead of their meds or unpredictable drunkards or homeless assholes that are upset with society because they can't seem to function in it.

3. Do you want to exercise your right to shoot your mouth off or do you want to keep your teeth?

It's simple, these areas are no place for children and adults should know better.

And, no, she didn't deserve to get what she got, but if she used some common sense, she could have avoided it. If you dig saving people, then you're in the right profession. And I sure want the police to be there for me if I need them, I just don't want to be part of the reason they have to come.

I'm sorry if I'm not as emotional about shit as you are but I think most of life's problems can be avoided with a little common sense.

@not a cop - well said.

Back before the Howard-Englewood-
Jackson Park L became the all-f'ing-
stops Red Line, when the green and
white railcars had windows covered
in greasy pomade replete with the
occasional hair, slashed seats with
broken springs, mumbling conductors,
and smelled like burnt fluorescent
lamp ballasts at best, I was a DePaul
student.

I lived over by the Jarvis L, CTA
being my only means of transportation.

As a woman, I learned some new skills
fast, including:

*Put on your "don't f-with me" game
face.
*Walk like you know where you're
going and how to get there - don't
wander around like a stupid tourist.
*Don't wear or carry anything that
makes you look like a good target.
Leave the gold jewelry to Mr T and
the Marshall Field's bags to some
Mag Mile rich bitch.
*Don't talk to anyone you have no
reason to talk to. Ignore panhandlers,
bums, etc.
*Know where you go - taking the #36
Sedgwick bus through Cabrini-Green
after the "Happy Bus" driver's shift
ends might not be such a great idea.

And this was back when Chicago cops
were respected and held in high esteem
by the good, and the force most feared
by the evil.

Fence the mutts off in their own area
(like Mad Max 2, Escape from NY, etc.)
and let them fight it out amongst
themselves. Or, is that what CPS is
for?
