God Job to Po's!

O.T. Could anyone tell me why the union contracts for the Lt's and Captain's association are so secretative. Apparently anyone can navigate through their websites but not everyone can access the contracts(need username/password).
Why is it that the FOP's and the Sgt. Association's contracts are available to everyone but not the Lt's. and Captain's. Is this public information or not?
I was just curious because I'm on one of promotional lists (if any are ever made again) but am trying to verify somethings but can't.

Someone was telling me that the Lt.'s & Captains sold the rest of us out because to be eligilbe to be promoted for Lt & Cpt. there are numerous additional requirements (financial/physical) to be met which includes the passing of the P.O.W.E.R. test even though those things weren not requirements when we started the job 20+ years ago. Do these changes apply only to new hires or to potential new promotees also?
Anyone have any additional information on this? Can the city arbitrarily just change the rules of the game in the middle of the game? What old timer do you know that has perfect finances (no divorce/major illness/child support/tuition) and is in tip top shape?

IT APPEARS THAT.... even though we all know that that crime is certainly on the way out of this city, with at the very least a 12 percent plummet thanks to the great leadership of CPD excempt staff making the most of what little ragtag force that they have left,,, the last remaining criminal elements of this city although scattered and frayed are faced with the unpalatable prospect of surrender or to face the latest wrath of the newest and unyielding CPD crime initiatives.

It is now fundamentally clear (and some of us dared to doubt Supt. Jody Weis)that the few remaining criminals that have not been eliminated have elected to shoot it out with police rather than to face the seeminly unending horizontal deluge of felony charges that flow minute to minute from the ASA`s office in this war on crime.

FURTHERMORE... I am certain that more good news will come from the CPD statistical anaylisis center as crime is all but eradicated since the the FBI has grabbed this dept by the jugular and forced it to perform like our esteemed Mayor always knew it could.

To the City of Chicago a labor contract tends to be merely a list of suggestions, not something to actually adhere to.

The City breaks the FOP contract when it suits it's needs and then forces the FOP to file a grievance and go to arbitration. Once in arbitration the City then has a 50/50 chance of prevailing, thus neutralizing the offending contract language.

This is the new dirty underhanded richard m. daley way of getting back what they can't get through negotiation.

No one should ever doubt the existence of downright evil in the heart of 42 short. Officers blame all sort of misdeeds on the FOP when the real head of the axis of evil sits on his throne on the 5th floor of City Hall.

Don't doubt that for a second.

The "current" (old) contract is available on the CPLA website. The password protected area was for proposals and counterproposals made by both the city and the union. This was part of the agreement not to negotiate in public. Since the contract was recently ratified by the union's very narrow approval vote, once it's officially approved by the City Council it will be posted and replace the "old" contarct on the site now.

I would think the city can change the requirements for the Lts and Capts whenever they choose. Since I've been on the job they changed the Sgts requirement and didnt grandfather anyone in. When I became a PO you did not need any college to become a Sgt., now you do and the po's who were on the job before that requirement couldnt say it wasnt that way when I came on. They had to get the required 2 years of college so I dont see why the city cant change the requirement for the Capts and Lts

I am glad that all the officers are okay and that it has all worked out, but I do have a bit of a bone to pick. I was on the scene at the recent shooting in 006. Late night shooting, dark yards and alleys, freezing cold. Interestingly enough, no light truck, no command van, no support units (i.e. SORT, SWAT). I see the video of the shooting scene in 016, same situation. Yet MSF gets in a shooting an hour and a half later and lo and behold, light truck, Command Van, SORT, SWAT, hell I think I saw the National Guard! (Sarcasm) My point is where are all these assets when the lowly district guys need them? Where is all this equipment? Are the districts not worthy? In 006 we got a silly black brinks truck with a freaking Kmart work light taped to a ladder for support. Sort of makes you feel like SOS has risen from the grave. The FOP & Sgt can make it where it is private to members only on thier web site even if it is public info. As far as the promotions requiring certain things that can be up to some legal challenges. I was told by a lawyer that if they were not requirements when the test was given that canidates can argue that the city is changing the requirements in the middle of the list that is up. It wouldn't matter what the requiremments were when you can on the job, but what they were when you took the test.

I'm a law-abiding citizen and a gun owner, and I agree with you sir! Keep up the good work. Remember guys, not all of us citizens are against you, or think you are being too harsh.

Harsh to me is me getting pulled over for speeding (the extent of my criminal infractions) and getting verbally abused - thankfully this has never happened with the CPD. As for "real" criminals..for fucks sake, keep on shooting them. If they'd enact CCW, we'd help you. I can only imagine what a circus that would be though.

1. Tort reform.
2. Police contract/hiring
3. Strengthening of castle doctrine/Make My Day law(s)
4. Dissolve unconstitutional handgun ban.
5. Legalize CCW w/ FOID, range qualification, and some classroom time on use of firearms and the law...all for a minimal, reasonable fee (say $250 for 5 years).

Keep fighting the good fight. Things will either turn around eventually, or we'll all have moved out and left the city to the dogs by then.

Officers... Continue lighting that ass on fire in order to go home to your loved ones. This is all part and parcel of 42 extra-short's vendetta aided and abetted by j-fart & the exempts, emboldening these dogs to commit brazen attacks against Police Officers.

Absolutely NO ONE in a position to be able to give a shit about us gives a shit about us, BUT US!

Remember, these are the smartest, bravest, most experienced & street savvy Police Managers (ugh!) in the history of CPD. Their response to the toilet of society overflowing is skewing crime stats, shrinking the department through attrition and picking Policemen's pockets during the holidays to generate additional b.s. write-ups with enhanced sanction. (So predictable as to be pathetic and a legacy of avowed Police hater, forcibly retired D/S C.W. & his ilk)

This is the best they have to offer, they have no real answers to fix what they had a hand in breaking. So funny to see bosses trying to emulate the blue shirts by going into survival mode. We reckon "those pukes in Patrol" know a thing or three about survival huh bosses?

As far as these dogs who like to point guns at the Police... We are obligated to give them all the death & destruction they can stand. If violence is the only language you understand, we speak it fluently.

Did you request any support? Did anyone?

Question...Why in the blue hell do you have to request support when a fellow officer is involved in a shooting? Support should be mandatory! "Shots fired at..." or "Shots fired by..." the police is tantamount to a 10-1! There should be hordes of blue and whites screaming to the scene to offer support. SWAT, SORT, MSF, TRU, D-unit, Helicopter, Lions, tigers and bears...Oh my!!!! The mere fact that there is a "shots fired" call made by the police is a request for help in and of itself!!! So to answer your question...did anyone call for support? YES!!! The officer that fired those shots called for support the moment he/she called it out on the air!!!
