Moron Reporter

A follow up on the "Whoa Dude...Slow Down" posting:
  • The attempted robbery went horribly wrong -- so wrong that the target of the crime ended up shooting and killing one of the alleged robbers after getting hold of a gun that had been used to force him into a car, sources said.

Now, a 16-year-old boy is charged with murder and armed robbery in connection with the Tuesday night incident in the Garfield Boulevard neighborhood on the South Side, Chicago Police said Friday.

  • At some point, some members of the group, including the teen, went to a restaurant and left another alleged accomplice, Barbara McComb, 21, of the 4200 block of South Calumet, guarding the man with a gun, sources said.

A struggled ensued, and the target says he seized the gun and shot and killed McComb. A Thursday autopsy determined McComb died of several gunshot wounds. The death was ruled a homicide, authorities said.

Horribly wrong? How so? Why should a robbery ever go "horribly right?" This was so very close to being the best possible outcome in our humble opinions. Too bad the victim didn't shoot more of them.

This reporter is an idiot. And yes, we noticed her name - don't go for the cheap laugh.

What a pity you neglected to link to the article. However, we’ve all read crap like that before. Twist the crime around and blame the victim.

With the ethical standing of the popular press what it is, I can only conclude they feel a fraternal bond with the violent criminals out there that compels them to write sympathetic articles about them. While it is true most journalists do not physically assault us (owing to their cowardly nature), they certainly do our minds on a regular basis.

Sun-Times reporter Sally Ho must be a kneejerk liberal neophyte. A streetwise editor should have a talk with her about a robbery that went "horribly wrong".

Too bad that robber Barbara McComb wasn't joined at the morgue by her accomplices. Reporter Ho apparently doesn't recognize a happy ending.

What's with the "Garfield Boulevard" neighborhood? There is no such neighborhood.

The incident occurred in BRONZEVILLE in the heart of the Deuce.

Wow, that Ho needs to learn how to write. Reading the comments on the scum-times site, at least gives me a reason to hope for our future. Yes, a few pathetic comments crying for the perp who was shot. But many more lamenting that more of the losers are not pushing daisies.

Ain't no such thing as horribly wrong. Daddy always said, "if you're going to draw, you better be ready to shoot."

Uh huh.

Just read the Sun-Times article. The following was in the comment section: It is so sad that this poor, unfortunate woman lost her life because of a youthful indiscretion. The victim stated that he feels terrible for taking her life. It is a tradegy for both of them. Perhaps the young boy who has been charged with murder will be able to turn his life around in the coming years.

Youthful indiscretion? I remember when a youthful indiscretion was when you snuck out with your friends to smoke or drink beer. I can't really remember anyone from my youth ever committing an armed robbery.

Terrible tragedy for both of them? Well, one maybe. But not both.

And the final show of lack of intelligence was when the poster hopes that the young boy (notice they used the term BOY, not man) may turn his life around in the coming years.

I hope he never gets the chance. Is this what are society has come to? More sympathy for the offender? I don't give a rats ass in hell that this poor child who was JUST ABOUT TO TURN HIS LIFE AROUND should be afforded ANY sympathy. Give him his day in court. And when he's found guilty, lock him in a room with more savages and let him enjoy the fruits of his labor. He gave up any right to be looked on with any sympathy when he decided to take part in an armed robbery.

There are no more "street smart" editors in Chicago anymore, just like there are no more street smart reporters. The state of journalism in this city is a disgrace; We used to have "Newspapermen" who hung out with the cops and in the firehouses. Instead now it's just a bunch of neophyte liberals who all cried when Obama was elected.

Either way, where was the City Editor or Copy Editor on this one?

I guess with all the cuts at the newspapers in town, you get what you pay for.

It's a shame that this city doesn't have true media coverage. The citizens of Chicago should feel cheated, there is so much going on that should be covered right.

Ms. Ho is a rookie reporter and recent graduate of the School of Journalism at the University of Colorado (Boulder).

With all due respect for her Asian ancestry, she really should consider changing her surname, at least for newspaper bylines.

There is no such thing as true media coverage. It's always poor this person and poor that person even though may be the cause of their own problems. That is never brought out in print, but the savvy reader can read between the lines. It would be a delight if someone started a more convervative paper for Chicagoans who are tired of the liberal hype.

For all you Kass fans out there, and those of you who tie guilt by association, ie., the Daley crime family; here's a little blurb in the Sun Times about John Kass's Uncle Nick

"Nicholas Blase | Pleaded guilty: Oct. 31, 2008.
The longtime mayor of Niles pleaded guilty to mail fraud and tax evasion, admitting he steered businesses to buy insurance from an agency that paid him $420,000 in kickbacks over 20 years. Blase, 81, is to be sentenced Jan. 29.

Ok, the lede is pretty terrible and you are right--and editor should have changed it. It's editorializing and confusing--does she mean the robbery was foiled for the offenders or that it's horribly wrong that the teen was charged with murder?

I personally know she meant the robbery was foiled for the offenders. I also personally know that Sally is a new, very young reporter. Sally is also friends with many officers in the city and not at all a "liberal POS." But instead of valid criticism, let's pull out the racist jokes and sexism.

Ugh.
