Cozzi Update

From the comments:
  • OT---COZZI UPDATE--IMPORTANT

I just got off the phone w/Bill and he said arguments on his appeal are beginning on Feb. 18.
He and his lawyers do not have any idea how successful they will be, so everyone please pray.

Bill also said that he is still in the process of writing everyone who wrote to him, and is able to get out 50-60 letters per week. He did not want to send a form letter, so he is writing everyone individually because he is so grateful to those of you who took time to write him.

Bill is still EXTREMELY depressed, and keeps to himself and said he always has to have an eye open both ahead and behind him.

As far as visiting, he said he does not want to jeopardize anyone coming to see him. He stressed that the part of the country he is in is crime-ridden and the people do not like northerners. He said he thinks it is too dangerous for anyone to make the trip, and he will not even let his family come to see him. He also said that the prison personnel treat northerners badly and he does not want anyone to have to go through that to see him.

His lawyers are still working on getting him transferred closer to Chicago, but understandably are more occupied with his appeal.

Bill said that although we tend to bad-mouth Chicago, since he considers himself 'at the gate of Hell,' that he still loves the city and the CPD.

He said he has enough books and magazine subscriptions and he is grateful to the two persons who have arranged for him to get the Tribune. He said getting mail, reading the Trib, and going to bed are the only highlights in his day. I had been sending him news clippings, but the prison sent them back.

I am thinking that Bill might like some photos, maybe of the old district, maybe a roll call, Chicago landmarks, anything funny, etc.

Please keep sending cards and letters. He really can't receive much else.

I will add another update next time I talk to him.

    Thanks,

    One of Bill's friends
Bill's address continues to occupy the upper right corner of the main page and it only costs 44 cents to mail a letter.

I have always been aglass half full type. Now I am not too familiar with this procedure, but should Bill win his appeal, does he get his job back?

And lets say he gets out either by appeal or serving his sentence, who out there wold hire this man? If i owned a business I know I would. Is someone going to step up and give this victim a truly deserved second chance?

Any hard working person who owns a business would hire him. He made a mistake and paid for it. I for one would love to have someone like him working for our business. I hope many reach out to him when he is released, including myself. This could of been any of you. I know many will say you would not of done what he did to get into this situation but none of you know that for sure. It was a mistake, and many of us have made worse ones. Let's not judge, let's reach out.

All Bill wants is letters, cards and news from the outside. He is currently receiving the Trib and if you cut out articles to send him they will be returned.

You can however, reprint a newspaper article and send that along with the letter and it will not be returned.

I also at times copy this blog and comments (especially the funny ones) and send those as well.

He has developed a deep hatred for the savage inmates and the state of LA. He keeps to himself and talks to no one.

Letters and cards keep him going.

certain people have to be treated a special way when being arrested or they will not learn their lesson and repeat the same transgression again--- assailants and active resistors--- the last several dust ups at the district resulted in no k.o. which means shitbird will be even more bold next time... can you blame the coppers, not really, nobody wants to be sent to unit 376 to rot before being given 30 pending separation.... nobody wants to go through what officer cozzi is experiencing... we have been reduced to a tiger with no teeth, a beast that still roars but does not bite... sad, how very sad, not only for the hard working members of this department but also for the citizens.... keep your head up billy, you have a lot of living left in you when you get out....

Although I'm on disability and no longer "in the loop," my first letter was sent to Bill very recently. He was kind enough to reply, pretty much stating the same thing as posted by Bill's friend. Father Nangle's article in the newsletter told of the same horrific conditions Bill faces on a daily basis. Here is the website for the facility where Bill is incarcerated: http://www.bop.gov/locations/institutions/oak/index.jsp This site has instructions for mailing letters and packages, available in a PDF format. It also links to other info as to how to send money, visiting hours, etc. I believe there are phone numbers listed for this place. What I would like to know - can we show up in court to support his appeal? Can someone who has access to this info please inform us so we can be there for his hearing as we were for Mike in Iowa? I would ask everyone to remember that this job brings us in contact with with evil, and it is arrogant to think that you will never get hurt, killed, or make a momentary lapse in judgement. Keep this little saying in mind,
There but for the grace of God, go I." Please let's continue to support our brother in blue.

Bill does not have access to a computer. I copy and paste SCC into word, then print it and send it to him, along with some of the comments.

I just had surgery so can't do it, since my ink runs out fast and it's hard for me to get out and get refills.

Can someone step up and do that?
I sent him through Sunday.

He can't receive food or anything else. You can send money, but I don't think he'll accept it. I don't think he needs stationary and he has to buy stamps thru the commisary.

He gets The Wall Street Journal, Runner's World, Bicycling, and some others.

If you have sent him a sub, post it on here and I will make a list.

He said there is a crappy track where he runs 2-3 miles a day, but there are no weights or anything else.

And yes, if you are from above the Mason/Dixon line, you are a Northerner and yes, they do not like you, and yes, it IS like
Deliverance down there.

Just pray for him. They don't like Catholics either, and did not have a Catholic mass over Christmas, but they had Baptist and Muslim ceremonies.

Bill is going to make it and I hope the Judge that gets this case sees it for what it is... the cold ,calculated, politically motivated double cross of a public servent by a j-fool that is owned and operated by the emotionally disturbed mayor of the city of chicago. As the cps children and the citizens of this city are repeatedly shot, beaten, robbed, burglarized and intimidated by the ghetto dogs and gangbanger punks that are allowed to accumulate scores of arrests and double secret probation, violate that and dress in and dress out of stateville while an honorable man is in prison is straight-up fucking crazy.
A word to the wise...the city is sending every cop with any time and a trumped up CR# to the crooked police board to get laid off for good. They don't even look at the evidence any more they just sign off. So sit back and watch the fashionably dressed clouted boss's sons do the dumb shit and everyone else should concentrate on staying alive and 20 and out. This is the truth.

YUP!

Thanks j-fart! Thank you for ruining this man's life just to prove you're the Big Bad Police-Punisher.

You revealed just what you are by back-dooring a MAN who was overly punished for what is essentially a non incident.

You didn't like it that he served an over-long suspension for putting a shit-bird in check.

It wasn't enough for you that this POLICEMAN took his lumps in court.

You had no idea about the back story to all of this yet you arrived with with hatred in your eyes. You were going to show those dumb local yokel Chicago Coppers who was boss. So you did an end run around the process to have this Man FEDERALLY INDICTED ON A 1983 VIOLATION ONE DAY BEFORE HE WAS SCHEDULED TO RETURN TO WORK AFTER SERVING A TWO YEAR SUSPENSION?

WHAT THE FUCK WAS YOUR POINT?

The dog that got slapped WAS A DOG! Even he didn't press this issue so guess what j-fart? YOU ARE THE FATHER OF THIS UGLY MISSHAPEN BABY CALLED "THE COMPLETE and UTTER RUINATION of CPD."

Yeah, jody The Police Punisher...

You are a coward! You should genuflect on the tops of your shoes and bow your stinking head even in the presence of a Police Recruit let alone Officers in the field.

You're a poor excuse for a man, husband and the world is a happy place for you not being any child's father because of your abject cruelty.

We wonder how you yourself can be called anyone's child.

In days past, a real father with a son like you would damn you to hell and the devil from his deathbed...

You're a vampire... Hollow, empty and unable to even see a refection of yourself or cast a shadow but you bring torment to all around you.

You soulless, loveless pimp!

We hope you have nightmares of your sure to come eternal torment.

In years to come, POLICEMEN will point at your grave and laugh.

Hell... POLICEMEN point at you now and laugh.

Nothing in this life or the next can justify what you've done.

Oh well, you're not human so you don't care...

Bill's brother told me if we want to send magazines or books we have to have it sent through AMAZON. Sure they sent back the magazines but kept the cash I sent him in November.

Now you wouldn't think that is such a "southern" area but on a Sunday we went out to eat and then a coffee shop. Despite this posters appalling lack of grammar, he is right. Those who persecuted and prosecuted you will never enjoy the splendor and delight of living in the light as a free righteous man. They will never enjoy the admiration and respect of other free men either.

They have enslaved themselves to evil and corruption; they have no conscience or soul. They have no self-esteem and dwell in a gruesome pity of despair. They are subhuman and worthy of only pity.

When you again feel the warming light of freedom upon your face you’ll be experiencing something they will never have and do not deserve.

Way Off Topic!

fibune on-line is running an article about 42 extra-short canselling the 3rd of July fireworks display at the waste of Chicago for this year.

Could this be an admission that CPD has been dangerously and intentionally undermanned for years?

Note the fiascoes of 3rd July 2009 and 2008.

This also means shory definitely is NOT going to be hiring and that there will be no promotions.

This is going to be a most mean and ugly summer...

Protect yourselves and each other. Nobody cares. Period. Full Stop.

Shotguns & rifles in the trunks... Shorty and j-fart & the exempts would much rather come to a Policeman's funeral then laugh about it afterwards than for us to be fully able to protect ourselves.

Everyone that is in a position to give a damn has seemingly turned their backs on CPD... Up to and including the majority of citizens.

Refuse to give them the satisfaction of seeing us laying another one of our own to rest.

Survive!

Retirement seems to be it's own reward now.

OT.. and sorry to do this on the Cozzi update. However this does somewhat go with it. Congrates to Bernicho and Murphy for being found NOT GUILTY!!!! Once again the ASA rushes to charge coppers for some Felony BS without having elements to a crime. This was never a criminal situation and should have never been treated as such.
These stars have turned into bullseyes for people trying obtain political gain without ever thinking of officers and their families. The financial losses and mental losses are so overwhelming and yet they have no remorse for their actions.
This not only effects the officers involved but every officer working the streets. due to these parasites some citizens have lost confidence in the police. What the citizens never hear about however is how many of the officers are found not guilty because of the BS.
Once again CONGRATES, Good to have you back where wou should have always been.

pinch me is the Civil War over or what?
---------

There never was a Civil War in this country. There was The War between the States, which was fought over states' rights and the Northern Aggression. During the War Between the States, the superiority of the southern man resulted in the Confederacy inflicting many more casualties upon the enemy than the Union did. Lastly, the majority of the best generals from West Point sided with the south. A man like Lee could never fight against Virginia.

I would hope that Bill Cozzi could see that there will be a life for him, in the future....I still can't believe that J-Fed did what he did....to me, his actions are testament to his absence of humanity and soul, a total lack of common sense....just another example of an organization manager or supervisor, who relies on company rules as a crutch upon which they rely to support their legitimacy and authority (hey, we got rules here!), without examining the rationality and legitimacy of the very rules they are trying to enforce; all the while, pointing to their titles and positions as verification that they are entitled ("I am the best") to that position (ignoring the political corruption that enabled them to be selected to the position in the first place)...

I think he's a hero because he's down there doing time and is doing it the hard way. He never once has M-fed J-Putz or anyone else to me, and his heart is still on the CPD. He's a hero simply for the fact that he is surviving down in that hellhole, and doesn't even want anyone to visit him lest they get hurt.

He has a lot of magazine subscriptions and books.

Really what he wants is letters, cards, whatever. Something to connect him to the job he loved so much. I sent him my 20 year star patch.

Just write to him--send him jokes, whatever. Just write him and keep writing to him. I've never met him before and have been writing him regularly for a few months.

Send the blog if you can.

Thanks,

I sent him 2 subscriptions: Chicago Magazine and Time Out Chicago so he can kind of see a glimpse of the goings on in Chicago. I hope he is getting them, had them sent directly to him.

And yes, don't send anything older than 2 months old for magazines. They will be sent back to you, the prison citing that bs rule about it affecting sanitary conditions or fire hazard or some such nonsense.

Please go to the prison website and read what can and cannot be sent.

Clothing and hygiene items CANNOT be sent. DON'T send money/USC. You are able to send him funds into his account there, but you need to read the website to see how exactly that's done (wire? cashier's check? i forget.)

I sent him through Sunday.

Yes, I will be happy to do it. I worked with Cozzi in 25 and have kept in touch with him during this ordeal.

LETTERS, LETTERS AND MORE LETTERS FOR BILL.

No postage stamps, food, clothing, iPods, etc. He must purchase from the prison commissary. He currently has his personal limit on paperback books in his cell.

While Bill has not asked, if you wish to contribute to his commissary funding or need other specific information, link to www.BOP.gov for particulars.

For contributions, click on "Inmate Matters" atop the page. Then click on "Inmate Money" in left column. Then read "Western Union Quick Collect Program" instructions. There is a $10 fee, regardless of your contribution. This WU resource is available at most banks and currency exchanges throughout the nation.

All hardcover books must be shipped directly from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Borders or other bookstores. HE CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF YOUR LETTERS! Until further notice, please just send letters to Bill. He eventually responds to all. He has no Internet access whatsoever. He can't have a radio or TV in his cell. The only televisions are in the three rec rooms. By inmates' choice, each room is generally frequented by either whites, blacks or Hispanics. Bill does not use the rec rooms.

While that name rarely comes up in our phone conversations, this humble, self-effacing gentleman refers to that sadistic, psychopathic, careerist, weasel muthafucka as "Superintendent Weis."
Burn in Hell, you rat cocksucker!

The Thursday, February 18th (3 judge panel)hearing before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, 219 S. Dearborn St. is open to the public.

A pair of South Side officers attempted to visit Bill while doing missionary work in Central Louisiana. Visitor paperwork is extensive and time consuming. Unless and until you receive further notice to the contrary, do not waste your time contemplating a thousand mile trip for naught.

However, the South Side officers did make contact with some nuns (Mother Teresa's order) in Lafayette, an hours drive south of Oakdale. We are in the process of making arrangements for the good sisters to visit Bill. He was unable to attend Mass and receive communion on Christmas Day.

Before posing any further questions, please check the U.S. Bureau of Prisons site at www.BOP.gov for extensive information.

Also, if you are an active or retired officer above the rank of P.O., please ask Bill to address you by your first name. Out of respect, he will return a letter addressing you by your rank. If he calls you "chief", etc., tell him to please call you "Mike" (or whatever).

In your letters, Bill's main interest is what's happening in Chicago and the CPD. He does receive the monthly FOP newsletter and many magazine subscriptions.

Two lieutenants, both retired from 025, somehow circumvented the Trib's refusal to send 3 delayed issues of that newspaper each week. All newspapers must come directly from the publisher via subscription.

While I'm not really into FACEBOOK, there is a "Free Bill Cozzi" site.

LETTERS, LETTERS AND YOUR PRAYERS.

FREE BILL COZZI!

My sentiments exactly. Bill has acted with class. He will get a kick out of all the support. He really sounded low. Just write, write. Let's bury those rednecks in letters to him. They're still pissed off about the Civil War.

We couldn't save our brothers and sisters who died in the line of duty, but we are all capable of throwing a lifeline to Bill--and perhaps making his time there a little easier.

Just take a minute to think about what life is like in his shoes. He's a class act--I would be sticking pins in a Jody doll's private parts and throwing some bad Mojo from LA on him.

It kills me that these dirtbag m'fers get rollbacks and he sits there. Maybe we ought to send some of those early release dudes over to Jody's. ASSHAT EXTRAORDINAIRE.

Thanks a lot. I don't know you, but I don't know Bill either. I just know he bleeds blue like a lot of us and we have to stand up for our brother. That takes a load off my mind knowing it'll get done. I cannot imagine getting up to what he does every day. And yet he's been totally supportive of my recuperation--unbelievable.

What time is the hearing? Is there a restriction on weapons when off duty in the Federal building?

Dude, there's a restriction on weapons when you're ON DUTY. Don't even bring a gun if you want to get into a court room.

I disagree. Bill is a 20+ year Air Force Reserve veteran who served 2 deployments in the middle east after 9/11..so I think he still qualifies for that designation!

Obviously my "Hero" comment was taken out of context ... I hope when he is released that there is a Bill Cozzi benefit ... Every active and retired officer should donate $100.00 dollars to the man... who was punished above and beyond what he should have been. If everyone does that or say at least 10,000 officers ... that would total 1,000,000.00 dollars. What type of message would that send ... a defining moment ... I think

I have nver met Bill but write to him once a month. I always get a letter in return. Truly that is what he wants-news and contact with the outside world. Tell him about yourself, your family your district. He just really needs human contact. In return you will learn about him and what a really good guy he is.

Bill Cozzi bracelets are still being sold and all the proceeds are going to the Police Memorial Foundation at Bill's request. Bracelets are available at VCG Uniform shop and other officers are selling them in other districts as well. Again, Bill does not need or want any of the money and the FOP is paying for Bill's legal expenses.

WEISel truly is a no-good vicious rat cocksucker.

If he has a soul, he must regret his torture of scapegoat Cozzi. He's too big a pussy to admit he was wrong. He has no conscience and no scruples. Northside is on target. WEISel is a sadistic psychopath.

Also, we can't forget the stuttering prick behind the curtain.

Why in the name of Jesus Christ does Fitzgerald allow this outrageous injustice to happen? Is he acting on orders from that racist Eric Holder?

Please post the time and location for the hearing on 18 Feb. How many of us can the courtroom hold?

I can't even begin to say how sad I am everytime I read a post regarding Bill Cozzi. My heart sinks each time. I'm sick about the entire situation. I can't begin to wrap my mind around what he and his family goes through everyday.

How long is his sentence and will he get any time reduced?

How much longer does he have to serve?

I knew him only in passing and he was always a gentleman to me.

My thoughts and prayers as always to Bill Cozzi and his family.

I SUGGEST:

We declare a DAY for our BROTHER Bill COZZI!

We as fellow police brothers and sisters ...reserve a GROVE in an area woods this summer, set this date, spread the word have some bands, some beer, some genuine TIME to reflect as a group while coming together as a department on this dreaded issue!

Invite Bills family out there to see our support!

Our morale is down but should not be out!

I am sick of feeling helpless on this job when someone (especially one of our own) is in need and being made an example of for some political agenda...ALL WHILE DUDE WALKS HERE IN COOK COUNTY ON HIS HEINOUS CASES!

3 bars

"COZZI FEST"??? or Jodipalooza?? you decide...

The courtroom for the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit (Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin) is located in Room 2721 at the Dirksen Federal Bldg., 219 S. Dearborn St. The doors open at 9 AM and seating is limited, first come, first seated.

The Cozzi case is on the docket for Thursday, February 18th for no earlier than 10 AM. The AUSA prosecuting Bill's appeal is Stuart FULLERTON for U.S. Attorney Patrick FITZGERALD.

According to the local Office of the U.S. Marshal, all police officers, even uniformed and on duty, must have their weapon(s) stored in gun lockers before proceeding to the elevators.
