The credit cards of 89 Chicago Board of Education employees have been yanked in the midst of an investigation into questionable spending by the last two Chicago School Board presidents and their staff, officials revealed Monday.
If employees at board headquarters want their credit cards back, they will have to justify their expenses dating back to June 30, explain why they need a credit card, and receive training on how to use it, Chicago Public Schools spokeswoman Monique Bond said. She said Schools CEO Ron Huberman canceled all credit cards on Jan. 19.
The disclosure of the action comes after the Chicago Sun-Times revealed that an internal report by Schools Inspector General James Sullivan details what sources said was thousands of dollars in artwork, limousine rides, high-priced meals and liquor charged by former board presidents Michael Scott, Rufus Williams or their staff to the board's tab.

20+ years ago American Express had a deal with the City to offer any City employee a personal Amex card for no annual fee and no credit check or other hoops to jump through. The card said "City of Chicago" on it, if I recall correctly and might have had "corporate card" type benefits. A pretty good deal actaully. The employee was, of course, totally responsible for all charges, but there was no annual fee and there might have been some other freebies thrown in, I don't remember. Anyway, that lasted about a year, because whole groups of City employees simply didn't pay their bills. I guess they figured the City'd do it for them. Some people are capable of screwing up a two-car funeral...

A few ago my daughter was enrolled in a "decent" public shool on the NW side. A lot of CPD and CFD sent their kids there. They didn't order enough spelling books and my daughter was one of the few who didn't get one. She was bringing home xerox papers while 98% had books. I paid my annual "fee" to the school which included books, and told them so. I remember this teacher trying to muscle more money from me for the speller. I pitched a bitch in the principals office, and lo and behold, my daughter and the two other kids finally got their spelling books. It irks me to hear about all this spending from these clouted folks for their personal nonsense and da mayor plays dumb. Please, everyone, vote these assholes out.

CPS is the biggest scam in the city. There is so much money filtering though the teachers, unions and retirement accounts they don't know what to do with it. And it's all endorsed without question by those beloved democRATs. Why do you think they always back dems and were hootin' an hollerin' when obamessiah won? They were guaranteed that the scam would continue.

The real problem is that it appears the CC bills are being paid without the employee who did the charge having to explain it any.
Its no worse than previous years when they allowed employees to expenses these same kind of things on a reimbursement basis.

That's strange, any vehicle I ever leased, and there have been several, did not come with any kind of included, scheduled maintenance.

Subject: Questions for Prosser Principal Mr. Kenneth Hunter
Hello Prosser LSC Members,
On behalf of a number of staff members at Prosser, we are writing you to express concern with what is currently happening to our school. Here is a list of questions that we are suggesting that you ask Mr. Hunter at the next LSC meeting. The reason why we are not listing our names is that we fear reprisals from Mr. Hunter such as what happened to the past Head of Security; Mario Nieves.
1. What happened to the Certificate of Deposits that former principal Mr. Jursa had purchased for the school? How much money was involved and what happened to the receipts from the expenditures? When was local school council authority given to disperse these funds?
2. How much money was spent sending sports teams to England during school time while some school departments have not bought new books since Mr. Hunter became principal? And, why were teacher non-sponsored teachers taken to England and who paid their way?
3. Why is Mr. Jeffrey Bates (Prosser Head Varsity Basketball Coach/Student Services) being paid as a year round recruiter when other schools use counselors for this part time position? Since applications were due in December, what else does he do the rest of the year? If we received over 3,000 applications for 350 openings, why do we need someone going out to schools to recruit students’ full time? Why is Mr. Bates, a former parent advocate, who does not hold a teaching degree or a college diploma, working security on weekends at Prosser, supposedly at the front door while he is in the gym practicing with his sports team?
4. Why has the payroll tripled in some cases as staff members retire and Mr. Hunter has 3 people doing the job of one person? An example of this is when a office clerk retired; she was replaced with 3 people doing her job?
5. Why was Mr. Mario Nieves (head of Prosser security) and two other security guards dismissed last year from the security staff citing budget cuts? But, Prosser has brought in 3 security guards from the CPS “Orange Jacket” security daily. Prosser is paying for those security positions
6. Why wasn't another PE teacher hired from a list of 400 CPS displaced teachers when Prosser had an increased enrollment? The increased enrollment added five extra PE classes (enough for a full time schedule). Instead, Prosser gave the five periods to five current Prosser teachers giving them an extra $20,000 in salary per each extra class for a total of $100,000 instead of hiring another PE teacher for $45,000. Also, three of the extra PE classes turned into English classes and instead of a PE class, students now have two English classes and no PE class.
7. Why are Prosser administrators, teachers and staff members having their vehicles worked on by the Prosser auto shop classes and the community, including many people without work, isn't given the opportunity to have their vehicles worked on by Prosser students in auto shop? And, why isn't there bookeeping being done by the auto shop teachers for work being done and money changing hands?
8. Where are the receipts for the sale and production (by Prooser's graphic arts class) of Prosser t-shirts, sweatshirts, and other merchandise sold to Prosser students and staff members?
OT: today at 7:45am I saw a Dept of Revenue rat walking in the 10500blk of So.Spaudling checking plates, etc. Worked in the ghetto for years...never seen them walking at 67th and Cottage 65th and Vernon checking...Hmmmmm.

Spending money on feeding kids is an important investment. Children need nutritious foods, especially at breakfast, to promote optimal brain development and physical health.
The "wick" program you reference is the Women Infants and Children (WIC) federal nutrition program that provides nutrition assistance for low-income pregnant & nursing mothers, infants and children up to three years of age.
Investing money in young children doesn't bother me..... wasteful goverment spending like we have seen in the City of Chicago, the County of Cook and the State of Illinois does.
IG Sullivan is a moron. He is nothing more than a political hack. Arrogant. He's been the the IG for almost 10 years.
They are probably just recalling the cards so that new ones can be issued by the family bank of Alexi Giannoulias, Obama's friend and B-ball partner.

Principal Hunter, the white guy, what is going on there. Has anyone contacted the CPS Inspector General? The CPS Law Department, LSC Relations (Area Facilator)?? Are they doing there jobs, and when is the last time that office under politically connected individuals have sent their faciliator to the school?
Did everyone sleep in their own hotel room in England? LSC Elections are near, so those living by prosser, apply for this school, as a community representative if your kid doesn't go there, and fix the problems, you just have to live in the community, get an application at the CPS Website or call 773 553-1400 and get the person name who answers, sometimes they are rude, and don't return phone calls, are you listening Ron Huberman, you should call.
Who was awarded the contract for the proper-credit-card-usage training?
Principal Hunter is supposedly connected to someone from his childhood at CPS investigations and/or the Dept of Accountability.
CPS seesm to turns a 'deaf ear' to Prosser because their problems aren't considered as great as schools like Marshall and Fenger. So, they 'fly under the radar' and cover things up.
A Prosser student stole a teacher's car awhile back and crashed it. The teacher was told not to press charges against the student by administration.
Another teacher reported that the computer tech was selling CPS computers and parts. The tech person was arrested and let go because the administration wouldn't press charges. The teacher calling the police got a demotion and cut in pay.
The same tech person was in hot water for being caught with a female student in the bleachers of the swimming pool and having a relationship with her. CPS found 'no harm, no foul' and the tech person is still working at Prosser.
And, a gym teacher (nephew of principal's secretary) was displaced this year by the principal for not having his proper crdentials. Though, the PE teacher had been working as a PE teacher for the past five to six years without the required credentials. But, the reason many say the PE teacher was displaced was from fallout of the PE teacher being named WGN's Teacher of the Month for 2-2009 and the principal got mad that he wasn't interveiwed by the media.
Also, the Prosser stduent that went missing last week was last seen at Noon at Prosser. How did she get out of school if Prosser security was doing their job.
The 'missing' Prosser student was last seen at the same time the two female Chicago Police officers (dubbed 'Gag Me' and 'Lazy' by the Prosser students and staff) and three Prosser security guards take a 45 minute lunch together, leaving 4-5 exits 'unmanned'
Speaking of education, Michele Clark H.S. went up today in the 15th district. Hundreds of students were fighting, seniors versus juniors. A few P.O.'s were injured. Its a waste of taxpayers money to house these children in a school all day. I have to wonder what other bright ideas Arnie Duncan has for the nation in regards to education?
