Giannoulias Bank Problems

Isn't this guy running for Senate? Shouldn't he, you know, have his own shit in order?
  • (Crain’s) — Broadway Bank, the troubled Chicago lender owned by the family of Illinois Treasurer and U.S. Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias, has entered into a consent order with banking regulators requiring it to raise tens of millions in capital, stop paying dividends to the family without regulatory approval, and hire an outside party to evaluate the bank’s senior management.

The Jan. 26 consent order with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and the Illinois Division of Banking comes less than a week before Mr. Giannoulias — Broadway’s chief lender and then vice-president from 2002 to 2006 — must face voters in the Democratic primary for the Senate seat previously held by President Barack Obama.

He’s faced criticism, principally from former city Inspector General David Hoffman, who’s running against him, for his past role at the bank and the $70 million in dividends the family took out of the bank in 2007 and 2008 as the real estate crisis was becoming apparent.

We aren't in the business of endorsing democrats for office, but any vote for Giannoulias would be a vote for "business as usual" in Illinois' corrupt government practices. If you're pulling a democratic primary ballot, Hoffman looks like the better bet for US Senate.

And while you're voting for Hoffman, throw a vote at Stroger for Cook County Board President. He's the most beatable of the democrats so we might actually see a republican winner in the fall.

Illinois citizens are all sheep and as much I hate to say it, Giannoulias is going to win. You think we can get rid of decades of corruption in a single election year? Maybe the good news is when Hoffman loses, he will run for Mayor of Chicago instead!

How much do you want to bet that the Messiah makes an exception to bailing out just the big banks and comes to the rescue of this Illinois Machine Politician?

They're all connected by the proverbial "money trail" anyway. Maybe Rezko can make a few calls and get the cash returned for that over-inflated vacant lot just south of the POTUS' crib on South Greenwood and apply that to help stop Giannoulias' bleeding.

Fucking pathetic, ain't it? The Illinois TREASURER...the dude in charge of all the cash...and he can't "balance his own check book", so to speak? And he wants to secrete his grubby little paws further into the taxpayer's pockets?

Fuck that! Draw a Republican ticket at the primary and let's get REAL change in motion.

Having had the misfortune of banking at one time at my neighborhood bank, Broadway Bank, I'm amazed it took FDIC so long before investigating and reprimanding this bogus bank. It operates like a group of kids playing "bank". They're record keeping was byzantine, and their headquarters bank location is a former auto showroom. Took my money out long ago because the bank atmosphere made me uneasy everytime I went there.

In my 20 plus years, I never worked for, or sucked up to a politician. If I had I would have been promoted.
This time its different. I'm waging political war against Daley,Stroger, Burke, the Combine, and any other filthy Machine flunky.
I will post signs, volunteer for his campaign, and compile and leak any info I have ( and I have PLENTY) that'll place Daley and co in the worst possible light. It's time for this little S.O.B. to go !!!
I will donate to the Hoffman campaign the cash equivalent of a 24 day furlough just as long as he bitch slaps the drunk irish megalomaniac on the fifth floor in February 2011.

Webster, maybe you have eatin in there, look under the el tracks notice how the refrigeration is under the el? it is on CTA property illegally, guess what, the Giannoulias family owns that place. It was opened while our wonderful and supreme commander in chief was a U.S senator and Alexi was running for his office, the city tried to get it removed before they opened but someone got a phone call and it was swept under the carpet hmmmmmmmmmmm

The only US senator that did anything constructive for the people of the state was a republican who brought in a US attorney to combat corruption. Durbin and Obama have never spoken out against state corruption and have even benefited by it. What we really need is an honest mayor of Chicago. What chicago does effects the entire state. HOFFMAN FOR MAYOR!!!

How can anyone lower their standards so low to vote for Stroger? I would love to see a republican win but unfortunalty a Tact Lt on this job does not strike me as a qualified person for Cook County Board President. Besides his own 100 K a year salary, what budget has he ever balanced or maintained. Cook county has a 3 billion dollar budget. It seems to me he would be in a little over his head. Get a republican who has more qualifications than making Lt or graduating from John Marshall Law School, which by the way is the Calumet College of Law Schools, and you get my vote. Until then, the only option is to vote for a democrat. That leaves two reasonable choices. Precwinkle or O brien. Toni is in Shortshanks pocket and her husband is wrapped up with Rezco and Blago. No thanks. O Brien has handled a billion dollar budget and seems to have what it takes to get Cook County back under control. He has my vote (Until a real republican candidate steps forward)

it's just that much longer that daley inc. can't consolidate their power in city & county government!

the republicans & independents (if any ) are going to shake-off the weaker candidates by the time the general rolls around... we'll get more of a chance to see whom is really standing behind who :)

You've been voting Democrat for years and where the hell has it gotton you? Stupid is as stupid does. Stand up, speak out and vote Republican. Understand that the progressive/socialist Democrats are in charge and your freedoms, property, the money that you make by the sweat of YOUR brow will continue to be taken away from you...it is the progressive/socialist/communist way. We must stop the massive corruption of those in power..STAND UP, SPEAK OUT AND VOTE CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN. Our Founding Fathers had the strong wherewithal to stand up, speak up and fight for what is right. The progressive Democrats in power are grossly corrupt, arrogant, morally bereft, and traitors to this country...they are attempting to destroy this country from within, in order to foster progressive socialism/communism, and THIS IS A TREASONOUS ATTACK AGAINST THE USA. Fight for this country and vote conservative Republican. Those of us who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Giannoulias was told NOT to run for US Senate by the Obama administration. They are worried about the bank deals, Rezko dealings and money laundering fallout coming to light.

They are hoping to sacrifice the US Senate seat to the R.I.N.O. Northshore LIBERAL Mark Kirk who will not oppose Obama.

Politics is not what it seems in Illinois.

That said, how fucking stupid are you? If you vote for one of the other dumbocrats in the primary, they might possibly win the general election.

No, the wedge between Mel and Blago was the downstate daughter of a wealthy contributer he allegedly knocked up - and she did not have an abortion, so they say. The funniest cartoon I ever saw (by Higgins, in the Sun Times), was of Blago pushing a baby carraige, and in it was a baby with Mel's head going "Waaaaaa" ha ha.
