Contract a Done Deal Rumor

As far as we know, it's false.

The FOP site has a list of scheduled dates for Arbitration hearings and the next one isn't until 24 February. And there's a 04 March date reserved if that isn't enough.

It's a long tedious process. No need to rush it.

not even close to being done.. I heard the city is not budging on what ever monetary offer is being argued and the fop also is not willing to negotiate.. from what I heard they are stuck a 6.5% raise over 4 years.. city says its all they can afford fop says they wont take anything under 15%... lots of people saying with all the recent press of city going broke and all recent contracts that have been settled in the city have taken a pay cut, furlough days or lay offs the arbitrator will find for the city or give somewhere around 8-9% for 4 years at maximum... doesnt look good

Last weekend King Shortshanks was on the news stating the Police need to cut their budget by 6%, NO OVERTIME, NO PAY FURLOUGH DAYS, POSSIBLY A CUT IN PAY. Is this a pre-clude to our contract and the arbritrator seen thru his BULL and has given us what we asked for? He has plenty of money for all his pet projects! He did this last time just before the ruling he was on tv stating the city is broke just to turn the people and media aganist the money grubbing POLICE!

If Daley gets dumped there will no long be a problem with the pension fund. Every pay check everyone puts in. If the city puts in also and doesn't let daley friends use the money for terrible investments the fund should be fine. When you have a pension board that is controlled by daley and they all vote with daley(except Sheilds) the fund will not survive. You need real business and financial people on the board and Daley has proven himself to be the worst business man in the USA!!!

No need to rush it -- damn right. The Citywide Team has been working it's collective ass off on this contract for you, our fraternal brothers and sisters, for what may seem like years but it's only been 31 months.

When the 2% retro makes it your way in 8 months, don't be angry at us, try to remember the Citywide Team brought you the 4-2 schedule.

Try not to remember all the 3rd and 1st watch Patrol units who have been forced to work 10-99 since P.O. Rick Francis made the ultimate sacrifice, and we the Citywide Team failed to take a stand for officer safety in this contract.

We're in the home stretch and I feel good about the Springfield lobbying job I've got lined up.

First of all, any arbitrator worth his salt has to go by the state of the city 3 years ago when the contract expired, and also consider how the city blew us off and would not begin talks just like they do every time regardless of the financial state. Second, 3 years ago the city was spending huge $$$ on Daley's olympic scam and told the public that chicago was ok financially to keep us on his side for his olympic scam. How can Daley cry broke and at the same time blow millions on something that was a long shot? Third, last time our contract expired the economy was in great shape and the arbitrator gave us the basic 4% a year. This is the same arbitrator and unless the city secretly filled his wallet we will probably get the same 16% over 4 yrs. What we need is a real mayor not a corrupt dictator in power forever!

I second THIS!!! When it comes to the city taking care of it's own emergency personell they take many years! But when it comes to very important deals worth millions upon millions you would think they would take a long time and explore every aspect of the deal, but instead daley rams it through and the public gets screwed again. The majoriety of the police departments in the country are loved by their cities, but our city hall treats us like they hate us. It's very sad and unfortunate. HOFFMAN FOR MAYOR!!!!!

OT: Not sure where else to post this.

I wanted to give credit for a job well done to the officers from several different suburbs for the chase last night. Anyone who was listening to ISPERN knows what I'm talking about.

Long story short, Oak Lawn PD tried to stop a car for traffic at 95/Roberts Road. Oak Lawn pursued and terminated chase a short time later. Countryside PD saw the car and began chasing it only to terminate chase a few minutes later. Hillside PD picked up the chase and kept with it until the moron was taken into custody in Elk Grove Village.

A job well done to all involved including the Hillside Officer who was calling it on ISPERN.

When the decision is made the City has 120 days to pay us retro. contray to popular belief arbitration is binding for us and the City. Some aldermen may have made waves about not ratifying but it doesnt matter, they still have to pay us.

One thing I noticed at the meeting was a lack of young Officers there. The great majority there had time on or were retired. ECONOMY LEAPS FORWARD

POLICEPAY.NET UPDATE

DO NOT SIGN CONCESSION AGREEMENTS!!!

The economy for the 4th quarter of 2009 grew at a record pace - 5.7%, even after removing inflation. The economy out-performed our estimates by a small amount. It totally discredited the pop culture prophets of the media, who were predicting the apocalypse. The economy began to grow again last August and has gathered a large head of steam. Hang on to your hats. The economy is about to explode, but so will inflation - compare today to the sixties and early seventies.

However, local governments typically lag the overall economy by about six months. The current quarter will have the first signs of growth for most cities. The turnaround will not be visible for several months because of the lag in reporting. Once the good news starts rolling out, cities will go into a prevent defense, delaying the release of financial data and talking about so called "Double Dip Recessions." Those who would rip the financial heart out of your police department will not go away quietly, but kicking and screaming. Currently, these are heady days for the "slash and cut" crowd, but it is all about to end.

Hold off on making any concessions until we are able to further analyze the current economic data. It is our goal to have this done in about seven to ten days. What would I tell the unions who are being forced to make the unpleasant choice between large pay cuts or large lay offs? Take the lay offs! You can help those laid off with financial assistance. Once the economic leverage for the political extortion melts away, the cities will start undoing their self-mutilation to public safety. Any economic concessions will be very difficult to recover.

Do not attack politicians - any politicians. Just lay low and stay under the radar. Put your effort into controlling your membership. You have to keep them on board and under control. If you are currently in contract negotiations, go into the delay game. It is better to operate with an expired contract for a year than it is to make a deal with a gun to your head. You need to develop a strategic plan that goes out further than the next contract. Timing of things is very important.

Keep your head up and do not become discouraged. Relief is on the way - soon. We will show you where the rocks are in the financial rapids. We will be talking with you again - soon.

when you actually pension out, you cannot get less of your contracted pension if the city changes the terms of pension benefits on a new/later contract. of course those who would get less or more are those who pension out on a changed contract. if the city wanted to take any thing away from a retiree that would have to be changed thru state legislation. in other words retirees should be unaffected by terms of future contracts for new hires or "still working CPD sworn members. That said, remember that addend. items passed as add-on benefits, by city council, can be revoted out at any time. But again that can't take away already retired sworn benefits. So stay tuned the new contract could easily be two tiered, good luck my fellow leos.

A large area hospital had a freeze on pay raises for over a year and recently ended freeze and gave everyone 2 percent for thier annual review/raise. Don't expect the usual 15 or 16 percent over 4 yrs. Based on the economy we'll probably average no more that 2-2 1/2 percent a year. 8 to 10 percent over 4 years seems about right. It sucks, but we still have a job.

I pray you are not an active or retired member of this department because you sound like a complete jagoff..

Well if I lied and said I think we will get a 20 percent pay raise over 4 years would that help you sleep tonight? And yes asswipe we are lucky to have a job. There's about a 10 percent unemployment rate and there are blue collar workers like us without a job. If we get 16 percent, great, but please get your head out of your ass and wake up idiot, it probably won't happen.

I knew it was real, I'm off to the bank right now with a fresh deposit slip. By the way I'm buying drinks tonight at the Drake Hotel bar.

Me neither. This is why I just bought a bank property for cash and am walking away from my 3000 monthly mortgage. It's a business decision. This my version of a personal bailout. I am just going to "BAIL OUT" of that crappy mortgage.

If you really did what you said above you are an idiot. I give it 90 days before you are hit with a lawsuit asking for a deficiency judgement. Illinois is one state that allows them. You will lose in court the bank will garnish your check with the judgement and add on interest and attorneys fees. On another topic the same arbitrator Benn gave us 4%/yr in a good economy we will be lucky to get 2% now. As much as he should, he won't care about the olympics and the rest of the bullshit we talk about. That's if FOP even tries bringing that stuff up. What the fuck does Benn care he's an attorney, charges $1300/day for arbitration and lives in Glencoe. IMO we are fucked.

"...we are lucky to have a job. There's about a 10 percent unemployment rate and there are blue collar workers like us without a job."

Many of us took this job, despite opportunities in the civilian world where we could have made much more money, because we knew it to be secure.

That "lucky to have a job"-crap has got to stop.

Ten years ago when the econony was great, many of my friends & acquaintances laughed at me & tried to get me to join them "where the big money's at." Well now about half of them have been out of a job and/or are working at jobs they hate. Me? I'm still good. Secure.

Back when the economy was good Dick Daley wasn't offering us any more money. He never said "The City's doing great! Hey, let's pay the police more!" Nothing's changed. Contract delays are the norm with this jag.

The other thing you need to consider is that since we are employed, we're still consumers-we're buying goods and services. We're keeping the economy going because we ARE working.

The more we make, the more we'll spend. You know that's true!

"lucky to have a job"

Yes, in comparison to other "blue collar" jobs such as electricians, carpenters, plumber ect... The above mentioned other "blue collar" jobs require skills to obtain or at least require a long apprenticship to receive full pay.

As far as the big jobs you gave up to take this one consider this key word to your argument, "Secure".

"Blue Collar" workers usually have some union support compared to the "White Collar" jobs. The City's benefit package(health & life insuranc, pension ect..) were other reasons we took this job.

Bank presidents, CEO, CFI look good now getting those big bonuses but you can't compare apples to oranges.

We're not entilted to anything more than the other big city police and fire departments. If our pay is in line with the other big city PD & FD across the country, I'm okay with it. If it's 8-10 percent then so be it.

And to the officers that obtained a bachelor degree and/or advanced degrees PRIOR to taking this police job, my question to you, Why did you take this job? The excitement of being a big city police officer or your fantasy to become a homicide detective, police powers? Most of you that had the skills to make bigger money in the white collar world let the knowledge that you obtained in college dissipate to take this police job. Most of you couldn't hack it in those jobs and were lucky enough to get this police job.

Quit crying about the pay, Get off your high horse, you're not entitled to nothing more than any other police officer across the country.
