It's Chicago; It's Winter;
Mother Nature may be flirting with Chicagoans with a few days of sunshine followed by a winter storm watch in the same week.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch in effect Sunday evening through Monday afternoon.
Heavy snow is expected Sunday night into early Monday morning with a total of eight to 12 inches likely, the weather service said. Accumulation rates of an inch per hour is expected, but should stop by mid-day Monday.
This was the top story Saturday in both papers' on-line editions and each of the major networks. And the second story? Clear off the lawn chairs, 5-gallon-buckets and 2x4's saving parking spots or Shortshanks will do it for you.
You'd think they never saw a snowflake before 2010.

My 84yr old mother was commenting on the same thing this afternoon. She still drives and thinks all this hype and drama is a joke.
She just shrugged her shoulders and said, "what do they expect? It's CHICAGO." (Then she said something about how spoiled 'the younger generation' is.) We all laughed.
My shovel never leaves the front entry once it snows. come mid-March, I start thinking it might be time to put it in the garage. The routine hasn't changed in thirty years. NO BIG DEAL.
The "news" is mostly crap.
They do the same bits, time after time, year after year.
Every time there's a major snowstorm they send some poor dope reporter and camera crew out to some remote location to show shots of stranded cars and snowplows.
They've grown tired of reporting what is now Obama's war (Oooh. Wouldn't want to give a daily casualty report like they were doing when it was Bush's war!).
Illinois/Cook County/Chicago corruption isn't news anymore, nor has it been for years.
Intergalactic health care or whatever they're working on in congress has grown stale.
Dopey Daley is out of town on vacation, so he's not saying anything cute and amusing.
The average 30-minute newscast is only about eight minutes of actual "news". The rest is sports, human interest and commercials. No time for in-depth reporting.
How often do you see live shots of a now-dark building, with some unlucky "journalist" standing outside, talking about an important event that took place there HOURS earlier?
Come summer they'll be frying eggs on the sidewalk again.
This Global Warming sucks!!
The media is afraid to report more than a few happenings from any given day.The media and public officials are afraid to tell people the truth about what is out there in the so-called "communities". Regular decent people would all be terrified if they knew the levels of depravity that huge segments of society has sunk to. We, America are in trouble!
Thanks for the weather report.
Holy Shit...how did we survive all these years here in chitcago.
Typical news idits.
Half of the media morons grew up someplace else. This has not been a bad winter. This is par for the course.
It's going to snow here in the winter!?
Won't someone please think of the children!!
will the revnue and inspectors be out "hunting" to write up taxpayers who ahve no shoveled within 3 hours? Just read todays sun-times seems the revnue goofs are writing parking tickets outside of shitcago in Stickney, what a bunch of goofs!
Chicago side streets always had the save a spot debris out there. If you shoveled it, you saved it. If you park there w/o permission, you lost a mirror or were keyed. Maybe some of these foreigners who are renting homes with 5 families and numerous cars owned by them should be out there shoveling, or go back to the old Country. Hey, lost votes for the Mayor. America, what a country!
Do you get the feeling that they are hyping the weather to keep you watching the commercial stations.
Lately it's never been as bad as it was when I was a kid and had to walk 10 miles to school barefoot in a blizzard, winter or summer, uphill both ways!
Mark Twain said it best..
"If you don't read the newspapers, you are uninformed. If you DO read the newspapers, you are misinformed!"
Do we have to eat the sgts and lts this time? Unless someone confirms they taste like chicken, I'll just have some Milk Duds thank you.
I guess it's a good thing that our greatest supe ever got us four wheel drive Tahoes to drive.

It IS kinda pretty out there tonight and the dog had a good time running around in that whole INCH of snow.

Couldn't even make the damned thing swing the turn in a T-alley when it really snowed last month. Two wheel drive. In Chicago winters. Dimwit.

Yuppers rush to buy a shovel and a little bag of salt at the first sign of snow every year -- causing a huge line at Menards -- and then they throw away the shovel and remaining salt every spring.
Repeat, repeat, repeat.
This is the "70% of the economy that is consumer spending" that is keeping us afloat.
We are doomed.
Some of the people who lived on the side streets would get together and shovel everybody a parking spot.
That was before the divide and conquer mentality of the crooks and maybe the cops too.
Now you have to check your neighbor out as they may belong to the robbers robbing you.
