All That Money Wasted?

Set up a system destined to fail, throw money at it for years, then privatize it? Must be the Shortshanks way:
  • Under fire to deliver suburban-style curbside recycling to all Chicagoans, the Daley administration is exploring the possibility of privatizing the service, City Hall sources said Tuesday.

Several aldermen, who asked to remain anonymous, said they've been told Streets and Sanitation Commissioner Tom Byrne is working on a plan to privatize recycling to shave as much as $40 million off the $60 million annual cost.

Hi Tommy!

So are taxpayers due any money back for this disaster in the making? Or are we just taking it in the shorts again?

If they are exploring privatizing recycling, you can bet your money that waste collection will be next.

Did Patrick Daley buy a garbage truck company?? maybe it was Robert Vanecko? or maybe the insider group that purchased the parking meters?

One thing is certain, WHOEVER get the contract won't be legit and in the end Daley won't know nothing about it...AGAIN.

The city is talking about privatizing the gas pumps as well.
Maybe they can get BP Amoco to run the fueling sites.

SCC, don't be so cynical. We still have our tax dollars well invested in the the mayor's bike paths, the planters ( and their perpetual maintainance), the bean, CAPS, and lots of wrought iron fences.
I suppose that you don't think the new stations need all that marble, 30 foot windows, art mosaics or landscaped roofs and parking lots either ?

Why should the city be involved at all in collecting refuse?

Went for gas at 39-Iron the other day. There was a whole fleet of brand new garbage trucks parked in the lot by the city garage there. The city is broke! Can't they make the old trucks work like pool cars? How did they pay for them? Use the money saved from furlough days given up by employees? A waste company float a loan? A loan from the hired truck guys? How do they get away with this and does anyone give a shit?????????

OT ~ The "green" mayor lies

Last week, I put out my lawn clippings for recycling as we are REQUIRED to do under the city's recycling ordinance. They were not picked up and the bags were drenched from the rain. Today, my regular trash pick-up took all the clippings that I had separated to be recycled, and THEY mixed it in with the regular trash.

So I ask the driver "What's up with that?" and he says they are VERY short handed and they (Streets & San) have all been cut to a 40 hour work week (No OT), including "special" clean-ups for the various festivals and parades and holidays etc. He said the recycling runs are no longer taking place as scheduled (every two weeks in my blue cart neighborhood) and will only be available if manpower exists for it. So, even though the city REQUIRES us to recycle, the mayor is f*cking up the whole process,(or is old Tommy Byrne responsible)!

So, I googled "Chicago green city" and found this from a year ago. Yeah, BIG surprise. Another reason the stuttering prick should be looking at us from a jail cell!!!

I totally agree. If the money is not used for what it is alotted for, give it back to the citizens. The Citizens need a documented account of where THEIR money goes. And What's left over. No keeping the extras if there is a sale.

I'm thinking "Waste" ,er "WALSH" Construction is starting a "subsidiary" into waste management. It will be a no-bid like all of the Daley cronies.
