More "Merit List" Questions

More and more rumors popping up:
  • O/T but very interesting... I was told 2nite that a confidential CR# has been obtained regarding the "clout" sergeant's list. Heard that J-Fled blew a gasket over the clout list after it was published...the one published was different from the one which he had signed off on. Now the question to be answered is Who made the changes after he signed off on it??? Anyone else hearing anything like this?
Well bet it's EXACTLY the one that Masters Masters Masters signed off on though, because that's the one that Shortshanks said was the good one.

Who was the brand new Commander from the Southside that went into 019 to free his son who had just been arrested for a handgun? I believe he tried to humiliate the Desk Sgt. in he process.

What ever happened to him? This was about 1 year ago

Richard Gonzalez, candidate for alderman in the 41st Ward, actually has an entire set of issues dedicated to first responders. He's an 18 year veteran of the CPD. www.richardforchicago.com

Let's see how strong the arrogance is when they release the Lt's list. We will all know, by looking at the merit list, if it's on the up and up. I really don't expect it to be, let's see if Goldstein gets a merit pick, maybe Ray-Ray.

Can anyone shed some light on this matter, please? Supposedly the fop has the listings of all promotions ever made, including the merit promotions. If this is true, does that mean fop only has lists of police officer (rank) promoted to detective, sergeant, et, canine, etc. And pbpa only has lists of sergeant (rank) promoted to lieutenant? If this is true, can any union member walk in and request to see or xerox those lists?

Matthews. He was demoted back to Lt, courtesy of an SCC reader who brought it to the blog's attention. But it was more like 4 years ago there Rip Van Winkle.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

He was demoted to field Lt. Most of the spineless PO's chickened out when IAD came calling but some of us did not. We told them the truth and the arbitrator the same. He got a paltry 5 day suspension. He grieved it and cost his union a boat load of money. If there would have been a camera in that lobby he would have been fired. Arbitrator ruled he deserved all 5 days and would not even give one day back. Good riddens Lt.

What would REALLY be a joke is to promote detectives and FURTHER deplete the numbers of boots on the street. Sorry, but we shouldn't promote dicks until we have some blue shirts to fill the shortage we ALREADY have.

And before you bitch, I'm a detective division supervisor and I STILL feel that way. It's not all about YOU, junior; it's about what's best for the Department and the people who have no backup in patrol.

A promotion is an advancement in rank. Although some detectives believe they've been elevated to a rank above police officer, they've not been. Detectives are ASSIGNED, not promoted.

Yeah, ur a supervisor who got to your "supervisor" position b/c of who you knew or who you blew!!!!!! I'm a detective on test score, not "merit", working in the busiest area's in the city......
We are swamped!!! These poor kids that scored well on the dets. test have been waiting for nearly three years, and there are many, many people who have not even taken a promotional test b/c this bullshit department has not offered a test in nearly 5 yrs, so take your "supervisor" credentials and shove it up ur ass..... And go take ur three hr lunch!

Thank you for answering me. I figured that, but was curious why nobody else is questioning this. If this is true, then it once again provcs the fop is on mayor daleys side. I guess I am going to have to try to acquire this information another lawful way, since no fop reps are willing to attack this very important issue.

Correct me if I'm wrong but...
I was told that initially FOP, then the PBPA either bargained or sued to get the list of promotees under the guise to be able to check the integrity of the test vs. merit promotees. Of course the city initially gave them the typical resounding...NO!
Again, I'm not sure of why it changed (lawsuit or arbitrator etc.) but it was finally agreed upon to turn over the results to the union(s) for their oversight to verify ONLY that the city complied with the mandated percentage of test vs. merit people promoted. The unions could only use this list to check for compliance/accuracy and obviously had no say so in who the department made meritoriously.
The kicker was that prior to the unions (finally) getting a copy of the list for the sole purpose to verify test order and merit percentage accuracy, they were ordered to maintain this list in confidence for that purpose ONLY are were prohibited from making that list public.

Also, I think part of the reason why that stipulation was initially put in was, if you remember, the first couple of promotion lists did not distinguish the merit from the test people promoted which allowed the city/dept. to sneak 'under the covers' THEIR CHOSEN few.
Now, it appears that the posted list now separates the two groups but the unions appear to still be the only ones allowed to monitor the percentage and list order accuracy.
Let's not blame the 'watchdogs' on this one... just keep your eyes on the 'offenders!'
Stay safe out there my brothers.

The bottom line is there is no future in this department. You are better off making preparations to leave while you are idling on this job.

Instead of simply waiting for a promotion or a new test that may never happen, spend your time on something else that will help you move away from this dead end job. Education, new skill, new hobby, whatever. This job is at an end for everyone, even if you haven't reached retirement age.

If you stay you'll end up feeling like a panhandler on the side of the road, never knowing what will be tossed your way. There is one thing that the majority take away from this job, regret. Regret for a life wasted serving the needs of incompetent, corrupt men.

If you are miserable and think that a promotion will end your misery, you are wrong. The longer you live, the more you realize that life is about more than money.

If you waste time waiting for this miserable department to give you something, you might miss out on the opportunity to do something more for yourself.

An excerpt from the Sun-Times

He (Weis) called Dedore a “natural leader” who compiled the highest score of all the nominees ranked by a Merit Board comprised of four deputy superintendents and two assistant superintendents.

A bit bias, no? The whole process smells of b.s.
