Officers Injured, Suspect Dead (UPDATED)

WBBM was saying more than one person was transported to the hospital, but only one is named as a Department member so far. Here's the BreakingNews report:
  • A Chicago police officer was struck by a vehicle this morning in the Washington Heights neighborhood on the city's South Side, officials said.

The incident happened shortly after midnight in an alley on the 9100 block of South Halsted Street, said Police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines.

The officer was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, officials said. There was no immediate information available about the officer's condition or the circumstances of the incident.
UPDATE: More info - THREE cops hit by car, one offender dead, one wounded:
  • Three Chicago Police officers were struck by a vehicle this morning during a chase that resulted in one suspect being shot dead at the scene in the Washington Heights neighborhood on the city's South Side.

Shortly after midnight, two officers were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, said Police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines. Information about the third officer was not immediately available.

Chicago Fire Department spokesman Quention Curtis said paramedics transported four people from the 9100 block of South Halsted Street to Christ Medical Center. One person was in serious-to-critical condition and three others were in fair-to-serious condition, he said. The officers' injuries were not life-threatening, Gaines said.

And the refrain that is fast becoming the new big thing:
  • Bradley added he was "shocked" by the gunfire. "This is relatively a quiet area," he said.
Get well soon Officers!

Remember everyone. A car is as deadly a weapon as there is. Someone behind the wheel of a car can take you completely out of this world much faster than you think you can jump out of the way. If they're in a car and the engine is running, they have a deadly weapon in their hands.

I'll never forget the one time I witnessed a car used as a weapon in a ghetto baby-mama drama, where baby-mama hopped in the civic and ran down baby-daddy. Baby daddy was a spry and nimble young lad in his early 20's who didn't stand a fucking chance once she closed the gap and got the front bumper pointed in his direction.

Running car + shithead = danger.

It's a sad day/week/year/city when your first thought upon waking up is, "What madness and mayhem has befallen this hellified city overnight?", then hear that 3 officers have been hurt. I wish the officers a speedy recovery.

One bright spot/glimmer of hope -"Cop saves missing man from jumping into lake." Thank you Officer Salgado. Good looking out and being on point.

And THANK YOU to all the Officers of the Chicago Police Department who risk their lives day and night for this city and its law abiding citizens. You are appreciated.

"And the refrain that is fast becoming the new big thing: 'Bradley added he was 'shocked' by the gunfire. 'This is relatively a quiet area,' he said."

It's astonishing how desperately people cling to articles of faith in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. This is a mass breakdown of the ability to think, a maladaptive reaction on a large scale.

As reported here, the "youth" of the West Side are wandering North Michigan Avenue in groups of 200 now, and the place is still considered a "destination."

Downtown Johannesburg still looks OK from the air; get down there, and you'll see smoke from squatters' cook fires curling out of the smashed windows of what were once luxury office buildings...

Devolution.

The story given by the girls is a bit dubious. They were highly intoxicated, and their story alternated between getting knocked to the ground to getting a gun stuck in their faces. That's a big difference, even for a drunk. Word is that a family situation may have caused one of them to make a story up, and the others played along.
While some discouraging stuff has been going on in Mt Greenwood recently, dont give this one a lot of credence.

Seriously, considering all the shit that can go down, maimed, killed, sued, it just doesn't make sense to do traffic stops, not like we did them years ago. I get movers from traffic crashes and the very rare stop.

An alleged family member was on ABC moaning that the poleese shun't 'uv shot him down like a dawg.

26 years ago my FTO warned me that when I go to a police shooting to watch out for the inevitible shithead who crawls out from his/her rock to proclaim they saw the whole thing and the poleese kilt that man/woman/beast in cold blood.

And sure enough, in no time I responded to a police shooting on 1st watch and there he was shouting "I seen the whole thing and the poleese shot her down in cold blood"

Six independent witnesses contradicted him and he refused to give a name or go on paper.

Every damn thing the old timers told me would happen did happen, just like they said, like they had been there before or something.

Youngsters, pay attention to those old timers, they have seen all this shit many times over many years.

The avenues of escape I keep in mind (any plan is better than none at all) are A. jump up/roll onto another parked car rather than get smashed against it like a bug, or B. run up onto a nice solid poured-concrete bungalow front steps to get above the level of that lethal bumper.

Variations will present themselves as you look around. Look for those narrow gangways between brick buildings. Can't follow you in there. You might be able to dive through a basement window and get below that level and behind a wall to boot.

It's all a case of "hurt versus really hurt."

It ain't much, but you gotta try.

Chicago Police Lieutenant Writes Blog Critical of Police Department, Jody Weis
Updated: Monday, 23 Aug 2010, 9:16 PM CDT
Published : Monday, 23 Aug 2010, 8:48 PM CDT

By Craig Wall, FOX Chicago News

Chicago - Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis is facing questions about a very critical blog written by a police lieutenant.

The author, John Andrews, is now under investigation by internal affairs, and knows he very well could lose his job for publicly criticizing those running the department. He minces no words in his blog or in his defense of it.

"We have lost control of maintaining social order in many parts of Chicago, we are undermanned, we're wore out, staffing is at dangerous levels, leadership is absent and some of those who claim to be our leaders are incompetent," Andrews said.

Other cops have criticized the department before, but Andrews is a hero of sorts to some rank-and-file because he signed his name.

He said he felt compelled to write the blog after the murder of the third chicago police officer in recent months.

The superintendent was not happy.

"I think leaders in today's times should look to inspire, motivate and look for solutions to challenges," said Weis. "I don't think leaders should throw rocks at their respective agencies, at those who are actually trying to adress the challenges."

Now that he's spoken up, Andrews refuses to be quiet.

"I looked at everything that was going on and I said, 'We need change,'" Andrews said. "And I decided if no one else was gonna step up and say what really needed to be said, to sound the warning bells to the citizens of Chicago, I gotta do it."

Good work to the Officers who addressed the attempted murder by automobile.

A little off topic...
I attended a townhall meeting this evening which Congressman Danny K. Davis held at the Loyola Law School at 25 E. Pearson.

He spoke in platitudes; stated he was a progressive and said he was inclined to be a Socialist. He added he's been elected to public office for 30 years.

He went on to say he believed in gun control and commented that he ventured to guess, so too do many in the room. At that point, I had call out and tell him he was wrong. I couldn't let him get off with that. I stated guns and spray paint have been outlawed for 25 years in Chicago and, for the most part, the only people who have guns and spray paint are the criminals. He continued if there was a national ban things would be different. I called out and reminded him that we once had prohibition and that didn't stop people from getting the booze they wanted.

Surprisingly, a majority of the room stood up for our 2 Amendment Rights.

Questions on creating jobs and addressing illegal aliens received no direct response where he would outline specific actions that should be taken. He stated he believes in health care for everyone and comprehensive immigration reform (whatever comprehensive immigration reform means. Probably citizenship for 15-20 million illegals).

About 10-15 percent of those in attendance left early, either from being bored or tired (about that many in attendance were elderly).

Surprisingly or perhaps not, there were no media cameras there just a guy in Davis' staff taking pictures of those in the audience that made comments or asked questions.

I say this because this man is dangerous. And, I can see how you in law enforcement feel it's you against them.

He represents a very large district. He himself admitted his thinking and "Progressives" like him ( his own term which got applause by about 20 percent in attemdance) are not the same as many other parts of the country ( presumably those of us who cling to our guns and consitutional rights).

Unlike Durbin, he had a Townhall meeting and I'll give him credit for that. It is my sincere hope he is sent packing in the next election.

If he and people like him who have never known anyting but sucking from the government teat for most of there lives don't get turned out of office, America as we knew it: a land of legal immigrants assimilating as Americans and working hard actually making things will be finished for good.

If he's your congresman make it your business to see him at a Townhall meeting in your area and let him know we are all not drinking the kool-aid of Americas future being in "a green" economy.

Oh, man. PCP is the worst drug in the world. It accounts for the photos of standard handcuffs that the suspect tore off with his teeth that you see in police textbooks. All twisted up, with bite marks in the steel. Unbelievable.

Scene from the Kenmore-Winthrop corridor; I heard a rattle, and the whizzing sound of rubber on pavement, and then there came flying out of the dark an M/1, about 20, on a bicycle, eyes all bugged out, open shirt flying straight out behind him, standing up and pedaling with all his might as though the very Devil was after him.

"I'M F___ED UP! I'M F___ED UP!" he bellowed, in an absolute panic. He disappeared around the corner. I waited for that awful "thud" of a car hitting someone, but nothing.

You get the idea.

Give this stuff to a giant, mindless five-year-old who, to start with, is living inside a music video of bikini-clad girls throwing $100 bills from helicopters as people shoot AK-47s, and this is the result.

Yeah, a tox screen should definitely be done; with the long history of this stuff, the presence of PCP would make this a "double-extra-special unavoidable shooting by police, with extra whipped cream."

"America as we knew it: a land of legal immigrants assimilating as Americans and working hard actually making things will be finished for good."

Yes -- and this whole "immigrants" thing is Hollywood-overblown in the first place, repeated and repeated and repeated until people take it as gospel. "The Melting Pot" is just the title of a play written by one Israel Zangwill back around 1906 or so, not part of the Constitution or something.

In any case, it's becoming unsustainable with the explosive growth in world population. Everyone on the planet can't crowd in here to cut grass, gather scrap metal, and make babies while Uncle Sugar provides unlimited "benefits" so they can send cash home.

There are already twice as many people in this country as there were when I was born, and at the same time there is no longer anything for them to make -- most manufacturing is gone, and "consumer spending" now accounts for 90% of economic activity -- and it's tanking.

I see "immigrants" trying to sell their construction tools with the end of the condo boom -- four illegal Polish families in one little house the other day, every woman with an infant in her arms, and not finding many takers for the hammers and worn-out tile saws. Mexican and Irish, the same scene. Last in, first out...

Today's headline --

Home sales plunge 27 percent to lowest in 15 years

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/
20100824/ap_on_bi_ge/us_home_sales

There is no such thing as a "service economy." It has never existed anywhere.

This is a global convulsion triggered by financial speculation; a friend in England reports that Polish workers there are going back home too -- pushing past a wave of non-workers coming the other way, drawn in by government giveaways and "asylum."

He also says that the small businesses in the old city centers are being killed the same way ours are, by the megastores and by savage traffic enforcement patrols ticketing and booting (they call it "clamping") anyone foolish enough to stop in town and try to spend money.

Roosevelt Road at Home Avenue the other day -- on the Berwyn side, about six vacant, failed small businesses in less than a block. "FOR LEASE." Overlay this scene anywhere...

Remember last year, when brokerage Goldman Sachs was asking its employees to "be discreet" in spending their huge Christmas bonuses?

*

As the small banks fail (like Shore Bank here just last week) these big fish are forming "consortiums" to snap them up -- at taxpayer expense, of course. It's called "consolidating your position" -- and it's a wet dream for Ali Baba And The Forty Thieves.

Failed social experiment -- except for those who are lining their pockets in the chaos.

worth the long read. fxxx the melting pot. somebody needs to say it since Lou Dobbs got canned. fxxx the romance of the melting pot. the melting pot did us in this go-round. ain't what it used to be and never will be. Outdated romantic principle welcoming foreigners (i.e. cheap labor) based on modernization/industrialization needs which no longer exist in this country. and never will again.

RIP melting pot- dead and buried, since 9/11. would rather be isolationist, working for internal survival, rather than see my birthright creamed into oblivion like so much roadkill by NAFTA and ignorant political correctness aka communism.
