Another Towing Indictment

  • A seventh Chicago police officer has been charged as part of a probe into cops tipping off favored tow truck drivers to car crashes in return for bribes.
Seriously, but what the f#$%? For all it's inherent problems, this isn't a bad gig and yet, people risk it all on a few thousand bucks?

As Shaved stated earlier today, there are going to be more convictions over this towing scandal that in the entire SOS debacle.

If a PO is that stupid to be involved in this, he's on his/her own!!! Dont try to sell me a 10-1 party ticket for this b.s. Remember though, some of these tow drivers are straight up criminals. Do not ever trust them or get to know them. They will implicate you just to try to get themselves out of trouble. They lie, lie, lie.... Good job throwing your career away, hope you dont get jail time..... Cops arent liked much in prison I hear. Hope its NOT true.

These ain't the old days. The public let government employees get away with mischief in the past because maybe they didn't care or maybe it was because the pay was really bad back then. Let these hustlers make it on their own, we shouldn't help them, it's just common sense.

Of course no comments from a city who has left us so dependant on these tow truck rats for clearing streets after an accident.

Call for a relo and since theres no money it it Randolf/Lake will still be blocked with crashed cars a week later.

Its no wonder these gangbanger tow companies think they are deputized and run lights, and speed, all over the city. Im just glad I never got Palsy with any of them. Something about them always raised hackles on my head.

Maybe it was the gangsta Tats. But thanks again Chicago. Maybe in the next life we'll actually have city tow trucks we can count on.

A bit of advice to the the poster whose plate sticker
was stolen, after you apply the
sticker to your plate, take any
kind of sharp object, preferably
a single-edged razor blade or
a utility knife, and make a series
of cuts in the sticker after it's
on the plate so when someone tries
to steal it it can't be
peeled off whole.

Regarding the plate covers; Any cover over the plate, tinted or not, is a violation. Several years ago there was an inspector who wrote coppers up for having covers on their plate. I know because I got wrote up. I beat the beef by taking the cover off but the fact remains that any cover is a violation.

Absolutely nothing except the bolts that affix the plate to the vehicle and the yearly registration sticker is allowed on the plates. No clear cover, No paint, No reflective type application. Technically, bordered plate covers aren't allowed.

Clear is NOT okay. No covering is allowed. A glare off 'clear' can still render it unreadable, therefore it's not allowed.

Next time, slice your sticker a few times with a razor blade. That way, it won't be possible to peel the whole thing off and re-use it.

it's a good idea to slice up your plate sticker with a razor after affixing it to your plate. slash it across the sticker on an angle (I would make no less than five cuts across the sticker). That way, any would-be thieves will be unsuccessful in removing the entire sticker, since it would come off in pieces.

Guess again. I hope you are not the police.

Per the Illinois Vehicle Code, specifically 625 ILCS 5/12-610.5, entitled Registration Plate Covers, it is unlawful to operate any motor vehicle that is equipped with any tinted, colored, painted, marked, clear, or illuminated registration plate cover.

This section also notes that a violation is considered a moving violation, meaning it will result in points against your license.

The same section also prohibits any person from selling a registration plate cover or offering to sell a registration plate cover.

But, to the original commenter, your last sentence is whack.

I learned this little trick a long time ago: Scrape off as many of the old stickers that you can.

After you put the new one on, take a razor blade and slice through it several times. That way, when someone tries to peel it off, they get little pieces. You may end up with a corner or 2 missing, but they rest of the sticker will still be there.

Hi Rob, this is me, that wasn't.....

I wouldn't trust ANYONE that tried to give me a few dollars for anything related to police work unless it's a legitimate part-time job. I get my few dollars on the 1st and 16th.

An instructor at the academy told us that anyone that gives you something, now has you in his pocket and when he gets in trouble will try to trade you for leniency. It made sense then and it still does.

And, adding MCC 9-64-150D to the list, these pos politicians went and passed, not one, but three laws to make sure the red-light cameras and toll booth cameras can continue to capture clear license plate photographs, which will be used to squeeze as much money as possible from the public. Thanks for the clarification on the plate covers; luckily I have not bought one yet.

The most recent sticker was the only one that I didn't score; I forgot my shiv when I was attaching it to the plate.

But the covers actually will not defeat red light cameras; the Mythbusters investigated this last season. Only way to defeat them that they found was to get a Ferrari etc and blow past at over 150 mph; you are gone before the camera snaps the picture. But what do legislators know about science?

If I could afford a car like that I would not care about the cameras anyway.

We are tired of talking about these allegations over PO's doing this dumb $hit. He/She will pay the cost (if proven)for taking $$$ for hooking up tow drivers. Well 'Your Honor'! If you really are a judge, then you are a big reason the justice system is such a mess. Good hard working Officers write these tickets because the bad guys use them to obstruct their plates. Do decent people use them? Sure. But they sill obstruct the plates.

While you are being driven around "Your Highness", look at how many have salt or dirt behind the glass. Many of them are by design to obstruct law enforcement personnel or the light and tollway cameras. At night, tell me you can read those plates w/ plastic from as far away. The average thug knows this. Are you telling me he is smarter than you "Your Eminence""?

These plate covers present a significant safety hazard to the men and women in law enforcement as well as the general public. Get off your high horse and uphold these citations!

Sorry for flaming you Judge Judy, but you have to expect that on this blog. "My courtroom" indeed.
