Nice Pinch

A very good job. We're going to quote liberally from the article because it's a good story:
  • Two veteran tactical officers are being credited with capturing three gangsters armed with pistols and a machine-gun type of assault weapon before they hurt someone early Sunday in the Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

A man flagged down police about 3:30 a.m. in the 4700 block of West Washington Boulevard after one of the three suspects pointed a gun at him before fleeing in a white Cadillac sedan, according to police.

Area 4 midnight Tactical Officers Rick Caballero and his partner John McKenna gave chase in an unmarked police car until the three suspects bailed from the car in a field in the 300 block of North Pulaski Road.

Police said the partners grabbed two of them and placed them under arrest without incident while the third jumped a fence and fled on foot to the home of an acquaintance in 300 block of North Avers Avenue, which he ran into to try and escape.

The house was surrounded by police, including McKenna and Caballero, Harrison District beat officers and K-9 units. Officers entered the house and found the third suspect on the second floor about 3:45 a.m. and he was arrested.

Caballero and McKenna recovered three guns on the scene at the Pulaski Road address, including two pistols and a compact machine gun, similar to a M.A.C.-10 according to police. No one was hurt in the incident.

A law enforcement source close to the investigation commended the officers’ work in the arrests of the suspects, all of whom are convicted felons and gang members.

“We think they were out to do somebody harm and these guys prevented a shooting, if not a homicide,’’ the source said.

This is what police work is. Not "predicting" from a cubicle. Not event numbers. Not anything the J-Fled and Masters and any of the other number-fudgers downtown have turned this job into.

Excellent job Officers.

Right on, SCC. An excellent arrest, and an excellent commentary by you about what REAL policework is. Maybe, just maybe, the WEISel and 3M might just learn what that is within the next 6 months. Hopefully we'll be free of both of them, along with both Asst. Supts. and all of the Deputy Supts. by then.
It would be terrific to begin the new year by seeing the CPD turn a new page with some fresh, intelligent leadership no longer beholden to City Hall.

O.T. - The selection of J-FLED was mandated from the FEDs, so Chicago would not have to go under a consent decree given the Olympic bid. That is why J-FLED got offered so much money, because he had a private-sector offer before getting the Supt's job around the same money he gets.

If indiviuals think I am giving false information - think about this - city ordinance mandates that Supt. candidates go before the Police Board for selection. THAT NEVER HAPPENED WITH J-FLED! Mayor Daley unilaterally chose J-FLED. J-FLED's selection completely circumvented the traditional selection of the Supt. being recommended by the Police Board.

This is how we policed the streets before the coming of Weiss. Proactive policing. Now, we are reactive, waiting for the crystal ball unit to tell us when crime will occur. If we had veteran, effective leadership, the troops would be motivated to proactively go after the gang bangers. You reap what you sow. The lack of effective leadership is appaling in this department. Ever since Brown took over, Weiss is suddenly quiet about the crime rate?

real police work seems to start a lot of times with citizen reports of some kind of crime and enough information for the cops to go get the bad guys.

the citizen reports seem to be a big part of the problem in chicago. just not enough of them.

I don't think it makes any real difference why there is a lack of trust of CPD by a substantial part of the citizenry, it just is the way it is. And somehow CPD has to win that trust back before there is any real chance of dealing with crime.

CHICAGO BREAKING NEWS

NICE PINCH HERE AND THERE!!!!!!!

Three men who police said crashed their car into a police squad car chasing them after a reported home invasion on the South Side have been charged.

Randy Johnson, 26; of the 8200 block of South Sangamon Street; Cashell Williams, 31; and Terrance Weatherspoon, 24, were all charged with home invasion with a firearm, according to a release from police News Affairs. Addresses for Williams and Weatherspoon were not available.
The incident began near South Stony Island Avenue and East 71st Street about 7:25 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

Officers in the area heard gunshots and saw a car leave the scene, said police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines. A victim waved to police and reported a home invasion, he said.

The officers took chase and pursued the suspects to the intersection of South Martin Luther King Drive and East 64th Street, where they crashed their green Land Rover into two police squad cars, Gaines said. It wasn't clear if the police cars were involved in the chase or had been responding to help out.

No one was injured, and a gun was recovered on the scene, Gaines said.

In addition to the home invasion charge, Johnson was charged with possession of cannabis and Williams was charged with aggravated fleeing from police, disobeying a stop sign and failure to carry a driver's license, the release said.

Two sexual assaults reported near Loyola University

September 27, 2010

Sun-Times Media Wire

"Police are investigating two separate sexual assaults...

"[The] first incident...occurred in the 6200 block of North Kenmore Avenue...the 19-year-old female student told police she met the suspect...at a nearby tavern where they had been drinking. About 2:45 AM, they went back to her dorm at the Kenmore address and began making out in a laundry room where the sexual assault occurred."

Duh.

"A second, unrelated sexual assault [occurred around 4:30 AM] in the 6400 block of Sheridan Road.

"The female victim...was leaving the multi-story building on Sheridan Road with a male acquaintance, but when she got to the lobby she realized she forgot her keys and went back to get them.

"When she came back to the lobby, her friend was not there. A second male she did not know was in the lobby and told her campus security was 'looking for her' and she could 'hide out' at his place, Whalen said. She went with him, but did not remember where the residence is located.

"The next thing she remembered was waking up [with him] sexually assaulting her at his residence."

Unless we know the "MAC 10" was fully automatic, there's a very, very real chance that the media outlet is doing what media outlets are so likely to do in furthering the gun equivalent of reefer-madness; calling any gun not shaped like a deer rifle or a revolver a machine gun.

Frankly, I'd pretty much lay significant odds that this was your run of the mill, $300 repeating MAC 10 favored by range-warriors and fantasy enthusiasts and NOT a a fully automatic machine gun.

Sorry pal. One of those bags of shit would be fighting a case, and that's what should've been done. So, they all got b.s. misdemeanors? Nice work. Should've saved the time and done three contact cards and a turn-in and got back out into the fight. A full auto too? All felons??? One of those fucks' head would've been spinning. And guess what?? I would sleep like a baby.

As far as felony review...yes, sometimes they're a joke and sometimes they're great. But without them the shitty system we have here in this ridiculous excuse for a government would be clogged with even more b.s....and sadly with coppers who quite frankly don't know what the hell they are doing. Don't blame this completely wasted pinch on anyone other than the A/Os. These assholes were on their way to most likely murder someone...and at a minimum rob some poor slob. This should've been a slam dunk, you just couldn't commit. For shits and gigs you should run their IRs and see what they've accomplished since they got away with a full fucking auto!

And your God comment...I'm not attempting to portray that I'm super cop. I realize it sounds like it. There are a multitude of cops who are far more hard working than myself and who have had far better arrests (God Bless the WORKING POLICE). I'm just saying that the right thing to do should have been to put one of these assholes behind bars. Bottom line. You and everyone involved and everyone reading this knows that all four were guilty, knew of the gun, and knew what they were intending to do. Would it have been such a huge stretch to tighten up your paper work just a tad?? Grow a pair.

Now, was it really a COMPACT MACHINE GUN, or was it a pistol modeled after the MAC-10? There is a big, huge difference. Someone might actually hit something at which he was aiming with one of the pistols, while everyone in the immediate area would be endangered by the compact machine gun. (When did we stop calling them "submachineguns?")
