Quick Hits

It has been a while since we did a Quick Hits. First up, the gun-toting grandma:
  • A 12-year-old boy was shot and critically injured by a woman apparently upset at the boy and others for throwing rocks at her Southeast Side home Tuesday evening.

The shooting happened about 5:25 p.m. near East 76th Street and South Coles Avenue and sent a juvenile to University of Comer Children's Hospital in serious to critical condition, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado said.

Police said the 12-year-old boy was shot by a woman in her 70s. The boy and others apparently had thrown rocks at the woman's house and the woman took out a gun and shot him, a police source said.

"Teach 'em young" we were always told. Hopefully, junior learned not to fuck with grandma.

Next, an attempted suicide of some sort:
  • An 11-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was found shot multiple times in an Englewood home Monday night.

At 11:30 p.m., an 11-year-old boy was found shot in the abdomen, back and arm in a home in the 6100 block of South Marshfield, police said.

[...] Although the three or four people in the home claimed to have not witnessed the shooting, they told police the boy appeared to have shot himself, the detective said.
Yeah, shot himself in the arm, back and belly. Sounds completely plausible under the new "J-Fled Shooting Categories - Innies v Outies," page 33, paragraph 3, line 4, see note in appendix.

And not to put too cynical a spin on it, the kid shot in the above story is the second family member shot in 9 days:
  • Still weary from regular trips to a North Side hospital where her oldest son was recovering from gunshot wounds he suffered more than a week ago, Sharon Davis' life was further upended Monday night when her 11-year-old son was shot and wounded at a friend's house.

Family vendetta?

Amen! SCC, right on the nose with this one.

On the boy who shot hisself in the back, I've seen this many times, haven't you?

There ought to be a law against being that stupid. Maybe it's the water? I'll be waiting to see who gets charged for this one.

The news said the boy threw rocks but a woman being interviewed said bricks. If that kid threw bricks at grandma, adios MF.

I think the 11 year old was probably shot by a ricochet bullet from the previous shooting. You know, it was just whizzing around the house for a few days before it unfortunately hit him. They just seem to have such bad luck on the south side.

What about the piece in yesterday's Mary Mitchell column, kvetching that cops didn't respond fast enough to some drugged out moron stepping off the curb? And when a cop shows and explains that gee, there are shootings/rapes/other violent crimes going on and this is not a priority, she takes it as racial? What's up with that? We all pay taxes, but if I'm a cop needing back up for a shooter, I sure don't want to hear I have to wait while we send someone to babysit some druggie.

This must be the "Promised Land" Doctor King told us he saw from the mountain top. We now judge people on the content of their character: The law demands we do!

Doctor King told us he "....might not get there with ya."
What Doctor King didn't tell us is he did not want to go here. That's right: Here, in this place. In Englewood, Chatham, etc., where young and old Black people are being killed by their brothers almost everyday.

Welcome to the Promised Land!!

First, I commend grandma.

Second, half a dozen people came out of the woodwork to say the kid was terrorizing her and he deserved it, but where the hell WERE they when it was going on all these months?

Years ago, my mother lived in fear of a similar kid, not wanting to be critical, for fear of losing her large picture window. I told her this is how whole neighborhoods are intimidated by a handful of bullies and she would have to stand up. She did. It stopped. And this is how we take back our neighborhoods.

citizens have every right to protect themselves when the police can't

someone throws a brick at you shoot'm dead you were in fear of your life
if it works for the citizens it'll work for us

jfled that doesn't count eggs
keep retreating when eggs are thrown at you gotta run

allow ged and high school graduates take the exam , most would probably score better on promotional exams than our current merit/cloutorious sgt , lt , captains and command staff
give the people a chance

That's just the quality of detectives you got here today. I've seen a few homicides written off by the detectives as suicides. If the case ain't cut and dry, make it a suicide....

In the story about the pistol-packing granny, at the end, there is this:

"Retired police detective Gerald Hamilton, 55, who lives a half block from the woman, said he heard the gunshots and saw the two suspects running away.

Hamilton put the wounded boy into his car and called police. He said the boy admitted throwing rocks and bricks at the woman's home before being shot.

Hamilton, who said he has been a foster father for hundreds of at-risk youth for 30 years, said more parental input could help quell rowdy teenagers.

"These kids didn't come from Mars," Hamilton said. "They are our kids. Unfortunately, these adults, they come home and lock themselves in with two or three dead bolts and these kids are out running the streets."

I have seen how some of those young folks can totally terrorize a senior, or anyone for that matter.
They know just when to appear and disappear, when the police arrive.
They know how to work in a crowd. If the police gather them up, often the victim can not point to the exact youth that broke her window. The police make a report and leave. These little bullies get stronger. The other people on the block are afraid to speak out, for fear they will be terrorize.
You can shoot them, but they still will win.
How Many Lawyers, do you think have contacted this youth? Do you think that poor old lady will lose her case in civil court ? I hope I am wrong, but she can kiss her house, her pension, her savings, her social security good buy.
The lawyers, and the youths mom are already dividing it up.
PS: Have A NICE DAY ?????

WBBM Radio is reporting that the 12-year-old who was shot in the arm (he was TREATED AND RELEASED, and is not "critically wounded," as some news outlets reported) was throwing BRICKS at the 70-year-old woman's house, along with others, and that "the broken windows are still being replaced." They stated that this boy, and one other, have been charged with AGGRAVATED BATTERY, and that the woman has not been charged.

Defense against a potentially lethal mob assault on her home. Good for her.

It's a community until granny shoots a 12 year old. Then it's every man/woman for his/herself. All this talk about community. What crap. Those kids were terrors of the neighborhood? Anyone tell mom or pop? I'd be dipped in shit before I'd let a 12 year old terrorize my neighborhood. I would have snatched his ass up a long time ago. Typical englehhood. 100 people out but no one sees anything, unless it's their own. Well then, live with your crime, and don't complain. You make your own rules, so shut up, and quit blaming the police for your rotten kids. THEY ARE YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. Raise them right for craps sake.
