A Gallon of Pills

  • A Berwyn man and a woman were charged after authorities found a revolver and about 1,500 codeine pills on sale for $5 apiece at a corner store on the West Side last week, police said.

A revenue agent on a routine check to ensure cigarettes were being sold properly and not being bootlegged, stopped into the H & Y Food Store, 3825 W. Chicago Ave., about 1:30 p.m. Friday, according to police.

The agent subsequently spotted “in plain view of the public’’ a large candy jar behind the counter filled with about 1,500 hydrocodone pills, which contain codeine, police said. The pills were being sold for $5 each, and a revolver was also found at the store, according to police.

Stop in for the loose cigarettes, stay for the controlled substance. On the downside, this guy might not be paying city taxes and fines for a while, contributing even more to the budget shortfall.

I just hate it when that happens...walk into a licensed premise to ensure that the licenses
are all up to date, and products sold are in compliance with the terms of those licenses, and before ya know it, you're slapped in the face with the evidence of a crime that's far more serious, far more dangerous to the public staring you right in your face...damn it all!

Regular over-the-counter meds don't work well. So he sells something with a little kick. What's the big deal?

Wonder if this revenue agent is a former P.O. that I know who left CPD a few years ago. I won't put his name here because you don't know who reads these comments. If it was him, he is "pretty observant"

Hey, SCC, that dope is a big seller! Lots of people make extra $$$ getting their prescriptions filled, selling the pills on the street (or to "stores" like this), then going back to their doc claiming "my girl/boyfrind threw out the pills." Or they go to different docs and get different prescriptions written. Don't know if there's a state database of people getting rx for controlled substances (I know Ohio has one where the docs can look up who has gotten/tried to get what, where, when, and from whom), but IL should have one....

"Hydrocodone is abused for its opioid effects. Widespread diversion via bogus call-in prescriptions, altered prescriptions, theft and illicit purchases from Internet sources are made easier by the present controls placed on hydrocodone products. Hydrocodone pills are the most frequently encountered dosage form in illicit traffic. Hydrocodone is generally abused orally, often in combination with alcohol.

"Of particular concern is the prevalence of illicit use of hydrocodone among school-aged children. The 2008 Monitoring the Future Survey reports that 2.9%, 6.7% and 9.7% of 8th, 10th, and 12th graders, respectively, used Vicodin® nonmedically in the previous year.

As with most opiates, abuse of hydrocodone is associated with tolerance, dependence, and addiction. The co-formulation with acetaminophen carries an additional risk of liver toxicity when high, acute doses are consumed...

3251 W. Division Pagan liquor store

3251 W. Division Pagan liquor store

3251 W. Division Pagan liquor store

This is the worst liquor store in the neighborhood, less than a dozen people shot in the past four months,in some instances ending with fatalities and they still get away with it...by remaining open.
Why? just ask around
Who do they know?
Who are the owners friends with?

Yes, you guessed it right! (26th ward) Ald. Roberto Maldonado

You forgot about "what time it is?"

I always found it funny and absurd for some mope walking down the middle of the street carrying a golf club at 0400 to worry about what time it was.

You'll find out "what time it is" if you're dumb enough to take your eyes off him for a second in order to raise your cuff and display your nice watch.

No golf course around here.

That's not true. There's a golf course in 015 and a practice area in the park at Douglas/Sac. He was probably going to wrok on his short game. Man, you racist!
