i had search warrants sent to iad because the judge who signed the warrants had a wife who worked for ops at the time. why is this any different. ipra should not investigate.

IPRA handles all complaints where there is an allegation of excessive force or all shootings. IAD and your District or Unit sergeants handle the rest, with the majority of all Complaint Log numbers being handled by the District or Unit sergeants. Know your profession, know the orders and especially know your contract. The more you know, the better chance you have of not getting fucked if you ever get caught up in a jam.

How did IPRA complete this investigation in 24 hours? This is unheard of. A normal investigation would take weeks. Why was this case pushed soo fast and why such a quick press conference? Something stinks.

It's easier, and better press for him to throw the coppers under the bus than do the right thing.
If a handcuffed prisoner is spitting on police he is committing a battery and is an Active Resistor at the very least. An open hand stunning blow to the face is a perfectly Justified Use of Force according to the department Use of Force Model against an active resistor (handcuffed or not as taught by the academy). I was not there but hopefully that is all that is on this tape.

Every time that I got into even a slight scuffle with an offender I aways made out an IOD and went to the hospital. Always make sure to tell teh ER Nurse that you are in pain(at least 7 on the scale) and need to get treated. Always take a pain pill if they offer it and if not, request one. If you need a few days off then call in the next day and you know the rest. Well, most of you hair gels wont know what I am talking about.
But yet there is no shortage of hair gels and assorted glory hound suckups that continue to go to the award shows to shake this P.O.S's hand. Wake up, this department will screw, burn, fabricate, conspire, and lead your ass to the guillotine in a second to further the political agenda of the now five stooges,weis,mara,ipra,

IAD doesn't handle brutality beefs, if an IPRA employee or relative is involved IAD SHOULD handle due to the conflict of interest....

Last, I concur with the poster who said to bring in the Feds to investigate this incident. I think IPRA can't be trusted on this one, and IAD can't be either (full of political hacks who will do whatever the Hall wants them to). Let the Feds check out all the facts, and allow them to call the investigative 'ball' on this one. Anything less will be a farce.

THATS ALL THIS CITY NEEDS.... Officers armed and ready to defend the citizens against this "Mumbai" type of attack everyone fears may happen again. The carbine programs is withering away. The shotgun is the simplest weapon to use and much more economical to purchase and maintain. Ammo is cheap. The training is minimal and its a very effective tool. It is an alternative or sometimes more appropriate weapon for an urban environment. The ammo doesnt travel as far as a .556 (M4 round) in case of a stray round and you dont need as much precision with the round placement. The sight of them alone has a psycological effect to disperse most unruly crowds and calm down the aggressors (nice attention get'er), saving Police and people from injury. The more importatant question is..... "WTF do you mean I may not have a pension at the end of my service here!?!?"
I want to have a son and name him Jody. He is an example of courage, prudence, and professionalism. After he leaves I never want to forget the impact he has had on my department and my city. Thank you Jody.
If this kid is the family member of an IPRA employee, then any investigation IPRA conducts wont mean shit since the appearance of it being tainted will negate the results.
A smart move would be to ask the Illinois State Police Public Integrity Unit to investigate. They already investigate shootings for most suburban departments. It's a way to have an impartial, fair and balanced investigation without the politics.

"A Chicago police officer once again faces felony criminal charges after an appellate court struck down a Cook County judge's decision to dismiss the indictment against him.
"The ruling reinstates charges of official misconduct, perjury and obstruction of justice against John Haleas, the Chicago police officer once lauded for racking up the most arrests for DUI in the city.
"The case stems from a 2005 arrest Haleas performed while two prosecutors were riding along with him. He allegedly failed to administer a field sobriety test to the suspect, but the prosecutors later noted that he wrote reports reflecting that he had performed the test. Following an internal investigation, the police department suspended Haleas for one day in July 2007 and in April 2008 he was indicted on the criminal charges.

Per Channel 5/WMAQ 5:00 PM News, Alderman Ed Burke told the city council earlier today that 4 of the city pension funds will be belly up by the year 2030 and the only way to stop it would be for the city to put 650 million a year towards pensions for the next 40 years!
Boys and girls, things are not looking good!

Off topic but the latest rumor has surfaced with regard to sending back TRU at the end of the period. Sorry boys and girls if you care. I guess Ernie Brown is actually running the department. God help us all!! Part II of the rumor is that they will be looking for 100 PO's to additional MSF. I say screw them and they get nobody to sigh up for this. Why bother unless you want to take 30 pending.

BRAVO to Bob Sirott for his commentary at the end of the 9pm news on Fox. He came out and said that Jody is not giving the officers and Sgt due process by disciplining them, before an investigation takes place. I've seen a lot of bizzare crap over 30 years on this job, but this little outburst on the part of JFled is really over the top. Having worked at IAD when it was at 11th and State (a long time ago) it was NEVER the practice to strip anyone unless there was clear criminality involved - and only when an arrest was probable. This situation as reported does not rise to that standard. Touching up a guy who throws an object at an officer or in some way attempts to defeat the arrest is not grounds to immediately strip that officer - especially a supervisor, let alone call a f'n press conference to announce it to the media. Where the f did that shit come from? A situation in which brutality was alleged, OPS (now IPRA), would conduct an investigation and we would do a parallel investigation - depending upon the circumstances. Great pains were taken NOT to violate the officers rights. And, contrary to common belief, most guys who worked IAD had no axe to grind with the rank and file. If you had worked there and actually seen the goofs compared to the actual working coppers who put their safety and health on the line for the city, you would fully understand that petty beefs had no place there. Real criminals, medical abusers, thiefs, gangbangers and dope dealers that wore the uniform were the targets of that division. OPS(IPRA) on the other hand, is merely a political aminal and window dressing for the reverends and criminals who are trying to control this city.
For JFled to jump out and make a pronouncement in the manner he did just shows how much of an opportunist and scumbag he is.
Well, at least he stopped wearing the uniform since Phil busted him out.

Burke, and Daley through Burke, is posturing for changes to the pension system. They are telling the public that gee folks, we will have to fuck you all in the ass to continue paying these greedy city employees those god damned exorbitant pensions unless you let us change the pension laws to our liking and allow the city get out from under the pension fund payments so that we (Daley) don't have to answer for the years of corruption and mismanagement.

Off topic: I heard today that police HQS will be renamed The Public Safety Building and the fire department is taking over the entire 3rd floor. The city is going to eliminate the personal division and outsource it to private industry. I heard this from a very good source.All pre-employment background investigations will be done by private detectives.

Actually, yes, they will. My partner and I arrested someone 3 years ago and the offender spit food particles on my partner's face. Granted, he had a bad rap sheet, the judge offered 2 years, they turned it down and he got 6. Served 3.
Corn hole ran and got caught with a gun. MF's the police, tussled with them. then once handcuffed, battered the police by spitting in their face (Lets hope dummy doesn't have any diseases). That is a battery to a police officer. If a police officer then pushes, slaps or bends the offenders face away to stop him from continuing to batter any other officers, you're justified. Tell me momma didn't coach her innocent son how to make some $$$ for the famo.

Not to my way of thinking. I am in a district, I am left alone mostly. I work alone. I have none of the problems I read about in a unit. I've been to units. There is absolutely no pressure on me to perform. I am already at the bottom rung. I can't get any lower. I smile every day. The worst part is just going to work. Really, this is not bad and I get a nap in on most days.
I answer my calls and go home. No aggravation, no complaining "look what so-and-so got" Just riding out the string.
It is all attitude. This isn't bad. I look busy while doing little. Those who are all pissed off just aren't playing the game properly. Use your head, don't worry, be happy.
Why doesn't someone call the papera to give them a more accurate description of what transpired and with whom they are related to?
Why? They won't listen. Their motto is "if it bleeds, it leads". The more sensationalized the story is, the better ratings they get.

Spit in the face of a police officer. Yeah, you may get lucky to have felony review approved agg battery charges but you will NEVER get a conviction with a sentencing of any jail time.
