Happy Thanksgiving

A Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

Stay safe if you're working. Hopefully, the Districts put on a bit of dinner for everyone.

If you're fortunate enough to be off, enjoy the blessings of the day.

For the first time in twenty-eight years, I know I will be home on Thanksgiving. And Christmas Eve, and Christmas, and New Year's.

It's a strange feeling, after years of walking out of family dinners to leave for work, often not being able to have any holiday at all with my family, and I feel for every single one of you who will be out there, slogging through the sleet, grabbing a burger instead of a drumstick and taking in a domestic (or three) instead of the football game.

I am grateful for all of you. You make it possible for everyone else to enjoy this day.

A little Thanksgiving humor:
---

A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary.

Every word out of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity. John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to 'clean up' the bird's vocabulary.

Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back. John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even more rude. John, in desperation, threw up his hand, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer. For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed.

Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute.

Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the freezer. The parrot calmly stepped out onto John 's outstretched arms and said "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior."

John was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude.

As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird spoke-up, very softly, "May I ask what the turkey did?"

Give thanks for what we have for many have much less. May those on the front lines return home safely to their families. Stay safe all.

What's the over/under on the annual *'Domestic Drumstick Death?'

I think the 'knife' has remained the weapon of choice for these last 6 years in a row.

* For you non-po-lice trollers...
Every year at the Thanksgiving table some family member grabs the last portion of food (usually a favorite piece of their 'free' turkey, thus the term 'drumstick death' in true 'entitlement' form over the objection of the other members at the table)
An argument ensues resulting in the two participants soon turning into combatants grabbing the closest weapon, usually a steak knife and stabs that fool that ate the last piece of piece of turkey or spoonful of macaroni and cheese.

Aaah, give Thanks!

Now as a police officer I can relate to it all. This year, my home was burglarized, my car was stolen, my wife was robbed at gun point, (all in the 017th district) my mom was a victim of a strong arm robbery (in 024) and my dad was robbed at gun point at his store (in Skokie).

Now, whenever I hand out a report for burglary, armed robbery, motor vehicle theft, etc.... I can empathize with the victim.

This jewel of a cop broke a cop's nose, is suing the cop and the department and gets 2nd watch. He is currently taking 45 days for his disgusting drunk violent behavior. There's more, one of the other day dollies is having a benefit for this ass. I'm sick.

Well SCC it wasn't such a Happy Thanksgiving for the officers in the 018th District. Things started out well when the generous people from EXCALIBER donated a complete turkey dinner with all the trimmings. This was supposed to be for ALL the officers who couldn't be at home for Thanksgiving with their families. A big thank you goes out to EXCALIBER for their thoughtfullness. Unfortunately though it seems a certain CAPS Sgt.CS took it upon herself to donate the turkey dinner to all of the people who live in Cabrini Green rowhouses. So now officers will have to go elsewhere to find a thanksgiving meal. I am one for charity, but officers who work this day were really counting on this meal. Its bad enough you can't enjoy it with your wife and kids. So now iam headed out to get a number #2 meal from McDonalds(quarter pounder) super sized with a diet coke for thanksgiving. And to all the offenders who I arrest on a weekly basis in the row houses, please enjoy my Thanksgiving turkey dinner. Iam sure it will be delicious. This is another example of how the merit bosses make decisions at the expense of the working officer. Shame on you Sgt CS. You are a disgrace to the uniform. I doubt this stunt will save you from getting dumped to the watch. What an unfortunate holiday this has become.

SCC-Update from the 018th District...
It seems that the CAPS Sgt CS who gave away the POs turkey dinner to residents of the Cabrini row houses now realizes her error. She informed us POs that we were now allowed to feast on the leftover food tht was ravaged through by our Cabrini residents. The turkey dinner that was picked thru with their hands, coughed on, sneezed on, etc. I checked the community room and observed turkey trimmings thrown on the floor, on tables and chairs. Apparently no one was able to eat civily on Thanksgiving. So, the entire meal was wasted on these people. Gee thanks Sarge(sarcasm). It was a little too late to backtrack and correct your decision. Thank you for ruining Thanksgiving 2010 for many POs. I guess I should plan on bringing my Xmas dinner also. For all POs out there working or at home, Happy Thanksgiving!

Can anyone explain how the unit rep for 151 becomes a management stooge, then is put inside as a secretary and then gets to change his furlough to 12B because he did not like his original pick. They just merged all of traffic and they have so many abled body officers inside. The secretary & unit rep for 151 snitches on his fellow officers and works saturations at night followed by crosswalk initiatives and special employment in the morning in violation of the rules. But he can do it because the lt. likes him

I can't believe that 025 1st watch got screwed big time. We lost people to MSF (and of course they are placed in our watch), we lost three officers to the tact team, plus we lost about seven officers who bidded out to other watches. So we are down about 20 officers and no new bodies to help us out.

People bidded out of our watch, but no one was replaced. I actually like working 1st watch because it works for me (and I have the time to go any watch I want to based on my seniority). But this is a slap in the face of officers who work on this watch. Plus it's insulting.

As a Sicilian who loves to feed people, a mother who treats all my children's friends like her own, and former waitress in my younger years, this story really pissed me off. Every year I worked Thanksgiving I voided a check for cops (I don't want to hear about policy). That was my payback for making us feel safe when you were in our place eating, all the locked cars you opened during the year and for just putting your life on the line for a living.

For this bitch you make herself look good by passing you guys over to feed useless row house jagoffs that have never learned to properly support themselves and were most likely already feeling no pain due to a half gallon of Hennessey, a big fuck you.

Someone ought to call Excalibur and tell them what happened so they can go over her fucking head and have her reprimanded. I'm sure Excalibur didn't prepare that meal so a bunch of bums could eat it. Let them go to Catholic Charities. But, oh, Catholic Charities doesn't deliver.

I'm sorry that happened to you all.

I believe I posted 'for the first time in 28yrs, I KNOW I will be home'. Many a time I worked for idiots who held the slip til the last moment before they 'allowed; you to take time. And, for too many years, I worked in a unit where WE worked when the (very) bad guy's schedule dictated when we worked.

I'm not complaining, because we did something that truly made a difference, I'm just saying that I now KNOW, instead of hope, that my holidays are once again mine and it's a very different feeling from what I'd gotten used to throughout my career. We've all lived through it and the next ten thousand coppers coming up will live through it, too.

It's just nice when someone recognizes that we live abnormal lives so that the citizens out there can live happy, NORMAL ones.

many moons ago there was a restaurant/tavern on milwaukee and belmont called the congress--- it was a "pollock" joint and they loved the police---- the 3rd watch boss in 017 arranges for the owner to cook up a turkey dinner with all the goodies--- the 3rd watch boss in 025 hears about this and sends two of his officers who say they are from 017 and they kidnap the turkey dinner---- the boss in 017 went nuts and he did exact some form of revenge at a later date--- this was why this job used to be fun......

With Thanksgiving over, we know that the Airing of the Grievances and the Feats of Strength are just around the corner.

Wonder if anybody got killed over a turkey leg yesterday?

025 1st Watch said...

HAHAA, You thought Capt. P denying people time due right now, wait he's gonna close the books after two people, lol. What a joke that watch has become, bid else where (PS. Make sure you don't tell the Capt. nothing), there's a reason why the guys/gal who went to MSF kept their mouthes shut. Capt. needs to take care of the 25 or 30 people who remained on his Watch. And screw that 10-4 BS, non tax payers can wait for police service with their bs "My son wouldn't do his home work, my baby daddy don't love anymore". lol

Oh you must mean the MERIT SGT / EX WEASEL DRIVER,
who was supposed to be a "leader of police".

More like a leader of "hay office how long dis gonna take i got's to go".

AND PLEASE TRY SHOWING UP FOR CHECK OFF WITH YOUR WATCH ! It looks kind of sad that the men and women on your log are standing around waiting for you at check off only to find out that you took off without telling anyone!

MERIT =

Management, Egomaniac, Righteous, Ignorant, Token

Just another west-sider without clout.

Sgt CS? Has that broad ever worked the streets. I hope the dept heads see how freaking useless she is and move her to a beat car. Lets see how fast she hits the medical. But knowing this job, they will promote her instead. If you like to screw over the police, we need you in upper management. You worthless excuse for a supervisor much less a cop. One guy in the CAPS office does 95% of the work while CS and her 2 trolls are busy playing social workers.

How about Captain R.A. who gets himself sent from 011 to 010 but finds himself on midnights.

He boasts that he will nly be on midnights for a few days but he goes out of his way to be a bully, and cancels time-off for the first watch Christmas party. Thanks-God for cooler heads.

Only going to be here for days and makes mess of everything. Someone with his history should lay low or Chuck Gaudie or Jody Weis will start asking questions.

Sergeant C.S. of 018 should realize that that dinner was not hers to give away.

What will she do to replace it?

Will she be left in a position to screw something up like that again?

Sgt. C.S. is an example of Couldn't Pass a Test, Meritorious Promotion Who Was Never There with A Short Memory.

She should get ready for Christmas, and I recall from years ago a toy drive by the 18th District. The toys wer gleefully presented to the residents of Cabrini Green. And while the children cried, many of the "parents" sold those toys on the street for dope, booze and cigarette money.

Any other old timer from 018 want to confirm this story?

Fun?

The 025 Boss was the ever arrogant John Finnegan, and this was not done for fun. Theft of somebody's dinner is not fun. If Lt. J.F. was such a great guy he could have arranged dinner for his own officers instead of taking 17's dinner. There were some P.O.s in 017 that lived alone, parents deceased, divorced or whatever, and that would have been the only Thanksgiving dinner they would have had.

Nice going John.

May you spend eternity seated at a banquet next to the mythical Tantalus.
