Camera Catches Thief
Of course, this is Chicago, so the thief was stealing the camera itself:
A Little Village neighborhood man has reportedly received the dubious distinction of being the first person to ever steal a POD camera.
Unfortunately for him, the crime was captured on the very item he allegedly took, Chicago Police said.Geo Martinez, 19, of the 2400 block of South Spaulding Avenue, was charged Sunday afternoon with felony theft and misdemeanor reckless conduct, police said. The camera is worth about $8,000.
Probably that flashing blue light was keeping him awake at night.

If you read the story there was a 10 day difference between when the camera was stolen and when it was reported missing.
More proof the cameras are not being watched/needed.
And, note, the camera placement DID NOT DETER the CRIME. And it took TWO WEEKS to make an arrest.
Great system.
Yes, it works! I just knew that the City and Department would not deceive me in matters of utmost important. I feel safer now with the knowledge that these "cops who never sleep" are protecting my family. More cameras not more cops. I have to take my medicine now.
The POD cameras have their first victory!
An arrest for stealing the POD camera. This City is embarrassing.
Are those cameras really bulletproof?
He was going to put in his basement party room. The ultimate trophy for a thug. Checkered pattern and blue light blinking away while they consume beers and blunts...
Nothing about 009 coppers shooting robbery suspect last night? Great job by all on scene. Suspect was responsible for 20 something robberies.

Why yes they are :)
Was the camera recovered? The story didn't say. He was arrested at the scene of a gang disturbance so I assume he didn't have it on him.
The camera was reportedly worth "$8,000.
To who (whom)? WTF? What's the real cost before the city that works pumps up the contract?

It probably was noticed much sooner. The wait time to fix anyting on this Department is ridiculous. It can be weeks/months to repair a camera when goes down, computer, vehicle, etc.... Sometimes a 10 minute oil change takes a week. Forget about an accident..... body repair takes months. No need to fret! We get paid by the hour....
.....Are those cameras really bulletproof?.....
Yes and the Easter Bunny is real also!

Why do you care? Test it out and spend some time in Cook County Jail..... You'll get nice action shots in your case file. Maybe your bottom feeding lawyer will provide you a nice 8x10 for your cell.
Maybe it was a "blue light special" item.
I've arrested this jagoff king several times.... Grade-A asshole!!!
OT......Bill Cozzi (sp?) address where he's at please...what kinds or printed matter can he receive (books, magazines, etc)..and lastly, can he receive a few bucks for buying whatever is available to him there. With the holidays coming up, I figure he could use a few things.
Thanks
